  1. Still not done but really close. The only parts left are working out some odds with the wings, getting a good attachment mechanism for the bands, and figuring out what to do with the landing gear and laser cannon tips.
  2. I like how the head and gun placement are on the 2nd version. That was a really ingenious use of the clip plates to give it those hard angles up front. Looks great!
  3. Thanks for the comments everybody! New update for today. Tinkered around bit and the wings work. WHOOOP WHOOOOOOP! Slapped some blocks in for proportion of the new x wing canopy and added a functioning lower hatch like in the movies. I will be definitely trying it with the bands. Ironically attempted at trying out how lego attached the wings on Poe's model and it made the hexagonal shape a lot more define. Now I only need to work on the bottom, the cannons, the gearbox, and the fine tuning. It won't allow me to attach certain parts I know I can in real life so we may have to wait until I can get parts to see it in the flesh. I took your advice about the engine nacelle placement and worked on a solution that the build would support. Also, the cannons are simply placeholders for the moment...
  4. I'm just using whatever colors are on the palette. I wish all the parts were available in the colors they offer, but I have no idea. However, I think I may have made a breakthrough with the fuselage... I'm going to have to revamp some stuff but what do you guys think of this? "][/url]
  5. Done and done! Thanks for the suggestion. I was wondering how you guys got the renders to look like individual pieces. Here are some corrected pictures: Don't mind the dismembered pilot. The droid has some explaining to do... Here are some shots of the cockpit and correctly facing droid socket.
  6. Very nice representation of the TIE. World better than lego's model from '12. The only thing I would say to add are the cannons up front. If you are going for accuracy than I can understand why they aren't there as at this scale I doubt there is a way to work it in the model with pieces. However, I like how lego used the new missile pieces to make them on the Force awakens tie. The set they made was a special forces fie fighter but I guess there are regular first order ties as well. You should try that model. I think the only thing you'd have to do is reverse the colors. Black body/ structure and grey wing panels.
  7. No problem sir! Your design was a big help to me and I couldn't have got this far with out your work! I really appreciate your compliments and encouraging words. It means a lot to me that you posted a reply.
  8. Here's more pictures as promised! You might notice the difference between the left and right cheeks of the fuselage in the the last set of photos. I was working with two different ideas. I also tried ArmstrongYong's idea and I like it more IMHO. It looks more sleek and better proportioned than with the lower curves. The black tile in the next pic is just a black grill piece I am using in place of the grey starwars 1 x 2 tile with the buttons on it. The model is built to take the canopy from poe's x wing set and all I need to do is some minor adjustments and then finish working with the wings. LDD is fighting me though as it is saying that my connections aren't technically legal. Well, they worked for me when I built them with actual bricks at the beginning of this thread so I'll see if I can get around it. Comments and criticisms welcome!
  9. Thanks for the plans and comments Scottishdave. Same goes for LiLmeFromDaFuture! I really appreciate all the support here especially from some amazing MOCers like yourselves. I got LDD so when I've had free time at the University I build hehe. After seeing ArmstrongYong's outstanding rendition of the T70, I decided to download his LDD file and start from there. I'm reusing some of his designs which I think he'll be okay with since I am crediting him and I'm pretty happy with what I got done so far. I've got a couple different versions I'm working with at the moment and let me know what you think of the design. More pics to come later. I'm hungry and the caf closes in an hour. If anyone asks about this I've been studying...
  10. The recoil on that gun may be a little much for the legs to stand hehe. The few parts added do improve the design though!
  11. Absolutely incredible to read Ole! Not very often do we get a behind the scenes look at how things came to be. Thanks for sharing Tazakk!
  12. I agree with this wholeheartedly. It's interesting to hear that the UCS X wing cockpit had a similar problem.
  13. Alrighty then. That is a good reason for them to be withholding production then. They shouldn't be canceling backorders though. That's just bad business. Wait if the canopy molds are faulty then how are we going to be able to tell when the piece becomes available on bricklink?! Oh boy...
  14. Well this is more frequent than I expected. I honestly do not understand how they cannot meet expectations. They've done starwars movie-merch tie in releases before and they bumped it all the way to September this time. They knew it was coming and they are well aware of us starwars freaks out there . I mean, are they intending to get collected stock during Nov - Dec. If that is the case, everyone and there mother is going to be out there grabbing product around the time the film releases and I can guarantee they will be out of stock then too. I'm not even going to get started on Force Friday because, well, seeing adults running past children and buying out product in bulk to scalp on the internet was the most hilarious and stupid thing I've witnessed in awhile. I'm not into the idea of Black Friday type events much and seeing people become animalistic over toys is disturbing. On a positive note, I'm happy to hear they are still validating the Yularen promotional figure for those that bought and then had their orders cancelled. The fact they can cancel your order is complete poppycock. I mean really? Like they can't keep an ongoing record? Is something going on with Lego that anyone can confirm? This is intriguing to me that the Force Awakens sets are having this issue. I'd expect this from older or soon to be retired sets. I ordered the UCS X Wing in Feb from US shop at home and I've called 4 times since then only to hear that I'm on a waiting list and they're producing more. They're telling me I'll get one but I don't know at this point. I understand that Lego has a lot more publicity and a larger customer base since when I got interested in the 90s but this is a little strange to me. Are they having issues at the manufacturing plants because they've had issues with establishing equilibrium between their demand and supply for the last couple of years. I notice more stuff backordered and out of stock until stock replacement than I ever remember.
  15. I've been trying to figure out the same thing. Just2Good always brings meat to the table when it comes to news. I don't doubt it although I'm a little shocked they would rerelease the Deathstar as soon as they retire the previous iteration. I don't know of any other set that's done that. By different do you mean ascetically or mifigure updates?
  16. Interesting. You'd think they'd anticipate the demand for this stuff considering they were forced to set aside a release date for it and adequately supply themselves with enough product. I would understand a retail store having issues with stocking them, but the fact that the company that produces the product is behind on their supply is unusual. A good indicator of a successful product nonetheless!
  17. EXCELLENT MOD I may reconsider picking this up so I can do this...
  18. Wait... I do not see stickers for the canopy on the sticker sheet. Is it printed?!?!
  19. What?! Let me look at the teaser again. Wait a minute...
  20. Sorry for the collage of colors! Random parts, what are you going to do? There are gaps in the bricks and such but it's still a WIP. I thought the engines used on every system scaled X wing looked a little undersized. Ironically the recent UCS set's engines were undersized, but looked more in proportion to minifig scale. After a lot of tweaking I came up with this. I still need to work on the wing connecting mechanism as it's one stud lower than 9493. Therefore I'll have to compensate in the fuselage. It's even got the space on the underside for the tiles to go as well. I'm going to try using the newer inverted tile piece in place of the domed ones. The engine exhausts are placeholders for the moment. The front of the engines are taken directly from the UCS. It may not look stable but I can assure you it really is! I've been swinging it around by where the lazer should sit at the wingtip and it wouldn't break. I'm happy with it. Comments and criticism are welcomed and appreciated! More pics coming your way
  21. Okay, I've been working on the wings--or rather wing--for three days now and think I've come up with something you guys might enjoy. It's not done yet, but as far as design goes it's done. There just needs to be some obvious parts added, but I like how it came out. Only issue is that I have no idea how to get pics on here. I take that back, I do, but I can't attach any more images because I have exceeded my allowed disk space for attachments. I'll probably just link to pics from photobucket if that's alright. Images and description incoming...
  22. It looks like he may have arm printing near the wrists too!
  23. Can we at least talk about Echo base? The lego mini movie deal it appeared in showed some interesting things about it...
