The 2.0 foot piece is okay, but the ankle is too far back, meaning that a relatively small foot ends up looking like a clown shoe.

Yes, we must have more recoloured parts! I want more Keetorange too.

Hell, I don't like using them with the shells. I'd also like the socket/old-style hand piece in different colours too. And some bulky chest armour.

I don't think anyone seriously wants to change the gender of any of the Mata. Changing an unimportant side-character, though? Maybe. Or hey, here's an idea, and what I think people would go for: Adding female characters instead of gender-bending male ones. At this point, I'm a little torn. I'd prefer a second team, if there is one, to be the Mahri. Jaller, Hahli, and Matoro are some of my favourite characters, and I still have my modified Jaller and Matoro around (Hahli broke. Stupid lime!). However, I'd also like to see a new team with more gender diversity. I don't think there should be three teams any time soon, that might be overkill, so it feels like a case of one or the other.

Thought of something else I want for New Bionicle: Different coloured torso bones. The two primary bones only come in black, meaning that any MOC you make with one is going to have to have a big, colour-scheme breaking lump of black in the middle of it. It looks just plain ugly, and we'd be better off if they made them in more varied colours. Knowing the shells' propensity for gappiness, we're going to be a bit lacking in covers on the back, which is going to leave a large chunk exposed.

Vastus' set was pretty bad too. You can make a backwards Inika torso look pretty good with the right pieces as armour, but an Inika thigh shell isn't one of them. Hordika feet work pretty well, and Metruan torsos work perfectly on a backwards Inika torso. He also had those horridly gappy Hordika shins, more lime, an awkward weapon, and a helmet that only looks good on green heads.

Yeah, I have to agree there. I followed the story in every way I could, but I didn't have the funds to buy the sets, and I just didn't care about most of the Glatorian.

I made a Tanma/Gavla ship once. I kinda still ship it. And I think there were a few mostly official ships, mainly Hewkii and Macku, and Jaller and Hahli (Seriously, did they share in scene in MoL without flirting?).

I have to say that the gender issue has bothered me a few times in the past. I built a black and lime female character once (Unfortunately, needing the parts for other MOCs and the ever-crumbling lime pieces meant that she's since been dismantled), and ended up thinking "What can I make her element?" One of the big problems, though, was that every single female tribe was freaking blue! Water, yes. Psionics, okay, maybe. Blue and gold was a cool colour scheme, I can see why they would want to use it again, and what other colour would you make them? Okay so it could've been any colour + gold, and maybe black + gold or red + gold would have looked better. But eh, blue and gold is as good as any. Lightning, though? Why? WHy is lightning white and blue? WHy not white and black? Or white and yellow? Or yellow and black? Why did they ahve to throw blue in? Because of their over-use of blue in female characters, if you make a female Toa/Matoran with any colour scheme other than blue, you end up with something that either doesn't fit into canon, or she has to be a disguised Av-Toa. Limiting creativity like that doesn't seem very LEGO-ish. But eh, from now on, if I want a female Toa of Fire, or Ice, or Air, then I'll build one.

The two supermarkets and single toy shop in my town don't have any HF at all. I've never seen a 2014 set in the flesh (Plastic?). Then again, that toy store did have Classics Mirage (from 2006), Movie Fracture (2007) and Universe Starscream (2008) among the Transformers on offer, alongside the standard shelfwarming Beast Hunters Arcee and Screamer, so they evidently don't get much in the way of new stuff. I'd need to get myself to the nearest city to scope out whether IFB is shelfwarming over there. HF seems to have made a similar faux pas to BIONICLE in 09. Both of them had an event occur that was a real game changer, and then decided to ignore it and do something else for at least two years. With BIONICLE, it was the Makutaverse twist, with HF, it was the Breakout. All these villains escape, and yes, the escapees who already had sets are all dealt with, but Nebula escapes and is putting together a "villain factory". Sounds interesting, we can get dark copies of the heroes, we can have something of an overarcing plot, Vonnie can get elbows... and then... "Hey guys, have some mind controlled animals and hero sets that look like downgrades, not to mention here's all that silver that you loved so much in BIONICLE's waning days!" ANd after that? Pacific Rim... with robots! Er, smaller robots. Smaller smaller robots. Robots in robots. Added that the Mechs look like a step down from what we got with Exo-Force, more like Baby's First Battlesuit than something that could actually kill a kaiju.... Hello? Von Nebula? Villain Factory? The plot? Any of those still kicking? Plus the budget evidently slipping away from HF... Put it this way, when I found out that the Stars were Bionicle's end, there was no larger wave to finish the story properly, no set forms for the MU Robot and the prototype, that was just it, I was shocked. If they announced that this was HF's last year, or they were going to do a sendoff wave next year, I wouldn't be surprised at all.

