Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Slegengr replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
This was precisely my reasoning in updating the map: not for land claim, but for city/village/important-natural-formation recognition. I agree that I do not like to see claimed regions, as it restricts the building somewhat. Aside from that, though, I think relative locations of the establishments is nice to know, both for placement and acknowledgement of guild members' home town/village/city. I really enjoy seeing medieval maps and think this is a nice part of GoH. If we have a guild map, should it not have the establishments marked? If we do not want to update the map, that is also fine with me. I do not want the map to detract from the builds here and certainly do not want it to be a point of conflict between guild members, should location claims be in conflict. -
How could I make a custom LEGO kama for minifigs?
Slegengr replied to Yzalirk's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I would recommend using a similar thin cloth of the right color (I do not know a specific recommendation) and using iron-on printer paper. I have not tried this yet for LEGO kamas/pauldrons/capes/sails, but I have tried it in other ways and plan to try it for LEGO purposes. The print-on layer helps in stiffening the cloth and preventing fraying, though some types become brittle over time if they are bent too much. This method makes the addition of logos or emblems fairly simple, as they are just printed onto the iron-on sheet. If it matters, make sure to print the images inverted as the ironing process reverses the image, which will correct for the inverted printing. Otherwise, images will end up backwards. If you wanted to, the cloth could be dyed before the sheet is ironed on, and possibly after, though I have never tested this. After the printed sheet is ironed onto the cloth, use an exacto knife to cut out the cloth piece. This method would probably be most economical if entire sheets are made at once to utilize the sheet more effectively and eliminate waste. -

That is what I thought, but was not sure. This should be interesting! Are there original files for the current map? I will try to update the map now that I have photo editing software. Would it make sense to create a topic for the map so people can respond to that topic with change requests, or should that just be done here? I am not sure what requests have already been made, so a place to conglomerate the requests seems good to me. If a new topic makes sense, I will start a new topic with my update and ask for requests for other changes. -

That is fine. We are still anxiously awaiting them! I would appreciate it if some questions of mine could be answered: 1. What is the significance of the prime minister? Is there a purpose other than for the fun of a vote, and, if so, what is it? 2. I would like to add Falkidalr to the map. I am curious if there is a Mitgardian mapmaker. I remember reading that we needed one. If so, I would like to try editing the map to update it and see what you all think of it. Are there original files for the current map and is there somewhere to list change requests for the map? Thanks, Stian -
Welcome to Eurobricks, Tiahorn! That is a nice outpost. I am looking forward to your future builds as well.

You have to reach the rank of "Vassal" before you can view profiles, including your own. In order to move from "New Member" to "Vassal" you merely have to create 10 posts.

I agree that a different name would be better but the concept is perfect.

Spies in Low Places: CHIII Men
Slegengr replied to Jakorin Swiftsword's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice work, Jakorin! The variations in the walls along with the woodwork make a nice looking house. I like the rafters and the chandelier, but it might look better with a roof on the rafters. Jakorin was lucky to have found the chest empty just in time . -
Welcome to Eurobricks, alex-go! I am looking forward to what you bring to this community.

They are both nice, but I definitely love the 6103 more. I had 6105 as a young child, but could only dream of having Forestmen and Black Falcons until I was older. The minifigures are better, since it includes three factions and a peasant, though the horse in 6105 is nice. I like the Dragon Masters, but I like the Black Knights better and feel like the DM are a cheap copy of the BK faction. The sigils should have been more different.

This is a great build, Lord Vladivus! The style is very fitting for Kaliphlin, with nice details like the color variations in the walls and the small tree and Joshua tree. I like the idea of Githril, as it makes an explanation for gold-colored armor and weapons. Gold is far too soft to use, and would wear away quickly if gilded over other metals. Brick on, Vladivus!

Welcome to Eurobricks, cookiesdad! I am interested in seeing your contributions to the community. It is nice to see that you have interest in Guilds of Historica, but I think you are choosing the wrong guild... the snow and mountains of Mitgardia are much nicer than Kaliphlin sand. (Jokes and promotion aside, I think Kaliphlin is the right choice for you if it is what you are interested in. Though there are different guilds, we are all still one Eurobricks community. )

This build makes a perfect background to showcase minifigures. I like the simple patches of snow and ice. I finally found a case of about 20 CMF Series 12. I bought 5 that I felt out correctly: 2 wizards, 1 fairytale princess, 1 jester, and only 1 Hun warrior. I am just glad I found them at all, as stores around me never carry them. The Hun is definitely a nice figure and worth getting for the brigandine torso and accessories. Stian's travels may cross paths with Sir Gareth, and we are united in a common cause in bringing peace to Historica and destroying the Drow.

Nice build, TheLazyChicken! I like your rock and the incorporation of SNOT technique on the bottom. The foliage looks nice as well. The pictures seem a little bit blurry. Would you care to share more about the reference stories? I believe I know the stories, but it would be nice if it was explained in your presentation of the MOC. Brick on, TheLazyChicken!

This is very detailed and large, pj_bosman! I like the details, like the sand green tower dome, the greebling on the dark orange building, the tan roof line, the clock hands (to name a few). The entire build is quite detailed! The different roofing techniques are nice. The reflection on the black-brick water looks really good, though the black is quite dark for water. I cannot think of a better color to use, though. The only thing I would like to see different is a way to close the gaps on the wall and dome of the tower. The technique used is nice, but the gaps are noticeable. Perhaps cheese slopes could be incorporated to help fill gaps? This MOC is an excellent Eurobricks beginning, and I cannot wait to see what else you build. Brick on, pj_bosman!

That is a nice cave, TheLazyChicken! I like the rock-work and the water effect. The border ties the MOC together nicely. For constructive criticism, the photo seems to be a little bit out of focus. Perhaps try to increase the light then retake the photo from further back using a zoom function on the camera. It would look better if the corners of the MOC were not clipped in the over-all picture. For building technique, I would like to see some slopes and wedges used to break up the squareness of the components of the base, such as the snow drifts and the border of the water. Nice fig posing . Brick on, TheLazyChicken!

Is the prime minister vote just for fun, or does it have other implications along with it? Does the prime minister have special duties? I remember seeing posts from the last vote, but I do not remember what the meaning behind the vote actually was. -
I knew that the leopard figure was a Chima figure and the Master is from the 90's wolfpack. I also understand keeping CMF's together (at least one copy) as I do the same (for the most part). The accessories are nice for use in other minifigs as well, so I have mixed parts in from some. I tend to avoid using the torsos, heads, and legs in other minifigures (even though my sigfig torso is from the highlander) since they are made of cheaper plastic.

Great fig posing, Tomsche! The build is nice overall, but I think the ground would look a little better with the incorporation of some wedge plates to break up the straight lines in the ground. That fence is nice. I think the minifigures would look better if they were mixed up a bit instead of being the original collectible minifigures, but I understand that this build works for a showcase of the collectible minifigures, as you did in another build. Brick on, Tomsche!

Nice build, Carson! I especially like the amount of detail packed into this small build. The arch over the opening is nice on top and bottom, and I think the microfigs are well utilized here. That tree in back is very nice. The only suggestion I have for improvement is that the roof and stone ends do not match up very well. The roof might look better if you somehow incorporated a bend to make it better follow the end shape, or if the cheese wedges on the arch were raised individually on plates to follow the edge-line of the roof. Brick on, Carson!
