  1. ^^ I'd very much argue with you on that gunship but let's not hijack this thread :D This is indeed about Mortetesv's MOC rather than anything else.
  2. For all it's worth I really hope the Nebulon isn't voted for :) It seems to me like it makes for a really bad lego set. Definitely cool for a MOC, but it can only end up lacking in most aspects if they try to make some official rendition I think.
  3. ^^ This already makes 100% better impression than the photo you first shared! So though this still isn't ranking among my favourite mocs, it definitely gets the credit for being a cool design.
  4. I had you in my scope as a top-class builder for long... but you just promoted to the ultimate master tier :D I was already blown away by the sail barge vignette when I saw it on flickr not too long ago. But 'it's a trap!' is probably even more jawdropping. And I don't even have words for that ghost effect. Just fantastic. Amazing work!
  5. I was just about to comment that I feel like I have seen some WIP picture quite some time ago! Some of your first pictures actually date 7.5 years back. I will wait for better pictures before passing any more conclusive opinion (somehow I don't feel entitled to say 'judgment' in case of such renowned builder :D). But I am afraid the presentation of the model is really lacking at the moment. I believe that somehow the picture chosen for the 'cover' is really showing the model from nearly the worst possible angle. Hopefully more extended gallery will do it better justice. Even though I share some of the impressions with @SteamSewnEmpire, I very much disagree that asking $50 somehow puts this in the hot seat for sharper critique than if it was let's say a moc without instructions. Sure, if the instructions were free, one would naturally take the stand of gratitude and appreciation and gratitude. But wouldn't it be more appropriate to judge the model based on its objective qualities? I absolutely agree that @mortesv's MOC looks better. Size regardless, it is just far more impressive and gives me warm fuzzies, where this one doesn't. I am an advocate for smaller scale models in general but I can usually appreciate the fact that larger scale allows for a more detailed and accurate, and ultimately better-looking model (which doesn't necessarily need to be more impressive than different depictions in a smaller scale). This model seems to be one counterexample, where a larger scale is just a burden and brings no real advantages, except of, well, the larger size - which IS an important factor for a lot of people actually. I still have doubts regarding how good of a choice for publishing instructions this model was. Perhaps 6 years ago, it would have felt differently :) Nonetheless, none of this is 'conditioned' by the price tag of the instructions. Good PDF instructions are a ****ton of work and the amount of effort really scales with the size (and complexity) of the model. There is no way one can compare sharing an LDD file with sharing step-by-step manual made with at least some level of care (not auto generated). The instructions are meant for people who fancy building the model, or who just want to support the creators. And even with this arguably higher price, I am pretty sure it's still more a hobby and dedication than some profitable business. Bottom line, I see no reason to be more critical or more lenient when judging the model based on the price of the custom instructions. Sure, if the critique was towards the manual itself (e.g. ...I think $X for instructions for such small model and with this many errors is too much...) that would be legit :)
  6. I'm hoping that @saabfan remains true to that pledge and that the instructions are in the making! :D
  7. @Cjd223 That's a great review btw!
  8. @Cjd223 Thanks! Just between the two of us, I have not seen Rebels either :D Not even Clone Wars... don't tell anyone ;) I found interest in this particular ship thanks to this rendering, which I think looks awesome: https://images.app.goo.gl/Lp7iTcfh8RxjM58x8 @m4st3rt3ch Yeah... I should start using some custom label for this scale... I called my Venator MIDI scale and this scales perfectly to it, but I agree that MIDI sets the overall size expectation somewhat higher.
  9. Several months ago @Brick-Wombat (Philip) completed my Venator Star Destroyer and decided to build a few more scaled ships to accompany it. When I saw his pictures, I knew the fleet deserves to be made into instructions. I reached out to Philip and we decided to first publish the Arquitens. After some back and forth design collab, aiming for increased sturdiness and better buildability of the model, I think the result is quite pleasing :) Obviously, the model is very small and simple and most of you would be likely able to build it just by looking at the picture, but I took it as a chance to try out some new features in Stud.io and hopefully get better in making some more substantial models in near future. You can check out the free instructions here! All feedback is appreciated!
  10. Well done. Very impressive build and I love the fact that you were able to stand it on this single (and in fact very good looking stand). The details are nice and used for the good effect everywhere. I really like the somewhat regular greebling in the side trenches that uses the 1x1 clips facing bottom to bottom. Oh, and your photography is really good too!!
  11. Much respect! This is some next level alternate model design.
  12. I'm most impressed. The recently presented Home One from Matt felt like one of a kind marvel in terms of achieving these organic curves but man dare I say you match or even exceed his mastery at some places! And... is that a cloth piece on that rear section? Regardless of whether you decide to keep it on there, it's an ingenious thing to try out. Again... super impressed!
