You can add me to the list of people that just can't get over the Fire Potector's arms. What really gets me though is that it's such an easy fix - I bought a couple of extra 2014 Chima Ultrabuilds for these and I'll most likely use them to give the gift of elbows to the Fire Protector (and if I have any left over, I'll probably swap the black 3M bones out in the legs as well). I'll probably do the same with the Ice Protector but with trans-light blue bones. But Fire Protector is the one that really needs the modifications

Battle For The Golden Mask Competition: Entry Thread
TheOneVeyronian replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Entry: Quakemor, Beast of the Caves Quakemor, Beast of the Caves by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr From Flickr description: Once a simple cave dwelling Rahi on Okoto, turned into a monstrous Cave Beast by a combination of facehugging Skull Spiders and mysterious evil forces. One of his arms is a massive drill capable of drilling tunnels even through the most solid rock, his footsteps cause earthquakes and his enormous clawed hand can grab a Protector with ease or rip a mask off a Toa's face. Quakemor seeks to assist in the Skull Spider's cause and ultimately to destroy Okoto, given the right moment. The Beast is heavily armed and armoured and isn't afraid to attack. LDD file here -
Currently enjoying the Foo Fighters' new album (but only 8 songs for the price?), along with a rather varied mix of Linkin Park, We Are Scientists, Muse and Green Day. Especially Muse and Linkin Park.

I bought these parts the other day and they arrived yesterday. I can't stop looking at and enjoying them for their beauty and rarity: Best tenner I have ever spent in my opinion. Now to go find a use for them in an MOC
-
It could be worse - my local supermarket often puts sets up for sale on their release date (so no excuses of selling before the street date) and you still can't buy them - all because their computer system doesn't recognise the barcode and the shop assistants refuse the sale even though they have prices for all of them on the shelves But anyway - I'm hoping the sets come out before Christmas, and if they do, it will probably be the TRU that I live within walking distance of that will get them out for sale early (even if you have to spend 40 minutes arguing with the manager to get them all from out the back). I might be able to ask for some of the Protectors or LOSS then. I'm also holding out a tiny bit of hope that they might be for sale at the Brick 2014 convention I'm going to. Well, one can cross their fingers and wish, can't they?

Now I've looked at these close-up pictures of the new Anacondrai Warrior - I admit, they've really grown on me. I've never been much of a fan of human bad guys, but the Anacondrai "cultists" (are they definitely human Anacondrai cultists by the way or is that not confirmed yet?) actually look very good. I may have to pick up all the variants. By the way, is that printing on the top of the skull headgear or a trick of the light? Also, it's nice to see that Skylar is definitely female

Yes, about the black friction joint: Aanchir is probably right about it being a glitch (maybe even an error?), though I think I was the first to notice it way back in June. But yes, I own multiples of almost all the sets that the black friction joint apparently appears in, and they're all Dark Stone Grey. I thought it might have been a batch error at first and later versions of the sets would have them in black, but that's definitely not the case. Perhaps I also need to tell Bricklink catalog admins to remove that particular image since it doesn't actually exist yet. Looks like someone's grabbed that image from Brickset or wherever and it was accepted to BL.

Battle For The Golden Mask Competition: Discussion Thread
TheOneVeyronian replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I think that's the exception to the one villain per entry rule, since the Rahi-like creature would most likely be classed as a steed in that case: -
Now I've looked at those new LOSS pictures, I've got to say that those angles actually make it look rather weird. I'm not usually one for modding sets based almost entirely on Technic, but I think adding some more parts to the (vestigial) "abdomen" handle to give it a proper abdomen will help a bit. I'll probably also work on the legs and try to give them more articulation whilst at the same time keeping the function. However, it's not the first time a spider themed model has been made with completely static legs besides a striking function, one only needs to look at this set to find a recent example of this. I get the feeling that LEGO doesn't really like giving much articulation to anything with more than 4 legs nowadays. That said, it's not the worst set I've ever seen, and it looks like a good parts pack for those who like to use plenty of Technic. The use of a chest plate as a face is genius, and even if you don't like it being used as a face, there is always the option of removing it and sticking it on another figure in place of their current chest piece to give them eyes in their chest. Shame Halloween has already passed this year

