  1. Okay...I'll believe that when I see it. I like how everyone is just supposed to take everyone else's word for things around here. Where's the proof that lego does that?
  2. I know that, but I was asking, inside of lego, the first line of buildable figures was Throwbots/slizers right?
  3. Thanks man. I'm glad I have something I'm proud of to present as my first MOC here.
  4. Wasn't the first line of buildable figures the Throwbots or had lego tried something earlier than that?
  5. Agreed, and keeping that in mind, I don't want them to bring Bionicle back. When asking whether He would ever reunite the band Kyuss, Josh Homme(Queens Of The Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, Kyuss, Desert Sessions) says "no because It was special, and I don't want to bring it back just to rub my dick all over it" and Bionicle coming back in a stripped down simplified version of what Hero Factory is now would be exactly that. I think we just need to be happy for the time it had and move on. Its not like Hero Factory as a system of building doesn't work with Bionicle. I maintain that the two actually extremely well and both make up for the other's short comings. I think if Lego did bring Bionicle back in some way, it should be in another several years, and as that kind of nod to the era, like benny's spaceship. Pull the old molds out of storage and make a nice promotional set or something. Something in the lego Movie sequel would be pretty rad to. A bionicle figure in a Lego Movie set along with some system stuff? How rad would that be?
  6. Wow Pate. I had glanced at this on Flickr but didn't really give it a good look till now. I didn't notice how the monster had that concaved throat. Wonderful job with the shaping there and throughout the Monster/blobs. However I can't get past the fact that the Matoran looks exactly like Takua. Was that intentional? If you said that was a Takua revamp I would have said wonderful job, you nailed him. :P I also see what you're saying about the yellowed brick. It does give it a kind of dingy unhappy place feel, but I don't think it quite sells it. It needs to be a bit dingier for that look to really come across. Maybe it does more so in person. Either way its still a wonderful MOC with a lot of great brick shaping and NPU.
  7. Hi everyone. For those of you interested, here's the first MOC I've completed since joining Eurobricks and marks the beginning of posting my MOCs on Eurobricks as well as Deviantart, Flickr, and MOCpages(when I remember to ^^;). About the MOC: This is a MOC that happened kind of by accident or on a whim. After seeing Alex-Darkrai:'s Grind Star I was inspired to use my Dark red and black Marbled/gradient parts to make something. The end result became a chopper style motorcycle. I suppose thinking about how the wheels come from the Furno Bike or Speeda Demon's motorcycle is what led me to go the direction of a chopper. I started with an initial idea for the front forks which turned out very well. Then I spent three days on the rear wheel. I didn't illustrate it here in the photos but when you turn the rear wheel, a series of gears connected to the turntable part on the other side make the hub/rim counter rotate. So if this chopper was roaring down the street the back rim would be spinning the opposite direction. This is probably one of the most complicated pieces of functional design I've ever created. I spent three days just working on this section alone. I first got it, then I spent two days refining it so that the turn table and rim were closer to the wheel. Now I had sort of a back and a front and had to bridge the two. I struggled with this until I finally scrapped the front fork design keeping the ideas I liked(like the Pyrox mask and the Piraka feet), doing a lot of research by looking up many photos of the key areas of a chopper to really understand how they work and build the MOC like an actual chopper(i.e making the frame, then connecting the forks, building the engine, transmission, gas tank, etc). This was quite an interesting build in the sense that it's both symmetrical and asymmetrical at the same time. It was a lot of fun chunking through this build one actual part of a motorcycle at a time. I felt like one of the guys on those chopper shows like Orange County Choppers or Biker Buildoff that used to be popular on The Discovery channel. This is the first MOC of mine to really benefit from me moving my laptop into my MOC room. I relied heavily on photo searching Google to look at the different aspects of choppers. Looking back on it I realize I went for a "simplified realism" approach. The chopper features things like head and tail lights, license plate, gas tank with spout, brake controls and brake lines on the handle bars, functional drive line(wheel connected by Technic chain to "transmission" which is connected via belt drive to motor), engine with fuel line and semi-realistic foot controls(clutch). Though I didn't get too obsessed with the details. I thought about adding things like gauges and other technical bits, but felt they would have distracted from the simpler edgier look of the bike. Thinking back on it, the license plate is probably a bit much as well. =P The nice thing about Choppers is there's a great many kind, from very commercial to customization to the extreme of impracticality and everything in between. This in a way was freeing because I could make it as long or as short as I wanted, make the gas tank or seat