^Heh, yeah. Grinder's is the mask of grinding, Slicer's is the mask of slicing, Basher's is the mask of bashing, Warrior's is the mask of warring, and Scorpio's is the mask of being a crap set. I really hope in year two mask-specific powers come back.

You know what else doesn't have biological justification? Most of what Matoran, Toa, etc. could do. Greg didn't always know what he was doing. Afterall this is the same guy who basically said all males are confrontational hotheads and all women are calm peacekeepers. AND that females only exist as "not males." Dude was losin' it by the time Bionicle conked out.

Maybe Slicer's a rouge element, or the others were reanimated by Makuta first, and Slicer was reanimated afterwards. You raise a very good point regardless.

[MOC] Lord of Skull Spiders
One Very Agile Cat replied to One Very Agile Cat's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Well the first version (with the Chima raven chest, HF feet and silver mask) was only ever a proof of concept. It was never finished until now. As for the head: because I don't have an extra one. :( I figured I'll wait until the summer wave is out and goes on sale and just grab an extra whoever for their head and trans-eye pieces. Until then, Brain attack heads with a connector on top work just as well. -
Like many I was dissatisfied with the LOSS. It was small, underarticulated, and looked pretty goofy and unfinished. Credit where credit's due though, it was an interesting build and an actual attempt at 2001-style geared Rahi-type enemies. However I wasn't even a fan of the whole giant-spider thing to begin with. Bionicle has had a bit of an odd history with insects and arachnids, and I got my fill of giant not-enough-legs-to-be-a-spider-spiders with the Visorak. So I tried something a tad different. (pardon the not-so-great pics, this thing barely even fits in my lightbox, and the last two were on my workbench) And yes, I count the arms towards the eight limbs. :p Gali for a sense of size: This pics may look awful, but they at least show the full MOC in the light: My backstory for it is that the Lord of Skull Spiders wha originally a villager exiled for terrible crimes and banished to the wilderness. After roaming the land he came in proximity of Makuta's resting place and was approached by him in a dream. Makuta offered the villager the golden Skull mask, armour and power to take revenge on the village if he would serve Makuta and aid in commanding the legions of Skull Spiders to destroy the Toa and Protectors and find the mask of Creation. He accepted, and was transformed into this. Thanks for looking. :3 Comments and crits always welcome.

Bionicle Toa Alternate Builds
One Very Agile Cat replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
What's lanky about them, exactly? (I have since redesigned them to have a more even shape, especially the thighs) EDIT: Perhaps this is better? (at least more even) -
Yeah, I like the idea of Makuta being saved for later. Took three years in Gen1 for him to get a set, afterall, and that story moved way faster. I would certainly like if he'd amass a legion of subordinates.

They're not oversized for the Glatorian, though. The whole bit of using those socket connectors as hands looked weirder and weirder as the sets got bigger.
-
Bionicle's Toa and other larger humanoids always seemed to have the same proportions as, like, the Gorillaz and certain anime styles. I always assumed it was deliberate as well.

Interesting how Basher's description mentions a trigger, not a gear. Maybe instead of waving his arms opposite ways, he's engineered to slam both forward at once? I also think supplementing one of Slicer's swords kinda throws off his whole deal, but since Grinder has his staff plus an extra sword I'll just give it to Slicer so he can have four. (if I even decide to keep Slicer four-armed)

I gotta say, maybe it's just because I never leave models stock, but I'm not as averse to these sets as I was. I mean, the lack of unique masks is a shame, but whatever. It is what it is and hopefully things will improve. Skull scorpion still looks damn awful, but he has a lot of very useful parts. (is that the first time we've seen those IFB spider-bone legs in black? Regardless, they're awesome) Warrior and Slicer are very plain, but shouldn't be hard to spice up. Basher and Grinder are the best and most cohesive to me. Aside from Grinder though, I'm not digging the haphazard trans orange on everyone. I don't dislike the idea of mixed trans colours, but the orange is so sporatic and minimal it feels out of place. I'm excited for them simply because they're Bionicle and CCBS, two very fun aspects of Lego for me and I know I'll have a lot of fun MOCing with them and creating my own Skull legion, but I can totally see why those not into heavy modding would not share in my anticipation.

