  1. I think a cool building would be a newspaper printer. One floor could be a big printing press/conveyor belt just popping out copies of the LEGO News.
  2. I always wonder am I the only one who doesn't bother connecting the modulars using the technic pieces? Seems useless and just more work when I want to take one out.
  3. The research institue sold out so it really couldn't do any better.
  4. Oh there was an interesting issue with my second DO- It was short one 2x1 "brick" brick and had one extra 2x1 of the brown vertical/horizontal profile bricks so I used that in place of one of the 2x1s you don't really see. For me it was the first time an official LEGO set was missing anything noticeable. My guess is a weight sensor didn't indicate a problem since the extra nearly identical brick was there.
  5. Edit- Close up of the changes I made to the roof with some extra pieces from a second DO. Lounge chair for lady in red, extra lights, second sun roof for taller building, second water tank, satellite dish in place of "POOL" sign for top floor, several miscellaneous changes.
  6. Funny, I just finished mine. (Expanded DO with extra floor) I kept Ace Brickman's office on the second floor. I also put a second printed window on the back so I could use the clear window on the top floor. I also didn't include the paint roller lights on the top floor, I put in those technic pieces that become a stud and built a little something off it. ((a 6 sted piece fits across the two holes where the lights were.)
  7. Looks good- honestly haven't had my fire trick out of the FIre Brigade in so long that I don't remember what it looks like. I know early on I tried to replace it with a city fire truck which ended up not fitting.
  8. Well if those numbers are right my scale is way off- but relative to the other sets it was still right.
  9. What has been bothering the Engineer in me is that the water tower is on the lower roof. It really needs to be on the highest point else the top floor of the blue building would have no water.
  10. Measured weights with kitchen scale (American so in Pounds & Ounces) DO - 4 lbs 4 oz PR - 4 lbs 2 oz Pet Shop House - 2 lbs 6 oz Pet Shop Shop - 2 lbs 7 oz PS (total) - 4 lbs 13 oz These weights were with all the mini figures included in the set but for the PR not with the scooter
  11. Nothing would prevent LEGO from talking to the original designer before it hit 10,000 supporters and having them sign some sort of non-disclosure-agreement not to talk about it until after it is officially announced. LEGO is free to ignore the 10,000 vote requirement if they wanted. LEGO may even have made a private agreement and the set will not be under the Ideas label. Unlikely, but not impossible.
  12. The Piano looks great but there is no chance I would ever buy one. Of the list the only ones I might ever buy would be the marble maze, Jurassic Park, and my favorite, the Natural History Museum which I would absolutely buy.
  13. I wouldn't mind a modular of a different height, but it needs to be wide enough, the pet shop/townhouse are OK but any slimmer is too slim. A 3 story and a 2 story 50/50 split or even a 4 story/1 story split would be fine with me, but make it at least 16 studs wide each and make it as deep as possible- I don't need nor was 8 empty studs in back.
  14. Turns out I just had to push them in further. FInished it... wishes there was another mini-fig or two. Will add an extra level when the set I ordered comes in. Overall feeling is what there is, is good, just wish there was more of it.
  15. FInished the 2nd level (Bag 3) - taking a break - will finish up Bag 4 tonight. Things I've noticed/done: 1) The paint roller lights look nice but fall right out of the holes if you tilt the floor the wrong way - may end up replacing them with more traditional lights. 2) Clear window right into the toilet- isn't this for kids? 3) Used extra 1x1 black tiles to finish unfinished column in the detective's office between the front windows,. 4) Used extra green flower and 2 left over 1x1 round red plates to look like flowers on top of the grey bin between the windows in the detective's office (the one with the briefcase and money in it) rather than seeing 2 unused grey studs. 5) With leftover plant stem and 3 various color flowers planted a flower behind the right most window on the ground in the back. I really like the drop down fire-escape ladder.
  16. Could not care less about the storyline... while building the first level I was wondering how many pieces may have been saved without having the hidden compartments that could have gone to making the room two studs deeper. Would strongly suggest those with big hands place the minifigs before the walls get too high. I put the cop woman in the barber chair and Al on the studs right next to the door. When building the pool hall the minifig for the dart player and pool player are actually part of the instructions, but not so for the barber shop half.
  17. I built the first level (bags 1 ad 2) yesterday, hopefully will finish it today. Unfortunately the small size has already become apparent- I couldn't fit my hand into Al's barbershop to place the minifigs- couldn't reach the barber chair nor even the studs on the floor to just place Al in there. Was very disappointing. Not designed for adult hands. Frustrating. (and yes I had the steps moved out of the way and even the lights taken off the wall.)
  18. I originally thought the Birds was set a bit high (lets face it, all LEGO is more expensive then it needs to be) but once I built it the size of the birds were much bigger than I was picturing. I think the price is about right for what you get. Minifig for scale (sorry for being OT)
  19. I see the order details but I'm not seeing any additional links.
  20. Well the one I ordered yesterday morning when it still said "Out of Stock - Shipping in 30 days" just shipped. It's weird because I placed 2 orders and never got email confirmation for this one. The one I did get email confirmation of is still listed in Warehouse. Not wanting to risk it really taking 30 days or selling out, I bought one at a LEGO Store (had to send someone to get it) so looks like I'll have two. Does anyone have the link in the email that was being sent to people who purchased the DO online? I never got that email, would be curious if I could see the link directly?
  21. Cancelled by LEGO or you?
  22. The Slave is $40 more expensive, I hope it is bigger.
  23. They already have (had?) an official McDonalds- http://brickset.com/sets/3438-1 Thanks!
  24. They are available on BrickLink, not sure how long it has been since they were used - http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=2039
  25. Weird, I never got confirmation from the DO online order... if it does come through then I'll have two- if it doesn't- no big deal.
