  1. Read Robin hobb :)
  2. A couple of months back I bought MF and Rey's speeder in my local Argos. The cashier gave me 'the look' so I got ready to come back with 'it's a birthday present for my nephew', but she just smiled and said 'you're going to love building this its awesome'. Which was a pleasant surprise.
  3. As a modular fan, this is about as good as it gets: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35717932
  4. I like it a lot. It reminds me of Gary Chalk's artwork illustrating Warhammer battles back in the early days of Games Workshop.
  5. I was surprised that they had so much time devoted to the customer call centre. It's good to know that they can handle huge volumes of calls, but it came across to me as just highlighting how many people are dissatisfied with the product/service. Also filming someone taking a hacksaw to lego, *cringe*.
  6. Could be this: http://brickset.com/sets/6609-1/Race-Car
  7. Yes, I'd be concerned my fingers would get bloody freezing when building / sorting. Get one of these. https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=greenhouse+heater
  8. The kids all love it, my nieces can't wait to get into the attic to look at stuff and try and spot the new additions. Then try and add / modify things while I try and suppress the lord business alter ego. My brother in law loves it, given time and space at his place I think he would love to have some of his own. My wife hates it, but tolerates it. I only spend my own money on it and keep it out of her way. We had an electrician round recently and she said 'sorry about this, my husband doesn'nt know it's time to grow up' and the plumper turned round to his team and said "guys get up here and check this out, it's fantastic, this guys got the whole f****ing lego movie up here, look at those guys; I remember that from when I was a kid." I really think people are split between those who are embarassed by it in adults and just look at it as a child's plaything, those who are secretly embarassed about liking it and wished they could play with it without ruining their image, and those who embrace their inner child and go with it. I really think that the second category is larger than people would like to admit. There are so many people who grew up with lego, and the current trend of movie tie-ins just add to the nostalgic influences of it. I must admit to being slightly embarassed in my local Argos dropping £150+ on my latest purchase. Ready to drip the "it's for my son" line, when the (young and attractive) cashier turned round and said "that new Millenium Falcon looks amazing, have fun building that one. Cue secret glow of manly satisfaction.
  9. Rey's speeder and Falcon for me. I missed the last falcon, and may well mod the radar dish back to EpIV style. I'll hold fire on the others until I've seen the film at least.
  10. Personally, I don't think stifling submissions is a good idea. I do think rather that there should be more hurdles in regards to getting a certain number of votes in time scales to keep your submission online. If you haven't got 100 votes within a very short time, you aren't likely to get anywhere near 10K votes. There are dozens if not hundreds of sets sat at 4 or 5 votes for months that you just click past when browsing the site. I also don't agree with extending the time limits for getting votes, or encouraging re-submission.
  11. Tesco currently has Simpsons CMF at 3 for 2.
  12. Space scooter for me, I remember winning it in a raffle at my nursery school Xmas fete when I was 4. I remember having Bull's Attack Cart and the dragonrider set from the same series. What really brought me out of the dark ages was my little sister buying me the first Lego Star Wars PC game, Giving me a double nerd attack. It's all been downhill from there really. Fortunately my wife won't go in the loft in the new house, as there are too many spiders, so she can't see how much I actually have.
  13. Gelatinous cube next?
  14. I don't think I've ever bought a second hand set that included the original spare parts. I've generally found ebay sellers reliable when describing sets as complete. Only once I had a problem with a 6080 when some minifigs were incorrect, and some bricks were missing or substituted with other colours. I had an argument which I gave up on with the seller as his opinion was that if the set could be built. Colour didn't matter.
  15. Always tip all the bags in together. I do pick all the minifig parts and accessories out before I start the build though. I fairly regularly rebuild random sets from the collection by dismantly, shuffling all the parts around and rebuilding for the fun of it. Going to do 6080 again later on today.
  16. When we bought our latest house, I found a minifig and an obviously small-child-built car in the loft. I took it as a sign the house would be a good one.
  17. I am hugely torn between a collector and a builder. I spend half my time in a strange OCD fear that I will need parts to build a set from an old collection that are in a diorama. To appease this I came up with the solution that all minifigs that belong in sets are left handed. All others are right handed, this lets me see at a glance which ones are "allowed" to be dismantled or rebuilt.
  18. I wouldn't mind movable legs on the Dwarf/kids minifigs, but other than that I like them as they are.
  19. This is great, lovely proportions and the head is very realistic.
  20. More specifically pre nationalisation had the Fat Director, all after 1948 had The Fat Controller.
  21. If you get a latex tube, you can get them in blue, green or grey.
  22. Oh, one thing I didn't mention, the only think I REALLY didn't like about the previous Viking range is varying clutch power. Particularly the horn-helmet interface and even more the helmet-head interface. Really bugs me that the pieces don't fit as well on some 'modern' moulds as well-played with figs I have from 30+ years ago. /end rant
  23. Definately would like them back. Not too keen on any more catapults or dragons though, I have plenty of those. I wouldn't mind seeing a Narwhal or a World Serpent (brick built - I'm not a massive fan of large moulded monsters). Or a log cabin, a fishing scene would be good. How about Loki v Thor (not Marvel style). A bearded Viking with warhammer and lightning pieces could look great.
