Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Hopefully the next modular doesn't use colors I hate (e.g. the dark orange used on the Corner Garage or the Olive Green used on the Parisian Restaurant)... -
THE PIRATE BAY IS GOING TO BE AN OFFICIAL LEGO SET!!!!
jonwil replied to Another Brick In The Wall's topic in LEGO Pirates
It all depends on what order LEGO decides to release the 3 in-development sets (Piano, Pirate Bay, Sesame Street) in. -
I can't see that subway train being approved. We haven't seen an AFOL targeted train since the Horizon Express (and no the Disney train doesn't count since its got the license of the most famous theme park in the world attached to it) and an Ideas train would likely have an even higher barrier to pass than a regular old AFOL targeted train (especially something with that many pieces). Maybe if it was a replica of a more well known or famous train (one that people from all over the world know and recognize) it might have more of a chance but I dont think the Toronto subway is famous enough.

Don't think it comes with any sails though. -

Ice cream parlor/soda fountain/candy store would be great, we haven't had any of those in modulars before (there have been ice cream things in other themes before like the TLM ice cream truck but I dont think LEGO have ever done a candy store or a soda fountain before) -

I doubt a town hall (even in the biggest of cities) would have had any kind of computers (terminals included) until the rise of the microcomputer in the early 80s. Certainly not in that kind of location (maybe really really big cities with massive amounts of data to process would have had a batch-processing IBM or a DEC PDP somewhere in the administration but they wouldn't have had any kind of input in such a visible place) -

I 100% agree that this is a much better thing to get than a pirate ship. I own a re-issue Black Seas Barracuda but I don't have any pirate bases as such. Something full of pirate parts will be great :) -
Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces

My big B&P order contained 4 copies of part 6223854 (medical torso). One of those copies was missing an arm (as you can see in the loot shots). Contacted LEGO asking for a replacement and they sent me 2 copies of the part 6223854 rather than just a single replacement copy (both copies were all as they should be) -
I think the difference is that the Caterham is a somewhat unique vehicle offered by a very niche manufacturer and LEGO had not produced anything similar (nor would they have been likely to do so in the absence of the ideas project) whereas the Scania is just another truck that's not all that different to things they have already done like the Mercedes Benz or Mack.

Very happy with LEGO customer service, they sent me not one but TWO copies of the missing-arm medical torso from my big B&P order (you can see the torso in question in my loot shots a few posts above this one). -
Ideas is about things LEGO wouldn't otherwise have made. LEGO already did a Mack truck and a Mercedes Benz truck so I see no reason why a Scania would get made through Ideas (if they wanted to do another truck from a brand like Scania they would just use their existing relationship with Volkswagen Auto Group and do it that way)

With more Ideas sets being released, the limited amount of "changes" (i.e. new prints, recolored parts and such) allocated to Ideas has to be spread over more sets which means they can't necessarily print everything they would like to print.

Big Bang Theory and the Fishing Store both had stickers.

Here in Queensland they have what they call "neighborhood police beats" which are smaller buildings (that don't have the full facilities of a regular station like lockup cells) and are designed to provide a place for officers to be stationed that's closer to where they need to be. These can be as small as a 1-room transportable building that has parking space for police vehicles and a little bit of room for a front counter and a desk or two. (they also have "police beats" as shops in major shopping centres to provide another way for the public to interact with the police) Something along these lines with maybe a single story police building, a small police car and maybe 3 cops around the US$30 price point would be cool to see. I also want to see more food trucks like the pizza truck from a while back and more food stands like the burger bar from this year (so many styles of food they could go for like tacos or wings or barbecue or Asian)

I want something (modular or otherwise) in Googie/Raygun Gothic style. -
Somehow I can't see LEGO bringing back the molds for things like those ugly green aliens.

