I'm really enjoying this story, and the build compliments it nicely. The wall texturing is particularly nice and I do like the minifig combinations. Looking forward to the continuation!

Settlement, Port Woodhouse, Garma's Key, Corrington
Ayrlego replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Updated with a new map to clarify a slight miscalculation in the island's location by the map makers. Also now with a new (and significantly redcoat-ish) name to reflect the new locations ability to be developed into a major naval port.- 29 replies

When I saw it I assumed it was an attempt to automate some of the potential property bonuses. I was excited that the bonus system was getting some love, now you tell me it might be an error! I figured when I licensed my art and culture property and saw it that if you weren't attempting to 'unlock' a bonus, you simply checked the last box which was something like 'bonus N/A'.....

This is my take on @Bregir's excellent Department of Time concept. I really liked the idea last year when he posted it, I feel it is really appropriate for our great nation! Thus I have always been planning one for Mooreton Bay! This build is a modification of a medieval tower I built for Lands of Roawia, but in actual fact I had planned the bell tower first... Anyway I have been duel purposing alot of builds of late, but my build list has so much in it, and my building time has shrunk as I have started a new role with longer hours at work. I hope no body minds, but I figure I have to be smart if I'm to build everything I want! Anyway here is the build, with the description of the Department of Time by Bregir below. UPDATED PIC WITH NEW ROOF AS SUGGESTED IN THE COMMENTS BELOW! ORIGINAL VERSION FOR COMPARISON: Licensed as a small art and culture building in Mooreton Bay.

So just to clarify regarding this part of the build form. If we intend on licensing the build, do we still check the 'build is licensable' box? Or if we check this box, then licence the build in the property form, does that (incorrectly) count +2 for settlement size? Does that make sense?

I agree. The whole concept is huge and I'm glad I signed up at the start, as I think trying to work out how to jump in now must be very intimidating. Firstly, for now ignore the Introduction and Starting thread. Start at the thread linked below, everything you need is linked there Captain Genaro is right, starting shouldn't be too difficult, just create a primary character and backstory and go for it. Before you can do that of course, you need to pick a faction! Deciding on faction can be a difficult decision. The first couple of posts in each of the faction threads are a good starting point. No need to read further than the first page however. Given your nautical expertise, I'd guess you'd be right at home in any of the factions. In my mind the differences between them can be summarised as below: Corrington: Redcoats. (inspired mainly so far by elements of historic Great Britain) Science and the enlightenment are main focuses for Corrington, and our main income is from our strong merchant fleet. Of course a dependence on our merchants has meant a focus on a strong navy to protect them. Thus far we have preferred diplomacy over force. We have bonuses for educational buildings. (We'd of course be honoured to have you! ) Olean: Bluecoats. (inspired mainly so far by elements of historic France) Religion, the arts and culture are the main focuses for Olean. They also have developed a decent merchant fleet and a strong navy. Like Corrington, they seem to favour diplomacy over force. Although Olean and Corrington were supposed to be bitter rivals, relations have been amicable thus far. Olean has bonuses for art/culture buildings. Eslandola: Greenbacks. (inspired by elements of historic Spain/Portugal, The Netherlands and even sometimes trade republics like Venice, Milan or Lubeck.) Their politics are chaotic, at times they appear more a loose confederation of merchant barons than a civilised nation. From the outside it appears that a trio of very powerful trade companies control everything, although they bicker amongst themselves just as much as they aggressively advance their interests in the new world. Probably the most active faction (in terms of builders). They are currently in a war with one of the largest NPC nations, Mardier. A war that, despite what they tell you, they technically started Eslandola have bonuses for commercial buildings. Sea Rats: Pirates. Basically your wildcard, these men and women have rejected the 'civilised' societies and make their own way in the new world, owing allegiance to no central authority. Some try to pursue legitimate businesses, others live a life of plunder and piracy. Pretty much room here for any flavour of character you like. Sea Rats have cheaper ship licenses and bonuses for artisan buildings. Of course they are just my general impressions. Someone is sure to tell me off for equating each faction to a real life faction, but that is how I see it. Of course you don't need to be bound by any of the above! The basics of the maritime component of the economic game system can be found here: The basics for the land based component of the economic game system can be found here: Again, you don't have to participate in the EGS, or you can opt to jump in at a later date. Anyway hopefully this long post has helped and not confused matters further! I think if you can choose a faction, the best thing would just be to create a charactor and work it out as you go. We'll all help out when it comes to licensing your first ship/property! And there are plenty of tycoons around to loan/donate some doubloons to get you started!

