2020 Mindstorms set
jonwil replied to Coder Shah's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
There is no reason they couldn't have made software for the EV3 (using Scratch or whatever else) that was just as easy to program as whatever the software for this new brick is. -
I have an ideas idea in my head and I want to get feedback from here as to whether its worth actually pursuing. The idea is a set that's a bit like a Creator 3-in-1 where it comes with a set of parts and from those parts you can build one of x different styles of 6-wide cars that would fit in a City layout (like the Creator 3-in-1 you would only be able to build one design at once). I have designs for (among others) a Ute (otherwise known as a pickup truck for those living in most places that aren't named Australia), large sedan, smaller sedan, hatchback, wagon, SUV, smaller SUV, convertible and maybe others. Does this sound like something that would even be worth doing up and submitting to Ideas? I personally like it because it would give people an easy way to get a lot of nice-looking civilian cars for their cities plus it would be a smaller more affordable set (compared to sets costing $100+) and with the x-in-one nature it would encourage people to buy multiples. But before I put the effort into building and photographing and submitting my idea, I want some advice from others who know more about LEGO Ideas than me about if its even worth bothering to submit it. Also some suggestions on what color I should pick for the cars if I did submit it would be nice :)

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 21. Rumors and discussion
jonwil replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Me, I had no problems feeling up the bags for S20, for HP S2 and for the Mario blind bags. None of the retailers I was buying from had any issue with it or told me to stop (and yes I did wash my hands first) -
2020 Mindstorms set
jonwil replied to Coder Shah's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Its clear that one of the goals when making the new Mindstorms programmable brick was to reduce the cost of the programmable brick over the one in the EV3 (lower spec microcontroller, not having an LCD, stuff like that) and probably they also wanted to reduce the battery usage as well. -
Where I am here in Brisbane, QLD, there seems to be reasonable stock levels in store of the entire line including the starter pack.

Per https://www.brickfanatics.com/first-images-of-lego-ideas-92176-nasa-apollo-saturn-v/ it looks like the Saturn V Rocket is basically unchanged from the original except the set number (still printed parts, still the same design etc)

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
jonwil replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I love the use of the colors on the Downtown Diner (the pink of the sign and the teal of the arched bit) but I wouldn't want a building that uses either color as a primary color (which is why I am not the biggest fan of the Bookshop). Also not a fan of the Olive Green on the Parisian Restaurant and the Dark Orange on the Town Hall/Corner Garage. But I LOVE the large-scale use of the blue shades on the Detective's Office, the dark green windows on the Grand Emporium, the dark tan on the Palace Cinema, the color schemes of all 3 buildings in the 2008 Town Plan set and most of the colors in the new Diagon Alley set (Flourish and Blotts along with Scribbulus are my favorites in terms of colors) -
Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
jonwil replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
Anyone want to predict if/when some of the new non-licensed parts from Diagon Alley like the doors in Dark Red, Earth Green and Cool Yellow are going to become available on B&P? They aren't available yet although interestingly the magic wand elements ARE available if anyone is after those. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Cool Yellow (as used on the FIAT) would be a nice color to see. As would Sand Yellow (as seen to great effect on the Creator Model Town House from 2007). More Earth Green and Earth Blue would be nice as well. More bright orange too (but that's probably too bright for a modular building). I would ask for more Dark Red but the GHBQ satisfied my needs there :) -
LEGO would not do such a set with printed parts (the cost would be too high). But even with stickers it would still be awesome and I would buy it (if they had a decent selection of road signs)

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I want to see them do an architectural style they haven't done before. Something like Googie/Raygun Gothic would be amazing, as would a Brutalist building... -
2020 Mindstorms set

So what, this new Mindstorms set is LESS powerful than the EV3 but it has a higher RRP? -
Lego City 2021 Rumours, information and discussion
jonwil replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
I will reserve judgement until I see the sets (or at least very clear images). Although if I can find some and afford them I will probably snag more road plates (I have 3 each of the straight and T, I could use some curves and cross at least) -
I think the real problem for LEGO in regards to Space is that they don't want to do too much with it or have too many cool sets around because it would take sales away from their overpriced Star Wars line. I bought the entire Alien Conquest line (which was very awesome) and a few of the Space Police sets (wishing I had been able to pick up that large base but I never did). Galaxy Squad was crap. I also bought both the Spaceship Spaceship SPACESHIP! and the Space Squad. The last Star Wars set I bought was the 4+ A-Wing and that was bought on deep discount and only for parts (I wanted the pilot torso/legs for a fighter jet MOC) but I wouldn't have bought it without the deep discount because I think Star Wars is overpriced.

