Increasingly losing patience with Lego
Feuer Zug replied to SteamSewnEmpire's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I agree the Hidden Side boxes weren't the easiest to understand what parts were included. I often checked on BrickSet while at the store when they were on sale. I did pick up the train, mainly for the railing ramp, but also to check out the new axle design. I wasn't sold on the new axles, but the train did have some parts to use. -
We want the amazing 60278 Crook's Hideout Raid!

Modified, it would make a decent industrial building. In light of modern "sensibilities", the giant dynamite stick has to go. Sorry, but the PC police have more power in LEGO City than their own. C'est la vie.- 21 replies

LEGO Ideas Comes Through - The Train Station: Studgate
Feuer Zug replied to Feuer Zug's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I have always been partial to the sound of traction motors of the ÖBB ES 64U Taurus locomotives on startup. Back on topic, the price point will probably be up there given the piece count. The track separation will entail modification to the station or fun with flexi-track. I can handle either. -
Lego FS E.656 in H0 Scale - and Italian UIC-X coaches

Superb work. You captured the look and feel of the trainset in 4-wide, which isn't easy to do. -
Good looking TRAXX locomotive. Instantly recognizable.

Increasingly losing patience with Lego
Feuer Zug replied to SteamSewnEmpire's topic in LEGO Train Tech
TRUTH! Everybody has their particular likes, dislikes, and opinions. Differences should be welcomed as long as they stay civil. I've strayed into the world of off-brand track and haven't been tarred and feathered by the purists. As such, I cannot cast stones myself without inviting similar criticism. For some, cost is a factor in going to other manufacturers. Others, it's the color options, or piece types. Whatever it is, we don't need to become snobbish stud (rivet) counters. If a person is happy with 6 wide, 7 wide, 8 wide, or whatever, embrace it. If it looks like a rainbow hot mess a 5-year old cobbled together, offer constructive thoughts and ideas. Let's play nice and brick on. -
Nice parts use on the roof. I like the ramps there. The overall feel is good and fitting for such a fine establishment.

LEGO Ideas Comes Through - The Train Station: Studgate
Feuer Zug replied to Feuer Zug's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I understand this is a way for LEGO to test the waters using BrickLink to sell some rejected Ideas concepts. If the crowd funding path pans out, we may see more of these as a way to let overlooked Ideas sets come to semi-official build status. Yes, LEGO is restricting the designers to in production parts and colors, but that is still a considerable selection to work from. As mentioned, it is basically a MOC parts listing and instructions or Bricks and Pieces parts order all setup in one tidy package. I'm cool with that. I got the firetruck from the original BrickLink crowd funding scheme and had no issues with it. Yes, I'm interested in more than Traingate. The Castle in the Forest, Pursuit of Flight, and Anatomini are on my list as well. Perhaps if the castle does well, LEGO might see it as an option for the future too. The theme did well in the lasted vote. -
The premise behind the Bricklink release of 13 sets is to let people vote with their wallet. LEGO Ideas has all of these designs reaching the mystical 10,000 milestone. LEGO reviewed them and elected to pass on producing them as a set for their own undisclosed reasons. LEGO seems to understand there may still be a profit in the concepts from Ideas and is willing to test the waters. By opening them up to crowd funding sets, they can immediately gauge the interest level in each one, including trains related options. People will subscribe to buy the sets they like. The first 13 to get 3,000 people pledging funds to it get built. Money talks and if Traingate gets into the build stage, then it shows enough interest because people are committing money to it. There is minimal risk to LEGO as they will pre-sell the entire production run before they mold a single brick. It's all about the profits here, as you allude to. No printed instructions means less costs for them. The LEGO/Bricklink design team will be conducting a QA between now and May 31st to verify the set meets stability and suitability requirements (according to their announcement). LEGO is putting their name on the box and will be backing it with standards. I dare say, it's not a fishy marketing ploy, but one that gives them the highest return for the least amount of work. It enables them to salvage work put into the Ideas program before people really become disenfranchised with it. The numbers of sets quarterly hitting the 10K mark is growing, and people are starting to feel left out by the decisions LEGO makes. I am glad they declined to throw a single rocket model in. Those were getting old in many ways. They rereleased the Saturn V. Mod it.

Excellent work on the steam locomotive and the light mod fits perfectly.

All right train fans, it's time to start saving your pounds, euros, dollars, zloty, yen, or whatever local currency you have in your wallet. LEGO Ideas in conjunction with Bricklink (now a LEGO subsidiary) is opening up 31 passed over, non IP projects to the potential crowd funding stage. This will be similar to the last Bricklink deal. The top set list is The Train Station: Studgate. If we want to show LEGO trains are more than a niche of a niche, let's get some backing on this set so it makes it to the production phase. You can find the project page here: https://www.bricklink.com/r3/designer-program/designer-sets-for-adult-fans-of-lego/215385/The-Train-Station:-Studgate Further links to the actual announcements are here: https://www.bricklink.com/r3/designer-program/introducing.page https://ideas.lego.com/blogs/a4ae09b6-0d4c-4307-9da8-3ee9f3d368d6/post/7e027d01-6ec9-473c-b6b0-db8f92bbe5af My wallet is already crying for all the great projects, but this one most of all.

Serious thought and design work went into making this masterpiece. Excellent job. The details are spot on (except that pesky lighting wire). Can't wait to see what rolling stock you build to connect to it.

I would like to see a few more views. The slope above the side intakes seems a plate high, but I don't have enough to work on. The front end is perfect.

Lego G scale (1:22.5) - narrow gauge Start Set
Feuer Zug replied to Paperinik77pk's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Quite interesting. Your model fits well for the scale and the system car with studs on it is a real bonus. -
Good work in making everything fit. The dimensions allow for decent internal space in the cars, while the station has the right amount of detail. Mind the gap.

Honey, where are my pants? ...Sigh... They're supposed to be delivered in half an hour. Check the app. - Cute MOC.

Quite a scene. Lots of science happening, but it seems to have gotten out of control somewhat. Can we get a better picture of the chicken zapper? It's hard to see your giant frickin' laser.

Heavy iron on the high iron, I like it. Seems like you've captured everything but the decals.

Truth! As to the hot rod styled engine, I like it. The wings could give it that 1950's look, like a 59' Bel Air. Add a few cylinders to the ALCO motor and ramp it up to notch 8.

Excellent building. Plenty of details on both sides.

[MOC] Castle Beach Fire Department Engine 17
Feuer Zug replied to CastleBeachFire's topic in LEGO Town
Superb work on Engine 17. You've packed a lot of detail in a small space. The side mount pump panel details are stunning. -
Ungainly, cooky, but powerful. Nice work making it fit with all the angles.
