  1. There is a really great thread here... http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=26213 I go back to it every so often when trying to get new ideas. IHTH Andy D
  2. I just checked the App Store and I could only find NXT remote apps by one guy... RoboRemote, he has an app called Supercars which looks like it is used for controlling motorized vehicles. He also promises a server free solution... Have you seen this yet? In my desire to program the NXT I had to find a way... The old NXT-G 2.0 software will not run on my Mac running 10.8.5. I found an update from LEGO which worked but it changed my Flash version to an older, non-supported version of Flash. NXT-G ran just fine, but anything else that requires Flash, not so much. I re-updated my Flash and it broke NXT-G. With a little more searching I found that the EV3 software would program my NXT and run on my computer. Things are coming together, but I have a lot (a real lot) to re-learning about NXT. Guess I'll get my old NXT books out and make lots of use of Google, and hopefully find some help here. Thanks, Andy D No, I don't think jailbreak is a good option for me. Not into programming micro controllers. Maybe the old Android device is a good idea... Any recommendations? Thanks, Andy D
  3. I find I need to do a project in NXT. It has been several years since I did anything in NXT, because I have been involved with modular buildings and the like, so I have a new learning curve with NXT. Right now I am trying to find new iOS apps... I have seen one called iNXTG for programming the NXT from the iPad and I was wandering if anyone here has used it and what are your opinions of it. Also I am looking for an iOS app to control NXT 2.0 from my iPad. I know this is built into EV3, but I have NXT 2.0 and do not really want to buy EV3, so any help on iOS app for NXT 2.0 will be much appreciated. Since I am restarting NXT, I hope I can get some help from the experts here. Thanks, Andy D
  4. I seem to be in the same situation... I buy many sets when they are available because I do not want to miss them, but I do not have the space to display them even if I had the time to build them all. However I am working on a space where I can switch out built sets, so I can have more sets built than I can display at any time. Also some of my display space is taken up on a seasonal basis. I try to have my Halloween display (which I rebuild the majority of each year) up fro September until the first couple of weeks in November, then I have my Christmas display up from mid-November until mid-January. So five months are taken by seasonal displays and about two months are used for building seasonal displays. All this doesn't help to diminish my stack of unopened sets. I have decided to only buy the modular of the year (two copies) the Winter Village set of the year (two copies) and maybe one or two other sets because there is something interesting. The extra sets I usually build to learn something, then disassemble to but the parts in my inventory. I still have some sets that I really have no interest in and I don't want to part them out as I know someone else would like to have and I plan to organize and sell them at some future time. Andy D
  5. Wow! I never thought an Easter Island MOC could be made so, so small. Great work! Andy D
  6. Several years ago when I was in Seattle I visited the Space Needle, they had the LEGO Space Needle, so I bought it. Too bad the Trevi Fountain set was not out when I was there, but I received the set for Christmas year. I think it would be a great memory to buy the LEGO set at the actual location. Andy D
  7. Amen! These are some good ideas for promoting this. I hope someone with the marketing knowledge will reach out to him, and I hope he has enough sense to accept help and take another run at this. Advertised right I think it could happen. Just MHO, YMMV. Andy D
  8. Down to 5 days and 90,998 to go. I believe it will take a major miracle, but I am still hoping. In order to make it he needs to sell out on his three top award levels. It is a nice project, I am starting to believe that maybe he just needs too much community support.
