  1. Since it has come up again, the discontinued piece from post #58 is no longer the case. They're still expensive, but in two sets last year and one this year.
  2. all sets, or just something new? In the catalogue, the number of parts is a hyperlink to the inventory. ie for 8421-1, click on the number in "Item Consists Of 1885 Parts" to get the inv.
  3. it's surprising that for the Kelloggs one, not only is the packing and sets intact, but also a copy of the literature and cereal box as well!
  4. It's taking me a while to work around the new layout, particularly the catalogue
  5. I ended up with a decool copy of a technic racers set. The colour consistency is poor, and the pins are terrible, but if you use genuine pins with the copied structural elements, it works satisfactorily. If you started with the copy and didn't know what real stuff was like, you'd throw the whole lot at the wall and walk away thinking that the whole concept is crap, rather than just getting a poorly manufactured clone/fake. That said, it doesn't have lego branding anywhere, although it's a direct copyright contravention, all the way down to the manual.
  6. codename Rhino? excellent model mate :)
  7. Regarding the target one saying online from 17th, does anyone know if they make it active at midnight or more towards store hours? I'd rather not have to stay up late to try and put my name on a set.
  8. Another vote for an incredibly well executed machine. It's something i'd really love to build and is kind of the reverse (or upside down) version of the 8094 plotter that I still really love.
  9. there are plenty of real-life examples of floats wider than the prime mover
  10. take a look at old mates recreation of it in studless form and go from there. http://mocpages.com/image_zoom.php?mocid=270408&id=/user_images/62315/1306097361m
  11. I've made liberal use of an axle 10 and pair of sidecutters before..... If you go round gently a few times before snipping through you can get the nice rounded end of a factory part. (well, almost).
  12. the motors break but the two adapters don't. SImple to sell a replacement motor without the supports to people who want to get their shuttle working again. Even broken motors still command reasonable prices on BL (5 euro or more), if you just want something to sit and look like it's supposed to be there but is actually a small paperweight.
  13. who's the chap around here with 50 new micromotors? That might count as some kind of record.
  14. it's got two in grey according to the instructions and catalogue, but mine came in red in three independent sets.
  15. Curiously, I have six of those in red, all from set 8146 (Nitro Muscle). The first one I thought was unusual (bought second hand, so parts could have come from anywhere). But the second and later third showed up with the same pair of these in red, all three sets from different times and places. I wonder if there are local markets that use different coloured parts to others?
  16. that's impressive, as much for the heat input into the valves as anything else!
  17. 42004 from Copenhagen main shop. Souvenir that ended the dark ages. It was cheapish, small and robust enough to stick in an aircraft and cart across the world. Little did I know it'd be the cheapest thing about getting back into lego again after 2 decades away!
  18. Impressive! I've always been awed by the ability of people like you (and N Kuipers etc) who can make extraordinary things from just the parts in one set - and use practically all the parts too, not just pick a huge set and only use a small portion of it.
  19. Lovely. I reckon it looks like a stratos
  20. The same valve operation applies to the real thing as well. If you open the valves fast on a high lever arm ratio crane arm you'll make the owner of both the crane and whatever you're lifting very unhappy!
  21. Reading through your comprehensive description on mocpages I have to say i'm very impressed. It's also a great expression of talent and persistence when someone is willing to buy a model/design from you because it's a perfect match to the real thing. Congratulations.
  22. Sydney city had a "limit of 3" thing going, but the detectives office and palace cinema were walking out the door (or into layby) in groups of threes at a few minutes after doors opened. They just had two crates out with people yanking stuff out. they also had a few dozen slave 1s, and only noticed one of them moving in the first hour of opening.
  23. so, any guesses on the Bricklink opening price for cylinders once the set is released?
  24. depends on function versus accuracy in modelling a real unit. Since the electric motors can be speed controlled down to zero rpm and produce significant torque at low speed, you don't need a clutch to get an electric vehicle started. You can also shift a manual gearbox without the clutch if your control of the motor/engine is good enough or you use something like a zeroshift design which can change ratios under torque loading (http://www.zeroshift.com/).
  25. There's always a bigger fish I've just bought Ingmar's plans for the orange granite to go with this trailer combination, but I came across this recently that makes most other things looks like toys.
