I just finished building both FB sets. Grindelwald’s Escape is one of my favorite sets in a while since I love Lego carriages and the new Thestrals are just breathtaking. Both figures are amazing as well and Seraphina looks very nice in sand blue. Newt’s suitcase is a good set and the creatures are very cool, but the Occamy is almost impossible to pose unless it’s on studs and the mouths on the Occamy and Thunderbird are surprisingly difficult to open unless you have long nails. The suitcase itself is a very nice build and I quite like it. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there’s a picture of Leta Lestrange in the hut! I hope we get more FB sets in the future.

Fantastic Beasts sets were available at a Barnes and Noble here, I picked up Newt’s Case and two of the Grindelwald’s Escape sets.

The molded dragons have about as much mobility as the brick built Ninjago dragons but look much better in my opinion.

I’d love a new first task set. I’d prefer a completely molded Horntail (so maybe like a $70-80 set with 400-500 pieces but new dragon molds) although a molded head and maybe molded wings and the rest brick built would work fine. I like Frank, the Occamy, and the Green Ninja Mech Dragon and those all have molded heads but brick built bodies. I found out some more info about the D2C preordering. I’m in Houston right now (I live in Michigan) and I went to a Lego Store today with my little cousin. The store we went to had 45 spots total and 9 preorders already, while my local store has 75 spots and 11 taken. It’s only been 3 days so it looks like preorders are filling up pretty quickly and I’d recommend placing yours ASAP. An employee also confirmed the $40 price and said that the receipt needs to be presented when picking the set up.

Awesome, thanks so much! I was afraid it would be an extra charge and even more afraid that I’d be totally willing to pay it with no questions asked.

Is the $40 extra just for preordering? So when you get the set you still pay $400 in addition to the previous $40 and not $360?

Large sets are pretty hit or miss with the figures. Only big Creator Expert and Star Wars playsets come with a decent amount of figures (although there are exceptions like Ninjago City, Firehouse Headquarters, and The Joker Manor). Most other $200+ sets come with some figures but not a lot. Since this Hogwarts isn’t a playset like the Death Star and is more akin to a UCS set or something like the Helicarrier I understand why it only includes 4 minifigures and don’t really think it needed any more.

Exactly. I’ve seen a few people on Brickset say that they’ll skip the regular sets in favor of getting this one, since it works better as a display piece. Also, the minifigure selection for this set is perfect. The founders are the ideal choice for minifigures and they look amazing in front of their school. I’m very happy that so many nanofigures were included (I never expected 5 dementors!) because they really help the castle feel populated and I would not have been happy with getting 12 like the Helicarrier.

I’m hoping we’ll get them as actual pieces if we ever get a wave of sets based on the last two movies. I love the prints, though, especially the diadem. Ravenclaw is definitely my favorite founder minifigure and maybe one of my favorites from this entire new HP line.

So they’re useless because they’re adhering to the street date and not releasing sets a week early? Okay then. My Target had the Harry polybag but most of the July 1st sets are gone. I found one BrickHeadz set and a couple Whomping Willows but other than that they don’t have anything. Oh, okay. I’m assuming it’s there. I got an email from Lego about the announcement and it includes a great picture of all 32 nanofigures together, including a plain gold one which must be the architect statue.

I haven’t mentioned this, but I’m overjoyed to see how the minifigures are brand new in almost every way. All of them have amazing torso and leg detail and it looks like they’ve all got new exclusive face prints (I especially like Rowena Ravenclaw’s). Gryffindor’s hair looks like a new color for that piece and the only thing I don’t love on the figures is Salazar’s beard (I just think it looks a bit odd) and that the sword and cup aren’t special. I’m very happy that they went all out on these figures because the last microscale D2C (the Helicarrier) had three exclusive figures that reused lots of old pieces and could’ve been more detailed.

Oh, I thought the two towers at the end of this set were those bell towers, but I guess the bell towers are a lot more square and they seem to be taller. It would be cool to get a second D2C with the right half of the castle but that might be a bit excessive.

I don’t know if an extension is possible. They basically cut out the middle third of the castle and it doesn’t look like the sections separate easily.

Thanks, it probably is there. I just noticed the Chamber of Secrets message as well, that’s a great touch. Where, though? Underneath the library and common room is the Room of Requirement, and it’s a long way away from the other Sorcerer’s Stone challenges.

At the base of the big tower, there’s the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets. However, the Chamber itself is underneath the Great Hall. Maybe it’s behind the entrance? They also mentioned a statue of the “Architect of Hogwarts”, but I can’t see it anywhere.

If anyone needs size estimates, the Great Hall is about 15” tall and connected to the Whomping Willow set the whole castle is about 24” long (although there are weird angles at play with the connection).

I think it’s well worth the price. It’s still enormous and I remember the price per part ration of the last micro scale D2C set, which wasn’t very good. I love pretty much everything about this set but I wish we had gotten Quirrell and Hagrid, and maybe Sirius as well. Other than that, the biggest characters are pretty well represented. I’m usually fine with stickers and only get annoyed with giant sticker sheets (Ninjago City) but I feel like this set relies on stickers too much for interior detailing. I like what they add to the set but there just seems to be an awful lot of stickers in there.

It’s a little weird that we get Hagrid’s hut but no Hagrid. Also, the US price is apparently $400 which is great for a set of this size!

I’m 99% sure it’ll be tan like the regular sets, since I don’t see the point of having the same castle with two different color schemes, but you never know. I think that dark tan and dark gray is just too dark and dreary but the regular tan and dark gray work very well together.

It looks more greenish than gray, the regular sets use sand green ski poles, and the rooftop it’s on top of looks dark gray to me.

I totally agree. I wasn’t expecting a micro scale set but after my initial disappointment I’m totally fine with it. I love my micro scale Helicarrier and this way hopefully they’ve made the entire castle (although putting it on a rock base is probably expecting too much).

A sand green cone with a ski pole stuck in it (like in the regular sets) can be seen in the corner of the box. Looks like the box art shows the castle at night.
