I am a bit of an army builder myself, so with all due respect to you other guys out there who like to be surrounded by legions of Stormies or such - we cannot expect TLC to consider our collections when it comes to minifigs. If you army-build Castle or Police or whatever, all minifigs of all themes have been exchanged several times over the past 10 years, and it's good how it is. I for myself don't always stick with the latest but with the one I am most happy about in terms of design and money spent. So if TLC throws out ONE new Stormie in 2012, we can all do the math if we like to have our armies replaced with this guy. And seriously, missing out the opportunity to get Stormie BPs a couple years ago is not TLCs fault, neither is our unwillingness to pay the prices on BL or Ebay. I think the BP Stormy was really really nice and the small changes on the torso won't justify it for me to spend A LOT (or have a mess with BL / Ebay buy/sell orders) in exchanging my guys. For everyone who wants to exchange, he's gonna throw a lot of old Stormies in the market and make some guys pretty happy. And about the Sandys, they are special troops, I think they'll blend in perfectly with my BP-Stormies, they have the same helmet design, it will look awesome, I am pretty sure. Will probably get 3 of those droid escape sets to have my small platoon! About 3PO, we all have the choice which one to take, right? Everyone's a winner here, since we don't need legions. (now that's frightening me..)

Love the new figs, seriously. Evolution is not a matter of SW, just check minifigs in general, compare the collectable ones with any 10 year old minifigs. There are a few exceptions though, where the redesign feels a little unnecessary and therefor just a trick to make some easy money. I think about the new 3PO in 2012 and new Stormie in 2012 (not the Sandy, he is awesome). Giving us one new Stormie that doesn't fit our current army is a not very nice move. On the other hand, I also like to complain about designs they didn't re-do. The officer in the Rebel Hoth BP, he should be wearing Lukes torso from the Wampa set. So I guess it's difficult to make everyone happy, and for all others, there is BL or ebay, right?

Losing interest in a theme you once loved
Zzz replied to RichardRobins's topic in General LEGO Discussion
As a kid I was into town only, as a young teen I was into town, train, pirates, space and technic. Needless to say, those were the glorious ages for these themes. I was not even considering getting some new pirates or some of the PotC licence, actually, and almost the same goes for the other ones. I was considering getting Space Police Central, since it's just so cute and Sci-Fi-esque, but still I didn't do it. But since there were many years between and those themes changed a lot, perhaps it doesn't count, or only on a side note. SW on the other hand, which I was very loyal to in the beginning, lost it's interest not completely, but I am much more picky which one to get than ever before. Reasons? Space, money, seriously no need. The Minifigures for example, I have multiples of the first 3 seasons, but stopped collecting, but that might be due to the reason that my ex-girlfriend used to search for these, and she was very spot-on in getting the right ones. ( I told her I need samurai and sumo, she came back with 4 each, no mistake) So stopping on these is merely a combination of getting tired, being unable, being sentimental. Still, one theme I would welcome with open arms is Indiana Jones, it's just amazing and I would buy it even if quality of design was 20% down and price was 20% up. Indy means being loyal to me. -
Same here, but a quick brain-browse just came up with the following: Tatooine Death Star (Alderaan) - no one really cares about this one and I wonder what minifig or ship this should be connected to Yavin IV Hoth Dagobah (Asteroid) - the chances for this are minimal Bespin Endor Not that much left there. Yavin IV, Hoth, Dagobah. Suddenly I realise there was only one new planet in E6! I can't wait for that Cloud Car btw, it's just damn cute!

BOXY?

70€ for the X-Wing seems not like a big increase. In the past years we had sets with 396 (ARC) and 398 (Jedi shuttle) parts in this range. I assume the X has about 500 pieces. 60€ is a bit harsh for the TIE, but I guess in France, Germany, UK, Italy we will get it cheaper over Amazon very soon.

Gosh, I want 4 sets and all those Planet sets already from Winter wave. This is a feeling I didn't have since... (walks away) Cloud Car and Bespin and ... (Lobot, Bespin Guard?) = yay! Then, the rumours for summer, well I always say, Jedinews was always correct. I said that pretty often already. I say it again. Desert Skiff= need it Cloud Car = want it (I have those 2, but come on, we have 2012 then, they gonna be sweet!) AT-ST = I take a look, I am happy with the one from Endor Jabbas Palace = Listen, TLC. Look at the sales numbers numbers for Endor and Echo Base. Both 100€. Look at the sets. You get it? No? Look again. Yep, there you go. One is terrible, the other one great. And now get me a nice Palace, will you??

