  1. @Takanuinuva As I said to Jody, the purpose of this thread is not to answer questions about Studio here. It’s to announce there’s now someone (that would be me) to help link users and devs. So come to the Studio forum to ask your questions and we’ll try to help you make Studio work or file a bug report with the devs.
  2. Yep, 4.3.11 / 777 is what the 4.3.12 says once installed. Downloading the 4.3.11 shouldn’t be a problem, it’s the installation that may fail, so you can try to install first, or you can decide to do the workarounds anyway (Flash isn’t needed at all, it seems to be here just to cause problems ).
  3. @Fool If your new installation keeps saying it can’t connect to Internet and is missing parts that were in older installation, it’s because you installed the crappy 4.3.12. Check your LDD version (Help | About), if the brick version isn’t 2670, you’ve the wrong version of LDD. In that case, don’t download it (again) from LEGO, they are advertising a 4.3.12 that’s actually a crippled 4.3.11 with very old bricks and that can’t update its bricks. See this topic there’s a link to a correct copy of 4.3.11 installer and several explanations on how to install it on Windows 10 if you have troubles. (4.3.12 seems to be an attempt to correct those installation problems but LEGO totally botched the job.)

  5. It’s explained in this post: (Unfortunately, that post gets buried and is now on page 3….)
  6. Hmm, you seem to have misunderstood me: I’m not saying “Ask your questions about Studio and PartDesigner here and I will answer them here.” I’m saying “I’m here (or rather there) to help you talk to the devs.” Anyway, short answers: you need PartDesigner and you need a 3D model (preferably LDraw), or you can ask for the part to be added and a decal to be made (takes longer). If you want further details, please post of the Studio forum (in the Studio Parts subforum).
  7. €34.11 ÷ 1.16 × 1.19 = €34.99 In words: if Germany hadn’t temporarily lowered its VAT from 19% to 16%, the price would have been €34.99 there. €34.99 is the price in most of EU (non-EUR countries excluded).
  8. And LDD can’t connect to the internet? If the version is 4.3.11 but the brick version isn’t 2670, then you’ve installed the infamous 4.3.12, which is not a real update, it’s a botched attempt to fix installation problems of Windows 10. See there’s a link to a correct copy of 4.3.11 installer and several explanations on how to install it on Windows 10 if you have troubles.
  9. Look in the BrickLink catalogue: each wheel/hub and tyre has a list of (resp.) tyres and wheels/hubs they fit into/around.
  10. Hey gals and guys, Some of you may already know, I’ve been promoted to Discussions Moderator on BrickLink and especially Forum Moderator of the Studio forum. One of my tasks is to help with the communication between the users and the dev team: help with the bugs reports and suggestions and forward the worthy ones. I’ve already started looking into messages that didn’t (seem to) get attention from the devs. I know there are old bugs and worthy suggestions out there. But there are things I thought were only a couple weeks ago that actually date from months ago. And it wouldn’t be effective to awaken old threads to ask for details. (Besides, there’s a couple of things (hem…) that don’t work well on the Studio forum, like notifications.) So, if you remember (have a link to) an old but persistent bug or a worthy suggestion for Studio or PartDesigner, please send me a message (PM) with a link, or come make a new post on the Studio forum (in the correct topic please). And if you like a suggestion, feel free to add a comment as a way to vote for them, or, even better, to add details or examples. I obviously can’t guarantee every bug will be solved and every suggestion implemented but I’ll forward and follow them. Thanks!
  11. You can, either: Each time you need them: Save the file you’re working on, open the resource file, select the parts, copy (Ctrl-C) them, reopen your file, paste (Ctrl-V). Each time you need them: Import the resource file (Ctrl-I). All the parts in the file are imported and “held” by the mouse. Once: Open the resource file, select the parts, open the second tab on the left “Templates,” click the coloured icon on the bottom left. And then each time you need them: open the “Templates” tab and they are there ready to use. (The templates are mode-dependent: “normal” and Extended are stored separately.)

  13. First, you can switch back and forth between Extended and “normal” with the menu entry in View | New themes. The last mode used in LDD is stored in the file when you save it so that LDD goes to the “correct” mode when you load the file. You can open LXF files as ZIP files and then open the IMAGE100.LXFML file inside, the mode is in the Brand tag. That may be a bit too technical though….
  14. You won’t find windows exactly like that. It’s LEGO, you need to be creative¹, and also a bit more tolerant, less “perfect” and more “good enough.” ¹ Look out for SNOT (Studs Not On Top) techniques.