09 had the issue that it had too many large groups. Three of the canister sets were army builders, one of the small sets was, one of the "titans" was, and one of the serials had to be devoted to the actual main characters struggling to get by in the Makutaverse. The fact that Bara Magna itself wasn't a particularly interesting or immersive location didn't help, and in the end, was following up the Battle of Karda Nui, Mata Nui rising, and Teridax's "I am the ground you walk on" speech with "Forget that, here are some random powerless guys with exploding spudguns in a desert, enjoy" ever going to be a good story idea? Hell, Biosector01's icon for 09 is the Mask of Shadows, not a Thornax or anything BM-related. Yeah, if something like Reign of Shadows happens in Bionicle 2.0, let's hope the story stays focused on that.

They're about 30-40% organic, it's never been specified exactly what parts of them are organic or mechanical, aside from them not reproducing biologically, and even that's a 'rule' that a few fans ignore. Sorry, but people dismissing the Matoran race as just "robots" pisses me off. Especially because the universe does have actual robots, such as the Krahli, Vahki, and Maxilos robots, which are rather different from the Matoran as a whole. Regardless of the divisive reveal that the Matoran were never supposed to gain personalities in-universe, they aren't robots. Aaaaannyway... On the topic of Bionicle Spiders always lacking in the limb department (Visorak, Dagger Spider, Fenrakk, and now the Skull Spider), it's probably because getting enough connection points onto the body would leave it looking messy, and screw with the piece count.

I think a gender-balance would be good, but hell, if they think it's that worrying to have more female characters, then just give us one more per assortment. Even working off the hopefully-absent gender-locked tribes, getting a set of a Toa of Lightning, or Psionics, would be awesome. However, the removal of the gender-lock didn't work out that well in 2009. We find out that the tribes can be of any gender, and immediately, the Psionics and Water-coloured characters of Wave One were made male, and none of the other characters were made female instead. Hell, they even made fluff to make sure that the army-builder Skrall couldn't be female, and the Vorox and Zesk were so bestial that they barely counted as characters. It didn't help that Tarix and Berix were so designed that either of them could easily have represented a female character, Tarix having the most slender limbs possible, a Ce-Matoran colour scheme, and his chestplate was a piece that a great many MOCers used as a more conservative replacement for the "Nuvaboob" in female MOCs, while Berix had these for his legs, which are rather effeminate in comparison to the other Avatoran limbs. And let's not forget the backlash over Orde in 2010.

You can't really make the female characters less feminine than they already are. Seriously, they all look like men. How many of you thought Gali was a guy before you read some of the story material? Because I did. And Gali Mata is one of the most feminine-looking female characters in the whole line.

This. All of the this. It always bothered me when one of the tribes got slapped with a set gender. IIRC, the Av- and Kra-Matoran were the only ones with both genders within them. And what really didn't help was that all of the female exclusive elements got a blue colour scheme, limiting people even further. Want to make a female Toa? Well, she has to be blue. And because of that, you're likely to make her with a Faxon, because the noble Komau has silver on it, which might clash, and the other dark blue masks are all rather manly, or belong to Makuta. Males and females of all elements, please. Then again, if we can headcanon/fanon that Hewkii and Macku are still a thing (Probably Jaller and Hahli too), then we can headcanon/fanon gender diversity in tribes, right?

I think so, yes. The Makuta were definitely better, with their actual canister set bodies and limbs, which actually looked complete, and having actual masks, and the Toa... well, Lewa and Kopaka have designs that are actually reminiscent of their originals, Pohatu does too, aside from the mask, which itself is an excellent "Counts As" Vahi.=, and he had something that was reminiscent of a gear function. The Matoran connectivity helped greatly too, and while the Mistika could do that too, the colour coordination made it look better on the Phantoka. Also, more than one of them had an actual weapon instead of just a silly attachment for that year's guns.

Looking at that stuff... The set names, while likely accurate, are also rather Engrish-y. I think "Master" may end up being "Toa", and obviouslywe know that Lewa's element is air. If the "Defenders" are the villains, then I assume they'll probably be properly Anglicized to "Guardian" or something like that, perhaps as the main obstacles the Toa face to get into the villain's lair or something. I dunno. Our not-Visorak is most likely a Skull Spider. There have been sillier Rahi names, so I can deal with this. And I imagine the "Lord of Skull Spiders" would end up being the arc's big bad. Hopefully he gets a better name, though.

