The beast head works really well as a turtle head. Its the prefect shape. Too bad it doesn't come in green(yet, but probably won't unless Lego utilizes the part later for something else). Very clever usage of that head. :D The shell looks a little off but I guess since it's a space snapper that's supposed to look more like a flying saucer?

OH MY GAAAAWD MY EYEEEEEESSSSSSSS THEY BURNNN!!!!.... Just kidding. DUDE 1,000% improved on the color scheme. Still don't dig the cod plate thing but that's just my personal taste. That chest looks so awesome now and I think the head has a much more fitting shape to the roundness of the shoulder slopes. *applauds*

I made that same comparison on DA in my LoC update journal when someone commented about the video. Glad to see them harkening back to cool features like that. Maybe. Guess we'll find out when we get the sets. *shrugs*

That's wishful thinking if I ever saw it. All the TV spots are about 22 minutes. Go look. They're 22 minutes because with commercials that comes out to a half hour which is pretty standard programming. IFB wasn't the only year to get a single episode. Brain attack and 2.0 got only one episode as well.

You're welcome. I suggest you start off on youtube. Then you could listen to a few of each band's songs back to back.

it looks like its trans clear, but its kind of frosty looking. It couldn't be somehting like what the crystal takanuva mask was made of could it? Like wise, I'm more eager for this than I was all of IFB. I'm definitely going for fangar first for that cape. *loves capes* Cloth is such a versatile element to MOC with. Its nice that Furno XL gave us a good whole cape last year and we're getting a tattered one this year. Now if they'd just do other colors than black.

I guess I need to clarify. I keep no set together. They all come apart and get used for MOCing at some point. I might have it done in a few days and when I do I'll post it, but I'm actually workin on revamping a MOC of mine that uses a lot of system, HF and Bionicle all at once. So that'll show how I really do utilize the varous main systems. Its not overly technic based, but with my last MOC I posted here I showed how I can heavily utilize that as well. I just happened to buy more system sets this last chirstmas because My dad came into some money in 2013 and I got all of HF BA. Wasn't much else to focus on and I do want to increase my library of system parts. I'm sort of refamiliarizing myself with system and what kinds of things can be done with it. Buying on BL is definitely an option but I don't exactly know what to get if I did. Ya know? I find a good use for a part by having it in my hands and moving it around on a MOC. And now I'm just spent until I get more spending money so I haven't gotten any IFB sets yet. Its in the plans though.I agree, the CCBS definitely lends more to system inclusion than bionicle did. And the character association is a big difference between now and then. I still call certain parts in bionicle "a metru shin or thigh armor" or associate it to what theme or line it came from. Its a nomenclature that works within the community though. I find the names we use for HF a little confusing because they are more vague though.

Like I said, I've been getting more system than ever. I haven't really said much on the latest action figure buy thread cause I've focused more on system this time. I got a Hobbit set(it was on sale), and three Galaxy Squad sets over the Christmas season and when the new stuff hit my store shelves I got two Legend Beasts cause I was honestly more interested in them and the Mixels than IFB. I also got a couple EF sets back in the day. I've noticed like back then it took a few years for designers to figure out "hey this can be used for ___ over here." I think we're starting to see that in HF. Think about it, it was what 2004-06 when we started seeing bionicle in system sets? Its taken about that long for HF to make it there to. It was mostly EF and Vikings to get Bionicle parts right. Trying to think of anything else to feature bionicle parts a lot. Racers I guess? But not to the same extent. I hope they keep it up and we see even more CCBS stuff in other themes. Would love to see another year of Galaxy Squad with some cool CCBS recolors and printings for it.
-
Wow that's pretty cool! I'm quite relieved to read that. :) This basically confirms our suspicions that the CCBS system will be with us a while. And that makes a lot of sense actually. I myself have taken to buying more system now than I ever did when bionicle was around. Them blending the new system into other themes like Chima and the Super Hero UBs definitely helps with that to I think. I look at some of those Chima system sets and Ultra Agents and they're far more appealing to me because they contain HF parts in colors we don't have in HF or a dedicated CCBS system yet. Do those long HF armor parts com in Bright light Orange(keetongu orange/yellow if you prefer) in an actual HF set?

I'm of the same opinion, it was the shape of the joint itself, but the 2007 was definitely materials used, so maybe it still was a mixture of both issues, just more so the designs rather than the materials. I think your theory of the slots account for the expansion and after a while the lack of tension of the earlier joints. But I think the critical component of them breaking is the outer hoop parts. I think they were a little thinner and with the lack of expansion from the slots the stress was too much for that part. The new joints retain the new slotless design but significantly beefed up those outer hoops so that they can now handle the extra stress from the lack of give on the other end of the socket cup.

