Wonderfully humorous and lively. I see your pearl gold trident under the boardwalk. And let's not overlook the beach towel designs, nice use of the Racers printed tile. You certainly make my top fav. in this contest. EDIT: I have just been reminded of the movie Point Break. Do you have the parts for early Keanu or Swayze?

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
gedren_y replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Yes, as stated before, the original reason for football players using the black lines was to reduce the glare coming from the lights used for night games, but modern stadiums light their fields with indirect light now. So it is mostly symbolic now, and many American athletes tend to have weird superstitions. I was right about the 'plate not tile' issue. But I'll be getting her all the same. I'll get multiples and brasso the lipstick off. For those who want a good torso printing for thier Conquistadors, just use the Pirate Captain's torso. Also, I wouldn't use TLG's foil rapier since the Brickarms rapier is far superior, but a conquistador wouldn't carry a rapier as it isn't a good shipboard weapon. You would be better served giving him Blackbeard's falchion style sword, as it would be ideal for hacking away at rainforest vegetation. It also goes better with his armor color. I might even swap heads with the Bavarian figure. As for the Diver, I'll just have to give it a good patina. I am all about the part out, so every figure has something to contribute, even the Fairy and Skier. The fairy torso has some uses, and the ski poles have been used to great effect in many a MOC. Even the Business Man fig has potential, with the bowler and head going to one of my Pharoahs Quest figs and the rest to be used for a fig of Sir John Inman as Wilbeforce Clayborne Humpfries. (I love Britcoms!) With the Pirate Captain, the face, torso and hat will find themselves on separate pirates in my collection, the hook will probably go to a sci-fi fig, and I don't use TLG cutlases except as wall mounts or statue weapons. I'm tempted to use the lasso as an open noose for a hanging. -
LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion

To those that have been talking about a trans-purple 1x1 round tile, it isn't a tile. Look at the bag image and you'll find it is a round plate. Some have been complaining about the new cheerleader. My only problem is that I was hoping for green, so that I could use the pompoms for plant parts. I can easily avoid buying a fig I don't want by feeling the bags, so I don't feel the need to be overly critical of what is offered. I will just have to get to my local Target and make my search when the time comes. -

How can anyone say they don't want the evil robot? That robotic arm is in black! Big want! The man-bat will be big for Batman builders that want to show him with the wings from Batman Begins. Is that hat on the Bavarian boy dark green? The new trophy mold is a want. -

For your creature's eyes, if you are willing to do stickers, get a sheet of metallic blue or silver stickers, cut small triangles to fit on the forward facing sides of the headlight bricks, and put white cheese slopes on the side of the bricks. That way your creature has forward binocular vision. -

Sorry, DaMaximus, but I have another correction for you. The Nestlands Clans are South of Qakyr as seen on this map: Map of Nestlands by gedren_y, on Flickr You have Belt Muntanji in the right place, as it has been agreed that it is on the southern face of Dun Nol. I do appreciate your attempts to get everyone accounted for and I am just trying to help you get it right. -

I just did the math, and a 32X64 base is 256 studs smaller than a 48x48 baseplate. If you want a rectangle you can do a 32x72 and still be in compliance for Challenge 4. -
Actually that builder is in Hong Kong. To the lighting question: I haven't tried it yet, but this is the best option I have found for interior lighting without a lot of heat. You might need several sets to light something as big as the example, though.

As stated here the Nestlands Clans call the mountain Dun Nol. Sdair Zuuree is from Dun Nol, but most of the clan settlements are on the north face. A southern neighbor is welcome in these times of peril, just remember that Dun Nol has been described as having the darkest rock in the region, and local plants tend to be poisonous. Hope to see some good building. An official visit may be in order. -
This IMHO has to be the most gratuitous and extreme use of the hourglass figure printing. The dimensions are grossly rediculous for a woman who is supposed to be a warrior. Since then TLG has gotten better at portraying women, but there is still room for improvement. To ash's point about Marrion Ravenwood, this from the white oufit version works for minimalist makeup.

I have two female heads that don't have lipstick: this and this.

As stated before, I use the fleshies, but it took we a while to warm up to them. I had only come back to Lego from my dark ages when I bought Jabba's Sail Barge (for parts) on sale at Walmart. I didn't like the fleshies then and was fool enough to give away all the figs except Lando, who's torso I still have on a fig for my Pirates theme. I'm not a big fan of Star Wars (like the movies but that's it), and I had no interest in Space at that time. It was Eurobricks that showed me space vigs that had a mix of yellow and fleshies. I realized then that I could do that with my castle figs. It also made me want to get back into space vigs. Now that I have joined in the guilds, I use more of my fleshies than ever. Maybe someone should create some fleshie emoticons.

Big upset! I'm a bit upset, but not much. Yes, I support Germany, but that is for solidarity with my American-German cousin. I'll support Italy in the final. It was said in the group stage that Italy could be the 'dark horse of the tournament'. Looks like it will happen. I'm betting Santino Marella is celebrating right now.

I use light flesh for my Nestlands Clans figs, since they are supposed to be decended from ancient northern peoples. I also use flesh for desert peoples. The people of the Kaliphlin Guild are of many races.

My BL order has just been shipped, as soon as I get it I'll begin work on five builds: Guild Challenge IV and four Nestlands vigs (one for the Commerce Challenge). I've got a group of figs (from every guild) ready to populate my scenes. The Nestlands Clans have been doing some great business as of late, but the Minister of External Affairs says we need to advertise our wares more. Hopefully our painters are up to the task. -
Don't you mean 'more hospitable' or 'less inhospitable'? Wonderful build, though. It really captures the feel of a cliffside fishing village. The mix of wood types lends to the idea that this spot has been re-built repeatedly by the inhabitants, as if this place had been battered by sea storms and the people have just gotten used to it.

I was for Italy today, but I'm for Germany in the semis. Cascadia Cup is on now, and the Sounders have conceded two goals to the Timbers.

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread

Only the information about Johnny Depp's current filming status and the PoTC 5 listing came from IMDb. The fact that Johnny Depp had signed a six picture deal with Disney was reported on E! (can't remember the program) before On Stranger Tides was released. [On a side note, it was reported that Mr. Depp is now single. Good hunting ladies. ] Back to the theme at hand, there are at least six more ships and plenty of scenes from the movie series that TLG can produce between movie releases. I doubt we'll see a return of Classsic Pirates until after the DVD release of the sixth movie. -

Do I spy a use of the Brickarms u-clip technique to create the vent flaps on the red and white tent, or is it a use of the corner panel technique? That gives me some ideas. Well then, back to building. -

I was wondering about multiple elementals as well. I have several design ideas. Also there has been some question of whether the principal build must be 48x48 or if that is just the maximum it should be. -
Wonderful build. Good texture without overloading the wall with unnecessary color changes. Lots of minifig life. About the guards above the arch, if the door is constructed with the way I think, they could have just climbed the back of the door.

Wonderful build with lots of visual interest. One question though; why did you choose to make your motorcycles with the chain drive on the right?
