What country(s) is this calendar for? I thought double points was most of October. The calendar only shows 4 days. Andy D

Even though the Akro-Mills are stackable, I am not sure I would stack them unsupported. The ones I have do have a place on the back for a screw support that could secure them to the wall. You might check to see if the Raaco has holes for screw support. I was going to use a bunch of Akro-Mills cabinets but I decided I did not want my studio to be overrun with cabinets since my build room is also my display room. I transitioned to using Sterelite 15 quart bins with plastic baggies or Glad storage containers as my primary storage solution. The bins are kept in cabinets so when I am not in the middle of a build I can keep my LEGO studio looking neat. IHTH Andy D

Tools you use
Andy D replied to nerdsforprez's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Many of the tools mentioned here are great, and I use many of them, but... I have been having some issues with my back and I just discovered that a reacher- grabber is a wonderful way to retrieve dropped pieces with no pain. I can even retrieve a 1x1 with it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00THEDK0C?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 Best new tool in my arsenal... Andy D -
There is a great! Wonderful, long running thread on storage an sorting that has just about (but I am sure not all, yet) every possible storage and sorting solution available. You might check it out, it is quite long, but I got through it every now and again just for more ideas. It is located at: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=26213 I hope this helps. I was one of the early backers. I backed at $350, but it did not make it. I still wanted lights, so I have invested in almost $300 of Brickstuff lights. So, too late for me, I doubt I will be buying the iBrix lights. The Brickstuff lights are wired, but the wires and LEDs are really tiny, this both their best feature and their most difficult feature, but the wires are really easy to hide. I have been putting a display together and I find I need a break after about every 4 LEDs because of the delicate work, but maybe that's just me and my big fingers, my old hands and nerves. I really like the Brickstuff lighting effects controller because it provides so many different effects. I still wish Dustin and his wireless iBrix system well! Andy D

This thread has deteriorated to the point of uselessness. Just more rants. I normally don't post like this but I can see no use for this thread to continue. Just MHO, YMMV Andy D

If LEGO re released the Holiday Train there would be as many people upset about that as there are people upset about the re release of the Toy Shop. I'm glad so many of you will not be buying the Toy Shop... It will make it that much easier for me to find and purchase the multiples of this set that I want. Just MHO, YMMV, Andy D

Attribution of Building Techniques
Andy D replied to ludov's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
To add to my above post, in case it was not clear. I DO NOT believe anyone should just copy someone's MOC, and claim it for their own, no one should even use a large percentage of someone else's MOC and claim it for their own. Just using some novel subassembly (preferably with credit) should be OK. If it is for sale or for use in a contest, I believe folks should be more concerned with what they use, when in doubt... Invent your own. Just MHO, YMMV Andy D -
I think it may be a little too late for a poll. Already on page 4, will people come back to vote or just the new readers? Andy D

Looking forward to the bonus sets. Anyone remember how soon in Oct they became available last year? Andy D

I hope so! I would not mind an updated Cafe Corner. As for the Toy Shop, this is a must buy for me. To me this was the best WV set, so I am very, very happy with the re-release. I already have 3 of the original (I combined 2 to make 1) but I would really like to have more so I can make a Toy Shop modular. Thanks to TLG for this excellent re-release. Andy D

Attribution of Building Techniques
Andy D replied to ludov's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I believe **Everything** in LEGO is built on some previous work. Someone connected 2 bricks together in a novel configuration, someone else saw this an then connected a third brick in a novel configuration, pretty soon someone puts all this together and has a novel subassembly of some sort. Then someone else sees a new way to use this subassembly in a new way. By sharing, we are all helping each other AND expanding the ART of LEGO. I agree that it is considerate to mention in a thread that you plan to use such and such subassembly in a new MOC, and it is also considerate (but not required, we all forget where we got some ideas) to mention that use in the introduction of your MOC. This is one of the great things about communities, not just the sharing and " look what I did" but the furthering of the art. As for making money off your creations, unless you just added gingerbread to a construction and call it your own well... we all use many pieces of other's MOCs and official LEGO sets this is how the art is advanced and what I like about these LEGO communities. Just MHO, YMMV Andy D -
Is there a design program (LDD or LDraw or...) that allows you to stack frogs like that? My guess is ... Bricks. Andy D

Great depiction of the farm house scene from the 1953 movie. When I was a kid, that was the scariest scene in the movie. Great tripod and tanks. Though I do not remember the tanks in the farm scene. This really brings back memories, maybe I'll have to watch it again soon.... Andy D

[HELP] Storing Parts
Andy D replied to murtaughf3's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
There is an excellent topic in General discussion that answers every question on sorting an storing, mor than you can imagine... I seem to visit this thread at least once a month and I have browsed it beginning to end at least twice a year. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=26213 I hope this helps, Andy D -
As an early backer (disappointed that it did not fund) I hope he can do something. I will still buy some! Andy D

You are correct. I think the buildings need some trim in Christmas colors and maybe some winter looking vines on the walls and such, maybe some holly looking trim. I think the style of the buildings can be a good start, it just needs some winter, festive trim. Andy D

I never thought of this. I have used the MMV as part of my Christmas display ( though not lately) but maybe if I update it to look mor like the WV sets I will start using it again. Great idea, thanks. Andy D

I just found out that apparently there is a new LUG in So. California in the Inland Empire that has had meetings in a library in Riverside CA. The information is sketchy and I can't locate a contact. If anyone has any more info I would appreciate it. Thanks, Andy D

It's never too late! Or as I have been told about most anything.. "it's only too late if you don't start now". Sorting 500,000 pieces can be a daunting process, but it can be done. I would start with a rough sort of some categorization that makes sense to you, then do fine sorts until you have your collection sorted to a degree that makes sense and is useable for you. I am still working on my system, each time I use my parts to build something I learn what works an more importantly, what doesn't so I can make corrections. IHTH Andy D

Update NXT firmware?
Andy D replied to Andy D's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That would work. But it seems every time you update applications that are closely coupled to the computer OS like the LEGO apps and things like Flash that some residue seems to be left behind. If it becomes necessary and there is no other way I will uninstall the EV3 software, reinstall the NXT-G, Update the firmware on the NXT's then uninstall the NXT-G reinstall the updated Flash and the EV3 software. I think you can see why I would like to find another way... Alternately as you say, just stick with the 1.28 for now and maybe LEGO will introduce a way to allow the NXT firmware to be updated under the EV3 application. Thanks, Andy D -
I am getting my NXT setup running again. However since I am using Mac OS 10.8.5 the NXT-G software is very cranky (doesn't run). I have found that I can run the NXT-G if i use a new version downloaded from LEGO. it runs, however when installed it changes the Flash to an older non-supported version, so other Flash dependent things will not work. When I reinstall the latest version of Flash, NXT-G will not run. I downloaded the EV3 software and it runs well, however it cones up with a message "Update Firmware, go to Update Firmware Menu". I have read that you cannot update NXT firmware under the EV3 program. I have NXT firmware version 1.28 on my NXT bricks, I know 1.31 is the latest version. Question... Do I really need version 1.31 or is 1.28 good enough for most things? Question 2... Is there an easy to update the firmware that does not involve the NXT-G software? Thanks, Andy D
