  1. Over Christmas when my mother was in town we watched "Temple Grandin". It stars Claire Danes as a young woman who has autism and ends up going to college and eventually comes up with some very interesting innovations for cattle processing (butchering), uh, farms I guess you would call them. It was pretty good, but the way the main character is always yelling becomes grating after a while. What can I say, it was a movie my mom brought with her. :) We also saw Toy Story 3, which was definitely good, but was maybe a little too dark in parts. Creepy cock-eyed baby doll, anyone?
  2. Got this for Christmas. It's pretty funny. "The Daily Show" is a comedy news show that probably only airs in the USA, and this book is co-authored by writers from the show: It's kind of a coffee table book with a bunch of photos and such, but it's all geared to make you laugh.
  3. Finished it, and it's posted in the other thread. :)
  4. 7947 Prison Tower Rescue LXF File ERRORS AND ISSUES Replacements (original part # not found even in Universe mode): -52 "Metallic Gold Rock 1x1 Crystal 5 point" with 6269 "Cup without wreath" -89524 "Metallic Silver Horse Battle Helmet (Unicorn)" with 48492 "HORSE HEAD SHELL" -30561 "Dark Bluish Gray Hinge Cylinder 1 x 2 Locking with 2 Fingers and Axle Hole On End" with an array of 3794 attached to 60471 takes its place. These are the pieces that make the flag holder in front of (above) the gate. -251 "Dark Green Dragon Baby 'Norbert'" replaced with 33320 "Frog". Miscellaneous Notes: -"Extra pieces" shown on Bricklink inventory not included -89513 castle gate piece is omitted due to absence in LDD. (Failed attempts at making my own gate that will fit in the slots properly.) -String for gate is likewise absent. There is a string in LDD but it doesn't flex as of version 4.0 -All minifigures are approximations (lacking prints, colors, proper accessories, etc). Using placeholders here. -The horse and his accessories are wrong. Helmet is a replacement, horn is a placeholder. -Horse lacks print (on the horse head) -Horse barding piece lacks print -All shields lack printing
  5. Not purist, but if it comes to it, you could modify this head gear maybe: http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/White_Ninja_Princess
  6. Just a word of caution about TRU. I bought about 15 (5 sets of 3) packets of collectible minifigures at TRU during their buy-two-get-one-free sale. I tried to return 3 of them today (duplicates), and they all rang up as $0. I guess they take returns on the "free ones" first. If I were to return 8 packets, it would eat up the 5 "free" ones without returned money and THEN start returning money to me for 3 of them. See what I mean? Pretty lame, eh? So I think there's a way around this. For these types of sales, just make sure to ring them up 3 at a time in separate sales. Then you should be able to make a returns in the way you would expect. Same goes for buy-one-get-one sales, I suppose. P.S. A mere two or three days after the sale, they lowered their prices on the collectible minifigs by a dollar, pretty much nullifying the sweet deal I thought I was getting. TRU kind of sucks.
  7. You're going to want to make a haystack, asap. And a bench with some other guys on it. Lol, I love those games too. I got the new Brotherhood game for Christmas, but I haven't played it yet. My girlfriend forgot there was an AC2 and wants to play through that first so I don't spoil anything for her. (Not that I think there's much to spoil anyway.) I'd say take a close look at the parts from PoP. As you probably know, PoP and AC games are both made by Ubisoft, although I realize the PoP movie->Lego is different, but you may find some good weapons or accessories in there, maybe there's a sash? At least a sword? On the head, you're going to want a scar on the lip. I have yet to figure out why, but Altair, Ezio, and Desmond all have this scar. Must be a strong genetic trait I guess!
  8. About this image, I have to say I don't think they will film it from the side, far away like this photo. The stern is probably that high for shots on the deck so it looks more dramatic when the captain comes out of his cabin, for example. If they have a full-on shot of the ship, I think it would be CG or another set altogether, because that really does look ridiculous. I think this one here is the one they use to shoot on-ship scenes. The only way that stern can look good/normal is from a different perspective like looking on from the bow. So really, I don't think the Lego set will look quite this disproportionate.