however I wanted and I even came across some that had an open sided wheel like this one has. This also presented a bit of a challenge as I had to look at many different kinds of cycles to see what the "common denominators' where. At the end of the day. I think I did a good job recreating a chopper fairly accurately thanks to having a laptop handy to reference photos. Man I shoulda gotten into the habit of taking my laptop in with me ages ago. Now it'll be a permanent fixture in my MOC room. I got the idea to call it Cerberus fairly early on, but the reason for it changed about midway through. Initially I was going to call it Cerberus thinking that it would figuratively have three heads, the Pyrox mask on the front wheel, the Kalmah head as the gas tank, and the rider's actual head. However several other head pieces were added as I finished out the build. So now I count the pyrox head and the two wolf heads on the handle bars as its "three heads." For those of you who might not know, Cerberus is a rather famous figure in ancient Greek Mythology. He is typically depicted as a three headed dog with serpents all over his body, though modern depictions show him mostly as three headed dog of some sort. The serpents don't tend to stay. Cerberus guarded the gates of Hades to keep anyone from escaping. The Twelfth trial of Hercules was to subdue Cerberus without the use of any weapons. Thank you for reading, viewing and commenting. :D I hope you enjoyed my first official MOC posting on Eurobricks.
  8. Alright, thank you for that. I suppose if this is something they talk about only in presentations at conventions and photography isn't allowed there probably isn't a linkable source to it. That's a shame. I agree with you, if its that small then we are definitely not in mind when they produce the majority of their sets. Thanks for providing as best an answer you could.
  9. I don't know why people have such an issue with color schemes. I personally think its awesome. It is definitely iridescent, maybe even a little garish, but its a pretty cool and maybe even unique color scheme. I think the seat as a foot looks more like you trying to use a part for using a parts sake. I don't think it quite works as a foot. Maybe if you spun them around so the longer end is facing forward, that might look cool. But definitely dat color scheme.
  10. Don't suppose there's a video of this? ooo see, that's more like it. Is the Magazine called "The Brick" and is there a possible link to this article on their or a website? I googled it and got a ton of results. "The Brick" is too generic and Brick Magazine is a bianual literary journal...that's not what I wanted was it? Like I said before, I don't doubt you guys, I'd just like to see for myself from the actual source.
  11. Skull, skin and hair...that's what's on my mind. :P

  12. Okay, I'm not saying you're wrong, but where is the statistical data and the hard proof of that? I want numbers and graphs and so on. I'm asking if any of that information is public or in a database somewhere.
  13. I haven't read anyone else's posts, so I apologize if I'm asking a question that's pretty much already been answered, but is anyone else like really disappointed with this year's Hero Factory sets(whether you have them already or not)? I'm American so we don't even have wave one yet. So far I think I only want one or two, maybe Evo's XL machine if I can afford it, and Wave 2 maybe the same two or three sets from that, and the rest is a total wash for me. I'm far more interested in LoC's Legend Beasts and Ultrabuilds and Mixles this year than HF. Anyone else feel the same? @Brickbuilder3213 NICE thanks for sharing. I'm so getting one. @cirkit Agreed, adorkable! I want one, or two, or five(like I got of the black brain) and hold onto for future financial opporunities (is there an evil laugh emote?). How sad is it that I like the polybag more than a lot of the actual sets? XD
  14. I love that Lavel's main has been recolored to trans-neon orang(from the look of the photo). I haven't gotten the first version either but this one's very tempting for all that gold, and the printed shield looks interesting to. Wow Mungus is that big fig in the playsets? There it makes sense. Here, wow that's just sad. I'm surprised they didn't give one of the higher price point slots to him. Parts wise he looks interesting for the brown bone recolor and those hammer parts. Though I'm definitely getting Sir Fangar first. Its amazing how giddy MOCers get over cuts of cloth. Of all of these sets the only one that makes me go "meh" is the Panther dude. There's not really anything about him that makes him worth a damn other than maybe his head. Every other part from the looks of him come in something else. All the ice guys have recolors of bones and/or hands and feet, Vardy's got the icy saw blade and his head looks fairly non descript, good for repurposing as well as the blue/white new feather elements, Mungus has his hammer, Sir Fangar is a badass with a new tattered cape(squee) and those new feet in white, Lavel has gold feet and what looks like recolors of the second smallest HF armor part(we'll just call that recolor sexiness), Fluminox is also a badass with new feather parts and his own recolor sexiness, and Gragger's giving us some more dark green. Is it me or is this one wave of Chima UB's way better than the entire line of Hero Factory this year? Hero Factory=huge disappointment Chima UB's=some kind of redemption.
