Could 2014 Make Lego Fans Bankrupt?
alanyuppie replied to BrickBuilder3213's topic in General LEGO Discussion
As a frugal AFOL..I reluctantly skip huge sets as soon as my MOC-mindset kicks in. Whatever parts in those premium sets will end up in my pile-of-bricks eventually ... no matter how aesthetically pleasing those sets are . I prefer my LEGO in small doses, lasting me 1-2 hours of a fun evening. -
Thanks! One of the main query I get always is whether parts need to be removed to transform between modes. I usually posted a few photos of mid transformation to show them otherwise :) Opps... here you go :) http://alanyuppie.blogspot.com/2014/10/lego-beast-wars-dinobot-part-1-dinosaur.html

Wrapping up my latest MOC, Beast Wars Dinobot. This one is a commission piece requested by a fellow Transformers fan, based on this guy below: Since I prefer to build LEGO TF inspired from G1 Transformers series (mostly cars or mechanical-looking beasts/animals), this MOC is a slightly different ballgame since the mode is organic-looking. I'm glad I got enough right parts in brown and similar tones to pull this through. One of the advantages of building LEGO Transformers with beast mode is that the robot arms literally form themselves without complex transformation ... like this Dinobot (or G1 Grimlock) where the dino legs become the robot arms easily.. The raptor arms were the final components I built. Without knowing how they will blend in, in robot mode, I'm suprised they turn out to be one of my favorite design techniques in this MOC (besides the raptor head which took me a while to built). The original BW Dinobot toy is pretty simple actually so its not hard to improvise upon it. But I dislike partsforming in any form (huge chunk of tail becomes weapons, duh). I took BOTH liberties in replicating the tail-weapon thingy (its a commission piece anyway.. cannot detract too much from what's expected by the client) , and also continue my no-partsforming policy in designing (the tail can remain there in beast mode until it end up on the back of the robot mode when done transforming). Attempt to fulfil the latter compounded in extra 1 week of building efforts. I build the raptor arms without considering how they will blend into the robot mode. To my suprise... they blended/tucked in perfectly without any form of redesigning. How I wish the back could be the front/chest instead compared to a raptor head .. but this is a commission piece.. so I gotta stay true to the original BW Dinobot toy =) Without dismantling the raptor tail , transformation to robot mode will cause the tail to end up at the back , facing up. Dinobot once auditioned for 'V' but was rejected due to poor range (he don't have a human /Pretender mode) Visit my blog in my signature to view the transformation sequence and even more photos of this guy. =)

Woah i was pondering over this term mere 10 minutes ago while having my instant noodle and ipadding this site. Before i plan to hit google , the link to this thread hovered over my screen on the first page of this subforum. How convienient. I would wanna coin a new term that applies to me but seriously huge investment in time doesn't sound too well acronymed.

LEGO exhibition FULL . Titanic a length of 11 meters
alanyuppie replied to leonsio123's topic in General LEGO Discussion
And that's just the tip of the iceberg LOL. any builder would seriously consider insuring their hands before starting such a massive project. -
Same like food , we eat what we like... sometimes on impulse / sudden craving. I believe this applies to hobbies as well. Stop if its becoming stressful or cause anxiety.. may it be MOC or buying new sets. A hobby is no longer one if you're not ENJOYING it. during your "exile" , sometimes you might discover renewed interest in LEGO.... or perhaps you might found Pink ponies to be more appealing. Either way.. its a big win for you.

I stopped and wonder whether my LEGO raptor started to look like a featherless chicken and should I contemplate to rebuild it or not.

Modifying Lego: Acceptable or Heresy
alanyuppie replied to eurotrash's topic in General LEGO Discussion
As a purist , and LEGO being LEGO , there are always workaround to most of our projects. Better to mod your overall/intended design to make use of available parts or hit the marketplace for intended parts. Well, there are always exception though.. modding a part to mimic another official parts sounds fine though, but that's a crude way of "solving problems" and shorten the MOCing experience tremendously. I hope I'm not the only finding more enjoyment in the building and rebuilding process to adapt to the parts I currently have. -
They looked stud-dy and sturdy at the same time! But the pikachu looks a bit pitiful there.