  10. I want to ask a few questions of our community to get some perspective on some of the Lego club/store perks. Sometimes it's a little obscure trying to read the "marketing speak" on official Lego literature. A lot of their wording seems to be intentionally mysterious and exciting to get you to come into the store or visit the website, know what I mean? 1. Is there more than the Lego club magazine? I opened a Pirates impulse last night and there was an insert that confused me a little. It said something like "free for two years" and had a photo of a magazine cover with Indiana Jones that is probably from 3 years ago. But that seems to imply that there's some fee, when in my understanding there is just the free Lego club magazine that comes once a month. Am I missing something here? Or is there perhaps some sort of premium paid magazine? 2. Have you done one of the monthly mini model builds at the Lego store? I saw a photo that looked kind of underwhelming. But hey free bricks I guess. Is it worth it for an AFOL? I'm guessing this type of thing is more for kids anyway, right? 3. I see mention of prepackaged PAB things in boxes or something. What exactly is that all about? Is it worth it? 4. Well I think I read up on Brickmaster and the new Master Builder's Club, which sounds intriguing to me. That's supposed to start later this year around September, correct? The idea of getting a little set every other month sounds really cool to me, especially if they're exclusive sets for existing themes and have any sort of special pieces/figs at all. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of information on it yet, if I'm not mistaken. 5. Club codes. Any I should know about other than the one for $5 off a $20 purchase (USA)? The rest are kind of just gimmicky, right? 6. Do you know of any other Lego/club style features of interest to an AFOL that I may not be aware of?
  11. On Jan 1st they had buy 2 get 1 half off, on all sets (and collectible minifigures).
  12. Looks like nobody has done 7947 Prison Tower Rescue yet. I'm going to scoop that up and do it now unless it didn't make its way to the index yet for some reason.
  13. To what? $2.99 like on S@H?
  14. I have an awesome fireplace mantle where I put sets. For Christmas, I had my winter village bakery and toy shop sets on there alone as a nice decoration. Shortly after, I built all (well most of) the 2010 Kingdoms sets and now they're on one side. Also there are two nice staggered stand-alone shelves screwed into the wall for a few more sets. Collectible minifigs are on a bookshelf in the study/office. But I'll probably stow them in little plastic bags some time soon to avoid getting knocked around and lost. I have to think about breaking down and storing some of the sets soon. Which means I have to sort everything into little plastic drawers/bins or something... :/ My house is on the smallish size with about 1200 square feet (111 square meters), shallow closets, so storage and space can be a bit of an issue.
  15. Ahaha nice. I like the little parrot on his head. I have never seen that set before. I wonder if there are others like that in the pirate theme.
  16. Wow! Okay what happens if they start packing Lego in with condoms? You rip it open and there's a Trojan (condom) and a Trojan (collectible minifig)?
  17. I would also like to add that my girlfriend likes Thomas the Tank Engine (a british "kids show"). I've bought her a couple of the die-cast figures. Sometimes we watch old Thomas episodes on Netflix before going to sleep. (It's narrated by Ringo Starr and Alec Baldwin by the way. It used to have pretty impressive hand-made sets but in the past year they sadly changed it all to mediocre CGI.) Watching Thomas really takes the edge off things like the ten o'clock evening news and paying that mortgage bill a couple hours prior. The Lego (Duplo?) Thomas sets are more or less gone from the market now, but I don't think she would like those anyway since Lego or building bricks aren't her thing. Anyway she doesn't criticize me for the occasional lego purchase. I am starting to worry about cluttering up the house with built sets and finding the time to take them down and store them away, but there's another pinned thread for that. Buying from stores isn't much of a concern for me. And for you younger folks, you get less embarrassed about what you buy as you get older. When you're a "working stiff" and it's your own hard-earned cash you kind of stop feeling guilty or at least embarrassed about what you buy. I think if I bought Lego between the ages of 15 and 21 I would have been a little nervous and said "this is for my cousin's birthday" or something. I would have definitely been embarrassed about dating a new girl and her reaction at little plastic men everywhere. I was embarrassed at encroaching hair loss too, but it's kind of like that; you just get more comfortable in your own skin as you get a little older and past that clubbing/partying age. You stop sweating the small stuff in life, I guess.