  15. In this photo I instead used clear lego elements so that they'd have less impact on the photograph. They can be a little harder to make and support your MOC but if you can get your hands on some of the clear technic beams and other trans-clear parts, it might work better for what you need.
  16. HI everyone I just wanted to post a thread linking to my Deviantart Gallery and Flickr Photostream Just to give a general access to my MOCs. If you'd like to discuss any specific MOC here in this thread though I think that's okay(its okay with me if its okay with the moderators). I didn't want to just start throwing up random MOCs all of a sudden since I'm new here and I've got so many already. If you've got a flickr or DA account I certainly don't mind comments there, but a thread with some discussion here would be nice to. Still trying to get the hang of posting here. I guess a question might be helpful to get a discussion going huh? (hey what do you know a question ) My question is, if you know of me already what's your favorite MOC of mine, if you've never seen any MOCs from me, does any particular one stand out to you the most? Thanks for any faves, watches, and comments in advance.
  17. When you put it that way it does make sense. There's merit to both views. On one hand kids will go "Ummmm no I want a ___ this time instead of a bionicle" they're very fickle and lego knows that so they make pretty much every decision to try and retain that attention. While, yes an older demographic can and usually does grow out of it, I think that's mostly due to dialog and social perception. "you're getting too old to be playing with lego." Guys like you, myself and the AFOL community either never listened, got out of it only to realize it was dumb to ever stop liking it in the first place(hence the term dark ages.) I personally never had one. I just kept going. I think if lego changed their age ratings to *number here* and up, instead of "ages 6-12" across the board that would help, maybe even in just a small way convey that no one's ever too old for lego. I'd actually like to see an active marketing campaign from lego where they say that, a little icon or slogan on the box somewhere. Yes lego is a toy meant for kids, but it's far much more than that. I think people on some level understand that. The Lego Movie is a big stride in this endeavor to. It really opened the dialog and even visually shows that Lego's aren't just for kids. Why else would they have "1980's something space man(benny)" in there? (and if you've seen the movie you know what else I'm referring to). This ties back into how I think lego really undercut themselves and continue to do so with their themes. Clearly they understand the adult consumer exist, Architecture, the modular buildings and any of the advanced builder sets wouldn't exist if they didn't. And really who's the $600 Death Star set really for? If I could relay one message to the people at lego its that they need to realize all lego is for everyone, not just this theme for that target demo, and so on. I'm sure you probably know more about this than I do, do you know of what kind of measures lego takes to know what themes and products the older demographics buy? The only polls or survey questions I can recall answering from lego specifically are ones pertaining to the online shopping site. I know there's the CEE, but beyond that what does lego really do to get an understanding of where its at for older groups? I look around on Bricknerd, TBB and The New Elementary and I see TLM, Castle, Star wars, city, lots of the "not the specifically adult" themes. I've actually only seen The New Elementary cover any of those with Caper's posts about the Architecture sets he reviewed. Also is there any kind of data on how much the AFOL community makes up of the market for lego? I keep hearing that the AFOL community is a huge minority and that just doesn't make sense when I see how many there are out there and how much lego they buy and use.