Are Inika builds really that awkwardly-proportioned?
Lord-Vorahk replied to Lord-Vorahk's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Before that, there was still some tolerance for stock, though. Now people seem to act like employing an Inika torso beam is some kind of cardinal sin, when really, it's a rather useful part as an upper torso piece, provided that it isn't the entire torso. My real beef with the "everything must be custom" mentality is that, while the better builders can make an aesthetically pleasing and complex MOC at the same time, the people who aren't so good end up with an ugly mess of technic beams with loose limbs, since these tend to get loose and worn much faster than the joints on a torso beam, at least, in my experience, and this is as someone who was using these as actual toys for playing with when he got them, as opposed to just building. The shoulder joints that came from my Jaller Inika should've had much more wear than the the ball from Toa Mata Nui's ankle, yet the latter is still sturdier. Considering that Toa have, barring the Metru, consistently been shown to be overly-broad shouldered with arms that aren't much shorter than their legs, not only since the first wave of sets, but also in the animated models where they could tweak the bodies to look however they like, I'm of the mentality that the Inika builds, barring the thin chest, aren't disproportionate to how a Toa should look. That's not to say that perfect humanoid proportions have no place in my mind, though. There are plenty of builds where a more humanoid build enhances the look of a MOC, and I'd prefer to think of both full stock and full custom as perfectly legitimate, as long as the character comes out looking like they fit in the universe they're meant to be a part of. Indeed, I myself have employed a fair few custom builds, and I generally go for a mix of custom and stock. But the topic was simply my reaction to the mentality that the later-generation Bionicle sets were badly proportioned because they didn't have human proportions, when that's something that Toa have never had. -
Are Inika builds really that awkwardly-proportioned?
Lord-Vorahk replied to Lord-Vorahk's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I think the faces were the worst part of the 06 sets for me. I was so glad they went back to proper masks in 07 and for Axonn and Brutaka (And Umbra, but who cares about him?), and I hated a lot of the Glatorian heads because of the exposed faces that so many of them had. I looked at most of the mocs that I've built, and they do have hands near the knees... but for some reason, it looks just fine to me. IDK why, but when I used these three parts or equivalent to give them shorter arms, they looked too short. Maybe it's because I watched the movies every weekend as a kid, because if you look at the movie models for the Toa Nuva and the Toa Metru, then you can quite plainly see that their hands are level with their knees. Considering this, and my favourite wave of sets (Mahri), as well as a lot of the MOCs kicking around before the "Everything must be perfectly humanoid, 100 custom and covered in System, because stock parts and especially Inika torso beams are the work of Mega Bloks skub" mentality came in in the original run's waning days, I suppose I'm used to the characters being long-armed. I don't think it's such a goof, really. I suppose it doesn't help that the HF sets took until Breakout to get consistently shorter arms than legs. -
Getting a set to look like that wouldn't be hard. If you were to use a similar torso design to Kiina, in particular, two of these, then add balljoints to the outermost holes, then you can use either of the two smallest bones as articulated shoulders.

Are Inika builds really that awkwardly-proportioned?
Lord-Vorahk replied to Lord-Vorahk's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Pretty good argument, I have to admit. I think Inika torsos can be made to look better simply by attaching the Metru hip beam a notch lower, like on Mata Nui and Ackar. While aiming for those proportions is good, I do have to point out that there are plenty of non-human characters that don't follow that ideal. I think the standout is probably one Mickey Mouse. Yeah, I hated that the lone female character was typically the manliest set in the wave. Hahli Inika had her slaphead and mustache, and the bulkier forearms. Hahli Mahri had the slightly-wider Piraka torso for some unfathomable reason, but was otherwise pretty good. Gali Mistika was bulkier than her wavemates and had a rather ugly mask. Kiina had her badly-designed arms and an exposed lantern jaw. Hell, it took Breeze until Brain Attack to get the narrower torso beam (Though I did like her Samus-esque bulk in Breakout). Gorast has the opposite problem: You'd expect her to be amazonian in build, but her limbs were as thin as the Mata, and she was completely lacking a chestplate. I've seen Metru torsos used as lower limbs. It looks pretty good. -

Lord-Vorahk replied to Lord-Vorahk's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Apish arms like the Matoran had every year barring 04? And the Toa had every year barring in 04? That are pretty much normal? The torsos aren't all that thin, I think the problem is that the shoulders are XBOXHUEG. If they were thinner, then it wouldn't look so bad. The neck thing, I'll agree with, but the subsequent reworkings of the build, (Mahri) fixed this problem. The feet are something that I don't mind. I like stability, and a large foot often helps. The arms are shorter than the legs. I actually prefer the style of the Mahri to the Mata. -
