  1. I am personally really really hoping it is Pythor (one of my favourite characters actually), and if it is, I'm buying the book for sure. If it's anyone else, I'll be more "meh, I'll pick it up later when the price drops a little". I'll be watching out for any book related announcements with enthusiasm.
  2. Thanks for your input Si-MOCs. I know people add to a lot of groups, and I've been slowly joining more and more that focus on subjects I occassionally visit, like cars or sci-fi (and based on my Balrog, maybe an LOTR group even though that's probably the only LOTR related MOC I'll ever do). Problem is, when you're such a varied builder, you can never decide what groups to join! I've been trying to follow more people too, but you know, I don't want to follow for the sake of following. But anyway, I should say that some of the advice I've been given here has already worked a treat. It used to take me forever to get a few faves, now it takes maybe an hour or two I'm still open to suggestions as to what groups I could potentially join based on anything in my stream though
  3. Kragle? I'd never ever use such a frowned upon thing on my LEGO, so no need to worry about that appearing in my entries. I'm not Lord Business you know Anyway, I have my first entry up already!
  4. For my first entry, I wanted to try and stray away from the typical "turtles have to be round" mantra, so here's something a little different: the Chemical Lab Assistant Turtle LEGO MOC - Chemical Lab Assistant Turtle 1 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr The Chemical Lab Assistant Turtle is an unusual robotic turtle that can be equipped with a variety of external tools. Here, it's equipped with some grabber arms. It's primary function is to assist researchers in space in analysing rocks and chemicals collected during expeditions, but it is also called out often to help with sample collecting in locations where space researchers can't go, such as maybe an area of cave 10 miles below a planet's surface. Here's another photo that shows the arms detached from the turtle, but the main image (the one in this post) is with arms.
  5. Well, to be fair, I tend to take beasts like Waspix (and at a stretch, Dragon Bolt, or at least her species) as being of no specific gender (though I can understand Waspix beasts being potentially all or mostly female, since if they were in a hive system based on wasps, ants etc, most would be female anyway), except Queen Beast, who is identified as female in the name, and her role can really only be fulfilled if she was female. And with Bionicle, I take the genders stated for official sets as is (so, Tahu is male, Gali is female etc.), but if I'm doing an MOC, it's whatever gender I fancy. If I want a female Toa of Stone, then I build a female Toa of Stone
  6. This might be a silly question but... is it legal building techniques only? Or can we use illegal techniques? Not that it matters too much to me, but might be useful to know But what a cool contest and a great excuse for me to try building something out of random small parts normally found on my desk. I have a ton of ideas for turtles right now, now to build them!
  7. Of course! How on earth could I forget her? Well, to be fair, I'd only been out of bed for about 2 minutes when I wrote that, which is probably why I'd forgot
  8. Is this the right time for me to point out that I'm one of those few female fans of Bionicle? And honestly, back then, I was quite happy they even included females, and the fact that they usually made them blue, normally the colour most stereotypically associated with males (and my favourite colour may I add). Then again I've mostly been interested in typically male or unisex hobbies anyway. I wouldn't mind seeing more females, but honestly, I don't think we're going to see more than Gali and MAYBE a villain to represent the females. I mean, even Hero Factory only had Breez on the female side of things (can't recall any female HF villains right now). Anyway, I'm just leaving this post as food for thought, I'm not going to argue about the matter of the gender divide
  9. Here's one of my MOC's inspired by the music I love. Meet Thrash Linkin'... LEGO Hero Factory MOC - Thrash Linkin' 4 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr What inspired this MOC was the artwork to Linkin Park's album "Living Things" (an album I've been binge listening to recently), which, if you haven't seen it, depicts a fragmentary human shaped abstract, and I decided to capture the essence of the artwork in an action figure, which explains why the head appears to be a very odd shape. As a result, Thrash Linkin' is a strong warrior made of metal who likes to rock and insists on talking in lyrics of Linkin Park songs Front: LEGO Hero Factory MOC - Thrash Linkin' 1 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Back: LEGO Hero Factory MOC - Thrash Linkin' 2 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Pose: LEGO Hero Factory MOC - Thrash Linkin' 3 by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Well, that's it for now. Hope you enjoyed this perhaps unusual MOC inspired by an unlikely source!
  10. I've really got into Linkin Park recently, and have practically been listening to the album Living Things non-stop for the past week. There's one song I really don't like, but I love the rest of the songs. I'm even tempted to do an MOC inspired by the album artwork. I've also been listening to these albums: Kasabian - 48:13; Manic Street Preachers - Futurology; The Hoosiers - The News from Nowhere; We Are Scientists - TV en Francais.
