MOC: The Siege of Alesia
Gary The Procrastinator replied to Macsen Wledig's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
You've done a perfect job recreating Caeser's "tactical donut". Fairly amazing considering that this was your first build back from 15 years of dark ages. I love your historical MOCs, keep them coming!- 6 replies

That is some fantastic engineering there in an area which needs more of this type of clever techniques. Congratulations!

Awestruck. I thought it was LDD until I saw the pics. Congratulations, you just built the best Star Wars MOC anywhere.

Now that's the way to do a dragon. Besides the outstanding build, I love the way you have him climbing up the rock for a full pose.

A compact and pleasing build. It looks completely professional in every way, with that dark red roof is my part favorite here. -

Black Swan Tavern on Market Day
Gary The Procrastinator replied to Gary The Procrastinator's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thank you Krono, I will have to do a tutorial here when I get the time. Right now I'm swamped getting LEGO-ready for Brickfair VA builds, but I will do one. This tree is one build, very good for public displays. Thank you ZCerberus. The signature block is mine from another....er....um....[awkward] another online role-playing forum, which, in my defense I joined long before I had even heard of Eurobricks Thank you LegoDr! Thank you frumpy. These lower window panes are from 4756-1 Shreiking Shack. I've had them in my inventory for years waiting for the right build to use them. Thank you emilstorm and Ritsz! I appreciate your comments. Thanks so much Simon, very much appreciate it. I wish I could join GoH, but LoR and getting ready for Brickfair VA are eating up all the LEGO-time I have right now! Thanks Balthazar, it took a while to work those solutions out, especially that roof with the gables. Hey Steven, good to see you on here. Thanks a bunch; wish you guys were coming to BFVA this year. Thank you so much everyone!! Very kind of you.- 17 replies

Magnificent work here, completely captures the look and feel of a ship at sea. That ocean really works so well, and your details make it even better.

Can't tell you enough how much I love this series of yours. Everything is top notch, and the fact that you've shown it in construction, in different seasons, and under attack is icing on the cake. Keep building in Historical!- 60 replies

Defense of Little Round Top
Gary The Procrastinator replied to Gary The Procrastinator's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thank you for noticing, and yes they do. I travelled to the actual site of where the 20th Maine fought on LRT, and the trunks are indeed Dark Bley...er, um, dark gray! I am purist, thank you for noticing! The only comprimise I was willing to make were the flags. You just can't build a Northern VA Battle Flag out of Lego at that scale, it's impossible to make it recognizable, and the flags had to be there for historical purposes and also to help people see the "two sides". And I do try to get as many different faces in there as I can. Thank you!- 20 replies

Defense of Little Round Top
Gary The Procrastinator replied to Gary The Procrastinator's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thank you so much everyone, such a warm welcome from the EB community, I should have joined a long time ago! I greatly appreciate the comments! Yes that's another critical point, and they happened within days of each other. I believe however that Gettysburg was even more important, and here's why: if Vicksburg had not fallen then, it would have fallen eventually. But if the Army of the Potomac had lost Gettysburg, and been swept aside, then there is a very real possibility that Robert E. Lee would have penetrated Washington D.C.'s defenses, and that would have brought the European Powers' support to the South, changing both the nature of the war and the manner by which the Union won, which was by strangling the South of resources. It is even potentially possible that Lee could have captured Lincoln in D.C., and that certainly would have ended the war on Southern terms. Just my thoughts; thank you for the comment! Certainly, they are extremely sturdy and therefore fantastic for displays in public (I am a member of WAMALUG, and we do dozens of displays every year in Northern Virginia and Washington D.C./Maryland). Let me see if I can find the post where someone asked previously on FLICKR and I will get back to you.- 20 replies

Hello, I'm new to Eurobricks, so I thought I'd start with one of my favorite builds, just to try out the functionality of posting and see if I have everything right. Let me know if I'm messing something up here! This is a historical US Civil War build of the 20th Maine Regiment's defense of a key position during the war's turning point, the Battle of Gettysburg. I built it for the 150th Anniversary of the actual battle, starting it on the anniversary of the very day the action took place. It was part of the Civil War display at last year's Brickfair and won Best Historical MOC for 2013. For the full story of this action, click on the image. Thanks for your comments!
