Speaking of which, I got a Target Practice polybag last night at a Target here in San Jose. Special thanks to Cara for letting me know it was there.

I agree with this. When I came back to Lego recently, I found that I had a mental image in my head of how awesome my Lego sets from my youth used to be, but that image was way different from reality. The wolfpack and forestmen from my youth (and the original pirates) are quite simply less detailed than the building techniques and minifigs of today. I found the same to be true of "saturday morning" (kids) cartoons on television. Go back and watch something like Transformers or He-Man or whatever kids cartoon you remember from your youth. After about 40 seconds you'll realize that those shows have really bad animation and production values. It's like that; you remember things in a rosy light, and how you remember it is skewed by your perception as a child. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I only had a few forestmen and wolfpack sets as a kid. Good thing I'm an adult now and can buy them all ahahahAHAHAHAHA!!! I liked how you mentioned the ghost too. I forgot about him! My godchildren have all my old Lego now (my mom gave them away). It's good to know that they might be playing around with my old forestmen and captain redbeard right now.

TLG has to save fantastic "must-have" minfigs for future waves, right? I want to see a Calypso minifig. -

Eurobricks' 2nd LDD RCB
Zeya replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I know what a BURP is (big ugly rock piece), but what is a BPP? A quick google search comes up short. I'm looking forward to joining the build (PM sent). -
Thank you everyone for the wonderful comments. I really appreciate it. I think LDD might actually be more flattering for this type of MOC since it gives everything a nice magical glow to it! Maybe one day when I have enough bricks, I will recreate this out of actual ABS. Up until I made this MOC in LDD, I had just been buying and putting together official sets off the shelf. Of course that's about all I could do since I had no bricks. But I'm going to start making MOCs soon. I've got one of these Akro-Mils drawer cabinets coming to put bricks in, and then I will start designing a MOC to build. I'm going to start with a beach scene of me, my girlfriend, and our 3 dogs; we got to the beach sometimes for fun, you see. I also kind of want to build a model of my house, but that might be a bit more challenging to get to actually look good, and I will have to learn all kinds of building techniques for that - more of a long-term goal.

Hello, monster thread! I'm about 3 months into this new hobby of mine, and the shelves are starting to get full. Time to think about breaking down some built sets and storing them away, particularly my winter toy shop and bakery. I finally got over my mental stumbling block where I didn't want to throw boxes away. (I even kept the empty clear brick bags you cut open! Why!?) I've decided to go with the Akro-Mils cabinets. The 44-drawer one in particular looks like a nice start: I think I'll just get one to start with since it has a mix of big and small drawers. If anyone is interested, here is a nice link to see their product page. And here is a link to a pdf file with some stats; see page 2 with the measurements. Looks like most of them have the same width so that you can stack them, with the exception of the 16-drawer one, which is probably not what most people want anyway. Am I strange for being a little excited about storing Lego? I'll try and answer these after I get my 44-drawer Akro-Mils cabinet. But from what I've read, they do in fact stack and have grooves for that, but I don't know if they lock together like giant Lego bricks. #2 is a good question. I see a bunch of the clear plastic trays with cubbys and a lid at the bead and craft area of craft stores. If you're in the USA, try Michaels and on the left side of the store they have the bead area with those things. Bring a minifig with you and test them out. This is also the area of the store where I buy the tiny 2x2 inch ziploc bags in which I will keep minifigures.

You should have shouted out the stats from BL. Here they are: Min Price: US $33.00 Avg Price: US $41.24 Qty Avg Price: US $40.91 Max Price: US $69.95 Lucky find! That's a $32.29 value using the min current price!