  18. (Regarding TRU returns...) I found some info on the TRU return policy website: " Online purchases can also be returned to any Toys"R"Us or Babies"R"Us store location for merchandise credit when returned within 90 days of the purchase date. Click here for a list of exceptions to our 90 day policy. " " Exceptions to 90-Day Policy Return Guidelines for Video Games, Accessories, and Systems/Computer Software/VHS Cassettes/DVDs/Music/Electronics/Radio-Control Items/ Trading Cards/Collectibles/ Consumer Electronics/Monitors and Breastpumps We will accept returns of the following items within 45 days from the date of purchase: video games, accessories, and systems; computer software; VHS cassettes; DVDs; music; electronics; radio-control items; trading cards; collectibles; consumer electronics; monitors and breastpumps. The original in-store receipt or online packing slip is required and the item must be returned in its unopened and factory-sealed package. If the item has been opened, we will not be able to process the return. " No big deal I guess, but they might restrict you to 45 days depending on if the collectible minifigs are considered collectible. Also, when they sell s3 online, you can buy that way and return in-store, but they won't do a full refund, just store credit. I'm trying to find ways to game the system here, short of being a real jerk about it. I'm not going to "farm" elves, but I am trying to avoid paying for much more than 16 of these things. I'm not going to comb through their whole stock, but I think I may try and buy a full unopened box going forward.
  19. Has anyone else noticed the utter lack of extra parts in series 3? In s1 and s2, they would include an extra visor, extra statue accessory, extra ski pole, etc. But I have all but 4 of the s3 figures and haven't seen any extras at all.
  20. Welcome! I too was basically lured in by the collectible minifigures. Actually it all started as a casual visit to Lego.com and I was impressed by all the products. Then my girlfriend nudged me to buy the Creator Beach House set at a store. Then I bought all Series 1 minifigures, and then I started buying exclusive sets and Kingdoms sets... and here I am lol. It's good to see other people interested in kingdoms too.
  21. Wow thanks for the responses! I'll have to try out the wanted lists feature a bit more, although right now there are only about 5 items I would really want to buy anyway as I'm short on cash. (Just got in a fender bender yesterday so money is hurting even more now. ) Edit: Just checked out the wanted lists. That feature is so awesome. It makes it much easier to see which stores may be the best to buy multiple things from. I love it! I have another question. I'm looking at getting a recently discontinued set (Brickbeard's Bounty, LINK). In this example, the first half of the page are sellers outside my country (USA). They're asking for 85 to 90 dollars. When you scroll down, you start seeing sellers in my country/hemisphere selling at around 100 or 120 dollars. Now, many of these sellers in Europe will ship to the US. But my question is, would that be generally worth it to buy from a seller that far away? I'm thinking it would just end up costing about 20 bucks more in shipping costs to hop the big pond. I could just do a couple of invoices here and there to get shipping quotes, but I thought I'd ask some of you veterans what to keep an eye out for here.
  22. I got $140 in gift cards to my local Lego store and $25 in gift cards to TRU, with which I bought: 10210 - Imperial Flagship 6239 - Cannon Battle 6240 - Kraken Attackin 8803 - Collectible Minifigures series 3 x15 Of course I spent a fair amount of my own money to get these too. Spent about $40 on the flagship at Lego store and maybe $30 on the minifigs at TRU.
  23. Series 3 Have: Elf x2 Pilot x1 Need: Fisherman x1 Space Villain x1 Hula Girl x1 Race Car Driver x1 Send a PM please. I would trade an Elf for 2 or 3 of the other ones I need. Elves go for ~9 on BL, Fisherman for ~6 and the others ~3. So Elf for Fisherman and one other or Elf for the three of the other figs I need. Thanks. Edit: Oh yeah and these are all MISB/unopened and I would expect yours to be as well. Thanks.
  24. My first BL order ever was with "Harry D's Construction CO". I ordered about 8 or so of the S2 collectible minifigs about a month ago. He was very helpful and had good communication. I think it was free shipping, too.
  25. I assume this is an ongoing thread where people can ask questions, right...? 1. Can anyone share an experience buying a used set on BL? Any nightmares or sad stories? Basically, I came out of my dark age too late for Pirates and I would really like to buy (for building) at least Brickbeard's Bounty, if not the other two larger sets. I don't really care if the bricks are sealed, as long as they're not all chewed up and ruined, or more importantly, I don't want any missing pieces. What can I expect buying a large used set on BL? 2. With the series 3 collectible minifigures... I need 4 specific ones. I'm inclined to just buy them on BL but I'd like them sealed. Has anyone had any problems with buying those off BL (i.e. wrong figure gets shipped)? I'm thinking about the whole dimple-and-feeling-and-confusion system they have for series 3. 3. How do you more experienced people decide which BL "store"/vendor to buy from? The one time I did it, I just looked for the cheapest price on what I was buying and found one reasonable close to me in the interest of keeping shipping costs low. Do you have any tips? 4. Do you have any other miscellaneous tips for a BL newbie? Thanks.