  9. This time machine (to me) is almost as iconic as the TARDIS. I don't think I have ever encouraged anyone to put a set on ideas, but (for me) this is the one. It is a great size and piece count for Ideas as well. Great MOC! Andy D
  10. This is a great and timely topic for me. I am getting ready to start my Halloween display, then my Christmas display. I have tried numerous ways to light my displays with large scale lighting and I really did not totally like it, so this year I decided to go the LED route. I like to have my Halloween display up by early September, then I disassemble it and put up Christmas. Obviously these are not permanent displays and I would like to use the same group of LED's for both. I have looked at both Lifelights and Brickstuff. I like Brickstuff best because of the small size, but that could also be it's downfall for reusability. Question: Does anyone here have any experience with reusing the Brickstuff lighting system? How is the durability? Thanks, Andy D
  11. The last couple of updates have been about asking those who have pledged to spread the word. I feel that he should be reporting where he is advertising, it appears to have been a customer driven campaign so far. In the beginning I was one of his biggest boosters. It appears that he has some technical skills, it might be too late, but maybe he should have brought someone on board with some marketing skills. It looks like he is trying to do it on his own, like so many people with a good idea trying to be too protective of his assets. 100% of nothing is still nothing, 50% of something is still something. Just MHU, YMMV Andy D
  12. My thoughts exactly. I tripled my original pledge to try to make a difference. Well, 15 days to go,I hope something happens soon. Andy D
  13. Unfortunately this has gone from pledges of around $5000 per day to maybe $1000. I hope Dustin figures out something soon or it will be too late. I really thought this had a good chance. If anyone is sitting on the fence about backing, now is the time, go back it! If you are afraid of losing your money... Your CC doesn't get charged unless the project funds. Andy D
  14. Dustin needs to get hot on the marketing! I really want yo see this made, but.. but... Well, well Andy D
  15. Great! Now Dustin's challenges (which is mostly solved) is to get it small and produceable in volume. I hope he has some new marketing strategies for the KS campaign, he needs more widespread advertising to get between 2,000 to 3,000 backers (my estimate) I hope he succeeds. I backed at $350, and spread the word where I know. If someone can get it on other LEGO forums and Blogs I am sure that would help. Andy D
  16. There was an I-Brix update today. By popular demand there are 2 all white options. A 20 all white for $80. and A 50 all white for $150 If you like this system but have been waiting for an all white set... Go pledge now! I still think the $349 option is the best value, 2 power plates, 2 booster plates and 100 mixed colors, 20 each of the 5 colors. Just MHO YMMV, Andy D
  17. They still have plenty of the $349 level left (the best deal IMHO). Most of the backings for over $100 are also great as well. Don't go for the cheapest, go for the one that will give you something to work with. For the cost of one medium to large LEGO set you can get a good setup. But it has to get funded to go any further... Just MHO, YMMV Andy D
  18. Well, I just put my money where my mouth is... I changed my pledge from $115 to $349. A big part of this is just wanting to help this guy succeed! Now if a few more folks will up their pledge... Well every $ counts. Andy D
  19. Some people can... Some people can't... Me... I just don't want to make my own, I would rather have something that looks better. I know my skills and a "roll your own" solution for me would just look like a home made mess. I want my displays to look as good as they can. Don't let my comments imply that no one should try to make their own, if you can, go for it! Just not me. Off to double my pledge. Andy D
  20. An update from the developer of iBrix... Today in the developer updates the developer of iBrix published an update directly answering some of the questions we have posed. I really hope this projects succeeds, maybe I'll double my pledge. Andy D
  21. He's got some marketing to do. With 22 days to go he needs to get over $5000 per day to get his goal. I hope he makes it... Maybe I should do another pledge... But which one? Andy D
  22. One thing I like about iBrix is that it is based on a USB power, I can plug it into a USB charger, plug that into a switched AC outlet and turn off and on from a light switch, instead of finding a hidden battery box and replacing batteries. I have some of those light sets that use wires and it looks very difficult to hide the wires without drilling the LEGO (maybe it's just me). I don't mind the different colors, I think it will be OK to add a little variety. I am getting concerned that it may not fund, I still hope it does. Andy D
  23. After watching the videos I am amazed that the designer managed to get the receiver in such a small package. I really do hope he succeeds, but then again I am always cheering for the individuals and small companies who put themselves out there, put in the time and try something. AndyD
  24. I hope that guy has some serious marketing plans. He's got almost $125,000 to go in 24 days. Over $5,000 per day. Best of luck to him... I really want some of those lights. Andy
  25. Looks like the lightning is only effective 8 to 12 inches, so just put up a barrier to keep people 12 inches away and it should be all good. Andy
