They should know better than to attack Kahuka! There's a lot going on here for sure. The use of the tipis is cool for a pirates-theme creation. It does seem just a bit "busy" for a contest entry, but that's just me. Good idea for an entry.

This is a very neat design, dirtied only by the incredible volume of blood running down the staircase. I'm pretty sure that pirate is dead by now. The headdress is perhaps the most imposing Lego headgear I've ever seen. Nice use of the Aztecs in a pirate build. Good work.

PTV 2015 Small: Say 'Incorrect parking' again, I dare you!
Captain Dee replied to mrsniady1's topic in Pirate MOCs
Such insolence... And a good bit of humor among the darker contest entries as well. It would take more effort to get the boat out of the water versus just tying her fast, so apparently the pirate in question just wanted to be difficult. But then most of them were. Funny entry.- 14 replies

This is the most unique of all the contest entries. The figure is very creative, the statue head looks great and the base is excellent with all the vegetation in a more realistic scale. Good work.

The statue and boat are both very good. This reminds me of the Pacific rather than, say, the Caribbean, but it's still a fine creation. Oh, and if I'm in that boat that pizza would disappear faster than you can say "Davy Jones' locker." Nice one again.

PTV 2015 Small - Bluecoats' mini-modular (16x16)
Captain Dee replied to Kalais's topic in Pirate MOCs
The exterior is slightly "busy" but overall you've managed to put a lot of detail into a small space. Towers (or some form of vertical building) are natural for contests with base restrictions and this one certainly does the job. I immediately thought "Sabre Island" upon seeing it. I especially like those balconies. Good work.- 10 replies

Well... so much for the anchor. It had so much life left in it... Not so violent perhaps but a definite end to another red... Nice job with the effects in the first photo.

Excellence yet again, vitreolum. Everything is neat and tidy. The buildings are great, the tower looks nice in the back, and overall it's just a very good composition. You have a good variety of activity too. My favorite parts are the bunch of bananas, the crab, the posing of the chimp, and the overall shape and smoothness of the sand. Very good.

This scene represents one of the staples of pirate lore and is nicely done. Walking the plank rarely happened; most victims were tossed overboard, so this is a more accurate portrayal. He's a goner for sure, especially with a tall dorsal slicing through the crests. The build is neat and clean, but a gunport that low wouldn't be very useful. Perhaps we should assume the scurvy sea rats are riding low with a hold full o' gold. Nice work.

PTV 2015 Large: Islander Chief's Mysterious Cave
Captain Dee replied to Heksu's topic in Pirate MOCs
This one has a decidedly dark, sinister atmosphere to it that is enhanced by the lighting. If I were those pirates I'd be screaming too... and running like a bullet in the opposite direction. I really like the expression of the statue head.- 13 replies

This is a very well-textured creation. The hut looks fantastic and the trees are magnificent. I like the layout and the various iron-working details are nice. With regards to working without shelter, I don't see a big problem. Many of the early bloomery furnaces (used for smelting raw iron into malleable wrought iron) were built as freestanding outdoor structures. But the specifics varied greatly from place to place and time to time. The story (well written and illustrated) uses high heat as the main mode of action, and too many ironworks-builders fail to realize how extreme those working conditions often were. Something like this would have you sweating just standing close, and working the tools all day would be grueling to say the least. But that's enough chatter. This is an excellent composition.

PTV 2015 Large:The Last Bottle or The Golden Age of Piracy
Captain Dee replied to DwalinF's topic in Pirate MOCs
This is a very good village. The variety of buildings and techniques is refreshing, and you've made good use of color throughout. The base is great, and that water technique looks better than I would've expected. There's a decent amount of action, although in the spirit of the contest a little more would've been nice. Very good design.- 18 replies

This is a very fine creation and it reminds me of a certain palace built by Captain Braunsfeld. The classic red roof looks great with tan walls, and the white windows really stand out. A little more lawn space would be nice, but that could easily get out of hand from a builder's perpective. The courtyard wall technique makes it look aged, and the cobblestone is a simple way of spicing up the plain baseplates. The marching band is cool and I like the carriage. Vincent, you've done well.

