What do you do with your LEGO Boxes
Giantorange replied to TheLunabrick's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Flatten them and stick them in the loft at the moment. Some get chopped up to use as drawer dividers for my Bricklink stock. I did have an idea of decorating the attic (building room) with all the front panels / alternate build pics stuck over the insulation. But life's too short and I expect I won't get round to it. -
Which factory did your LEGO set come from?
Giantorange replied to Pchan1983's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I suspect it's the other way around unless they base their accounting callendar on a martian solar cycle :) having a CMF with 616B6 in front of me I would guess 6th day, 16th week. -
How common are missing pieces?
Giantorange replied to Joseph Barker's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have had one set from LEGO with missing pieces out of probable 350 over 35 + years which is pretty good going. Unfortunately not been so lucky from eBay. I would say that 95% of the sets I have bought as used, comlplete don't match the inventory to some degree. -

Are the Legoland shops open when the park is closed?
Giantorange replied to Horse25's topic in Community
On a similar note, I assume you can't just go to the shop without paying to get into the park. (Windsor specifically) -
Question for you Bricklink sellers, specifically UK. Who has registered with HMRC? If you did, at what point did you do it, if you didn't, why not?

Remember kids, video games don't make people violent. Lag makes people violent.

Will Blu Tack/sticky tack stain LEGO?
Giantorange replied to AmperZand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Sometime between a few month and a few year. Just used washing up liquid on a damp, soft cloth and the grease came straight off. -
Will Blu Tack/sticky tack stain LEGO?
Giantorange replied to AmperZand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It will leave a sticky mark. But it's easy to clean off, not really any different to handling parts with your fingers and getting the oils off your skin on them. -
So last weekend I went to visit the family. Mum had rung to say she had got my younger sister's lego out from the loft and was separating it out into sets for the grandchildren (my neices) to build. She was missing a few pieces and had asked me to bring my 'spares box' to help her out. Spent a happy afternoon sorting out a bunch of classic castle. Get to Black Falcon's Fortress, and I manage to find enough black slopes to finish the rear section, then mention that I won't have the 2x2 flag as that is a rare piece. She then says "don't worry, there will be one in this:" and pulls out a MISB 6074, and then a 6067 for good measure. Absolutely pristine, still sealed, boxes in perfect condition. After I had finished picking my jaw up from the floor she explained that she had bought the of each, one for each of us, but by the time my youngest sister was old enough to make the set, I was in my dark ages, and she was playing with my stuff so the last sets had stayed in the loft for the last 25 years unopened. She had no idea how collectible they were, and nearly had a fit when I showed her the Bricklink entries for the sets. Her opinion is that the toys at her house are for playing with, and she is perfectly happy for the girls to open and build the sets as that's what she bought them for not for an investment. I must admit I agree with her. I am more than slightly jealous that I don't have the MISB sets for myself, but if I did, I'm fairly sure I would open them and build them for the pleasure of doing it again as an AFOL. I would hesitate slightly at the thought of several hundred pounds evaporating as I opened the box when there are repairs to the house needing doing, but for me, the fun of LEGO is in the building, not owning the sets as such. So, what would you have done with such a find? sell them on, let the girls make them up and enjoy them, toothmarks and all, or keep them safe in the boxes?

brickfilm Harry Potter Brickfilm - Harry's visit to Ollivander
Giantorange replied to Geertos13's topic in Brick Flicks & Comics
This is good. Really, really good. The LEGO is great of course; the timing is excellent and the effects and voice actors really make it shine. Well done.- 8 replies

Staff views on knock-off discussion and promotion
Giantorange replied to Sven F's topic in Forum Information and Help
I wish this forum had a 'like button' Just to add my 2p worth. I believe TLG is very lucky not to have a lot of genuine scale competition. They have a clear market and are able to make good margins from a quality product. I would be happier if other firms produced something similar to improve competition and drive prices down. -
Sometimes you don't have the choice but to open the cloak packs, as they can have more than one in, so needs to be opened to split the figs.
-
Great stuff, good work on the figs, Asterix and Obelix were instantly recognisable.

I don't think you are asking the right questions. As a classic castle builder, I had no expectations that Nexo would fulfill my needs, and therefore I'm not Sorely dissappointed. I have bought a few of the smaller sets, mainly for some of the figs, and trans pieces. But I could say the same for some technic or town sets. I have got them to cover a specific need to some parts. Not because they are in themselves what I want from a castle set. If there was a wave along the lines of Vikings, with a strong historical side, or Fantasy (trolls v dwarves), or any medieval theme largely based on structures rather than wheeled machines and catapults. I would probably buy most if not all of it.

Should lego make army theme or not?
Giantorange replied to Peter22's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I really like LEGO's stance on military sets. There's plenty to build without it. However, I do think they made a mistake when switching from the megaphone piece, to more realistic looking guns. To me LEGO is a toy not a model, my challenge as a builder is to imitate real life within the constraints of the available brick. I like the idea of a 'blaster' that I can use as a megaphone, or street light, or torch, or greeble, much better than a gun that is just a gun. -
What was the last movie you watched?
Giantorange replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Cannonball run. Refreshingly un-PC -
450 plus a box of legs and arms. Mostly classic castle.

If we had likes on the forum I'd 'like' this just for the pun in the title. Good job on the model as well though :D

Packing my Minifig collection for a move
Giantorange replied to Mercury's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Box file with a layer of bubble wrap on bottom. then a layer of minifigs with a bit of space between each. Then another layer of bubble wrap, then 2nd layer of figs so that they are in the gaps of the layer underneath. Third layer of bubble wrap on top. Use screwed up newspaper to pad the box out if its not quite full. -
Well, my wife will finally find out how much I have and how much I've spent on it. At which point she will kill me...

Whitish plaque on bricks - how to clean
Giantorange replied to merman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Might sound strange, but have you tried toothbrush and toothpaste - it's a VERY mild abrasive. -
Do you know how many LEGO do you have?
Giantorange replied to SrChuck's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Aprox. 30k parts and 400 figs here. Probably split about 70/30 between sets and loose stuff. -
Yes the Antarctic missions are fascinating, it's just so isolated. Still waiting for Cthulhu to turn up though.