  13. I can already tell that my problem with rays and pie-slicing is way less an issue on the physical model. The internals is mesmerizing to see, one can really appreciate how little space you have to work with to make all the framing and connections!
  14. When I look at Falcon pics and focus on the main dish plating panels, I first see the concentric circular pattern in some of those ridges or off-color bits. The rays coming from the 'virtual' center of the dish pop up only after for me :D I bet psychiatrists could use it to determine my personality. The bottom line, you are probably right, at least concerning the way you see it. I agree with Jerac that getting some of those tiles off might help to break that up a bit! To the rounded edge - Joerg's piece because he only has the curve on the portions where the dish meets the mandibles. And there I totally dig it - the smooth blend in it creates is worth the curvature 'extremity' :D at the end. For the rest of the dish circumference, where it just overhangs the greebling, and most prominently at the very back where this stripe of thrust vector plates is, I think flat would look more appropriate still. But sure enough, different eyes, different view :)
  15. Part of me would like to suppress any criticism and just cheer for another great and especially very original MF model. I think you'd like to hear the other part out, so I will let it speak :D When I look at the model, the first thing I see are these rays formed by the thin wedges of the plating. Similar effect as with most of the lego playset models, but here it's amplified by how narrow the wedges are and how perfect the model looks in other regards. And I can't unsee them anymore. Somehow this circular symmetry has so strong visual impact that I can't ignore it and just see the homogeneous (albeit greebled and interrupted) panels which it is supposed to represent. Next thing I notice is the curvature all around the edge shaped up by the curved slopes. And even though I know that it looks pretty propper, give that nice even narrow rim... it just doesn't seem to fit the Falcon. It looks like some huge blacksmith went around and hammered in this rounded edge :) I totally dig its positives too - the low profile it allowed you to pull out or the absence of a gap between the plating and mandibles. Anyway, everything else about the design is really cool imo. I particularly like the slight taper in the sloping panel between the mandibles. That's a pretty rare feature on MF models :) I am excited to see the real build for sure. maybe the issues I have will be less prominent than on renders.
  16. Seesh, ok, this ledako guy seems awfully well established with his scams :( With their own website AND Bricklink store?! Selling the MOC plans from most top of the line designers like nobody's business... I wonder if one could report them to bricklink? Do you think anyone would care over there?
  17. Big fan of your work here! Super cool design with this one. And as a 'once-in-a-blue-moon-completes-a-moc' type of guy I am continuously impressed with your steady pace in expanding the fleet.
  18. @YodaSkate You think so? They appear quite substantial to me :) Mind you this reference pic might have some skewed proportions. But the two main canons seem pretty large on any picture. https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/disney/images/9/92/Jho's_Gunship.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1030?cb=20150226175717
  19. Pretty cool! One thing that bothers me and that is inherited from the 4490 are the thin gun barrels. I realize the 1x1 diameter is probably the best choice you can make for those given the limited options, but they just look small from most angles when compared to the bulk of the ship.
  20. @Monkfiche Unexpectedly, I am quite keen on the steeper version... not sure haha. The blockier look is certainly present but looks less bad than I would have anticipated. It might easily look even better IRL, renders tend to accent the shadows unrealistically. The window is excellent for sure! I don't think I do like the raised centerline. It kinda looks like a Tantive sporting mohawk haircut :D Did you try making a version without it? Edit: Now I am thinking that it might help to somehow break up the consistency in those stepped rings. The front really does look excellent and that's I think because it disguises that wedding cake kind of look.
  21. @LEGO Train 12 Volts Thanks! Yeah, it was the new pieces that really sparked the idea in the first place.
  22. I wouldn't grant myself such title but thanks! That's flattering :D I didn't implement PF but it should be an easy mod I think... Thanks! I would have never gotten around it wasn't it for the challenge :D In hindsight I think I should build more various stuff more often. @zephyr1934 Thank you!
  23. I hope this is the right forum to post this :) Recently I got challenged by my friend Felix to build a micro-scale steam locomotive. I have never tried building anything like this but I gotta say I was surprised how much fun it can be. The new pieces definitely open the whole another world of possibilities when it comes to tiny builds like this. And I am really quite pleased with the result :) If you want to build your own, I put together building instructions which you can get for free on Rebrickable!
  24. EP3 model - yes, please! :D Nicely done and a really nice picture!
  25. @Evergreen Did the film crew know when they were shooting the movies? I get the impression that all of these 'facts' are fan made anyway :D I am nitpicky too but sometimes one has to admit that even the holy source material is inconsistent.
