  1. Those are not CV joints: http://en.wikipedia....Universal_joint Edit: oops, didn't see nicjasno's reply.
  2. Pretty sure there's no orange in the Arocs, it all seems to be red. Shame though, seems like orange 1 x 9 beams will remain very expensive.
  3. Yeah, I should've mentioned I'd like to see fine-grained control.
  4. Yeah, I was afraid that was the only feasible solution. Indeed not very cost efficient, and not very compact either. Looks pretty cool Alasdair, did you put it on Rebrickable?
  5. Absolutely no way the boom can be lifted using pneumatics.
  6. This is a good set, I was also pleasantly surprised when it built it a couple of years ago Pretty cheap to BrickLink, except for some of the tan bricks, and the dark red wheel covers.
  7. I guess I'm the only one who thinks the plane looks boring and too 'simplistic'. I guess I'm not a fan of Lego using big panels (and introducing new ones) everywhere to create shapes. Am I getting old?
  8. How reliably does it function? It seems it's very hard to do with the current pneumatic parts available. I wonder if things will be improved with the '2.0' system.
  9. You know, I'm still waiting on the first proper MOC that manages to succesfully incorporate remote-controlled pneumatics
  10. BrickLink is very inaccurate when it comes to mold differences as well, unfortunately. BL's main problem is that they cannot easily update the catalogue since so many sellers depend on it for their shop inventories.
  11. As for an example of different Design IDs being used for the same mold, consider 3960 again. TLG have used Design IDs 3960, 30065 and 56641 for this part. 3960 is for the 'regular' (ABS) version, 30065 for the transparent (different kind of plastic) version, and 56641 for the metallic silver version. Also, when it comes to Element IDs you shouldn't trust BrickLink, they often map them to incorrect colours
  12. Where did you get that? I think that's nonsense. The mold and print combination is identified by the Design ID, not by the Element ID. The Element ID is a (usually) unique number for the combination of a Design ID and a colour. The Decoration ID (not an official name), which sometimes can be derived from the 'official' description of the part, identifies the print, if present. The base mold is not identified by the Design ID or Element ID at all, if the part is printed. Sometimes when a mold is slightly updated (or the mold is worn out and replaced, I guess), a new Element ID can be issued for an existing Design ID and colour combination. The Design ID might also be updated then. As an example, consider this part: Here's its associated Element ID information: Element ID 6101927 Design ID 19748 Description ROUND PLATE Ø32X6.4 "NO.17" Color Description SAND YELLOW In this case, the Element ID is 6101927, the Design ID is 19748, the base mold's (3960) Design ID is 3960, and the 'Decoration ID' is 17.
  13. You'd be a fool to buy pneumatic tubing from LEGO
  14. When checking the parts inventory of a MOC on Rebrickable, pay close attention to parts that are listed as 'rare color'. These are often expensive. Though, keep in mind, that if a part is used in VERY popular MOCs, it may turn out to be rare (and therefore often expensive) even though it appears in quite a few sets (and hence does not have the 'rare color' tag). The #3 connector in red is a good example of this.
  15. Some people (like Blakbird) seem to keep all their models assembled. I on the other hand enjoy building, but not really looking at the models, so I always tear them down shortly after I've built them. Also means you can make do with a lot less parts
  16. I think mocplans could take some ideas from sellfy, in particular when it comes to generating user-specific PDFs.
  17. Someone has been playing around with jQuery Looks nice and useful, thanks!
  18. 75c08 in green is currently not for sale on BrickLink, I suggest buying 75c09 instead, and cutting it to length with a sharp knife.
  19. Some of the orange and green parts are very rare (and therefore expensive) indeed. I bit the bullet anyway, because I love the 'BAM' livery Building it in, say, white/blue or black/red would probably be a lot cheaper.
  20. Up on Rebrickable now: http://rebrickable.com/mocs/han/dragline-crawler-crane Enjoy the build!
  21. Because they're screengrabs from low quality videos.
  22. Nevermind, DBG rather than black, which already occurs in several sets
