I had no intention of picking up the UCS B-wing, but at 50% off I couldn't resist. However, I do feel sorry for people who previously picked it up at full price not expecting such a deal. Also, though not as much, I feel sorry for people who buy these sets as an investment and had future resale affected by a flood of cheap B-wings on the market. I love a great deal but at what sale % do you start alienating your fanbase by practically giving away the product? Is it worth the risk buying a UCS at full price when it could be discounted so heavily?

100 bucks for the B-wing, poster, and promo fig? This was a no brainer, don't care that I have to wait till the 16th for it.

Press Release 10237 - Tower of Orthanc
StoutFiles replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Looks incredible. I just hope they release Barad-dur with the exact same height so I can put them next to each other as the Two Towers. (One could do the same with Minas Morgul but I highly doubt that'll ever be a set). -
TLG will call it whatever you all want if it means you'll buy it. I think originally it worked because it was somewhat understood that UCS meant "one time only". Now that TLG realizes there's more money to be made from releasing repeats, they seem to have moved away from it. Frankly I think it's unfair to UCS collectors, but then again, I want a Falcon and don't want to Bricklink it or pay over $1000. On a different topic, the Sail Barge looks worse then the old model, and yet much too similar. That's a ship that really needs a UCS makeover for some accuracy, at that scale you're going to get an awkward design IMO.

http://www.deadline.com/2013/01/exclusive-no-more-star-wars-3d-prequel-releases-lucasfilm-passes-to-focus-on-new-trilogy/ It's too bad, had they started with the original trilogy they would have made a ton of money, but instead they gauged the performance of 3D releases on arguably the worst of the six films. Anyways, this could have a effect on Episode 2 and 3 sets going forward.

Just gotta pull it off. I know my design isn't the best, but something like it would sell like hotcakes. TLG could do a better job than I did. http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=66924

How much is your SW collection worth?
StoutFiles replied to Admiral-Ackbar's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Just remember, a set is only worth what people are willing to pay for it. Estimating value at what you paid will likely be way off...sets still in their original box will be worth more whereas used sets will be worth less, unless it's a unique set like the UCS Falcon. -
What're your favorite and least favorite Star Wars minifigures?
StoutFiles replied to Darthking623's topic in LEGO Star Wars
You mean when he fought Vader and died? Or when he fought Obi-Wan on Tatooine and died? Or when he annoyed Luke as a ghost? Yes, I'm aware of other Maul appearances but those weren't in works that have as high level of canon as TCW. They were basically fun "what-if" stories. TCW would be fine as a "what-if" story but it's deemed that these events happened so when the writers feel the need to introduce places, people, and events merely to cure writers block and/or keep the show on the air making money, then it bothers me. I don't want Lucas to over milk the cow killing it in the process. Now then. My favorite Jedi is Luke as he was left untouched by the prequels. He seems to have normal Jedi abilities instead of the superhuman abilities shown in the PT. -
What're your favorite and least favorite Star Wars minifigures?
StoutFiles replied to Darthking623's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm pretty sure what made him lame is that he came back in TCW. This is just my observation of opinions when his appearance in TCW was announced. Personally, dead characters should stay dead and not be revived in canon works purely to bring in viewers and sell merchandise. If any character that dies can be brought back, it kills all tension and hurts the credibility of the series. -
http://brickset.com/news/article/?ID=2809 It's 16 to 5 because of the target age group buying them, mostly adult AFOL's. I know some people here have closed their eyes, covered their ears, and screamed to avoid acknowledging it, but it's generally accepted the OT is favored over the PT for adult fans of SW, so it's business savvy to make sets that are guaranteed to make money. However, we will see if you are right in due time. They will eventually be forced to address the PT as they are beginning to run out of well known OT ships that are worth attempting, and have a lot of UCS sets to make before the license ends.
-
While I am thankful for TCW keeping the license alive, do not forget a big reason the license still exists is because OT sets sell so well. The Falcon was the highest grossing set last year for instance, and OT sets have vastly outperformed PT sets in the UCS line. Also, note that parents are the ones with the money, and they have an easier time justifying the price of an OT set, something they grew up with and enjoyed, over a PT/CW set that they didn't care for or never saw.

LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
StoutFiles replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
This set worries me. Every passing year it seems we get less pieces but better minifigs, and those figures are the main incentive to buy expensive sets. I'm not sure how much higher Lego prices can go before parents begin to justify what they're getting vs. what they're paying. There is not a lot of set here, just 6 highly valued figures. I remember when the build was the selling point... -
Since I bought this set for Leia alone, I decided to make a few changes, but limited myself to only using additional parts from the older Y-Wing (2007) in case anyone else wanted to try it. Original Overhead View: After MOD: -Shortened yellow strip on the front so it doesn't touch the nose nor go down the side. -Widened the droid compartment so the droid faces frontward. -Added more piping -Removed top loading bomb compartment -Decreased engine size -Removed flick fires Original Front View: After MOD: -Decreased width of connection to engines. -Connection to engines is now on the upper part of the engine instead of the middle. Close up: Bottom: Bombs are loaded and dropped by hinged black flap. More accurate in some parts, less in others (namely the width of the piper areas). Opinions?

Nothing would have changed. Liam Neeson hated working with Lucas so much that he considered quitting acting altogether after TPM. There's no way he would have done extended filming for the next two movies. Lucas may be one of the worst directors when it comes to getting the most out of his actors. You can see it in the prequels with the wooden acting by Hayden, Natalie, Samuel, and others.

A lot of MOCs / reviews have excellent pictures taken. I'm not just talking about the clarity though, they completely remove all background images and leave just the model on a sea of white. For all of you that do this, what is your setup? Do you shoot into a white backdrop or green screen? What software, if any, do you use? What caliber of camera do you use? I'd like to post better pictures myself but to do so I'd like to learn how others do it.

LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
StoutFiles replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Mini models appear to be worse in this calendar. While the figures are better, half of them were in the Hoth battlepacks that many bought multiples of. The only figure I would want this for is the new R2 unit, but I'm not sure if I could pass it off as an actual droid in a MOC because of the snowman features. Going to have to pass, again. -

I figured everyone had a Chewie by now. It's not like he wears different clothes, if you've got one he fits any situation. The reason Han and Chewie are left out is the Palace; TLG likes to spread figures out over available sets. -

Hate them. I've already described why in another thread, though. Mods, any chance Cuusoo could have a dedicated thread? -
Ultimate Collectors Scale All Terrain Armoured Transport
StoutFiles replied to cavegod's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm assuming that royalties won't be given to Star Wars MOCs on cuusoo? It's pretty obvious that TLG will one day make a UCS AT-AT, and they will likely choose their own design. -
Hate it. Then again, I hate all the sets that build large figurines, the unique pieces used just don't feel like Lego.

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here

Agree with Brickadeer, they will no doubt make another one within the next 5 years which will likely be a better design as well as cheaper. Wait if you can. -
LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
StoutFiles replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Given that the system B-wing is a little too small, and the extra pieces that will be needed for UCS accuracy, it's more than likely it will be minifig scale with at least one exclusive figure. -
Very nice MOC, love the speeder in forced perspective. Hate this scene with a passion though for making the Jedi superheroes.

Tantive IV with Bail/Leia/Antilles. Does it really matter though? TLG put a TIE Interceptor with the first Death Star so it's not like they care about planet/ship accuracy. -

It makes sense to put out OT planets now because they want to save the PT planets for when the movies come out. For example, the next winter wave will likely be Kamino, Coruscant, and Geonosis to coincide with Episode II 3D. Alderaan will definitely be made, it's actually the best planet for this line as it blows up and that can now be reenacted.