  11. Well, I didn't say that it wouldn't be returning (I believed it was returning anyway! ), I just thought the numbering was strange. I didn't notice any blurry set numbers actually, but then again I'm completely useless at picking out details on blurry leaks But your conclusions do sound very interesting to me, they've definitely got me stoked for these new Bionicle sets. I love the sound of all of them. All I can say is... bring on the next round of leaks!
  12. In case anyone's interested, the building instructions for all the mechs have also been put up on LEGO's cache: Rocka Crawler Breez Flea Machine Bulk Drill Machine Surge and Rocka Combat Machine Again, some really nice comics for one to peruse here
  13. Well, this is definitely interesting news! Interesting that we're getting presumably new iterations of the "original" Toa, so one has to wonder what direction the Bionicle reboot could potentially take. And "Lord of Skull Spiders" strangely sounds right up my alley And since I'm a villain person, I'm interested to see what these "defenders" could be. Not to mention that the constraction sets normally occupy the 440xx numbers of the 5 digit numbering system, and for it to suddenly move to the 707xx numbers, where previously Ninjago and Galaxy Squad (System themes) had normally occupied, is really unusual. I would have expected a purely Constraction theme to stay within the 440xx numbers, but hey, that could mean we're also getting another wave of Hero Factory at the same time. Yeah, I think I analyse patterns in set numbers too much
  14. Thanks Pandora, I did not know that group even existed. Just joined!
  15. Of course, I'm not looking to be the queen of LEGO or something like that, neither am I looking for an overnight miracle, I just want to feel more recognised for what I love to do, though it's difficult to implement some advice as I would describe myself as a sociophobe. Of course, it might also be that a friend of mine (who builds some really amazing mecha and spacecraft in LDD) suddenly exploded in popularity on Flickr. The advice he gave me was simply "to build a Neo-Classic Space MOC" But anyway, it's all useful advice, I've started following a few of my more famous followers whose builds I've seen before, and have joined more groups of personal interest. Only time will tell to see whether it's worked or not I guess!
  16. Yes, but really that's just my mentality - I have a rather embarrassing phobia of rejection but of course I understand why it's necessary. Yes, but those were from not too long ago when I was just using Flickr as a repository for my set reviews on Eurobricks, and posting about my builds on other sites. I just decided this last month or so to get serious with Flickr. Anything that looks like a TLG set from the past month on there are my set modifications which are actually what I primarily work on (and are enjoyed very much by EB members). I would use something like Brickshelf for set review photos, but, well, I don't actually like it that much But anyway, thanks for the advice. And somehow, since posting this thread, I've gained some more followers, and I haven't even had the chance to put the useful advice I've been given into practice yet. Ah well, it's all good (I was also surprised at how few active constraction groups there were after doing a search)
  17. You certainly can, I knocked up a quick LDD file of it which should suffice: Large scale Jumper.lxf I should point out that there's a couple of unavoidable errors on the LXF. Obviously, there's no Beast heads in the part library. And the 5M cup-cup beams I had to use on the LXF should actually be these (though I dare say shove some 3M armours on them and it'll be close enough).
  18. For some reason I fancied having a crack at creating a Jumper that is more to scale with the 2010-2013 HF sets. So, I used this image for a rough reference as to what bits to use, especially for the legs: And came up with this: LEGO Hero Factory MOC - Jumper (to scale with Hero constraction sets) by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr As you can see, most of the pieces I had to use weren't available in any of the colours used for the jumper base colours, so it had to be all black. In fact, I don't think I've seen many attempts at these, so I thought I'd try one instead. I could have used the short shoulder torso piece, but I'm very limited in black shells at the moment and what shells you do see was all I had to hand, it would have looked very unarmoured with the other torso. The head should also be the other way around in theory but the only printed version I can get at the moment is in orange, and even then the one that comes with Queen Beast would have looked very odd here anyway. I'll probably end up modding it further anyway. Well, that's all, it's fairly simple, but I hope you enjoyed looking at this MOC!