[REVIEW]: 70789 Onua: Master of Earth
TheOneVeyronian replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Again, thanks for the review! I really like this set for all the lovely new parts it contains. Personally, I think Onua is a little too wide and that really shows in certain pictures. It's definitely one to pose in a hunched position. And I agree with the others, the shovels being the same colour as the shoulder armour does make it look a bit odd and I would have preferred the shoulder armour to be in black here. But until it reappears in future in that colour, there's not much I can do about that as I'm a purist when it comes to modding sets. However, this set is absolutely chock full of parts that I want extra copies of, so when I go to buy a second copy, Onua will be first on my list there. Definitely got to have one of those black chestplates to keep unstickered, get some more of the silver 6M shoulder armours and Ben 10 feet, and some more of those trans-purple bones. And then I'll probably go to Bricks and Pieces and buy more trans-purple bones than I really need. It's a wonderful set for parts. This was my exact thoughts as well when I saw a picture of the completed model. I think it would have even been LESS hassle to make those bones trans-purple as well (less parts bins to pull from?). Sometimes I'll never understand some of LEGO's decisions -
[REVIEW]: 70788 Kopaka: Master of Ice
TheOneVeyronian replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I must admit that, of the three large Toa, this is probably the one I like best design wise. I really can't find much fault with it, except for his lower legs. I see that they follow a similar technique to the way armour is attached to the lower legs of both my self MOC and Vezalus (my BFTGM entry), but I think what I could do is remove one of the liftarms with balljoint (front or back, I can't make up my mind yet until I have the set on hand) and use the balljoint already on the leg bone. I would assume LEGO didn't do that in the first place since it's practically an illegal technique. Still, it's better than Tahu's legs in my opinion, if only for the fact that they don't use torso shells. Apart from that, I really dislike that the Brain Attack torso shell is silver and that it doesn't match up with the rest of the colour scheme. I think it's bothered me because it looked pretty white to me in all the pictures I'd seen But otherwise, a fantastic model and one I'll probably pick up sooner rather than later -
Fair enough (but 40 Euros for the Claw Driller would have been if it were true, which it might be but now I'm erring towards 50 Euros being more correct).I'm only talking in Euros because the site states prices in Euros by the way. In fact, I only happened to notice the other prices when I noticed that they had the Bladvic mech and the Croc-copter seemingly the wrong way around. But I guess until set pictures come out, on the site I linked to or elsewhere, there's no definite way of telling what way round they will be I guess.

Thanks for this review VBBN! Tahu Nuva was one of my first Bionicle sets, so if I don't end up buying all 13 at once and don't win any in the BFTGM contest, this will be my first purchase along with Pohatu. That said, I can't stand the armour on the legs as it currently is. I can't help but feel that the 6M shoulder armour would have been better on the femurs (maybe with the piston piece) and the 5M with the piston extension on his shins. It's also too exposed at the back of the legs and I also quite dislike the use of the friction joints on the ankles. But to be fair I've never been a fan of that anyway. I will probably mod Tahu to fix the legs as I describe, and free up some of those wonderful red 2.0 torso armours for some of my character MOC's that have been crying out for them for years. Also, I agree with you, the use of silver is quite baffling especially as the hands AND feet both exist in black and red. And am I the only one that thinks his arms look a bit weird? What with the piston extension only being on the lower part of the arm? Otherwise, a very nice set and I look forward to picking it up and working my magic on it

Not sure if anybody's noticed this yet, but this site appears to give indications of the prices for the Winter 2015 Chima wave. Including those of the 3 sets we've yet to get pictures of (I'd keep an eye on this page in case the pictures surface! ). If those prices are indeed correct, some of those PPP ratios will look absolutely fantastic, especially on Icebite's Claw Driller (though I have my doubts, it's highly unusual to see >600 piece sets for under 40 Euros ) I do not know if it's a mixup of the set numbers or if it's correct, but a couple of months ago people were thinking that Bladvic's Bear Mech was the most expensive set of the 3 we've yet to see pictures of. That does not appear to be true, and in fact the Cragger set is the most expensive of them instead. Appears that the Bladvic and Cragger sets might have got assigned to the wrong set numbers maybe? Thoughts?