The video tapes are from a Jurassic World set. And yes, the boarding pass is from a Juniors set (as are the airline pilot torsos) -

Just finished checking my B&P order and one of the torsos (part 6223854, medical torso) was missing an arm and hand. Already contacted LEGO customer service about it but its definitely the weirdest thing I have ever had happen to me in a parts order... A couple loot shots (this isn't everything in the order, just the really interesting stuff like printed and minifig bits) Apologies for the quality, my camera isn't the best camera out there and its nighttime so the lighting isn't great either. You can however see the torso with the missing arm and the other 3 matching that aren't missing the arm. Definitely some nice parts in there (including some that would otherwise be very hard/expensive to get like the chinese food, tacos, video tapes, steamboat willie parts, candles and some of the torsos (the ones from the more expensive Hidden Side sets or the medical torsos for example) -

Ordered 13 Oct, shipped 17 Oct, shipping email says "5-8 business days", hopefully it shows up soon... Thankfully its shipped via Australia Post so (unlike the other part of the order) there should be no delivery issues (never had a problem with B&P being miss-delivered) EDIT: I have a card from the post office saying to go pick something up (and I am not expecting any other parcels so it must be the B&P :) Will probably make a loot shot of the cool parts I got here (and from other recent purchases :) -
What minifigs are we missing - post your detailed suggestions here

Bank Robber: Gender: Male Torso print: Black torso with stereotypical bank robber print Head print: Black balaclava with small holes allowing just the eyes and mouth to show Headgear: None Legs: Black with print matching the torso Accessory: Printed 1x2 tile featuring a bill (similar to the current printed money tile) but also a money band (so it looks like a stack of bills rather than just one) and the sack piece in tan with a black $ print on it (assuming they can print on that element) Secret Agent: Gender: Male Torso print: Dark grey trench coat Head print: Dark sunglasses and suitable expression Headgear: Dark grey fedora Legs: Dark grey trench coat Accessory: 1 x 2 printed tile with miniature spy tape recorder print (and maybe some other spy accessory as well) Alien Investigator: Gender: Male Torso print: Black suit with white shirt and black tie Head print: Black cool-guy type sunglasses with cool-guy expression Headgear: Black cool-guy type hair Legs: Continue the black suit Accessory: Printed tile with photo of S6 grey alien and maybe some sort of "alien detector" -
Its entirely possible they tried design studies of other species internally (Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus etc) and couldn't come up with a design that met their criteria (available parts, scale, colors, sturdiness etc) and so they went with the ones that actually worked and looked good. Stegosaurus for example, it may have been difficult to find a part in current use in the right color that worked for the plates on the back. Or maybe they couldn't find a way to get the neck of Brachiosaurus sturdy enough.

Dinosaur skeletons set has been revealed. Color has been changed to white from tan (which I can understand for parts availability reasons). Skeletons have seen a significant re-design and are more bulky instead of the fairly slim technic designs of the original (which again makes sense given the need to make the the designs stand up to the rigorous LEGO standards for sturdiness, playablility etc). Its got stickers rather than printed parts (again I can understand that, they just didn't have the ability to produce them as printed parts given the limited number of "new parts" (recolors/prints/etc) Ideas sets get to have). My biggest criticism is that they have mostly ignored the dinosaurs in the original submission (like a Stegosaurus and Brachiosaurus) and gone with a T-Rex, Pteranodon and Triceratops (although the Triceratops was in the original submission). Pretty much all Ideas sets to date have at least captured the intent of the original designer (Women of NASA for example used the same women as the original submission, birds included the same 3 birds suggested by the original submitter and the Research Institute included the same 3 scientist types as the original submission) but this one seems to have deviated too far from the original (mostly due to the selection of the actual dinosaurs to include) for me to be willing to buy one. EDIT: Per New Elementary, the set contains no newly-recolored parts and no newly-printed parts (which means they probably didn't have the ability to do any for the set) so that might explain some of the decisions that got made with this set.

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
jonwil replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
My Bricks & Pieces order has shipped. Only difference I can see between the list of parts on the "check order" screen and the list of parts in the "your bricks & pieces have shipped" email is that LEGO appear to be sending me a 6264111 rather than a 6299493. The 6299493 codes for the microfig in green (as used in the new Toy Story sets) 6264111 does not show up in the LEGO database when I search but Brickset and Bricklink both list the 6264111 as also being the microfig in green. So it looks like LEGO have not removed any parts from my order (unlike some who ordered parts and got told that some of what they ordered wasn't actually meant to be for sale) Now to hope the "5-8 business days" quoted for shipping is accurate and it doesn't get delayed :) -

Glad I got my order in when I did during one of the rare periods when everything is working properly.
