Who are the best minifig customizers at Eurobricks?
Borador replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
I have to agree, it really depends. And honestly, in my eyes, no one is "bad", some people are just inexperienced. They haven't found their groove yet. It's hugely a matter of taste. I myself prefer figures made in a way LEGO would make them. But some people prefer super-detailed customs. Fine, some are awesome (check out Jay Stephens or Logan Fulford), but this isn't my style. And it isn't fair to compare these super detailed figures to more LEGO-esque ones like mine. Just a matter of taste and personal preference. I myself see all customs as good, but I do not hold them all to the same standard. -
Ah, where to begin? Queen; Fat Bottom Girls, Under Pressure, Another One Bites the Dust, We Will Rock You, We Are the Champions, Bohemian Rhapsody E.L.O; Mr. Blue Sky, Calling America, Don't Bring Me Down, So Serious, Getting to the Point, Telephone Line, Do Ya, All Over the World, Evil Woman, Secret Lives, Turn to Stone, Sweet Talkin' Woman, Ma Ma Ma Belle, Rockaria, Wild West Hero... Mm, too many of these... I'll come back later... Def Leppard; Promises, Armageddon It, Photograph, Animal, Have You Ever Needed Someone... Green Day; Basket Case, When I Come Around, Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Time of Your Life Third Eye Blind; Jumper, Never Let You Go, Semi-Charmed Kind of Life... Poison; Fallen Angel, Nothin' But a Good Time. Don't feel like doing any more right now...

If sales aren't going well, that's a perfect reason not to do more. We really don't know what goes on in there. It doesn't matter how many people like it. It matters how many people bought the sets. There is overlap, sure. But if sales aren't doing well, then continuing would be a bad move. Can you name any other theme, besides Star Wars, that they have "finished." Harry Potter is the only one that comes to mind. But I really didn't care for any of the films after the 2nd one, so I have no idea about what is or is not there.

But if Warner Bros says no wave three at all, then there will be no Gondor in said wave, for it won't come. If sales are bad, no one is going to want to do more. Neither WB, or TLG. Even if WB had told TLG to do a Gondor set in the contract, if both sides want out, they're getting out. Granted we don't know how bad sales are, or if they're even bad at all. But I think it's best just to move on and support ever Ideas set we can (despite Faefrosf being right, it's still our best hope, even if that is grading on a curve to an extreme)

Frankly, that's brilliant. I see now why they do this whole exclusive thing. It really is brilliant. But I think my point still stands. I mean, look at how careful they are with this line in normal sets. Most are really popular/mainstream characters. Even with that whole marketing scheme in place, that seems like the perfect way to give some people what they want, while still benefiting LEGO. I honestly think these last few years have been testing the waters with this line. I mean look at that list over in the DC thread. Compare that to the last few years. LEGO wanted to be careful, and so they came up with the above scheme to get a few people their favorite characters and make a bit of money on it. That's genius. And just look at this year. We've gotten both Green Lantern and Nolan-Batman (yes,it isn't the same suit) and honestly? If you had the choice between either the 2011 ones or the new ones, which would you choose? (Design wise, obviously, since I know someone is gonna take the old ones because they are worth more). Do you really think we'll never see Arrow or Phoenix? I think we will. Maybe we won't ever see Zurr En Arh Batman or the likes of it. Frankly though, I think anyone who would want something like that would be okay paying such a price it. I mean really, how many people even know how to spell that name?

I don't recommend it, but I've heard people claim success in turning green into sand green by sun bleaching it. This MIGHT (but probably would NOT) work here. But I do NOT recommended it. Do an experiment first if you do, as you may ruin the head. Otherwise, try decals. EDIT: the above was for yellow to flesh. For flesh to yellow, use a yellow sharpie.

Which lego hair piece best matches your real hair?
Borador replied to Bingo Little's topic in Community
Anakin's hair... Or Mutt Williams... Or the CMF surfer hair. Usually that same basic style. Except my hair is parted the other way. It always looks similar, but just a bit different. Very interesting topic, by the way. -
Well, Star Wars is ongoing (and will be for many years). They only reject projects that are part of ongoing licenses. If LotR ends, then LEGO might consider an Ideas project. I don't know. They haven't rejected anything in the past for being previously licensed. So maybe. Problem there is that it couldn't have any new molds. But if we got a nice Gondor set with white trees on the armor and Faramir, I'd be happy.

I've seen people use Jack Sparrow's head for Alfred. Wish I could give a name, but I don't remember who did it... Also, if you put brown hands on the 2014 Captain America, I think these legs would work well for his boots; http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=ava002

In this odd case, I find both sides are correct... Yes, it isn't right that LEGO is making it so hard for people to get their favorite characters. They shouldn't do that. Especially this way. They aren't even selling them. It's a raffle with long lines. The chances of getting one is so low. Yet, people should be rewarded for making that journey. That's a good practice. And I find the way they are doing is very effective. But you know? I can't help but wonder why they do this at all. And upon thinking about it... What if they couldn't put these characters in sets? I mean, look at the characters they did put in sets. So much Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, Iron Man, etc. Characters that everyone knows. With only a few exceptions, they've been very careful with this line. While fans may love these characters they make exclusive, it's possible that they didn't test well with LEGO's test groups. And so, knowing fans loved them, they released them in a way that didn't cost them anything, but put the figures in the hands of at least some fans. It may not be ideal, but I think I would take it over not having the character at all. So, pro or con? I find either way, it doesn't matter. LEGO is doing it. They MUST have some reason. Try and look at it from a different point of view. If the characters didn't test well, LEGO is being VERY generous with this. I don't know if that's the reason, but there has to be some reason.

