  1. "Quoth the raven, 'Nevermore.'" - Edgar Alan Poe
  2. Wonderful little scene, and great usage of the Brickforge and Altbricks pieces. The only problem is your title, you misspelled shepherd.
  3. Remember that the new horse has a new head shape. If Kingdoms is seeing a new wave, TLG had to design new horse armor to keep consistancy. I remember that being an issue somewhere. I see a Dragon Mountain set as likely having a dragon maw entrance, maybe a ruin. As for the CMF tie in, I doubt it. If you really look at the Forest Maiden's hair, and then consider that Disney and Pixar just released Brave on DVD & BluRay; she could simply be TLG reaching for more of the 'tween girl market along with the four other female CMFs. You could just as easily put her next to the Highland Warrior fig in a mock scene from the movie.
  4. RL has completely pushed back my timetable on my Nestlands builds, but I did make a good push today for NOMEA and Visiting Herbologists. My next day with time for building should be Saturday. I also found out that my church's gathering hall has some lamps that may aid in photographing my current builds. Fingers crossed. Damaximus, I'm going to have my version of the Mpya Stedor visitation contingient escort some prominant Mitgardians, as there is no established port for the Nestland Clans. I may layer in a trade competition between Mpya Sedor and Berigora to be the primary port for Mitgardian trade for Nesltands products. Gabe are you cool with this? And is the Causeway still under repair? It may have bearing on the story for NOMEA and Vistiting Herbologists.
  5. Don't get so focused on one figure. IMHO: Half of the figs could be used nearly as is for GOH. Half of those are female. Another four have parts that could be used for custom medieval figs, and all but one have heads that are usable for medieval figs. By that reasoning, this is the greatest over-all series for historical builders. Also that 3x3 Bley plate has been a long time coming. Right now on bricklink it's pricing between $0.45 and $0.65 a piece.
  6. Such detail! Do I spy a neck ruffle in one of those mushrooms? And that tile with the spider. I could go on and on. I don't know about your competition over at CC (haven't been in quite a while), but you should be in the top of your category.
  7. Connemara marble is a stone found in Ireland. I get various catelogues of celtic and Irish gifts and many have items made from Connemara marble. Here are some examples to show you the range: http://www.gaelsong.com/product/146720/decor-celtic-candles http://www.shopirish.com/Sterling-Silver-Connemara-Marble-Ring http://www.shopirish.com/Connemara-Marble-Worry-Stone-OR008 http://www.shopirish.com/Shamrock-Marble-Necklace http://www.shopirish.com/Lucky-Irish-Penny http://www.shopirish.com/Connemara-Marble-Watch-Bracelet It is a very beautiful stone, and you could say that it was imported from the northern reaches of Mitgardia. Trans-black over various greens would create this effect. Some light gray(old and new) 1x1 round pieces backed by green under trans-green would help make it look more like natural stone.
  8. Nicely detailed and balanced well with modest fig posing. Don't worry about the light. It makes the close in shots more evocotive. With a brighter, more diffused light you would loose the wonderful blue reflected light on your stonework.
  9. Since altbricks has just updated their website, I am considering an order for some of their decorative elemets along with one of their tree sets.
  10. I can help you there. From this image: http://www.flickr.com/photos/28773832@N08/6804566302/in/photostream His armor and helmet are: This: http://www.brickwarriors.com/HornedPlateArmor.aspx And this: http://www.brickwarriors.com/AssassinMask.aspx The head is this: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3626bpb449 The horns are a brassoed one of these: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=95747pb02 The pants are this: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=970c00pb055 The hands appear to be reddish-brown. I am unsure of the torso. It may have printing underneath.
  11. Actually, taking a second look, the yellow 1x4 plate under the window should have gone over the window. That would balance the color thickness. That is the only criticism I can make. The white panes tie the window in with the other decorative elements.
  12. I hit a snag with my innital design for my NOMEA build, but have acquired a fourth 2x2 pearl gold duplo brick and am back in business. I will also be working on Visiting Herbologists this week. Photography may take some time, though. I may have to set up at my church's gathering hall after Thanksgiving.
  13. A nice depiction of a Chryog Wyrm, a sub-species of dragon first discovered by the dwarven sage Hammish the Noseless.
  14. Wonderfully executed, and I agree about the change in the shutters. I think there should be a Historica wide lighthouse build. Not as a set contest, but more like the embassy builds. Maybe an open voting for a badge of some kind. I believe the word you are looking for is flora. If so, you're right. That cactus is a great design. I may have to try a re-color version for an upcoming vig. I am also supreeeeeemly jealous of your volume of classic palm tree trunk pieces.