They need to go back to where they started from: into space. Though I liked SP3, they were moving closer and closer to Earth without the exploration and open space focus anymore. Mars Mission was only taking place on Mars, not in space; Space Police was also on a planet, they didn't even have fully enclosed helmets to start with; Alien Conquest is obviously only on Earth with ground vehicles and an infantry helicopter. It's not space. I like the idea but I'd prefer (and abuy again) space ships. To fly to other worlds, to explore and to find new adventures for ship and crew. Enterprise meets Millennium Falcon meets the Normandy. It's all based on using a vessel to experience new adventures in space. We need that. Some epic space ships.

Classic all the way. I loved Futuron, M-Tron, Blacktron 1 and Ice Planet as well, but when I look at all those remakes people show in flickr or Brickshelf, there are so many possibilities with todays colours, bricks and techniques, that make the usually boring combination of light grey and blue appear like the invention of the wheel.

I didn't imagine being able to do something like this out of Lego, when I was younger. And I would say that from all official sets that I built (only System that is, no Technic), the Y-Wing engines were the most interesting and ingenious design I ever had in my hands!
-
Thanks a lot for this. The engines on 7658 were perhaps the funniest thing ever to build for me and if they didn't improve the cockpit a lot, there is no point for me of getting this then..
-
The only set with only 3 minifigs it seems ! Is there anyone, Mirandir or someone else, who could tell if it seems to have more pieces / detail than 7658 ? Sorry to be such a pain, but I am a huge fan of 7658 and despite landing gear, I seriously wonder what they might have fixed with such a perfect set, that still not sells for a high price on Ebay / BL.. Also, it's kind of ironic to have the Lego Dutch survive the Battle of Yavin and meet Ceremonial Princess Leia !

Brickshelf and "2012" were my friends, and they can soon be yours : ) Police is terrible, junorised junk. It's that terrible, yes. No offense, if you like them, I am not the rain on your parade, but for me this is just a kick in my face. The other vehicles are not half bad. Especially the orange truck (with some more orange pieces hopefully) and the 4WD with motorbikes are nice.
-
I am too stupid to find them I suppose... I only pass by those usual suspects, the SW, Dino and whatsoever pages. I only saw the Fire page and I have to say .. yucks.. the fire truck is somewhat nice but has very classic design. No offense, but that is how 12 year olds would build one. Lego was so advanced with their SNOT trucks and now this? I seriously hope the other trucks will be better, otherwise the years old cement mixer will be the peak of their truck design I am afraid. If anyone could give a hint with what words where to look, that'd be splendid. Flickr and BS don't respond to me... EDIT: Ah - found them!

The other day I was just praising this set and finally getting an updated Obi-Wan and Anakin from E3, but afterwards I realised that the Interceptor is just way too big. So I have to admit, I understand the problem with it. I guess a real one should be 5,5 meter, if I remember correctly. And assuming that a minifig is 2m tall, let's say (I know thats big but it's make things easier here) it'd still be easily 8m long... I know that this seems a bit nerdy, but I really don't like too big sets. I have a bigger problem with the Landspeeder being so big than the Tantive IV being ridicolously small, for some strange reason.
-
Same here. I am really happy that we receive some E3 sets lately, and they're all very nice: The ARC-170, Palpis Shuttle, Tri-Fighter, and now an ETA Starfighter! Only bad it's hard to come by some E3 clones, since TLC only focuses on the CW clones.. The other sets all don't look like big surprises, and I belong to the people being a little bit disappointed by the X-Wing. Sorry for that!
-
I only watch the original movies that luckily came with the UK box as "extra DVDs". Still, they don't have the quality of the THX remastered VHS tapes, but since I don't own a VHS player anymore, I am happy with that. Everything that came afterwards is rubbish, no one needs it. The Family Guy movies were more of a tribute than all those "better" versions.

