My next layout also depends on the release of @coaster 's r104 switches.... My dream layout would be an interpretation of Thunderclap Station from Steven King's Dark Tower series :D

You could always splice & dice your own conversion cable...

This should be interesting....

BrickTracks: different curves, PF/9V compatible
M_slug357 replied to JopieK's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Ooooh hot off the press!! Can't wait :D -
Whoa, nice to see that this topic is getting a lot of traction! Btw, is there a time limit/ min. #of votes for the poll? I'm just wondering out loud b/c I'd love to see the results for this. Personally, I'd love to have some sort of silver (not chrome) xL drivers... and finally finish this one project...
-
@benfleskes Would it be possible to get some new colors on offer? Off the top of my head, I wouldn't mind seeing silver, white, gold, and purple (or pink). Maybe create a poll to see how much interest there is, and what color to produce?

I'd say this topic should get the front page treatment!! -

@dylanfarrow I'm pretty sure Jang is a purist when it comes to the actual bricks, but he did/does do some minor electrical mods where appropriate. -

I agree with @dylanfarrow that this new kickstarter campaign should have its own shiny new thread!! Also, it may be good @coaster to have an open call for picture support from those that were able to get their hands on the prototypes? I know you have a few on the ks page already, but more couldn't hurt lol. Also, that very last pledge tier you have up is just... marvelous! but also, somewhat insane! Who's got the space/time to utilize 200 something swtiches??? I would totally jump on that if I could afford it though lol. -
(MOC) 4-4-0 American with pics and video and .lxf file
M_slug357 replied to sed6's topic in LEGO Train Tech
@sed6 I absolutely love this build! I only have two minor suggestions: 1) Needs decals to finish the look! 2) Have you considered a brick-built cowcatcher? The official piece (imho) is better suited to the 4-4-0's and 4-6-0's from the mid 1800's. Other than my nitpicking, this is fantastic work! -
@CrispyBassist Same here! i just want to fiddle around with the PF2 components already! It would be great if Lego released a promo video that showcases the PF2 components and any/all new features therein. What still baffles me is how TLG managed to make a worse-looking wave of trains when compared to the last two. However, in TLG's defense, there where the oddities in the 9V line as well. Just have a look at sets 4559 and 4561! These two sets tried to mesh freight and passenger service into one set, with hilariously bad results. So, maybe the first wave of PF2 train sets will be the ((wholly unnecessary)) oddities of their generation.) There is also another ((wildly speculative)) theory of mine, wherein those leaked images could be just a ruse by TLG to throw off those "other" clone brands... and the real train sets coming out later on actually look fantastic-- possibly better than 60098, 60052, and 60051...! but that's justa theory of mines...

There better be! I'm still wondering how multiple items are going to connect in PF2, because with PF1 & 9V one can essentially stack the connectors to infinity.

Hello fellow train heads, Today I have for your viewing pleasure a 9V system that's been adapted for Lego narrow gauge (4 stud wide) track: NG: 9V shunter (3) by Nick Jackson, on Flickr Here's the engine up close: NG: 9V shunter (1) by Nick Jackson, on Flickr And the underside: NG: 9V shunter (2) by Nick Jackson, on Flickr Now here's a video of it in operation: NG: 9V shunter (vid 1) by Nick Jackson, on Flickr It's pretty finicky in operation at the moment, so I'm looking for your input on ways that I can improve this system! The two main areas that need help are 1) the engine's traction and 2) the electrical pickups. Thanks in advance for your help! ~Nick J~

@ElectroDiva TLG could always rebrand/recolor the WV Station into HP's Hogsmeade Station....! hehe
-
My only concern with this is how it affects organic bodies? A disconcerting sign is that no one in either video is standing directly underneath the "light" during its operation... I'm mostly worried about people with pacemakers, people with metal limb replacement parts, and the select few that adorn tin-foil hats.... Although not having to change or charge the batteries in my trains? That's simply magnificent!!!
-
My only hope would be that they do the set justice by having the train windows in dark red.
-
lol, You didn't do anything wrong! I was just poking a bit of fun at the fact that the bogies use actual hatchets on them...!
-
WOWwwww This is amazing!!! My only critique is the hatchet job done on the jacobs bogies... #masterpiece Thank you for sharing!!

How much would people be willing to spend on a Creator Expert version of the Hogwarts Express....? -Around 100 usd, I'd imagine a set similar in size to the EN, -Around 200 to 300 usd, maybe 2 carriages and a loop of track, -Around 400 to 500 usd, 2-3 carriages + track loop + PF 2.0 + Hogsmeade Station (to tie in with the castle set) I'm not a HP fanboy, but am still a sucker for trains!

On my Class 08, I was able to place the receiver at the very back of the hood, right where it meets the cab (which is also 7 studs wide): Class 08 (5) by Nick Jackson, on Flickr But really, it only trades one problem for another. The cab roof is all one piece, but now there's a 2 stud long break in the curvature of the hood.
-
@ElectroDiva The roof is made out of semicircles of curved track combined with clear wall elements!! I think its one of the best uses of leftover curved rails to date.
-
Maybe they got a bunch of those 7937 train station sets? But even so, there are only 8 of those per set...! Whew, talk about disposable income!
-
@Digger of Bricks That's a cool obseravtion!! Definitely has potential to be a set because it looks to be part of an action (chase sequence?) set piece. However, I'd hazard a guess that if Lego did make a set based on said sequence, they'd more than likely use the newer rollercoaster track system? The only problem I see is that the train seems to occupy both the top and bottom sides of the track-- either one train at the same time, or two trains going in different directions. How would you build support structures for such a railway, especially the lower portion? Also, if more of the action sequence is inside of the train, versus on top of it or around it, Lego will more likely go for the easier option of recreating the interior portion of the fight. Then, there's the possibility of them showcasing a depot/station where the sequence either begins or ends. But that's just my over-analysis of the scenes in question.

Honestly, I'd go for whatever colors you could cheaply assemble the parts for, which are probably black and dark bley. Although, I am personally biased towards blue, light bley, and brown. I'm guessing that green and orange may be the more expensive color variants since they're toward the back oft he lineup? If this is your first rodeo, I recommend setting a budget for yourself-- either per each BrickLink store, or for the project overall. The problem (that I have at least) with ordering from BrickLink is the "kid in a candy store" effect, and then ending up way over-budget. Or worse, designing new projects right on the spot, just because a store had 'x' amounts of such-and-such fascinating part at a (seemingly) reasonable price... Also, try not to slide down the slippery slope of multiple color variants like I have......! Holiday Show (vid 5) by Nick Jackson, on Flickr Good Luck :)
