Absolutely. Not right now. We discussed using credits a lot, but wanted to keep the game mechanics as simple as possible for now. We do expect other forms of unofficial currency or bartering to develop, but that is up to the factions and how they want to interact with each other

I’m glad y’all like it. There are a lot of really cool factions posting soon, so don’t forget about the CFS after you’ve been wowed by all the others
-
We didn’t have you in mind. It’s very common across IG and Flickr, and with allowing custom parts we wanted to be sure to curb their inappropriate use in the forum. Truly, we work hard on these forums because we like to see people improving their builds and supporting each other while enriching the Star Wars universe

Faction: Confederacy of Free Systems Faction Leader: Goatman461 Capital: None Planets: Randon, Ubrikkia, Yitabo, Botajef, Centares, Lowick, Bandomeer, Celanon, Allanteen, Giju, Teyr Vulvarch, Columex, Felucia, Arcan, Lothal, Lowick, Malagarr Systems: O6, R6, U9, V8 Description: The CFS is an agreement between independent, economically open systems for free trade and recognition of various trade standards. As systems who have seen the horrible abuses of criminal cartels, harsh subjugation by the Empire, and even years of war with the Republic, these systems have been wary to join the New Republic, albeit sympathetic to their cause. Republic delegations often come, but the only the member-systems' reluctance to support yet another state capable of unleashing the untold horrors of war has met them R6 Nemodians on Felucia 2 by Ryan McBryde, on Flickr Most of the inhabitants are non-human small business owners, farmers, traders, and craftsmen. Many have made new homes on Outer Rim worlds, new colonies, and recovering war zones. They have an affinity for the dark blue of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, which was adorned as a silent protest of the Empire and now outward show of pride for their past. R6 Nemodians on Felucia 3 tee-muss by Ryan McBryde, on Flickr Sephi-x & Imroosian refugees by Ryan McBryde, on Flickr Twi'lek settlers by Ryan McBryde, on Flickr Togruta colonists by Ryan McBryde, on Flickr Most of their dwellings are simple structures made from any materials that are available to those brave homesteaders that strike out on their own: decommissioned ships, clay bricks, ruins of long past civilizations. These are no longer scenes of great action, although their past has been full of war and destruction. Faction Recruits Faction recruits can expect a large array of accessible planets, particularly those significant to the Clone War era, and help collaborating on builds and stories. I'm really interested in encouraging castle-builders and that style of building in the Star Wars universe. So, a lot of organic, nature-driven builds focused on homesteads in unique, alien landscapes. Fleshies are required when using human minifigures, but some creativity in representing non-humans may be necessary. PM Goatman461 to petition to join or if you have any questions about the game. Should be this week

You’ll need one character to be a part of your faction, but you can create as many characters as you would like. Unlike SoNE, you won’t have to feature your faction character in each build, so there’s a lot of opportunity to visit as many characters as you would like to.
-
If you want to control a planet you have to be the first to 50 IP, or gain 25 IP more than any other faction on that planet. Right now, that is the only way to control planets. I think a big difference is that the factions are not permanent, and builders are not forever tied to their initial faction. So we expect some factions to die off as other rise up from the more active builders. It should keep the best factions going and breathe new life into the game from time to time.
-
We tried to set up the game so all levels of builders can have fun and contribute to expanding the Star Wars universe through unique MOCs. The Faction structure partially is meant to provide guidance to newer builders and help them develop. It will be decisive, in that a pool of judges will independently assess the builds and post their scores to be averaged against each other. Once the score posts it will be final. As far as fairness, I think it’s self explanatory that poor MOCs will get lower scores and great MOCs will get high scores. But there are a lot of ways to contribute to a faction, regardless of building aptitude. Coming up with storylines to attract builders, studying the map to help with strategy, creating incentives within the faction to encourage builders, etc. That being said, IMO, the point of these games is to inspire great MOCs and help builders build great MOCs. Those builders will be rewarded the most, and I don’t know how that could be interpreted as unfair. That would be custom bricks, but I wouldn’t consider that overly customized, and the minifigs themselves should be fine. However, this kind of build may be too focused on the customized parts since there’s not much background and is pretty much a (custom) figbarf.
-
I think you're just looking at the timeline and gameplay too literally. The idea is that you are getting points by telling stories on the planet. There is not a one-for-one "bricks put on post-Jakku planet" = "gain more control of that planet." It's more like your faction wants to control a planet, so they build for that planet and help define it throughout whatever eras they choose. We had to pin the points down to a specific era (Aftermath/post-Jakku) for the gameplay, but we didn't want to limit what eras you could build in, so there has to be some kind of disconnect on alternate era builds. I'll let @LucasLaughing and @MKJoshA handle this one so I don't misstate it.
-
Since you can build in any era and you don't have to use the same character, yes you could use a force sensitive character. I don't think we really want them playing a part in the post-Jakku era where most of the map/gameplay will be, at least for now. Be sure to discuss it with your Faction Leader and don't get carried away with it. yes To set up, we gave all of the factions one planet as a freebie, then we converted their SoNE points into IP and let them choose how they allocated their points. I had 350 XP in SoNE, so I got to grab 7 planets at 50 IP each + 1 free planet. You do need some kind of character to be a member of a faction. But you don't have to include that character in any of your builds. You probably should include them in at least some post-Jakku builds, but it's not required for every build the way it was in SoNE.