  15. I use Brickforge and Brickarms. Brickarms tries for a balance between Lego scale and accurate depiction of any given item. Brickarms has a wide variety of pieces that can be repurposed to amazing results. I am using plenty of Brickarms as plant material in my upcoming Nestlands vigs. Warning their blades are sharper than any other vendor. Brickforge is closer to true Lego in style. Brickforge has many items for high fantasy and sci-fi: weapons, armor and hair/beards. They also offer a range of modern accessories. Many items can be purchased in a rainbow of colors. They also have centaur bodies! I have plenty of non-standard uses for Brickforge products as well. I also have two BrickCommand pieces that are no longer in production. I plan to paint these. I don't have any BrickWarriors, BrickTW, Arealight, Altbricks or Amazing Armory parts, but all seem to be good quality, though for different reasons. It's all about knowing how to use aftermarket parts. Thus ends my cheerleading.
  16. This is a nice enough build for what it is. The fleshies took me a while to warm up to, but now I use them regularly. I have been using the light flesh for my Nestlands Clans figs. Flesh and medium dark flesh are also useful as desert people. You just have to ask yourself if you want your figs to be homogenous or diverse.
  17. Now I have to budget for next year! I'll finally be able to create the Armored Eagle Goddess for my GOH Nestlands Clans. New crystals too! Olive green boat! Lime green palm fronds! Gimme!
  18. If you want to know, Dextrus Flagg's armor and weapon are BrickTW and Brickarms respectively. The helmet is BrickTW Steel Helmets of Kin Dynasty Chrome Silver: http://shop.bricktw....in-dynasty.html The shield is actually BrickTW Army Cap of Ching Dynasty Chrome Gold: http://shop.bricktw....ng-dynasty.html The sword is Brickarms Claymore Chrome: http://www.brickarse...v3claymore.html gedren_y
  19. I'm working one more day a week, so my paychecks are , but my build time is . Hopefully I will be able to make my new schedule work for building and writing. It is good that the Nestlands have been free of the elemental attacks that have plagued most of Historica. Nestlands market should have quite a few visitors from other guilds seeking quality goods. I am also planning a trip for the Minister of External Affairs to Nocturnus. With possibly setting up an embassy.
  20. I am looking forward to this. Mostly for parts and what will have to be the most interesting face print in a long while, Tonto! What I am really hoping for out of this theme is a new bird mold. Yes, we should get more horses. I wonder if there will be any adobe architecture. That would probably seal the deal for me.
  21. I have just picked up three gold Duplo 2x2 bricks. Gotta get to building the Nestlands Office of the Minister of External Affairs (at least the exterior). I also plan to work on my Cobalt Vale Market, Skywatch Perch and Visiting Herbologists. NOMEA will probably have a Berigora soldier drunk over word of the distruction to the Causeway. Thanks for the motivation Gabe. I also have some Nocturnus exiles that might make an appearance once I get some painting done. Maybe I'll make a Nocturnian style restaurant.
  22. Ooof! Out of the loop for a while and I've got several pages to read. I've been busy with first preping for and now having my cousin and her family here from Germany. But in about a week, they should be leaving to explore southern Florida before returning home. Hopefully I will be getting back to building soon, but I don't think I will join in the Fifth Guild or Challenge V. I have several builds that I had planned to work on before this enforced hiatus that will have my attention. Also I still hope to get good pictures of all the characters I have made for GoH. Sdair Zuuree, with his sardonic wit, should be back soon. gedren_y
  23. Old news. It was reported long ago that Johnny Depp has signed on for six POTC movies.
  24. Wonderful and detailed. I had a shock moment though, when I saw that pic, because it looked like the back wall of the pavillion at my local park. It know it wasn't, but those walls are eerily similar, and there was some kind of event there yesterday that I didn't get to check out. I wonder how common that gray is with respect to event arenas.
  25. Classic! I actually had the T-Rex as a kid. I also had one of the ceratops dinos, but I can't remember which. Those were fun, but knowledge is a killjoy. Like the fact that humans and dinosaurs cannot exist in the same atmosphere, due to density and composition. Gravity and tidal forces were also different due to the moon being far closer to the earth in the time of the dinosaurs. I know, minifigs aren't humans, but my modern and scifi minifigs adhere to known scientific facts. This is what kills having a dinosaur theme for me, particuarly if the dinosaurs are faithful representations. The Dino Attack/2010 theme was actually better for me because they were supposed to be mutations let loose. I still enjoy my lizard-like raptor creature (black w/ lt. blue spots) because of this. I probably would only use the faithful represented dinosaurs as displays in a natural history museum, or on their own, in their own time. That means you don't mix dinosaurs from diferent eras.