The Wall: Rome's Northern Frontier
Captain Dee replied to Macsen Wledig's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
If I published illustrated dictionaries, I'd include your overview photo by the entry for "mind boggling." Trying to comprehend what 105 big baseplates looks like in person short-circuited my processor. The overall apperance is excellent, and the sheer volume of detail is beyond anything I've yet seen. But that's what collabs are for, right? I don't need to tell you this is extraordinary; I checked out the group and the word "epic" was used prominently which is most appropriate. Sadly I won't be able to see it in person, but at least I have a few pics to pore over. Could you share any more? Magnificent is an understatement.- 54 replies

I appreciate your disclaimer, but it isn't so terribly bad, is it? At any rate it's a fine contest entry. The two ships look good and there's plenty action and bloodshed, as per the contest rules, which is more than can be said for some. The fallen soldier in the monkey pic looks to be about the right height with the 1x2 brick, although the arms and legs are obviously way too short (And yes, I'm referring to overall bodily stature, not the focus of the scene.) The redcoat doubled over in front of the lady pirate looks familiar - have I seen him somewhere before? Good work and good luck with the contest.

Now that is one serious action scene - definitely Out For Blood. It really keeps the eye busy, aided no doubt by the low angle and well-placed minifigs. My favorite part is the monkey and pirate descending on the ropes - of all the weapons he could be carrying, he has a bottle! I also like the toppled and burning mast; it just looks so natural with the trans-orange round up top with fire shooting up it. The cannonball path is so well executed that it looks like a digital alteration at first glance. There doesn't seem to be a clear victor though. Perhaps they're still fighting... Good work.

That's a lovely fortress, especially the long building in the back. The landscape looks nice and natural, and I really like the rock arch. The dark grey in the walls breaks up the light grey nicely. You've got adequate firepower without being overkill. The action scenes are well built, especially the guillotine, but man, bringing out the firing squad over a few loaves of bread seems harsh. Remind me not to "knock over" any vendors whenever I visit... This is just a very good all-around composition. If I had but one critique (and it pains me to say this) it could really use quite a bit more of the "Out for Blood" type of action. But that's your call to make. Good work.

Lots of differing opinions on this one - although I suppose that's normal. Quick question - what exactly is a "Nexo Knigh"? (From the first poll question)

The Master of Variety strikes again! I think it looks pretty good even if it is mostly grey. It definitely has a dark mood. The various stones and monuments look nice. Robin would surely approve...

Classic Bluecoats! The concept isn't new but the build is still pretty good. Ol' Brickbeard had better have some serious tricks up his sleeve to escape this one. I like the water and I must admit the Technic palm design has grown on me - a little. If I were the lead soldier I think I'd go for a musket instead of the cutlass, but he looks pretty confident. Anyone else think of "The Lion King" with scenes like this? Nice job overall.

PTV: The Treasure Map - Trapdoor - Gold Tooth - Recycling- Trap
Captain Dee replied to Matthias's topic in Pirate MOCs
Oh dear... I just had lunch... *puts hand over mouth* At least I don't have any gold teeth! No, seriously, this is a unique and imaginative take on the contest. There's a lot going on in a small area and the layout does a good job of implying the action without the need for a lengthy description. Greedy, greedy. All of them. Tsk tsk tsk. Those pirates are definitely "Out for Blood!"- 13 replies

[MOC] Captain Cookie's Only Pirate Gang
Captain Dee replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Pirate MOCs
Oh, make no mistake, I know exactly who and what this represents. But I didn't know The Barnacles was an actual group (seems like a strange name for a band, but then most of them are I suppose). I just made it up as a way of keeping the beginning and end of the real name intact while keeping it pirate-related. As a parody (I mean parrot-y, sorry) it sounded better than, say, "The Cockroaches." The "backwards" part should read "more nutty than a fruitcake." Jumping bands (from Sergeant, er, Captain Cookie's to ABBA) we find that wonderful hit "Monkey Monkey Monkey." Is this one of the *wink* strangest posts ever recorded on EB, or what? That's a pretty neat setting. The colors are nice and the atmosphere with the dark background is cool. Those minifigs work reasonably well as modernized Forestmen. And I like the tree too. Classic is good.

[MOC] Captain Cookie's Only Pirate Gang
Captain Dee replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Pirate MOCs
Quick question, Captain B. What's the name of the group? "The Barnacles"? Apparently the monkey has been listening to the one that was banned by the BBC (Bricktish Broadcasting Corp.) - you know, "Happiness is a Smoking Cannon." Not from this collection, but... Took me a little, I admit. Edit: Yeah, anyone who thinks Pirate Paul is dead is more fruity than a nutcake. Wait, I got it backwards...- 29 replies
