3D Printed 9V Train Track available now from OKBrickWorks
M_slug357 replied to legoman666's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Doesn’t look too bad for those of us that need a quick fix....! Might I suggest adding screw holes for mounting the track? While not extremely necessary, it would add to the illusion as well as (maybe?) save a few cents on plastic material? -
@Matt Dawson Thanks for agreeing with me! @Hod Carrier I <3 throwing wild theories out into the... uh wild... lol @Aanchir & @Laura Beinbrech I see your point(s), and have a counter offer: What if: (1) the new rendition of train wheels are actually just an all plastic version of the original 9V train wheels— where the axle goes through the wheels and has a resting point on both ends inside the 3x6 holster piece? (2) said new axle is actually just a 5.5 stud long bar minus that stopper ring bit, allowing for even more customization(s) to be had?
-
The problem that most of you don’t seem to realize with this new rendition of the train wheels is that we lose the ability to customize. If the wheels wind up being a singular piece, we’ll no longer be able to make custom wheel sets/ bogies without altering said piece (ie cutting them). Also, if this new piece comes warped or damaged straight out of the box, you have to throw the whole piece out. Currently, if any one of the three different elements is damaged, (while still annoying) they are fairly easy to replace.

@technic70s I certainly hope this isnt true, seeing as we’ve just barely had the jump to the new PuP system— and have yet to see the whole range of items from this!! The only way I could stomach such a change to these iconic train parts would be if the “standard” sized train wheel and 3x6 holster were to be made in alternative colors (in the near future??)... For example, if they brought back the light bley version of the 3x6 holster...! And then maybe the 9V train wheel in blue or green? Hell, maybe even in white or pink...? ...I’d slap some sewer babies for wheels in gunmetal grey...

Press Release: Creator Expert 10269 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy

Speaking of motors, has there been any news about the PuP renditions of the L and xL motors? While I really do want a re-release of the EN, I think it’d be excellent this time around if: -It’s coach’s length is extended OR it comes with two coaches instead of one, -It comes with some straights to display it on.- 129 replies

That's awesome! Just needs a few microfigs to fill it out, along with a structure or two?
-
@LEGO Train 12 Volts Thanks for this! How many of those dark red 1x2s did you use on this awesome project?
-
Oh god... this theme could be dead on arrival if it isnt very flexible... I can see it now: Some kid builder getting frustrated at the app for repeatedly crashing... and all because they forgot to place like one chesse wedge piece... thats not even on the side their device’s camera is aimed at... And that’s bad. I hope this ramp piece can fix it?
-
I wonder what that weird ramp piece is for exactly? We couldn’t get a new cross-track, switch, curve, straight, etc., piece? But we get this ramp/re-railer thingy? But hey, it looks like this set comes with a station at least?
-
@fred67 You forget that some of the better freight sets from the 80s & 90s had small two-axle cars... but I agree that it does seem as though TLG is cheaping out a bit.
-
@legonerd54321 Thats a possibility! Its also possible that it just has a larger assortment of ridiculously large elements? Is anyone else feeling like there definitely should’ve been a Ghostbusters’ tie in, but TLG couldn’t strike up a decent deal?
-
Yeah... there aren’t any pics of the train probably because it’ll be... underwhelming to say the least. I wonder if it’ll be steam or diesel?
-
hehehehehehe What if it was supposed to really be 799.99€ ?
-
@XG BC Not a bad idea, but wouldn’t it be simpler to use the same elevation technique used for regular train track — one plate rise per segment?

Two Powered Up motors for the 60198 cargo train engine
M_slug357 replied to legotownlinz's topic in LEGO Train Tech
@ElectroDiva I too need to hone my soldering skills. @legotownlinz Have you stress tested your setup? How is power output & consumption now that both motors are linked to the same channel? -
Yeah, but TLG could’ve just as easily called it a tram, trolley, gondola, rail car, people-mover, etc instead of “monorail”...
-
I'll do you one better with a video demonstration: NG: 9V shunter (vid 1) by Nick Jackson, on Flickr The two main problems were traction and electrical contact. If I had more time & know-how...!
-
The main point being that the powered wheels adhere to a single rail. Like the original Lego Monorail system— the geared wheel adheres to the central rail despite two additional “rails” for stability’s sake.

BrickTracks: different curves, PF/9V compatible
M_slug357 replied to JopieK's topic in LEGO Train Tech
@fred67 I can’t say that I’ve used the tape on a whole layout or in a seriously long-term setup... but the kind of tape I’m using is on the thicker side— its actually a tad difficult to bend into shape to be honest. I’m confident it’ll last a decent amount of time, but I should probably do some testing regardless. -
OmG I agree! Ppl, the rollercoaster track is NOT monorail track!! Although... it would be massively impressive if someone engineered a way to have a single train per railhead......?
-
@scruffulous This is pretty sane tbh... I thought I was losing it when I started working on a 9V track powered narrow gauge system... lol I had to take a break, but may go back to it...?

BrickTracks: different curves, PF/9V compatible
M_slug357 replied to JopieK's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I agree that the tape’s own adhesive is fairly weak in general, and is definitely the weakest at those junctions. What helps with the longevity of those weak points is establishing a more permanent layout... -

I’m considering selling my RC straights, r120s and r104s that I’ve applied conductive metal tape to, but I need to figure out a faster and more reliable way to apply said tape... -
At this point I just want to see a small shunter that’s small enough to warrant a recolor of the PUP battery box!!