Bionicle Toa Alternate Builds
One Very Agile Cat replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Finally got the longer torso I needed for my Onua. I really didn't like super-short super-wide Onua, so I took a page from the animations and just made him a giant. Pretty much all I want to change now is maybe add gold armour to the lower legs when/if I get another Toa for spare parts. -
[MOC] Makuta of Metru Nui
One Very Agile Cat replied to One Very Agile Cat's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Thanks for all the kind comments. :D Oh I know what you mean by the hands. They're the only thing I kept similar to Takanuva, and they're not perfect. Unfortunately I lack the parts to replace them, and even then my imagination is limited on what could be a preferable subsitute. My beloved Hydraxon-style-exo-force-robot-arm-finger-hands are too small. :'(Never noticed the legs being too long. May have been some unintended anime-super-robot influence. -
Original Bionicle vs CCBS discussion
One Very Agile Cat replied to MakutaOfWar's topic in LEGO Action Figures
They are, but I think you're severely over-blowing pistons. Not that they ever made much sense anyway. They often had pistons running parallel to clearly solid pieces on the old Bionicle pieces. -
Is it just me or is this contest, like... really lame? Like, I don't get the idea behind it. The winners don't actually resemble the real masks, and are just sort of vaguely face-shaped sometimes. How is this even judged?

This is a MOC I made years ago, circa 2012 if I recall. It's been tweaked and improved bit-by-by ever since. I've posted it on another non-Lego forum but I'd like to share and "archive" it somewhere Lego-related. :3 What started as a simple revamp of the 2003 titan quickly became much, much more. First it was a revamp, then it was a "toa-sized" Inika clone, which grew to a similarly-built shadow counterpart to 2008 Takanuva, and eventually this unique build which is not only bigger than Takanuva, but its so large it barely fits in my lightbox when crouched. (the second pic is actually just the torso, no legs so I could get a close-up on the detail) In fatc the only parts is really share with Takanuva are the hands kinda. It also has a staff that won't fit in either, but it's basically his old staff with Brutaka swords replacing the Takanuva staff blades, and said blades relocated to the bottom and the actual staff part covered with gunmetal tubes so it's not a twig in his hands. I wish I could amke stuff like this all the time, but this sucker also ate pretty much all my parts. (I am pondering a Sidorak revamp in this style, however, despite not owning the set. Much smaller of course :p) Thanks for looking!

Original Bionicle vs CCBS discussion
One Very Agile Cat replied to MakutaOfWar's topic in LEGO Action Figures
But this isn't "OG Bionicle vs. CCBS for exclusive use as Bionicle and nothing else." What if you want to build something not Bionicle without the bionicle aesthetic? And pistons aren't really just for Bionicle, because the limbs with pistons existed before it. That was just a technic thing. In fact I'd say CCBS works better as Bionicle than most else, since the exposed bones and armour that doesn't cover 100% evokes Bionicle's general aesthetic of, well, thin bones with armour/limbs with exposed holes and gaps. It's simpler, obviously, but it's not quite as far removed as it seems. (and I agree with Voxovan, masks made Bionicle Bionicle, in addition to elemental powers/motifs) -
Bionicle Toa Alternate Builds
One Very Agile Cat replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I just tried this version with my Tahu (who's not been modified in the torso so he still has the broad shoulders) and yeah, works great! I never minded the pads moving, but I might leave it like this. I assume a similar trick could be used for Gali, but I mind it even less on her because it means the pads move out of the way of the arms. But for Tahu, I just held the black parts that hold the swords with one black pin each, and the Glatorian neck was attached with a blue pin/axle with the beige axle for the shoudler holding everything in place, but it'd be even more solid if I had two of those grey double pin/axle peices Lewa has, then it'd be like a rock. The only downside is now the shoulder armour lifts out to the sides when you swing the arms, (and he looks a bit flat if you look into the inner workings) but that's a small inconvenience for that bit of added visual consistency. -
Pre-revamp: Skull Grinder (MOC)
One Very Agile Cat replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Oh man, I love that ribcage effect! Super clever, and something I could see an official set doing down the line. This whole MOC is awesome. -
Bionicle Toa Alternate Builds
One Very Agile Cat replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Thanks for all the kind sentiments! I've also slightly modified my Lewa, and split the axes (which I've made into long swords) into a wing backpack, and just sort of tweaked the proportions and part placement so it's basically the same, but stuff doesn't quite crash into stuff anymore. :p I'm waiting on a part before I post my super-revamped Onua.