I rather like Solo's new look. The Stormtrooper helmet is nice, but I really don't know why it needed changed. As for Rebels? I'll give it a chance. It doesn't sound too promising, but it looks worth looking at.

survey Picture versus Video Reviews
Borador replied to Bonaparte's topic in Forum Information and Help
Picture reviews for sure. I don't like Video Reviews at all. When I go into a review, I like to be able to see everything clearly and look at carefully to decide if it's any good. I like to zoom in and such. Can't do that with videos. Plus, I can't view them in quiet places without headphones. -
Ooh. Tough call... I imagine it'd loose clutch power fairly quickly... Can't be worse than Megabloks, though... Hmm.

I personally think the line is done. BUT! Five years ago, we we were sure we weren't getting this line at all. We did. We were sure of what we would get when it was announced. Balrog, Witch King, etc. We were wrong again. Now we're sure we won't get a third wave. Have we ever been right about this theme in the past? Yeah. It's over. But a little optimism never hurt anyone.
-
You're right. We aren't really beggars. What I meant was that after ten years of wishful pessimism, I was just saying that we should just be glad we got anything. For ten years it looked impossible, and then it happened. It was one in a million. We can voice our opinions. I never said we couldn't. What I mean is that if this is truly the end, we would be happier if we focused on what we did get and not what we didn't. Because it's clear we aren't getting any more. Enjoy what you have. If you feel something is missing you have every right, and are encouraged to say it. I just try to look on the bright side is all.

I'm not sure about how well it'd sell, but I really love the builds and figures. Very nice.

I don't know... Keeping The Hobbit as a building license and just doing LotR as a CMF series might work. But I just can't see them doing more than one series. Don't forget, doing licensed series takes away a spot for a normal one. So doing two would gut two normal ones. I don't think they'd do that. And just one series would only get us 16 characters. And there's nine in the Fellowship alone. So only seven spots. How many non-fellowship characters did we get in the sets? More than seven, if I recall correctly. And let's be realistic, based on the sets we've gotten, would those figures be what we all want? I doubt it. If they did two series, then maybe we could've gotten everything. But I just don't think LEGO would cut a big seller (CMF) for one apparently not selling so well (LotR) When I mentioned the chess set, I meant if it came out now. I really think that if it did come out, it would be more rehashes. But LEGO doesn't have the rights to that anyways. Sorry if I've brought anyone down. I want this to continue as much as anyone. But I just don't see it... So I'll just be happy with what we did get, and look forward to seeing how the AFOL community fills the gaps.

Honestly... I can't really see a CMF series selling well. Outside of LotR fans (and MAYBE Castle fans, but most of them don't like fleshies), most people would just be unhappy that it wasn't a normal series (like The Simpsons series). And then, what really would we get from it that we didn't get from the sets? One wave = 16 figures. Between LotR and the Hobbit... We may have gotten LESS! (Since I DOUBT we'd have gotten more than one wave. Two at the most.) As for the chess set? Same thing. The last Hobbit wave pretty much confirms it for me. LEGO has no interest in making anything other than what they have made. A chess set would just reuse whatever characters they already have. Has a chess set ever gotten any new molds or prints, anyways? At the end of the day, remember what it was like before we got this theme. I used to follow some Castle forums back then. They were convinced it would be amazing, but would never happen. They were certain. And they were sad. But look! It DID happen! For TEN YEARS we all "knew" it wouldn't, no matter how bad we wanted it. This line is an unlikely dream come true. I hate to be blunt, but beggars can't be choosers. I'm sure Brickforge and the like will fill the gaps that LEGO left. After all, that's what they did when we had NOTHING AT ALL. Now that we have SOMETHING, imagine what can be done! I have spoken.

"Printing" custom minifigure faces?
Borador replied to opn2's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
If possible, can you (or anyone) please confirm if he speaks English? I just figure it'd be weird if I sent him an e-mail and have him not understand. Thanks! -
Thats how I see it too. Everyone can spend their money however they want. I realize this is a hot topic, so I'm going to make this my final word here. I've stated my opinion, so I'll leave you all to discuss the bootlegs.
-
I like the Witch King set. Lake-Town set is a nice build. It would have been nice to get a few more characters, but I'm still happy with what we did get.
-
A little, but not much. Customizers use official LEGO parts (usually, anyways). Still profiting off someone else's IP. But I don't buy those either. I just make my own, which is perfectly legal, as I make no money.

Thanks Numbah1Nerd. Batman would have had his trademark cape, but I don't own one. Great job on Gordon and the Riddler, too! Another idea: maybe use Electro's body and legs for a Frost Giant? Maybe Mr. Freeze's head?
-
It wasn't these. It was Transformers bootlegs, I think. If I had to guess, I think it was on this very website that I saw it. I doubt anyone would get arrested, I was just stating that I had heard of it before. And that makes me very hesitant to buy them. So I don't.