21325 would probably be the Blacksmith Shop and 21326 would probably be the Winnie The Pooh set going by those prices and what's next. Personally I wish they would make more Ideas sets at the cheaper end of the price scale (sets like the Women of NASA, TRON Legacy, Exo Suit, Ghostbusters etc) instead of all the Ideas sets being big and expensive the way the most recent ones have been.

2020 Mindstorms set
jonwil replied to Coder Shah's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
According to other info, its using a STM32F413 and yes that part does have USB OTG built into it (although whether the LEGO hardware is built in a way that allows you to actually use the USB OTG I don't know) -
I like it. If the price here in Australia isn't obscene this will likely be a day-one purchase for me. The birds on the roof look to me like the same little white bird that appeared in, say, the Disney Series 2 Jasmine CMF rather than something new (although its hard to be sure)

I think Toronto would be perfect, Canada has never seen an Architecture set and there are enough world-famous buildings to make it work.

Marvel Superheroes 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
jonwil replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Not that you can buy licensed heads on B&P most of the time anyway :) -
If you are lucky enough to live here in Sunny Queensland and can get there, the Robina Town Centre LEGO shore has plenty of stock of the NES (or did as of yesterday at least :)

I think the one thing that has surprised me about recent Ideas set approvals is the Home Alone house. It seems (on the surface) not to make sense. Its massive (and would still need to be fairly large to capture all the detail needed) and I didn't think the movie was popular anymore. I can see why most of this batch got rejected though. Futurama for example, they know how well The Simpsons sets sold and Futurama is more of the same only its nowhere near as popular. Quite a few of these are based on IPs that just aren't popular enough in 2020 like Untitled Goose Game, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Knight Rider, Coraline and Iron Giant. I could have seen Mary Poppins working though (given the nostalgia factor), maybe there where difficulties with the licensing for some reason. I think the Bowling Alley also had a good chance for similar same reasons as the Fishing Store (its not so big as to be unviable, its something LEGO hasn't done before and isn't likely to do and bowling is a very popular thing all over the world). I like the Globe and depending on pricing and how they pull it off will be very interested in buying one. Same with the Stratocaster (so many famous and awesome guitarists have used some variant of the Strat over the years including the legendary Pete Townshend of The Who and the guitar god Jimmy Hendrix). As for Sonic, I suspect its passed the business case (i.e. the "is this a viable product" test) and its the licensing (both negotiating with SEGA and any conflicts with their Mario line and its license) that are still up in the air. I do think that for these IPs like Spongebob, Futurama, Queen, Tesla, SpaceX, Zelda, Indiana Jones, Ratatouille, Up etc that come up multiple times, if they have done the analysis and decided that the IP as a whole isn't feasible (rather than just that one specific design that is up for review) they should come out and say so and stop allowing these IPs to even be submitted to the site at all.

Marvel Superheroes 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
jonwil replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I wouldn't mind if they put a Hawkeye in the CMF though, that's one character I still haven't been able to get (seems to be in fewer sets than characters like Iron Man for some reason) Fantastic Four would obviously be amazing. Or maybe some X-Men characters we haven't seen before like Professor X or Gambit. -
Marvel Superheroes 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

I hope they do do a Marvel CMF and they include characters we haven't seen before (or haven't seen much of) rather than filling half the series up with Iron Man suits or something. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
jonwil replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
My favorite of the modulars is probably the Downtown Diner followed by the Detectives Office. The Corner Garage would have been cool (and would have been added to my collection) except that I don't like the dark orange color they used. -
Looking at the Bricklink database I count 8 different 1x1 round tile with sticker and no less than 32 different 1x1 tile with sticker. Looking at Ideas sets with stickers, the first 2 (submarine and that space probe) were very limited production so stickers made sense for those. Big Bang Theory had stickers only on 2 parts (door and 1x1x6 column) that have never had prints on them so it may have been simply that it was too expensive to set up the templates needed to print on such parts. Old Fishing Store had a lot of prints and new elements as well as the stickers (some of which were for parts that also had not had prints on them at that point like the doors and the 2x3 tile with clip). The stickers in the Voltron set were intentionally made as stickers since different versions of Voltron either did or didn't have the numbers on the lions so they wanted people to be able to choose. Central Perk once again had stickers but also lots of prints (and you could probably leave the stickers off and still have something that looks good). And none of the more recent sets (Tree House, Steamboat Willie, Flintstones, ISS, Barracuda Bay or Piano have had stickers). Ignoring the first 2 sets (which didn't get the production run to be able to print on parts), those instances of stickers on parts that were not able to be printed on at the time and Voltron where the stickers were done to give builders a choice, only the Fishing Store and Central Perk had stickers that could have been prints but weren't and even then you could leave the stickers off and still have a good looking set.