Settlement: Fuerte Unido, Isla de Victoria, Eslandola
Ayrlego replied to Legostone's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Greetings valiant Eslandolans. The glorious forces of Corrington that were temporary visiting your settlement have now left the isle after unsuccessful attempts to mediate between your great faction and the old empire of Mardier. They have left behind some temporary fortifications that may be absorbed into your settlement if you so desire. (ie you can use the following builds as additional non-licensed builds to boost your settlements trade value if you want ) March of the Grenadiers and New Orders- 34 replies

I love the quay and gate, everything just works really well. The style of the gate is particularly interesting to me. The yacht however steals the show. She is magnificent! That hull!! You should definitely license her for survey work around the East Prio Sea, maybe in the name of the new settlement of Fort Royal?

Name: Port Woodhouse Ownership: The Crown of Corrington Location: Garma's Key, in the Garma Strait, East Prio Sea Map: Mayor: Trade Value: See account summary Town Bank: See account summary Town Income per turn/Town Expenses per turn: 146DB/100DB Who can own property in Port Woodhouse: Anyone Who can freebuild in Port Woodhouse: Anyone Description: Port Woodhouse is a settlement located on the small but strategically important island of Garma's Key. Garma's Key is a small low laying island located astride the Garma Strait that separates the Islands of Celestia and Cascadia. The sea directly around the key is shallow and hosts coral reefs, but the south eastern coast is deep enough to harbour larger ships. It is on the south western coast where the settlement has been established. This strategic position guards the entrance to Safety Bay, a large deep water bay in which an entire fleet could easily shelter. The settlement itself sits on the most southern point of Garma's Key and the adjacent small tear-dropped shaped island just to the south has been earmarked for the sight of giant fortifications to guard the entry to Safety Bay. A naval base is also being established to protect Corlander commerce in the region. The settlement's purpose as a naval and military outpost, together with its unsuitability for cash-crop agriculture, have resulted in it being dwarfed in size by neighbouring commercial settlements such as Jameston and Mesabi Landing. Despite this, Port Woodhouse looks to be growing into the administrative capital and the seat of Corlander Colonial government in the Paradise Islands. The crabs that are abundant on the island are prized for the taste of their meat, and the island has quickly become known for the quantity of it's seafood. Properties licensed to exploit this have been observed to make a slightly larger profit than other similar properties. Name: Jameston Ownership: The Crown of Corrington Location: Celestia, East Prio Sea Map: Mayor: Trade Value: see accounts spreedsheet Town Bank: see accounts spreedsheet Town Income per turn/Town Expenses per turn: 230DB/150DB Who can own property in Jameston: Anyone Who can freebuild in Jameston: Anyone Description: Corrington's jewel of the Prio Seas, Jameston is a melting pot of cultures and powerhouse of commerce. Established on the 15th January 617, the first Corlanders landed in a large sheltered bay located on the western shores of Celestia. Rich with natural resources, Jameston was the first Corlander settlement in the Prio Sea, named after Queen Annetta's Grandfather, King James IV of Corrington. Located on the southern shore of Vanilla Bay, Jameston swiftly became one of the quickest growing settlements in the Empire and developed it's own unique style. Early buildings tended to have sturdy lower floors built out of locally produced stone, while colourful timber framed upper stories add a rainbow of colours not normally associated with Corrish settlements. As the settlement developed, the trend has been for more brick buildings rendered in citrus colours of greens, yellows and oranges. The small Alfred River empties into Vanilla bay at the site of the settlement, and upstream large tracts of fertile land have been cleared for sugar cane plantations. Jameston is one of the leading producers of sugar in the new world, and is the site of a Royal Sugar plantation. To the east of the settlement, think verdant jungle covers the land and here vanilla plants can be found growing naturally throughout the jungles. Corrish settlers were quick to exploit this valuable spice, the second most expensive spice known to man second only to saffron. Businesses taking advantage of the islands abundant vanilla plants are known to give investors a bonus in profits. Celestia holds perhaps the largest diversity of orchids yet seen in the world and the jungles are splashed with their bright and vibrant colours. Towards the end of 617, a rush of settlers flocked to Jameston in search of the rumoured 'Superb Orchid'. Hundreds of new species of flora and fauna were discovered and several species in particular have been labelled as the 'Superb Orchid'. It was during these expeditions that several sites were found with ruins of a long forgotten civilisation, thought to be related to the Myzec on the neighbouring island of Cascadia. A hub for the East Terran Trading Company (ETTC), Jameston hosts the majority of company military forces. ETTC troops mainly consist of mercenaries hired from the southern Nizami satrapies of the Molokoi Empire. These men are mostly drawn from the Nizam ethnic group and sign into the ETTC military for 15 years with the promise of immediate Corlander citizenship and a parcel of land in the colonies on retirement. In addition they are allowed to bring up to 5 family members with them to the new world. As such, Jameston hosts a large ethnic Nizami group who tend to live together in the south eastern section of the settlement which has become known as the Nizami Quarter. ETTC forces are mainly comprised of infantry; known as sepoys, but a small unit of lancers also compliments the force. Settlement: Arlinsport, Tiberia, Corrington
Ayrlego replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Updated! Thanks Silentwolf. All, we still need x2 factories to automatically upgrade to the next level. Any ideas? -
Oh well, salt is still quite important, if not that valuable! The prospecting build is very well done. I really like it! You could probably easily expand this build to be the mine itself?
-
So how would this work, as in - how do you determine if a settlement has a warship to guard it? Does the vessel have to be active in the zone of the settlement (and only that zone) for the relevant MRCA? Is there a mission type you would select? For example Mooreton Bay currently has two small forts and a company of troops. If I wanted to add a dedicated guard ship, what would I need to do?