Future Community Build?
Zeya replied to Zeya's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
That's totally cool with me. I just wanted to "poke the badger" and see if we could get the ball rolling. I would like to participate in the build this time though, if that's okay. Maybe in the future I will put together a more concrete proposal and host the build... -
There's a good chance of that. I got mine on about January 2nd, 2011 at the Lego store in Santa Clara, CA, USA. I noticed that their boxes had some wear and tear. The one I got had just a bit of a crushed corner, and that came from behind the one in front that had even more damage. (Not that I care about the box so much, but wanted to avoid my chances of bent instructions and sails.) It's good to hear that they are cardboard-backing instructions now.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
Zeya replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
So it's looking like TLG is varying what is in each box, right? Initial reports said there were 2 fishermen, but then I see other lists like this where there are more than that. Has anyone else drawn the same conclusion? -
This was a really well-written review. I know it's been up for a while, but thank you just the same. I just finished putting together my Imperial Flagship yesterday. I was late to the game getting this set due to being in my dark ages still. I have some feedback on my thoughts. I had some quality issues, too. I didn't notice a problem with my instructions though. I found myself missing one piece (a "flag pole" type piece used for the railing by the tiller/wheel). Also, another piece that should have been reddish brown was dark brown instead. These issues always seem to happen with these larger sets; usually I find myself missing a tiny 1x1 stud, but this time the issues involved larger pieces, unfortunately. I also found that my reddish brown parts had color variations. If you put them side-by-side, you can see that some are a different hue than the others. Another minor quibble is that the pearl dark gray of the cannons had striations in it, but I think that might just be the way that color works out, anyway. And lastly, as people always gripe about, the instructions came folded, and unfortunately for this set, my sails were bended too. It's hard to get them flat again. All TLG needs to do is back these things with very thin cardboard-like paper and then in the plastic bags. That is how I got comic books in the mail for years, and those always arrived in acceptable shape. You can't tell me a little bit of thick paper costs too much money; that argument doesn't fly with me, especially not when I'm spending $180 on a set. I read somewhere that TLG will start doing just that for at least the larger sets, and it can't come soon enough. Hmm. I got no such extra dress. That must be a thing with earlier sets that they have since fixed. Consider yourself lucky! But all-in-all I'm happy with this set. I was surprised at how large the thing is! It looks really good on the shelf. I can't wait to get a Queen Anne's Revenge later this year and have another Lego ship on my shelf.

[KEY TOPIC] Eurobricks MOC LXF Index
Zeya replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I just made my first MOC. Here is the original thread where I posted it: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=50854&st=0 And here is the image and LXF file: LXF File -
This is my first MOC. I give it the title "Where Amelia Landed". It is done in LDD (Lego Digital Designer), because I have a very small collection right now as I essentially just started this hobby. Here's an image and the LXF file. Comments after the jump! LXF File I originally started out wanting to do an organic nature scene. I had a vision of a small waterfall with some foliage around it. I didn't want to get too carried away, since this is my first MOC, so I decided to keep it small and within the confines of this 16x16 baseplate. I was going to put in a minifigure of a hiker. I decided to make her a woman. And then I found the jacket and pilot helmet and she just became Amelia Earhart! So I guess that makes this a historical MOC. I then moved on and added some pieces of her wrecked plane. Her propeller is set up on a pole with a flag, and her cockpit seat and console are set up in hopes of picking up radio signals for rescue. Some flowers have overgrown onto the radio equipment, but she doesn't mind. I started out making it so that all the bricks would be purchasable from the Lego store (DesignByMe/PickABrick or whatever), but then I just had to throw the frog in! Thank you for stopping by and looking at my humble offering!

I really liked that community build that happened a while back, even though I couldn't participate at the time. I hope another one happens again. Maybe we can discuss and post here about future community build ideas? My idea is a build where the theme is "landscape", and the rule is that you can't add any human elements to the build, or maybe no human elements until the last few turns. The idea is to keep it more of a wilderness and animals thing. Maybe there would be a waterfall, a large cliff, and hopefully a whole lot of plants and foliage. Hmm makes me want to just start building a MOC of this myself in LDD, lol. What do you guys think? Any cool ideas for a future community build? Maybe some clever restrictions and loose rules for people to find clever ways to get around?