  15. Yes, that works. You can also look at official sets’ inventories. Here’s an explanation of IDs I wrote yesterday on the BrickLink forum.
  16. Short answer: you need to browse and get acquainted with the available parts and their categories. There’s no map, there’s no shortcut. LEGO’s names aren’t consistent, and often don’t describe anything (“Animal NO. 2 - 2013” is a wolf mask for a minifigure head). Some categories (like the “sign post” (24th icon)) would answer better to names like “miscellany” or “others.” And one can’t even search for simple words like “plant”: too many results that are not plants, too many plants that are not named as such. If you want more consistency, you need to look at other catalogues, like BrickLink’s (more complete) or Rebrickable’s (which has a slightly better categorisation and references LEGO’s names). But you’ll still have to learn what kinds of part exist, and how they are named and organised in each catalogue. For instance, you need to learn that “bars” are “bars” (not flexible) or “hoses” (flexible), not “shafts,” not “poles,” not “sticks,” not “axles,” but also that “axles” are cross-sectionned Technic bars. You need to learn what a “L” or “M” is (the distance between the centres of two studs), what’s a “slope,” a “wedge” (not a shoe)… and so on and so on. You need to learn colour names, LEGO’s and BrickLink’s. You need to learn about IDs (“numbers”) to cross-reference the catalogues. And you need to learn the shortcomings of every catalogue and of every tool (and LDD has many).
  17. Menu Edit | Preferences | Show extended tooltips. Er, I’m not sure if you need developer mode for that…. Or use Extended mode (menu View | New themes | LDD Extended). It works differently for colours but has many more parts, especially as the last updates only added parts to Extended (and that was 3 years ago).
  18. If you have the real 4.3.11 and not the 4.3.12 which says “4.3.11” in Help|About, the brick version is 2670. If you don’t have 4.3.11 or if the brick version isn’t 2670, see https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/149308-lego-digital-designer-install-problem/ there’s a link to a correct copy of 4.3.11 installer and several explanations on how to install it on Windows 10 if you have troubles.
  19. Did you copy the lxfml assemblies into Assemblies? If the files are missing, LDD thinks the subparts are normal parts. (Or, rather, when parts are used in an assembly, they aren’t available as standalone.)
  20. The Cantina has yet to be released, so there are no instructions available. The Alley has just come out.
  21. Well, the LDD version number is another proof (if that was needed) LDD is still in use and updated at LEGO but that’s the “pro” version. If they never updated LDD it’s because it’s difficult to dumb down the pro version and keep both versions up to date. (And the last LDD updates weren’t up to the “only the best is good enough” motto, even without talking about 4.3.12.) I’d also note that Studio is based on Unity and that LEGO/BL is looking for an experienced Unity developer (LEGO/BL because advertised on BL, Studio’s forum, and posted on LEGO.com). So I wouldn’t expect LEGO to give us a LDD-NG anytime soon. (But I like surprises.)
  22. New version available (same place), 471 combinations added (mainly from variants existing in LDD but not recognized by BL).
  23. I used both (LDD being 32bits, I had older installations with Wine 32bits). I haven’t seen one being more problematic than the other. I also never had any problem with mixing 32bits and 64bits on Linux, even ten years ago, thank you Debian
  24. @drimtajm There are two versions of Wine: 32bits and 64bits. If you use the 32bits Wine, you should download the 32bits Studio. If you use the 64bits Wine, you can download 32bits or 64bits Studio. The only visible difference is that on a 64bits Wine, the 32bits program will be in “Program Files (x86)” instead of “Program Files”. And yes, “Chromebook” has a pretty wide meaning so “Will it run on the Chromebook I haven’t bought yet?” is a pretty hard question to answer (beyond “it depends” that is ).
  25. Here I added a replacement for the file LDD.paxml, the parts palette for LDD “standard” mode. How do I use it? Next to db.lif, there’s a Palettes directory. Inside is a LDD.lif file. Extract that lif. Rename the lif. Replace the file LDD.paxml in the new “LDD” directory with the new version. (Re)start LDD. Enjoy! I added around 1100 entries following the list of ElementIDs/PCCs BrickLink knows about (downloadable as codes.xml). Some may be faulty: identification error between LDD and BL ids or missing decors/sub-colouring. I also included the pre-coloured new parts Stephan included in his “2020NewPreColoredParts” palette. I didn’t change any of the existing combinations. We all know there are faulty ones but I don’t have an exact, machine-readable list. (Hint, hint.) There’s still around 620 parts available in Extended that I have no colouring information for LDD and that are therefore still not directly available in “normal” mode. (Hint, hint.)