After his brief stop in Stormhaven, Major Dirk Allcock and his expedition have continued to their destination in the East Prio Sea. Here they have began to explore the islands that have been claimed by Corrington, namely Celestia, Cascadia and Garma's Key. He has slowly, yet methodically, made his away along the coast line, and has made a series of preliminary charts. Soon he will have compiled a preliminary map of Queen Annetta's latest possessions, complete with recommendations for future settlements. His main focus has been on Celestia. A much larger island than any claimed by Corrington so far, it is covered with verdant and thick jungle, much thicker and wetter than the colonies in the Sea of Thieves area. Large mountain ranges are visible in the interior. For now he has identified the site he believes is the most suitable for Corrington's first settlement in the Prio Seas. On the Western side of the Island, a large spit of land forms a huge natural harbour that he has dubbed Vanilla Lagoon after the abundance of the valuable epiphyte growing amongst the trees of the jungle on the leeward side of the bay. On the Southern side of the bay, opposite the promitory formed by the southernmost point of the spit, the jungle thins on a flat plain. It is here Dirk plans on establishing Jameston, named for Queen Annetta's Grandfather, King James IV of Corrington. Here he can be seen making landing on one of the beaches to the east of the settlement site. --- I've been planning this one since October but it just never seemed to come together. Several large BrickLink orders of 1x2 trans-blue tiles later and the motivation of the need for the scene for both the RPGs that I participate in, and here it is (finally). Jameston will be established shortly, and Major Allcock will be planning a mini-challenge to explore into the interior hopefully soon. The boat design is from Lego Monster's US Navy whaler on flickr, although the seating is quite fragile, the hull holds together well!

Thanks all for the comments! Ahh, I knew I'd seen the axe head used as a plough somewhere, but couldn't find it again for reference/credit.... Probably because I was looking on flickr... Sorry! It's from BrickForge, they do them in several colours I think the bulkiness of their cows suits a plough driving beast well! Hmmm, I actually hadn't thought of this, I assumed (possibly incorrectly) that they would use gravity to channel the water down from a higher dam, but now you've mentioned it I'm not sure that's right....- 9 replies