I think I'm going to comment on this once and then never again, just because this is one of those things that won't reach a consensus. Here goes. I'm an American. It is my understanding that this is mostly and American mistake. Maybe it's because we generally have a crappy education system here; I'm not sure. But I offer this as an explanation. Let's take another brand besides Lego. Let's say Kleenex. It's a brand of tissue paper, but its name has become synonymous with the main product. "Can I have a couple of Kleenexes, please?" Would that be bad grammar? I'm honestly not sure. But people refer to a single leaf of tissue paper as "a Kleenex". It happens that people here refer to a Lego brick as "a Lego". It follows that multiple Lego bricks would be referred to as "some Legos". I guess the root of the problem lies in the fact that people think a single Lego brick is "a Lego". It bears mentioning that I've even seen ads from TRU that use the (non?) word "Legos" right in big red letters. It's become the norm here. The first time I heard about this issue was the very first time I posted on these forums. I typed out "Legos" and someone immediately pointed out that was wrong. Point being, I went my entire life having no idea that "Legos" was incorrect usage. In my mind, the brand and a single brick were one and the same, just like Kleenex. Perhaps somewhere there are AFOKs (adult fans of kleenex) that get riled up in the same way. Ehl oh ehl. That all being said, I have started making a point even in speech to correctly say "Lego" without the s and "Lego bricks", etc. I just offer this as an explanation of why people say those dirty words. Well I'm heading home from work now. My girlfriend was offered a job today after much job searching, so I'm in a good mood. I might finish my Imperial Flagship tonight! Take it easy everyone.

That's pretty cool. I love the MGS games and I'd like to see more of these. It would be cool to turn one of the new NASA set pilots into "The Fury" from MGS3. Or maybe a blacktron guy would be best for that.

Bricks by the Bay 2011 Convention SF Bay Area, USA
Zeya replied to Paul Sinasohn's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
Cool, I live in San Jose and I'd like to go to this. I would be interested in a "storing and sorting" talk, but make sure it doesn't go on for terribly long or people might get bored :). I would also be interested in the Bricklink one and maybe collecting rare elements. Perhaps I can suggest a more local talk? Just an idea, but it would be cool to go over local Lego resources, like which stores sell Lego because maybe there are some I don't know about. Oh and getting local stores to give away exclusive coupons would be a big bonus, if you can swing that. Other than that, I would just go to see some stuff that other people have made. -
Oh I wanted an advent calendar but apparently waited too long. They were all sold out her by around December 5th. I'll know better next year.
-
Supposedly: TRU, Walmart, Target, and Borders. I've only seen them with my own eyes at TRU (and purchased some there) and Borders. I'm constantly checking Target and haven't seen them. On occasion when I happen to be at the cesspool that is Walmart, I check for them, but haven't seen them.

Ah that's too bad. I was hoping those impulses were a surprise and we might get more. I'm still hoping that the 30061 and 30062 polybags might fill that role in the coming year. Please Lego, make more of those! I passed on the 2010 Kingdoms battlepacks. I got about 4 feet away and could spot the defects (prints were way off basically). Not to be a downer or anything, but it really put me off. Here's hoping for a civilian pack or six. That would be awesome.

Why stop at glue? Dip that bad boy in carbonite and keep it in one piece forever!

Medieval Market Village all the way. I just built this set, and it's as fantastic as everyone says. There are so many detailed parts, and this set is not "parts stingy" like you can sometimes feel with other sets. The buildings are really well designed and look great. I can't recommend it enough. Diagon Alley looks pretty strong too. I'd say only consider that over MMV if you're a big HP fan. I must admit I haven't built Diagon Alley though, so maybe I'm a little bit biased.
-
We've seen some leaked sets now. Are there perhaps other sets we haven't seen? I'm thinking of this year's Jester and Wizard tiny impulses. Maybe there will be some small ones like that? Were the Jester and Wizard impulses leaked last year or did they end up being a surprise? And maybe there will also be a large exclusive, unless they keep MMV around?
-
Ohh I had to stare at it for a minute, too. Notice how all the minifigs by the blue circle are more bunched together than the ones on the outside? I think it's saying that the circled ones are exclusive to Target and the ones outside the circle aren't exclusive. But yeah that is a terrible ad that is unclear. A written explanation would be nice.
