  1. I was having trouble changing order statuses the other day on Chrome, I ended up having to use Firefox for it to work. It had worked on Chrome before- maybe they were making changes.
  2. Best get it before TLG's lawyers shut that down. The red box above the word "Spaceman" will run afoul of their trademark if nothing else.
  3. Looked up what Bionicles were- not for me.
  4. Awesome, thanks... Some great pics on that board. For the person who wanted it from the bottom, up- Also changes the base plate color to tan and finally got the light grey arches for the bottom of the buildings. The very light grey 8x8 baseplates were like $30 each on Bricklink... must be a rare part. Still waiting on proper 1x4x1 fences for the roofs. Also waiting on the proper metallic sphere, put in something for now but it's not right.
  5. I'll work on that. :) Been playing with the design a bit... changes to Building 3, as well as the overall shape of the base- make it look more like the property it was located on...
  6. It's true - the build is somewhat repetitive but not all that bad since it isn't all that big. I recently did a Big Ben by WANGE (not LEGO) and while it looks great it felt far more repetitive than this. Waiting on a few more pieces and I'll take and post new pictures of th real brick version.
  7. Thanks all... I received most of the pieces, enough to build the towers themselves, though missing the grey arches, had to use white for now, also not enough grey 1x1s, also used some white. However good experience. Found building the levels 6 high and trying to put a plate across is bad. Building 3 up and then 3 down from the plate on top is much easier. Also going to put some reinforcement behind the walls.
  8. Thanks- going to check that out.
  9. Growing up in New York City in the 80's and 90's the Twin Towers were buildings you thought would always be there. No matter how old I might get I always imagined I would still be able to see them standing in the distance- when no other buildings are tall enough to be seen, even from the far end of Brooklyn, We all know that was not to be. It has been some time now since they are gone- and I still miss them. This set was my small way of bringing back a part of what I miss. Please take a look and support it if you like it. I have the pieces to build it on order, hope to be able to take real pictures by next weekend. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/79596 Some pictures:
  10. Do you remember the name of the book you bought that came with the gears? Welcome!
  11. I must be an idiot... I have never used Bricklink before- but I finally made a MOC in LDD I want to really build and I don't have enough of the pieces in my collection- it requires a great deal of 1 x 2 Profile Bricks First... the color in LDD is Medium Stone Grey. Go to Bricklink search... Light Grey... Dark Grey... every other color I can imagine, but no Medium Grey, Medium Stone Grey, Stone Grey, or even just Grey... What am I missing? So ignoring the color I put profile into the advanced search, and can't find any of this shaped brick, all I find are these brick-pattern bricks. I feel like I must be missing something major but I don't know what it is? Edit - Found out Medium Stone Grey is referred to as Light Bluish Grey... Why? Who knows.. Edit 2 - OK, had more success searching with the part number- 2877... My first order is now in. ;)
  12. I never care that designs are only in LDD. Not everyone can afford the bricks needed to make the ideas they have. I just want good pictures from all angles. Not a fan of the junky LDD backgriounds 99% of the time. Just use plain white or put something relevant back there.
  13. Way back in the early/mid 90's I was in Jr. High School and brought a Lego Ghost into school and I got made fun of for still playing with Lego, so it wasn't long before I stopped- and I had a basement with a giant custom made table dedicated to my Lego "city" which was made up of sets from all the various themes- space, vikings, castle, pirate, whatever there was, I had them all. Also the Monorail and train setup. A few years later I tried to get my younger cousin into Lego by giving him all my old ones... We had a little fun playing with them a few times but he was never as into Lego as I was. That was pretty much it- I hadn't really touched a Lego until late last year when my sister bought me a small set for Christmas- Red Rotors - 31003. That was all it took... Right after Christmas I ordered the Architecture Empire State Building and the big Space Shuttle - 10231. Since then I've purchased about 30 various Lego and non-Lego brick sets and don't expect to slow down. Some sets are small mind you. $15 or $20... not all are huge. Most fun has been the Creator sets.
  14. Might be something that could be made with a 3D printer and clear filament... I bet more people have (or will soon have) access to 3D printers than laser cutting machines. 3D printers are going to be a game changer...
  15. Thanks for the heads up. Do you think it is safe to wait until October to get the points? I don't want to miss it.
  16. Thanks all... Had my eye on Pet Shop but Grand Emporium sounds like a good start... It's out of stock on Lego.com- expected ship date isn't until end of the month- I don't want to lose it, maybe i'll order it now... with some luck I might buy Pet Shop later but put it together first. I wish I was in time for Fire Brigade... seeing prices around $300 new and $250 used. :(
  17. I've been building all kinds of Lego (and Lego-compatible) brick sets this year, the space shuttle, some architecture sets, a number of creator and town planes, monuments (by other brands), the BTTF Car and Ecto 1, and some big Technic sets. I have never done any of the Creator Modular sets- wondering if anyone has an opinion on the best one to start with? To be clear, I'm asking what is the best Modular Building available on the market to start with- this isn't for a MOC.

  19. BricTek/WOMA even does one thing a little better than Lego - in the instructions they put the stud count next to long bricks... No more having to count if you're looking at a 2x8 or a 2x10, it says so right next to the part.
  20. I've loved Lego Ideas when I first found it earlier this year... Now I have become cynical and jaded. It's all about marketing, not ideas, not quality. So many great sets have just a hundred or two hundred votes even months in, they'll never make it. So much time/space is wasted by complete garbage sets... Then of the ones that actually make it to 10,000 - so many get turned down and the dumbest ones get approved- quality is not the deciding factor. I used to support so many projects- now I don't waste my time- no point in taking the time out of my day to support a project that will never make it past 500 votes. Unless the thing has 100+ votes in the first day or two, it is doomed. To hit 10,000 votes in a year you need 28 a day, every day, 7 days a week, all year long. Any day you go without at least 28 votes makes it less and less likely you'll make it. I wish a set had to be deemed somewhat worthy by Lego first before even being put up for consideration. There also needs to be a fast track for amazing projects.
  21. Wish Kre-O would come out with some Star Trek sets that rival the quality of Lego Star Wars, I would buy them in a minute. I can't get over how junky the Kre-O USS Enterprise looks.
  22. My only two Wange sets (Eiffel Tower and Big Ben) were excellent sets. Bricks quality was as good as any Lego clone brand I've tried, better than most in fact. Will keep an eye out for more interesting sets.
  23. I was in a similar situation in college for a piece I desperately needed for an Engineering project. Most of the item (that had the barcode) was gone. All I needed was a cheap plastic cover. No one in the store was authorized to give it to me nor could they sell it without a bar code... It was an hour of wasted time. I ended up buying something that I figured had a pretty high mark-up and walked out the door with it fully visible in my cart- no one cared.
  24. When I ordered today I had both the Chima and Space Man freebies added automatically to the order (which was the $99 mini.)
  25. Funny this topic got bumped- I recently bought two sets from WANGE. They were available on Amazon.com. A 2 foot+ tall Eiffel Tower and Big Ben. I finished the Eiffel Tower and am 90% through Big Ben, both have been awesome. Brick quality very good for both. Big Ben isn't quite as fun as the Eiffel Tower as it is a lot of building the same steps over and over again, but for about $50 US each the price was great for their size.
