Custom LDD bricks and fixes
SylvainLS replied to Equilibrium's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
20482 is an official part. The file in the pack only modifies it (collisions?). That you don’t see it means you have another problem and I think that problem is that you installed the infamous LDD 4.3.12, which comes with an outdated (and un-updatable) parts library (version 777 instead of version 2670). Before using the custom parts pack, you need to be sure you have LDD 4.3.11. Uninstall LDD and clean your user’s directory, then download 4.3.11 and install it (here’s a link to an archive of LEGO’s download pages: link). -

In the .rar an Github, the dog is version 2021-07-14, it was 2021-08-31 earlier today. 07-14 is rotated wrt the original/official LDD part. Image on 50044 applies on the wrong surface? -

No, it’s okay, I have simple scaffold/replacement: I use a half pin, the bar fits in its hollow stud and the positions are the same as they would be if it was a full pin, with the bar fully in. Otherwise I will always use the wrong part -

On Mac: You should update. On Windows: You should desinstall 4.3.12, be sure to clean the files in your user’s directory (especially, delete the db.lif file but maybe others), then download 4.3.11 and install it (here’s a link to an archive of LEGO’s download pages: https://web.archive.org/web/20190622153357/https://lc-www-live-s.legocdn.com/downloads/ldd2.0/installer/setupLDD-PC-4_3_11.exe ). -

27925 is official LDD. If you’re on Windows, check you have LDD 4.3.11 (Help | About, version 4.3.11 and brick version 2670) and not LDD 4.3.12 (also shows as 4.3.11 but with brick version 777). -

Custom LDD bricks and fixes
SylvainLS replied to Equilibrium's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
With LIF-Creator.py (there’s a thread somewhere…). But it’s not necessary. You just need to extract the .lif (LDDExtended.lif and/or LDD.lif) and replace the files there with the ones provided by Stephan. And move the .lif in another directory for safe-keeping and to prevent LDD to read them. -
Custom LDD bricks and fixes
SylvainLS replied to Equilibrium's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Eureka! Full story: the problem was that the Palettes/LDDExtended directory wasn’t effective on my system, and on another computer, re-creating the LIF worked. And note that I’m using Wine. One thing to know with Wine is the local settings directories aren’t exactly what they are in (the different versions) of Windows (for instance, some things that should be under AppData are in Local Settings/Application Data, Local Settings isn’t a symlink as it’s on Win10). So I thought: LDD can’t find the files, it must be looking in the wrong place. So I traced LDD’s file operations… and that #@! reads (actually reads!) all the files in the Palettes directory. So it reads the directory with the new colours… then the old LDDExtended.lif, even if it was renamed and, apparently, the name of the .lif is not important (not even the extension), only the content is. So the last one read decides what you see. TL;DR: be sure to move your old LDDExtended.lif (whatever name you changed it to) elsewhere. LDD reads everything, whatever their name and extension. -

Custom LDD bricks and fixes
SylvainLS replied to Equilibrium's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
No, the LDDextended palette, which is either a “LDDextended” subfolder or an “LDDextended.lif” file into the “Palettes” folder. To add the colours to the Extended mode’s colour palette, you need to edit/replace the MaterialSelector.xml file that’s in it. On one Wine install, I needed to recreate the .lif with LIF-Creator because LDD [wc]ouldn’t read the folder, and on another, nothing works and the colours are not in the palette. One of the little quirks of Wine I guess -

SylvainLS replied to Equilibrium's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
FWIW, I’m using Wine and, on one computer, the new colours won’t appear in the palette if the palette is not in .lif form (i.e., folder = no, extended.lif = yes), and on another, they won’t appear at all… but they are still useable by copying (pipette) them from another file. -

Seconded, but maybe “New Parts for LDD” to avoid another confusion: Is “LDD” the whole LDD application? The whole LDD folder of the user? No, it’s bits that go into the user\…\LDD folder. -

SylvainLS replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
That’s not how new parts are added to Studio. First, the Studio team doesn’t model parts, they add collision and connectivity info to parts in the LDraw format. And the official sources for those parts are, in order of preference: The LDraw Official Library. LDraw Unofficial parts. Models from TLG (still in LDraw format) (just a few are in Studio). Studio knows other parts. A lot of them are raw conversions from LDD to LDraw, but they generaly miss connectivity info (they are mainly there to allow importing LDD models). There’s also decorated parts that are not in LDraw but use the base LDraw model with a texture map. You may want to read this thread on the Studio forum that talks about the Parts repository which is the semi-official way to submit parts to Studio. -

SylvainLS replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
FWIW, as of the last official update of the new LDD parts, there’s 85 parts for which there’s no LDraw models (at least that I could find). (Out of ca. 627 custom parts.)