The only noted broken HF parts I've broken is the one claw part like Dorek mentioned, some the newer version of the exo force arms(thicker ones), and a couple of the HF 1.0 arm/leg parts. Other than that HF bones and armor are pretty resilient for me. I'm not extraneously rough on my parts and I'm surprisingly good at not accidentally stepping on them in my MOC room if left out. I've even noticed that the HF variant of the fist part is stronger. I used those in Matteo for his hip connection. Being the single joint that held on his whole leg the red, dark red and black ones broke. I eventually conceded and use the HF variant even though I don't want HF and anything newer than 2010 parts on him. I haven't had a problem with that joint connection breaking since. Lego really beefed up the hoops that clasp the ball when they redesigned them. I've yet to have any of those kind break. I don't know what you guys are doing to your HF parts to have them break.

Ah okay. Well a lot of jazz is instrumental. And I can suggest a few instrumental rock bands if you want a rock vibe with no lyrics. Check out Russian Circles, Pelican, Mogwai, and Mono for some instrumental rock stuff. RC and Pelican tend to be on the heavier end Mogwai varies a lot and Mono is pretty chill from what I've heard.

I understand that and I'm in complete agreement with that criticism about it being done and over with before my garden gnomes have had a chance to thaw out(Oh who am I kidding, I live in California, its never too cold here). And I agree with Vinyl Scratch. Wooooo a two page comic and maybe a few other derpy things that have nothing to do with the actual story. I can't tell if my excitement meter twitched a little or if it's just me flicking it to see if its still responding. XD

I really agree with Korpen's response. Yes, I was saying "don't like it, don't watch it then." However, the emphasis was more on the fact that people act like they have to follow the story then are disappointed and unhappy with it. Like I said its Optional you don't have to follow it if you aren't enjoying. That's why I generated the Morpheus Meme and included it. At this point the story aspect feels more like an obligation than anything. If lego went the rout of Galaxy Squad Like Aanchir mentioned I'd be fine with that if things like IFB are going to be what they put on the table. Give us sets with a loose quick little description and let us be on our way to MOCing and set/new parts appreciation. I have a few of the GS sets and I liked how the narrative didn't really get in the way. I understood what was going on and got right to enjoying the sets as builds and the new parts I got from them. "Oh that's a cool generic space marine dude. I'm sure the minifig guys dig this" *slips him into tiny ziplock bag and tosses in drawer with other sealed up minifigs and enjoys set* There was no "Aww man they made Jack McBugmurder lame this time around I liked him more in wave 1." Since Lego insists on adding a story element to HF then I suggest following it with low expectations and when it lives up to them, don't be surprised or disappointed. Like Korpen said, don't just complain about it. Pretty much from the beginning I'd watch an episode and go "that was lame, but mildly amusing" and carry on about my activity as a MOCer, it wasn't untill IFB that its quality was shockingly bad to the point I bothered voicing my opinion about it(like writing a journal on DA titled "OH THE HORROR").

I know what you mean I came sooo close to adding a character in the Hero Factory world with Rodney Dieter, but then I went and created my own world of sentient robots and tied Grayskay., 5pr1nt3r and, Furnace which are all older MOCs into that world as well. And now its a world about Sentient robot liberation. I just could never find anything that interesting to build on the HF theme, but there's a lot more room to do so than bionicle. Its much easier to say "this guy is a Hero who operates on Planet blah blah as a blah blah specialist" or something like that. I still like to throw my own MOCs into the Bionicle Universe and it takes at least an hour or two of researching Biosector01 to get the necessary information about a particular place and knowing how to weave my character into the fabric of the lore in a more natural way. Its a bit of a challenge but I enjoy it. A good example of me doing that I think is Turaga Kumignasi. Well think about it. The first year had 4 episodes(plus some other stuff to right?), 2.0 only one, then Savage planet and Breakout had two, then BA and IFB only one again. So its been pretty inconsistent as well.
-
Definitely sounds that way from what everyone's saying. I know what IFB set I'm getting first now(still don't have any). This was a great topic who ever started it.
-
What kind of stuff were you listening to before you migrated to classical?
-
Its really that simple guys. If you're not happy with the story or pacing of it for HF, stop following it. I've watched the TV spots because up until IFB they've at least been somewhat amusing. But I've never been all that invested in the story. I'm into HF purely for the sets, and even then its for the parts. The builds are lack luster and (again) amusing at best. This feels very much like the bionicle comics getting thinner every year. Lego's Checkin out on HF maan. The end is nigh...

Why do you feel required to wear headphones? You can't just have the music playing on a device in the background? There's always wireless headphones if you wanna spring for em. A headset would work to.What kind of music do you put on for a themed MOC, do you have any specific examples?
-
Mini-ball joints might work. This is a system MOC so you'll have no trouble incorporating them. If you do switch out the ankle joints for the mini-ball joint pieces please let me know how it holds up. I'm curious to know how much weight those things can handle and how they perform when weight is put on them.