  19. Well, apart from the fact that I already build many different types of MOC and am a member of some LEGO groups already, seems like good advice. Might have to become more socially active on Flickr I guess! Interesting point about the time you upload, I didn't know that. Do you mean Friday afternoon in terms of US time or UK time, since afternoon in the US is pretty much early evening where I am But it sounds like I should join some more LEGO groups on Flickr firstly, but I'm never sure which ones I can just join freely (with none of that "wait for admin approval" stuff, I personally dislike that). Feel free to recommend me any groups where any of my existing MOC's in my stream (in my sig) could fit in. Then I'll think about starting to follow my own follwers. Thanks for the tips so far, I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to gaining popularity
  20. Hi all! First of all, I hope this is okay to ask here (if not, I'm sorry), but I wish to ask: how can I become more popular on Flickr? I joined about 9 months ago to post my MOC's and have since gained about 35 followers (I don't know if that's good or not for a small, fairly niche photostream like mine). I mostly upload constraction MOC's, but as you can see on my photostream I do build with almost anything and in many subjects as well, and even post stuff relating to new sets on occassion. I've been trying to increase the number of followers I get recently such as joining and uploading to a couple of fairly active MOC (and contest) groups, and adding new content frequently (on advice of a friend of mine who's also on Flickr), but so far it's all failed. Am I doing something wrong? Does the problem lie with the fact that I do such an enormous variety of builds and don't necessarily specialse in one system? Is it because I mostly do constraction MOC's, which I believe are the most niche fanbase within LEGO? Is it simply because I don't actually follow anyone? I should point out that I do get a few faves on every MOC I've posted recently, but I'm more interested in tips on gaining followers at the moment. Any friendly constructive advice from more seasoned Flickr users here will be helpful
  21. Well, my hobbies besides LEGO include drawing; creative writing; photography; rock, mineral and fossil collecting; fossil hunting; cars; music and a little bit of travelling and sightseeing related to geology really. Some say that I probably have too many hobbies actually! I also used to collect diecast model cars, but sort of drew the line on that when I realised that that £150 I was spending on a highly detailed single piece model could have been spent better on LEGO
  22. Probably not "killed" as such, the kidnapped civilians may have even been turned into more Beasts for the Heroes to fight. If that's the case, then that's obviously a valid reason for the Heroes to go and eradicate the Beasts. You obviously don't want your town folk being turned into monsters I guess But I suppose it begs this question: if the Jumpers turn into the bigger Beasts in a sort of "metamorphosis" cycle, where does the plunging of civilians or Heroes into cocoons fit in? Does it make them turn into jumpers, or straight into Beasts? I presume the latter, I guess the jumpers go into the cocoon to turn into Beasts (like caterpillars turn into butterflies). But then, where do the jumpers come from? Ah, I'm probably thinking about it too much, blame me having an A Level in Biology
  23. You're not being a downer at all, it all falls down to the laws of physics and part engineering. Full waist articulation in any way probably wouldn't stand up to constant play and any ball joint holding up a large load would eventually sag and droop, even the high friction joint extenders (as I'm finding while trying to work on the Titan in my signature). The 3x3 turret solution is probably the worst for this, the connection loses friction pretty quickly. And my concept hand, that is based on inspiration for a hybrid of the current fisted hand and my favourite brick built hand solution such as the one used here. Basically, I imagined how the fisted hand part would look like with the fingers "un-fisted" as it were, and added bars where the robot arms so commonly used as fingers could attach (in place of the static moulded fingers). I only added ports for 3 fingers and a thumb as I thought 4 fingers made the concept hand look a bit "fat" (based on how my brick built solution looks with 4 fingers). You could add an axle hole to my concept instead of the part that looks reminiscent of this Technic connector, but if it were a real part, it would either have to be lengthened out of proportion or the axle hole would compromise the structural and probably functional integrity of the part around the ball cup.
  24. Interesting concept even if it wouldn't work (probably due to part strength, a lot of connections in a small part), and I agree that waist articulation is a tricky business while still maintaining good connection points. The only time I've ever made something with something close to full waist articulation (and was capable of replicating most of the human articulation points) was this (and that was by accident, which is why I didn't show it off in that topic), but that uses two XT4 torsos and two short cup-cup beams. It makes it a very tall and skinny torso which would require extra parts to bulk out, so yes, we're not going to see compact solutions from LEGO anytime soon. We'll see fully articulate hands way before fully articulate waists. I did think of a solution using the 3x3 turret joints and new torso pieces that could accept axles or the turret joint (like a torso with this moulded onto it?), but again, it's probably too cumbersome and fragile to work. I haven't sketched it, but I might do if one needs help visualising what I'm on about But anyway, back to the topic at hand... I'm still interested to see what a rebooted or revamped Bionicle in CCBS could give us in terms of new and recoloured parts - that's probably the bit I get most excited about with constraction
  25. Well, I don't know if this is old news, but I found the product description on the Queen Beast product page rather interesting: So the cocoons not only make jumpers, they also transform Heroes into Beasts? (sorry, wasn't sure if this came up earlier in the year, but I only learned this today ). To me, that just sounds a bit clichéd, but interesting nonetheless. Tunneler Beast's product description also seems to explain the use of a cocoon piece on it's back - it's apparently a freshly hatched Beast. Oh, and on a vaguely related note, I also noticed the Summer 2014 Hero Factory sets are now available on backorder from Amazon.co.uk (and probably other Amazons). They should be the first 7 results in this link. Their release is definitely upon us