So the Clear Tahu isn't that rare, is it?
TheOneVeyronian replied to Nekchir's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Like others have said, the mask is reasonably rare, but I think $30 is a reasonable price as well for a reasonably rare con exclusive, considering that some other con exclusives are worth a LOT more (for argument's sake, I'm ignoring the theme). Indeed, I would snap one up in a heartbeat for that price... if it wasn't for the fact that I live in the UK where the mask is much more expensive, even when it's imported from the US (I mean, the UK's postal service charges completely absurd customs fees on $30 items, it would cost more like $60 in the end. If it was $25 however... different story) -
Battle For The Golden Mask Competition: Discussion Thread
TheOneVeyronian replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
As currently the person who has the most posted entries so far, I'm actually not sure if I'm posting any more entries for now. I have a room to clear out, a convention to go to and a far bigger action figure project to start planning, and all that's eating into my contest MOC'ing time. It doesn't help that an old friend has recently started talking to me again either! I'll be hard pressed to come up with a decent 6th entry by start of December, that's for sure... but I'll try By the way, so good to see all the awesome creations you guys have made so far -
Hello all! First off, I would like to state that I don't play Minecraft, so my reference material was basically poor quality screengrabs of the Ender dragon from a Google image search. But even though I don't play Minecraft, I couldn't help but be attracted to the Ender Dragon from set 21117. But, after reading VBBN's insightful review on the set, I realised it had problems, and it inspired me to chalk up a slightly more accurate and poseable modification of the Ender Dragon in the set in LDD. This is what I've come up with: Minecraft - The Ender Dragon (21117 mod) by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Basically, gone are most of the hinge plates and they've been replaced with Mixel balljoints to enable more dynamic poses. The legs especially annoyed me as in the previous model, if you bent the legs outwards, the dragon was basically standing on the edges of it's feet, now at least partially fixed by the use of Mixel balljoints. Until the Mixel balljoints are made in black though, black 1x2, 2x2 inverted brackets had to be used in order to maintain more of it's colour homogenity. But the biggest difference is the fact that I have got rid of the flapping wing function in the model and have given it more realistic brick built wings. If you would like to mod your own Ender Dragon to look like this one or use it as a starting point for your own mods, then here is the LDD file for that purpose. All parts do exist, though please be aware that the old style hinges used in the wings either don't exist or are very rare in light bluish gray (but common in the old light grey), and the model should work in real life. Please ignore the random decorations, they were used for the purposes of giving the Ender Dragon it's proper decals in the render. Comments are welcome!

Battle For The Golden Mask Competition: Discussion Thread
TheOneVeyronian replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
1) Already been covered previously, they are fine. A couple of my entries use illegal techniques even: 2) I don't think it matters, though having a structurally sound villain would allow you to build bigger and badder villains more easily Hope that helps -