Inferno is an Autobot from G1 Transformers Cartoon series back in the 80s and he transforms into a fire truck . Same like most of my LEGO Transformers MOCs from recent years, Inferno is fairly articulated /posable, and transforms without parts detachment and reattachment. Specimen 1: the original Inferno Actually Inferno was never in my to-build list. But recently I was building a non-transformer™ transforming mech called Towmecha and noticed how the design can be adapted for Inferno easily as the cab-as-robot-chest transformation are similar. And then there's 4 LEGO ladders lying about (courtesy of official LEGO auto transporter set, I specifically bought to complement LEGO Ultra Magnus photoshoots) OK back to Inferno. The most fun part came from building the back of the vehicle to form the iconic legs and "rollerskate feet". As someone who hates chunky kibble, I can only design a slimmer version of the rotating ladder component (and it no longer conceal the head like in he original toy). A smaller back kibble means he's more stable when posed and won't topple over. These wing nozzles are sourced from LEGO Chima Eagle set. No real animals are harmed in the making of this bot. Vehicle without and with nozzles attached at the side. Notice the balljoint used. Comparison with my previous MOC, Towmecha Some Trivia for those who loves to read =) In Towmecha, the cab conceals the small robot head , so the roof is partially grey. For Inferno, there is alot of clearance for me to obfuscate a decently sized robot head at the back of the cab. This leaves the roof partially hollow. So I have to implement the hinged roof flaps to cover that up. These flaps will become shoulder pads in robot mode. I've been looking high and low for the "lifebuoy" parts from my inventory to mimic the hoses on the side of the truck (like in the original toy) but failed. (I'm not even sure I have 2 of them at all). The next best thing would be some printed tiles and a "steering wheel" I guess. After referring to google photos of various real fire engines, I almost applied yellow stripes running across the truck cab but given up on this idea. (Real Inferno don't have yellow stripes). The nozzles on the ladder tip started off as VERY big and complicated looking. But when I noticed how awkward it is when dangling at the back of robot mode, I simplified it to what you see currently. ROBOT MODE And finally..... a customary wacky shot to end my post =) For a complete set of photos of this MOC ,visit my blog entry below. http://alanyuppie.bl...hicle-mode.html

Lego is now the World's biggest toy maker.

I guess for Mattel's part ... the throne must be hard to LE'GO. -
Are you a collector, MODer, or MOCer?
alanyuppie replied to Paul B Technic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Jingle bricks jingle bricks. (I'm a) MOCer all the way. :) -
Shall I say LEGO City nowadays offer limited "building" experience?

Immmma gonna apply that on a gal named Peg-gy.

[MOC] legoformer neo eradicon (70707 alternate build)
alanyuppie replied to bacem's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Great work!! Set 70707 is sure one versatile for LEGO transforming-mech . The all-important balljoints and hinges are inside . I made one myself too from 70707 many months ago. (out of respect for threadstarter and not hijacking the topic, I wont post the photos of my moc, go google em yourself =) -
I lived in a townhouse and once bought Creator Townhouse at clearanced price in hope to MOC a version of it. But I changed my mind as it will expose the floorplan to potential opportunist with bad intentions out there. I sold the LEGO Townhouse MISB thereafter. regretful till now since it can fetch a good price since its retired.

I seriously hope for NON-yellow Creator constructon vehicles with modes like crane, excavator and bulldozer.

Maybe one of the staff is playing the hooky in the production lines. I guess this set is a must-have, by hook or by crook.

I'm seriously concerned about the safety level of this set.

Im just glad I put a soft green carpet beneath my table where I MOC. Yes there might be literally a hundred of tiny parts sunken into the depths of the fluffy fabric currently, but it saved my sole from eternal torture.

What BS are you talking about? ( runs...)

On the contrary, I believe it would be very stressful indeed for them to raise their kids.Kids being kids... they would prefer a huge variety of toys (some competing/from rival company).

Looks great. I suggest a single piece of flower petal on any random stem would literally 'steel the show" and thought provoking.
