  1. I came across this little gem and immediately thought of this thread
  2. Contrarily, I like reading them by chronology, which is how the earlier pages were (or appear) to be written. In the context of the 2005 page and the 8421, it was the most complex and still is in relation to its brethren. If you keep rewriting history, the detail gets lost as you're always comparing things to the newest and greatest. Dunno - it's not my work, but would like to know what Blakbird thinks of this. Either way, it's been a tremendous resource for many years and I continue to thank you for it.
  3. A wing generates lift toward the longer (or convex) side. Looking at http://www.brickshel...4.jpg_thumb.jpg, it appears to me as if the curve is mounted as for an aircraft (ie lifting off the ground) rather than a car, where you want it pushing the car into the ground. Compare this front wing to that of NKs 8674 or a real one for example: https://grabcad.com/...mclaren-mp4-9-2 For a symmetric profile it's fundamentally about the angle of incidence with the incoming wind - ie the rear wing is working properly. When you introduce camber though, and that's how it looks to me with the panel fairings (however misleading that may be) it will naturally lift the front of the car the faster you go in that configuration, which is generally something you don't want in a car, as mercedes will attest edit: trouble with images Don't get me wrong Sariel - I love the car and i'm not poking you with the observation!
  4. you probably don't want to be going much faster - the front wing is working the wrong way
  5. an interesting viewpoint. By that same logic, when I by a 70 year old house from a deceased estate, I should only be paying the 3% stamp duty on the 3,000 pounds the last owner paid for it, not the 2 million dollars it cost in todays money. The true value of an item is not what the seller paid for it but what the new buyer is willing to pay for it. That's, afterall, why we depreciate most items and appreciate others
  6. The car is really good but I think your video skills are just outstanding! Presentation and advertising are just as important as the product
  7. You might want to think about what kind of parts you want (panels/fairings, wheels, liftarms, anything special like pneumatics or motors) and what colours (if any) you want them in. If you don't have any idea, then work your way back through the high parts count sets until you get to a price you can afford. You may find buying specific sets of parts you need through bricklink cheaper overall though, since you won't be buying bits you're unlikely to use.
  8. Thanks Alex - I look forward to seeing them, along with many others I think
  9. Quite incredible - well done. As far as zblj's comment about building it for real, what holds the sails together?
  10. If I may be so bold as to ask, what's the planned difference between your instructions and the existing gigabyte file? Making some steps more clear? Reducing file size? ... I've only just built the base for this, but it's been ok so far - i'm wondering where i'm about to get stuck Cheers
  11. fabulous range of steering motions . I think kevin flynn would like more lights though
  12. I think if you're being pure, the 1x4 rack is a studded piece. All the studless racks can't be extended, so something like sheepos car lift would need a radical change in thinking to do away with the studded parts.
  13. According to the translation provided at post #17, the instructions are being purchased for each rental. That being the case, why on earth is changing colour schemes or design any different in a rental context to what anyone purchasing and not renting them will do? If you're talking about damaging brands, i've seen far more third party models of famous MOCs at general entry lego and toy shows with no crediting and various additional colours/mods etc. Where's the hate for them? As far as i'm concerned, if the designer get's his cut, then what ever colour or change you choose to do to a model is your business. I'd be pissed if Honda took me to court for respraying a vehicle I had decided to rent out! I just bought Ingmar's Mk4 trailer but I changed the plate colour from tan to stone grey lattices. If I ever show this to anyone, am I damaging his brand?
  14. when you talk about buying new or MISB sets, are you talking about current stuff, or old stuff? I'm not sure many people could afford MISB sets like a 497 or 8043 even if you could actually find one! If you also have an interest in very old stuff, you not old have to buy old sets, but restore them with old parts, since the newer colours or styles don't match.
  15. Fabulous model and great presentation. Look forward to your instructions - I think you'll find a lot of tugs in various livery running around once you do
  16. there was a great reason TLG stopped using them - and may they burn in hell for all the desctruction they caused to parts and kids teeth. For the OP, the old ones don't have slots in the middle and would often weld/lock themselves into place. I think you'd cause mass cracking issues if you used them on the new lightweight liftarms.
  17. someone please build him a tank and some boosters for an 8480
  18. fabulous use of motorcycle wheels and unusual uses of other parts like the right angle axle joiners and the portals
  19. wow - came across this thanks to the impatient thread bump. Great model TeClem8! Great combination of look and function.
  20. Wow - I can only start to guess at how many people and how much time are involved in making things of this scale! Brick wheels and pistons fer peat's sake. It's brilliant
  21. dang - why did I have to go and buy 4 sbricks yesterday!
  22. brickstock is the current supported program derived from brickstore (as far as I know anyway). The database on the old one sounds like it's missing many parts which are the errors. You'll also need to make sure everything is the same condition before you subtract, since it treats new and used parts differently.
  23. ingenious and thankyou for the teaching explanations as well
  24. I bought one of effermans double hook in metal. Very good and fits nicely with just about every 'big' crane. Looks like that one but takes two pulleys side by side. Half (edit: actually quite a bit less than half based on the one original sold on BL in the last 6 months!!) the avg BL price too, so recommended if you need a few for projects. it's pretty common - just has a very high selling price on BL. It's not actually all that hard to find cheap sets on fleabay that include one. 8286 or 8839 for example. Keep the hook, get rid of the rest. If you're willing to do a little work you can get them for effectively nothing. If you don't care about the B model, you don't even need it in the 8837! 23 sets, 116 currently available on BL. Probably better off looking for sets that contain it though.