Factions - Introduction, Discussion, and Core Rules
goatman461 replied to goatman461's topic in Factions Archive
Factions Each faction is led by a player with 75 XP or more. Faction Leaders (75+ XP) will be responsible for establishing the aesthetic and storyline for their faction. Faction Leaders can designate one or more "2nd-in-command(s)" to assist them in leading their faction. Faction Leaders are expected to encourage the most accurate Star-Wars-aesthetic and the most engaging story plots. Faction Recruits (0-74 XP) must pledge allegiance to and be accepted by one of the Faction Leaders. If a Faction Recruit earns more than 75 XP, they do not automatically become a leader of their own faction. They must make that change on their own, in their own time, with the Faction Change Form. A player with more than 75 XP can also decide to simply continue as a Faction Recruit. Faction members earn XP for every build. When they build on a planet accessible to their faction, the faction also earns the same number in Influence Points (IP). When the member builds anywhere else, he still earns XP, but the faction earns no IP. Factions may agree to share access to their territory. Faction leaders are responsible for knowing where their members can build and who cannot build in their territory. Faction Recruits may transfer factions without approval from their current Faction Leader. Any IP earned for their previous faction will stay with the faction. Badges or other items associated with their previous faction may be forfeited. Once a faction member reaches 75+ XP and decides to start their own faction, they may choose to reclaim any IP they earned for any current or previous faction to start their new faction. Of the reclaimed IP, up to 50 IP may be removed to another planet, so that the new faction may have at least one planet with which to start their faction. If a new Faction Leader decides not to reclaim any portion of their IP from their former factions, the new faction will be given 50 IP to use anywhere on the map. New factions can only reclaim IP once and no IP may be reclaimed after the 50 free IP is taken. Reclaimed IP is deducted from the former faction's holdings. At the beginning of the campaign a faction begins with a total IP of its combined member's XP. For example, if the Faction Leader has 210 XP and 4 Faction Recruits join who each have 25 XP, the Faction begins with 310 IP. Faction Leaders will decide how the IP is allocated across the map, but all IP spent will be traced back to the Faction Recruits so that the IP may be reclaimed if they reach 75XP. Member Skills In addition to joining a faction, each person will choose a skill to specialize in. This skill is used for storytelling and challenge purposes and is not meant to restrict what a player can or cannot build. If you pick Technician that doesn't mean your character cannot also fly star-fighters. But it does mean that if a challenge requires an Ace skill, a Technician does not qualify. Each person needs to choose one of the main skill headings. Examples of each skill are listed in parentheses. For example, you should pick Ace, not Driver which is just an example of what an Ace skill might look like. Ace (Driver, Gunner, Pilot, Beast Rider) Engineer/Technician (Mechanic, Droid Specialist, Shipwright, Cyber Tech) Soldier (Commando, Foot Soldier, Sharpshooter, Heavy) Explorer (Scout, Trader, Archaeologist, Big-Game Hunter) Colonist (Homesteader, Community Elder, Councilman, Tradesman) Smuggler (Scoundrel, Thief, Gambler, Gunslinger) Bounty hunter/Hired gun (Assassin, Bodyguard/Enforcer, Marauder, Demolitionist) Diplomat (Ambassador, Agitator, Analyst, Propagandist) Guardian (Peacekeeper, Protector, Armorer, Warden) Commander (Squadron Leader, Tactician/Strategist, Figurehead, Instructor) Spy (Infiltrator, Informant, Slicer, Burglar) Your first skill is free. Multiple skills may be earned by accumulating 50 XP building for Factions, XP earned in SoNE does not count for skills in Factions. Earning and Using XP/IP/Credits Each player can earn XP (Experience Points). Each Faction can earn IP (Influence Points). Each freebuild a player submits can earn up to 50 XP. The average build will earn 1-10 XP. Builds that really stand out can earn 11-30 XP. Builds that show an immense amount of effort can earn 31-50 XP. For every XP a player earns, their faction will earn an IP. Each build submitted by a player will need to have a planet assigned to show where it takes place. Space builds can be assigned to the planet they are nearest to in space. The XP earned by these builds will earn IP for that specific planet. Builds will be scored and points will be earned throughout one month judging periods. Judges will try to judge builds as soon as possible, and points will be awarded as they do, but you should not expect your build to be judged in less than a month. If you build is not judged by that time, check with your Faction Leader and make sure you correctly completed the Submittal Form. -
Factions - Introduction, Discussion, and Core Rules
goatman461 replied to goatman461's topic in Factions Archive
Core Rules Main Objectives To have fun building in the Star Wars Universe! Our goal is to allow freebuilding without too many restrictions but with a semblance of order based around Faction Leaders. Builds are not restricted to single avatars, canonical timeframes, or well established planets. We want Factions to always have direction and purpose and as such we will try to always have a main challenge for the factions to work to complete. There will be plenty of other activities to keep a faction busy as well. Factions and Members are encouraged to write stories for their characters and focus on world-building within the Star Wars Universe. Main Challenges The first main challenge is to help your faction find and hold on to 2 or more Holocrons before the campaign ends. Doing so causes your team to "win" the campaign. Your faction only wins if they posses at least 2 Holocrons when the campaign ends, it does not count as a win if your faction had the Holocrons earlier in the campaign, only if they have them at the end. In the case of a tie with two or more factions having 2 or more Holocrons, the faction with the most Holocrons wins. In the case that 2 or more teams are tied for the most Holocrons, the team with the most XP will break the tie. When the 7th holocron is found, it will begin a 6 month countdown. At the end of those 6 months the winning faction will be decided. Other Building Events There will be other events that are unlocked as you build on different planets. These include: Era Builds - Time period builds set during various eras of Star Wars history. These include, but are not limited to: Old Republic, Clone Wars, Galactic Civil War, etc. CYOA - Choose Your Own Adventure style story campaigns. Bounty Hunter Missions - Same rules as before, but now each successful mission will net you 10 XP. -
Shortcuts Core RulesFactions/Member SkillsThe MapOther details Welcome! Welcome to Factions. A home for MOCs from all eras of Star Wars loosely tied together by a map-based strategy game. The game itself takes place after the battle of Jakku, but builds can represent any planet in any era of Star Wars. The goal of the strategy game is to find and control Holocrons. They are revealed by exploring planets and winning challenges. There are many different factions you can petition to join. Being a part of a faction allows you to participate in 'episodes' (challenges), build freebuilds to earn in-game XP, tags, and other rewards, as well as other aspects of the game. You'll have a main character in-game, and through your building, you can advance your character and help your faction win. Getting Started Private Message (PM) a faction leader to ask to join their faction. Each faction has it's own style, storyline, and aesthetic, so you'll need to create a character in line with whatever faction you petition to join. Faction description, requirements, and contact info can be found in each faction's post at the top of the Factions subforum. You may only create one character, even if you change factions; make it a good one with a flexible storyline. Create your character, upload a 100x100 picture to your preferred image host, and fill out the Character Creator form. You can choose any name for your character but please keep it appropriate. Players may change factions at any time, but faction leaders do not have to accept new recruits. Alternatively, when builders have earned 75 XP they can create their own faction. Introduce yourself in the Introduction and Discussion topic. Fill out the Character Creator form to have your character added to the active players list. (optional) Create a signature using this generator created by @Bob De Quatre. Please note that it does not currently support Flickr photos for the avatar. We hope to fix this soon. Read up on the Core Rules here! Where to Post What This subforum, Factions, is used for this game. As such, you should only post your entries to Star Wars Factions here. The Core Rules contains the rules; questions about the rules should be asked in this topic. Players should introduce characters in this Introduction and Discussion topic and fill out the Character Creator form. All posts in this Introduction and Discussion topic should be Out of Character. Each faction will have their own way of communicating, so check with your faction and discuss your upcoming builds, Works-in-Progress (WIPs), strategies, and storylines through whatever method your faction leader proscribes. Announce your free builds in your faction topic to receive feedback, but make sure to also fill out the appropriate form to have it scored. Episodes will be announced in their own topics, and you will be able to use those topics to ask questions about and discuss the specific episode. EB LEGO Star Wars Forum: Factions (coming this fall)