How do the quality of Star Wars sets compare to other licensed themes?
Zzz replied to Fallenangel's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Oh yeah, 8038 - I forgot that in my small list ! Wonderful set, one of my favorites.. Yeah, I would count it under the examples of high quality SW sets. The average SW set doesn't deliver that much for the money. Take those (around) 40€ sets: Mace Windus Fighter, Swampspeeder, Geonosian Fighter, Battle for Geonosis and compare it to Venice Canal Chase or Chase for the Stolen Treasure in the Indy area, or the Fight for the dagger for PoP. I can not elaborate, since this is my own personal opinion and based on my taste, but I get much more value from those latter sets and I feel that TLC puts much more effort in the design and quality of those. They seem finished, complete and ready to go once built. SW sets (especially the smaller and medium ones) lack of content and quality. Bricks, techniques, minifigs, it all seems made in a rush. With the other mentioned licences, I feel like designers really asked themselves how someone would interact with those sets. The builds are just nicer to look at. Still, I can not speak on the same level of HP, Cars and Spongebob. And also, there are SW exceptions. Those are marvelous and win every comparision. I am happy to own those, but for the mass of mediocre sets, I would say that especially Indy just delivers more quality sets. If I owned any of the upper listed SW sets for 40€, excuse me, no offense, but I would feel cheated. -
How do the quality of Star Wars sets compare to other licensed themes?
Zzz replied to Fallenangel's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think without a few exceptions (10198 Tantive IV, 4483 AT-AT, 7676 LAAT/i) the design, play features and price per piece for SW sets is just bad. Since I think it would be unfair to compare it to licences based on cartoons (as you mentioned Spongebob and Cars), I would like to compare them to Indiana Jones and Prince of Persia. Indy and PoP have better builds, better design, better parts, better minifigs, better price - they're overall just better in a diplomatic comparision. Still, SW has.... spaceships! We love those. -
Am I the only one who basically jus checks the number of the last page? If there were +5 pages over the night, I would know there is finally some first pics!! Seriously, cannot await it! Especially the E3 Jedi Starfighter. In my book the one he had at the end wasn't as yellow as the one he left in Grevious' ship, was it? Anyway, E3 Anakin, E3 Obi-Wan.. Cannot await it. Just strange there is no full R2 in the set, but I guess we all have enough of our favorite litter box, right?
-
I need this little guy four times and I live in Germany. Should be sent from EU or US, otherwise postage will kill me. Please let me know if you have what I need! : ) (Minifigs should be new, mint, and without printing issues what occured with this figs helmet sometimes...)
-
I am pretty afraid those will be of cheap plastic, like the Kinder surprise eggs (anyone know them in the US, or you don't have 'em?). I assume they work to hold the parts of the mini model and the minifig, which are made actually of "chinese" plastic I assume. No negativity here, I just guess so. Still, if they were made of real Lego plastiv, like the pods some years ago, that would be sweet!
-
from Jedinews: There will be a new range of ‘planets’ sets. These will each include a hollow planet, a buildable mini vehicle and a mini-figure. 9674 Naboo Starfighter and Naboo Pilot 9675 Sebulba’s Podracer and Sebulba 9676 TIE Interceptor and TIE Pilot Notable on this new list if that the battle packs will now mix heroes and villains into one box… 9488 ARC Troopers vs. Commando Droids 9489 Endor Rebel (x2) vs. Scout Trooper & Stormtrooper 9491 Geonosian Cannon 9490 Droid Escape 9492 TIE Fighter 9493 X-Wing 3866 Battle of Hoth (LEGO Games) What's so unrealistic about this? Sure it's very OTish, but after 2009 (Echo Base, Endor, Tantive) TLC knows what they can sell, also we had many CW sets in the past years. Tie and X-Wing are old, so is Droid Escape. Nothing wrong about updates here. I absolutely and only believe Jedinews, they were always right so far. Still, I'm wondering what happened to the Y-Wing and the Eta-Starfighter? I don't think they can top the last Y-Wing but I desperately need an E3 Eta and those hero minifigs in new looks! EDIT: Whooo.... 666th post!

AH, lovely, an upgraded ETA, that's what I need! Especially if it comes with a new E3 Obi-Wan, and not a CW one! Good idea, you might be right with this!
