Battle of The Planets, right? Now there is a Lego set I would buy instantly.

Thank you again. Your enthusiasm is keeping me going! Thanks! Hipgnosis came up with so many iconic images, didn't they? (I know they didn't do ever cover). Originally I didn't plan to do more than just The Division Bell, having briefly tinkered with both it and Animals years ago. But...now that I am on a roll...well...I believe there are eight studio albums left. It depends how my stamina holds out. Next one is started. A man is on fire...

Number 7: The Dark Side of The Moon I used a bit of a filter on this one to try and darken it. I read somewhere that fashionable people have stopped buying black dogs because it is difficult to photograph them well for Instagram. Same goes for black Lego! No trickery here (different source photo). No trickery here apart from flipping and copying. And two wider views.

Well, I think he was wrong there. It's a great cover and it really suits the music which has an 'underwater' feeling. I suppose artists are never happy with the finished work. Nice. Is that a scene from The Wall film? I've never seen it!

In case anyone ever reads this, and wonders what that green and brown 'thing' is meant to be, here are two images of the original Meddle album cover that I found, with varying colour quality. To do mine, I took my copy of the Mind Over Matter book and built a mosaic on top of the image (seen here beside it). Then I photographed the mosaic from a couple of metres away to blur the image and applied a turquoise filter using an app.

Hi @Henk61 thanks for the encouragement and the tips! In the end I decided this would be the next one. I had to go quite far 'off piste' to achieve it. Number 6: Meddle

Weird and beautiful.

Number 5: Animals This was really an evocative model to build. The cover artwork of Animals is such a beautiful image of such a grim industrial scene, enriched by the Art Deco style of the Battersea Power Station. In the first instance it always makes me think of the industry of a bygone age, the 1920s/30s. But It also conjours up the unrest and decay of the 1970s, which is itself a bygone age now. Thirdly it always makes me think of contemporary London, a place you could explore indefinitely, and where I would always keep my eyes open in case I caught a glimpse of the Power Station in the distance.

@Henk61 I'm working backwards now chronologically (more or less). The cover that worries me is Meddle. A helpful (!) family member asked me how I was going to make that. On the other hand, moving forward, we would have The Endless River. I'm not sure of the artistic merits of that design...but should be quite possible to make in Lego.

This is an interesting point. I am very much not in favour of the fetishisation of war in real life, but somehow I never had a problem with war in Star Wars. I suppose because there was always plenty of humour and personal interaction mixed into the stories, and also the military were a bit hopeless (Stormtroopers can't shoot straight, Star Destroyers crash into each other and so on and so forth). But that is perhaps one of the reasons why Rogue One is my least favourite Star Wars films, because it is tending towards just being a war film. And for me, Star Wars must always be leavened with Ewoks and Gungans and jokes to avoid going down that path to the (military) dark side...

Retro always gives excellent advice. On a range of topics.

This one's a bit more pink ('Which one's Pink?' and all that!). I think the original Hipgnosis photograph is more dark and purple, but some of the copies of the album had a much paler pink version, maybe just due to a dodgy printing process. I'm off to try and figure out how to build a cow now...

They should get presents that cost the same amount and unless it has to be a secret, I would involve them in the process of what things cost. It's fine for one to get the Ghostbusters car and one to get a larger police set. The Ghostbusters car is a 'luxury', premium object, but it has enough in it, including the figs, to be a good set. They should understand that some things in life cost more than others. Now if one of them wanted to spend all 70 on a single, rare minifigure, and that's all they would have to open on Christmas Day, that's when I would step in and explain that's not a wise use of your Christmas present.

Galaxy Squad was really cute! I think Disney and Lego are both in a bit of a bind about Star Wars, of which I am a big fan. It is such a huge machine now, and I think they are discovering that 'the centre cannot hold'. They have to somehow appeal to; - fans (now adults) of the original trilogy who want grittier, more grown up films/tv without the jokes and the gungans and without character development -fans (now adults) of the prequels who want films/tv featuring clone wars period Jedi, starships and, eh, clones -children, who would want something light, with colour and friendships like the Clone Wars or Ninjago tv shows - the general cinema-going public. You'll probably get better numbers for a sugar rush thing like Infinity War, but better reviews (like it or lump it) for TLJ The current result of this is a lot of boring Star Wars sets on the shelves. But if I were a Lego executive, would I commission a new, in-house space theme to compete against it?

It all depends on your perspective...maybe he's a wild skunk that's about to bite the man on the leg? But, no, you're actually right. He's a pet skunk, and his name is Sidney.

I built this a while ago as a sort of challenge to myself to see if I could build a modular type building from scratch. I borrowed liberally from the Assembly Square instructions online, as you can see, but sort of made up the colour scheme according to the bricks I had available.

I don't think I've ever seen Jurasssic Park (or read the book), but these are totally brilliant. I love the sick triceratops in number 7! He really doesnt look well. Number 17 is my favourite. The dinosaur is so cute (and scary) and the poses of the minifigures' legs are great. It looks like a mash up between Aliens and the Parisian Restaurant.

Well done! Love the laser blast thingy. Two more challenges, if you ever feel up to it. If you ever have the parts, in theory I would use grey or dark computer panels because the scene is inherently dark and medievel (with technology). The white computer is maybe more suited to the Ice Planet colour palette. That is a council of perfection though. I love the fact that you've added a fight. Since it is a battle or attack, it would be nice to add some movement to the people. Maybe by having one of them perched higher on transparent bricks, having one of them leaning backwards etc. Also, I always remember rule one of theatre. Never turn your back on the audience. If you Google 'proctor black knight' for example you will see that the very first picture shows both their faces side by side as they fight. That is of course a bit unlike the real world, where people go face to face, but the Marvel artist understood that people want to see both combatants faces to empathise with them. Not so easy to do in Lego I know!

I'm probably not qualified, but here are my thoughts anyway. Nice scene. This is Dane Whitman, the Marvel Black Knight, yes? Nice figure, nice dark grey colours/lighting in the photo. I love the legs on top on the wall! Some suggestions; - I agree with deraven that the floor is a bit rubbly at that scale. It would blend into a pattern over a larger scene but on such a small one I might make it out of neat 1x1 tiles or 2×2 tiles. But great experiment with the floor techniques you've used anyway. -Sometimes it looks more 'artistic' to photograph something like this at 45 degrees rather than straight on. - Since it's Marvel , and not straight 'castle', you could consider adding some 'fantastic' touch like a computer panel or cosmic ray or something. - it's a small scene but you might consider adding one or two more things to interest the eye. Maybe increase the wall height for a more 'massive' gothic feel, or add a second wall or even an ornate chair or suit of armour in the recess under the arch. - The spiders are cute but if you're going for the full AFOL look, they maybe look a bit 'junior's'... Great work, anyway.

@Henk61 I'm glad you liked the model! Thanks for the tip about the release of historic recordings. I have finally changed from buying physical discs to using Spotify, so I will check the music out if any of it appears there.

This is beautiful. Cool, calm, functional. I love the classic Lego feel. Nice weigh station. I like the contrast between the industrial elements and the (cute) guard dog and the flower bed. Glad to see the employees are wearing hard hats. I'm off now to read EN 206.