Each faction will have a dedicated post to explain their faction and recruit builders, so I hesitate to do that for them. If you're really itching to build, feel free to just pick whatever SW era inspires you the most and worry about fitting it into your faction later. We intentionally made this a flexible game that has room for all types of SW builds. (Considering some of your past builds, I'd suggest starting on Naboo. There's a lot of source material and it's flexible era-wise.) -

another tease... Galaxy Map-Factions Initial Planets -
It's a time of upheaval in the galaxy. The New Republic has just defeated the Empire at the Battle of Jakku. Those who fought in the Rebellion now have to adjust to being a part of a legitimate government, or find other means of employment. Those who fought for the Empire no longer have an Emperor to follow and must decide whether to align themselves with one of the many Imperial Admirals staking a claim or forge their own path. Those caught in the middle must adjust to a newlife and pray they can make a living under a new regime. Add to this turmoil the news that Holocrons of the Jedi have been rumored to be surfacing in various places across the galaxy. It is rumored that only a Jedi or Sith can unlock the true potential of a Holocron, but there are those who have been able to manipulate them enough to get at least some data. The data they've recovered speaks of an earlier age, a forgotten time. Days when Jedi and Sith fought across the stars. Or an army of clones sought to preserve the order of the Republic. There are many who will pay a hefty amount of credits or even kill for this data. Now, the New Republic, the fragments of the Empire, smugglers, bounty hunters, and anyone else who has access to a starship are seeking them.

Thank you! That sums up everything I was hoping to achieve with this one. And, yes, I'm pretty sure he dropped it.