  18. I think another critical aspect lego seemed to overlook with this theme is they scaled the demographic down when they probably should have kept it the same or even advanced it a little further. Targeting older teenagers and young adults while still making it something appropriate for younger kids would have served two purposes. Firstly it would have retained the audience from Bionicle who were either already old enough to appreciate its complexity and darker more serious tones. People such as myself Got into bionicle year one. I was 13 when bionicle came out. I was the target Demographic at taht time. I grew up and kept with it. Granted I'm sure a lot of people did outgrow it but we also see hat a good portion of people stayed with it. So lego dropped the ball and alienated a lot of fan base they had alread had, and not just by ending Bionicle. My stance there is pissed off fanboys need to get the heck over it. Bionicle had a good run and it was time for a change. But Lego really alienated the fanbase much further by "dumbing down' the theme. This is ultimately why nothing you could really say will get me to be impressed or interested about Hero Factory's story. I watch the specials cause they're amusing(even being so terrible they're funny). Come 2010 Lego had this fanbase that had grown up with a constraction theme or had kids who would have grown into HF had it retained a more complex nature. Instead they opted for the 6-12 year old range and went for the novelty aspect as lego often does. NOTE: I absolutely love the CCBS style of parts, I'm speaking solely about the story aspect of HF. Secondly, catering to the same slightly older audience would have enticed younger children to get involved. You look at any toy commercial and a lot of the times the kids in the commercial are a few years older than the demographic. That's a classic advertising technique. Lego could have taken this to a whole new level by actually targeting both demos at the same time. Little kids love doing what ever older kids are doing. Overall, I think there could have been a happy medium here, but lego totally lopped off the top half of their demographic, who probably would have been more faithful and loyal buyers of the theme. Kids are going to get their parents to buy them what ever appeals to them in the moment, an older audience will buy into the theme because its the next year's theme, it serves a deeper purpose. Mesonak has a point though. With the story being terrible, the builds being lack luster, I go buy what ever set because I want the parts. I just bought two Thornraxx' the other night instead of one of two figures because I'd rather double up on that set's parts. Nowadays its all about the parts for me. The story aspect is pretty much dead to me. That's fundamentally shaped my view of Hero Factory and determines how I review sets. Its all purely from a MOCing and set buying perspective for me now. I agree with Aanchir, I think they'll definitely keep to the humanoid figure concept. Though robots, that to me is up in the air. I just can't help but notice that this years Chima UB's have their own style of armor and weapons. So clearly they're not above using the CCBS system but giving it a different flavor for a different theme. While I'd miss the robotic theme because lets face it, its what we've known for 15 years(counting slizers in 1999), something different might be refreshing. *shrugs*
  19. Thanks Aanchir. I see, its good to know that that particular building system has a name for it.Is there any hints to what the new series might be? Its a brand new series starting next year right?
  20. I thought about it, didn't think a whole thread was necessary, just wanted to say a quick hello here on the action figure thread since that's probably the only place I'll be posting, I would love some Eurobrick do's, don't's, decorum and etiquette tips though. Are there private message abilities here? I'm sorry, what does CCBS stand for? I've not heard of this term before. I'm pretty sure there's a lot of terms used here that I'm unprivy to. I'm the same way though, At this point I don't care what they call it I just want a constraction system so I can keep MOCIng. Hero Factory was never about the stories, characters or builds even for me. Even the best builds in HF I thought were mediocre, for me it was all about the parts. I think the system they came up with is really nice, I feel that between HF and BIonicle, the two really balance each other out quite nicely and make up for each other's short comings.
  21. This doesn't at all surprise me. WIth The LoC Ultrabuilds having what looks like new armor and weapon parts developed for them with their own flavor, and the lack of interest/development on this year's lineup, I think we're starting to see the whole "Lego checking out" Hero Factory. Its what they did with the final year or so of Bionicle. Videos like these makes me think that Lego likes the current form of Constraction elements, but maybe not the theme that comes attached to it. I think a lot of people are worring about the plot lines and I think maybe lego doesn't feel they need to tie that up. If they want to dump out of Hero Factory in 2015 they will probably just do it. I think if they're willing to just jump from one story to the next without even wrapping up the last one, this whole thing might end with a lot of roads leading to nowhere, much like Bionicle had. That's just my two cents at least.Also...Hooray, my first post ever on Eurobricks. *waves* Hi everyone I'm new here. My name's Dave. I'm a BioMOCer mostly known on Deviantart. I go by the same name there and Thirdeye88 on Flickr.