Thanks Doc. I'd love to get more into the technic stuff. But I'd still mix it up with this stuff. I just don't have the parts. I've really neglected getting technic back when I could more regularly buy lego sets. Now they're mostly out of my price range. I tried making a flatbed truck a little while back but I gave the project up because I couldn't get the steering+suspension system to work well enough. It wasn't responsive enough with a bunch of weight all on the front end. I'm glad you commented. I could use a technic guy to get advice from. I've asked a few(sariel and sheepo) but they couldn't really be bothered. Sariel just told me to go buy a technic set and I never even heard back from Sheepo. I like that Orange Muscle car you're working on. What is that suppose to be, the front end looks familiar but I can't place it. I wanna say its a Pontiac GTO but that's just a stab at a guess. Its too square for a Mustang so a charger or challenger maybe?

I posted it here because I honestly don't care what MOCers outside of the constraction group listen to. I know its a bit off topic and more a general question. But I'm really only interested in this community and what goes on here. hence the posting to the action figure forum instead of general. Feel free to port the thread there though. I just wanted to hear from you guys more specifically.Ah okay. So its not a big deal for you. Gotcha. I'm the total opposite. I feel a palpable sense of silence when I'm MOCing and no music is on. Its actually more distracting for me it being dead quiet than there being even the most frantic distorted "wall of noise" type music. I'm a musician so while I don't think I have a heightened sense of hearing(probably the opposite thanks to all the concerts and band practices I've attended over the years), I have a very learned sense of hearing. I'm extra aware of sounds. So the slightest bump or creek of the house distracts me. Music is a way to drown out those distracting noises, while also occupying that part of my brain I guess. It can also be a great mood stabalizer or uplifter. If I go in feeling crummy about what ever's going on in my day I can put on a favorite album of mine like QOTSA's Songs For The Deaf, or maybe Russian Circle's new album Memorial, which has some really uplifting parts in it and once I get MOCing I feel much better. Music is essential to my ability to MOC without distraction. Its a way to "clear out" my head space and focus on the parts. I only use itunes. With a 100+ CD collection I don't need radio, or pandora or google blah or what ever. I love the playlist feature in Itunes. I have several playlists and I listen to them quite a lot. Good ol shuffle is nice to. Then its this super eclectic random Juke box of all sorts of things. Many manners of Rock, Metal, Jazz, symphonic, some classical here and there, and even a few pop tunes from some of my soundtracks(like House M.D). I keep going back to my instrumental one for MOCing though. Nothing like some good ol LOTR, Assassin's Creed, Pirates of the Caribbean, or one of the many other Hans Zimmer soundtracks playing in the background. Hell yeah man! Love King Crimson. Anything before Discipline I don't care for as much. I definitely like the Adrian Belew era onward. Rush is cool but geddy's voice gets annoying after a few songs. Never listen to buckethead. Recommend anything? You don't have an ipod/MP3 player? That and a little speaker with an 8millimeter jack should suffice. It did for me before I got a new computer and moved my laptop into my MOC room. Something like a TV would be super distracting for me. Its weird how music is fine for me but talking or the random noises from a TV really interfere with my "Zen" like Exxtropper said. Funny thing is my MP3 player is a Zen by Creative technologies. Lol I know what ya mean man. Its an important part of my Zen as well. I have playlists on itunes for my music. I also buy CD's so I have an extensive record collection. But I also download music online through torrents. If I like something after hearing it, I go buy it when I can. So for me, My itunes library is my youtube playlist. Its nice cause then I don't have to mess with youtube and if the internet is out for some reason I'm not stuck without any tunes. I can keep doing my thing.

Its nice seeing MOCs get that kind of response to. It makes me eager to post my next MOC here. Glad I could help in any small way. :)

This topic might be a little off topic. But I was wondering what you guys listen to(if anything) while you're MOCing. Do you have particular genres or playlists that you find more suitable to MOCing? Personally, I really like my instrumental play list for "in general" MOCing music. Its comprised of a lot of video game and movie Soundtracks, and things like Two Steps From hell, just general "epic" theme music. I find instrumental stuff is less distracting than music with lyrics to it. I also listen to a lot of instrumental post rock/metal bands so when I want a Guitar/bass/drum vibe I play my post rock/metal playlist, even though there are things in there with vocals its got a lot that isn't. I'll also try and find fitting music for a specific MOC to even more inspire me or get me in the right mindset. Like for the Cerberus Chopper. I tried finding a lot of hard rock, and had Godsmack on heavy rotation, something I felt a modern day biker might listen to. You guys ever listen to music based on what might fit your MOC or what it might listen to?