5th entry: Raahhiju the Marauder: Raahhiju the Marauder by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr From Flickr description: Raahhiju is an unusual anomaly of the Bionicle world, being a Rahi-like sentient monster that is mostly biological in composition with few mechanical implants or accents about him. However, he is a fierce alien from a distant planet, seemingly with his mind set on attempting to destroy all the Great Masks on Okoto that he can get his slimy claws on. Nobody knows his motivation and nobody dares ask. He is strong, fast, well armoured and resistant to sonic attacks, not to mention brutal and terrifying. However, his wits are rather lacking and can be caught out by trickery rather easily. LXF is here -
The least LEGO-like line?
TheOneVeyronian replied to Transparency for Effect's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Like everyone else so far on this thread, I would say Galidor (my computer really actually paused for thought as I typed that, like it didn't want me to say it ). But I'm surprised Clikits hasn't been mentioned. I owned a Clikits set as a child (I remember my parents buying one from Poundland years and years ago), and they never felt very LEGO-like to me. Yes, it's buildable (as in buildable jewellery and human accessories), but just in a completely different way to regular LEGO bricks, and I can't remember if Clikits parts are even compatible with regular LEGO. I don't think they are but I could be completely wrong. Either way, they don't feel very LEGO-like to me. -
I have no interest in Minecraft and the set as a whole doesn't have a lot going for it for me, however I do kinda like the dragon. Having said that though, the dragon could do with some serious modding. It can't be too hard to swap out the up/down click hinges for something a bit more flexible for instance, and neither would it be too hard to create some blocky brick built wings (I could do that if I can find a reference image) and use the black dragon wings for something else (if only I hadn't bought some back in April... I feel insanely stupid now. Well I guess more UCS Batmobiles can be built now ). I think it might be worth me having a play around with the dragon in LDD when the instructions are released online. Otherwise, I'm going to wait for a discount as £59.99 is insanely overpriced for what you get (even if it does have insanely expensive wings)

Sadly, it seems that LEGO theft is all too common, and I see it pretty much every day I'm out at the shops. Reminds me of a time recently in my local bookshop where I saw 3 copies of "The Dark Side" book, and one of them had the Palpatine fig pinched out of it, and a second looked like someone had tried and failed to pilfer it due to it's cape being scruffed up and skewed. I returned a few days later, and the only book that did have the perfect Palpatine in it had now been pinched as well. Out of three books, not one had a mint Palpatine in it. And the bookshop were still trying to sell the incomplete books at full price. And once I saw a lone Death Star troopers set in my local supermarket. They were selling that particular set at half price, yet obviously for someone that wasn't good enough as the only copy they had left had been ripped open, bags ripped open and all the figs pilfered from it. (and on a related note, not to mention the amount of CMF bags that get ripped open in my area...) This whole stolen minifigure business is a bit of a shame really, and as I said at the beginning, it's all too common.

This is one of my BFTGM entries, but I was especially pleased at how this MOC (technically a revamp of an MOC I made a few months ago) turned out, I thought I'd give it it's own topic. So here it is: Mechan'Rex, Steel Guardian by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Mechan'Rex, Steel Guardian by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Mechan'Rex, Steel Guardian by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Mechan'Rex, Steel Guardian by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Mechan'Rex, Steel Guardian by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Constructive comments are appreciated! (but please no comments regarding the story bio I gave it in the Flickr description... that was just something I made up for this MOC)

4th entry: Mechan'Rex, Steel Guardian: Mechan'Rex, Steel Guardian by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr From Flickr description: Mechan'Rex is one of the few truly mechanical mercenaries of Okoto, and the leader of the so-called "Steel Guardians" who protect the metal forge from which they were born and raised in. Mechan'Rex used to be a friend and ally of the Toa, until a freak run-in with the Mask of Ultimate Power corrupted his artificial intelligence. Since that event, Mechan'Rex and his band of steel warriors have sworn to hunt down the Mask of Ultimate Power, abandoning all allegiances the Guardians had with the Toa, and becoming everybody's worst enemy, enemy of the Toa, Matoran, Protectors, Skull Spiders and even Makuta himself. Mechan'Rex is gifted in the art of using the longbow, and despite his sheer strength, it's his weapon of choice. For more pictures and shots, here's the dedicated Flickr album. -

TheOneVeyronian replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I've nearly finished my 4th MOC, I'm just thinking about what weapon would be good for this model. I was originally going to give him a fantasy style longbow, but judging by the resulting massive bulk and armour on him, I'm wondering if a great big hammer would be a better choice... Some people who have watched my Flickr stream for a while (or seen it on EB) may get a little sense of deja vu with it though, as it's technically a revamp of an older MOC despite the fact I've changed 80% of the structure and armour and completely redone the legs and hands.
