  1. Assembling all Republic Troopers and Sith Troopers from several Old Republic Battlepacks I felt that instead of that speeder they should have included a Sith War Droid as seen in the game trailers. So I decided to build one myself in scale to the minifigs. I've not seen a lot of these around the internet, so this was an additional incentive. The legs proved to be tricky, but I'm very pleased with the result. Here we go: And a size comparison to Malcolm: Nothing huge, but I hope you like it.
  2. I just pulled a non-printed flesh-coloured minifig head out of my Sith Trooper Battle Pack. How rare is that, and is it worth anything (for custom print minifig designers, for example)?
  3. Very cool. Now you have to build a yellow submarine for them!
  4. I got the Sith Fury Class Interceptor, Republic Striker Class Starfighter and 1 Old Republic Battlepack for 80 Euros today.
  5. I never got why the heck it is so important for a saga consisting of movies, novels, animated series, computer games and other media and which spans different eras and characters to be all consistent. Real life recorded history isn't truly consistent, so why should this? I really don't care if a continuation or prequel to story contradicts or is at odds with details, as long as it is good and compelling. This whole strict canon thinking in my eyes is the realm of extreme fanNerds. I don't see why the novel continuation of the OT, for example, cannot or should not exist alongside Disney's new approach, since it will for many fans no matter what the powers that be say or claim.
  6. Contrary to the majority so far in this thread, I'm all for variety and creativity as opposed to a strict 'only original trilogy'-policy, even though I'm a die-hard fan of the OT. So, I'm a bit sad, because I've come to like quite a lot of EU elements outside of the OT or PT. I don't care much for marketing, and if they steer clear from EU stuff, I'm looking forward to see what custom minifig creators will come up with and shove a huge middlefinger right into the face of Lucasfilm's and Disney's marketing zombies.
  7. To be honest, I, too, was a bit offput by the new print. But I guess it's just a matter of getting used to it.
  8. I never particularly liked the Naboo starship designs as vehicles in the Star Wars universe and never bothered with them for that reason. Your MOC changed that. Most impressive! I can only second that your integration of the play features/interior is beautifully done. Now I'd like to see that one brick-built. Unfortunately, I can't build it myself, because I don't have enough of the required curved and cylindrical bricks... Edit adds: As a MOCer myself I understand pretty well that sometimes it's hard or impossible to get all shapes and proportions 100% right with Lego, especially if the outside should be as clean as possible, as is with this ship. I'd still like to see the nose of the ship be a bit more pointy.
  9. Yeah, I thought so, too. Funnily enough, it's the head printing of Palpatine from the new Tri Droid Starfighter set...
  10. Thanks! Here are the next two photos of my New Republic Project. Old Master Skywalker: Fallen Jedi accompanied by a Dark Side Adept:
  11. I'm currently experimenting with character shots for a series of custom new republic era characters of my own making only using official Lego parts. Since I like dogfight spacebattles AND Jedi, here's the first result:
  12. It's beautiful, both in colour scheme and shapes. And yes, models like that need to be built with real bricks, because this makes them look even more awesome!
  13. Thanks, guys, I'm glad you like it. At the moment, I'm just building what strikes my fancy without a large diorama or battle-scene in mind, mainly to explore building techniques. That being said, I'm tinkering with the idea of starting a series of builds and new characters as minifigs (using existing official elements), and possibly even stories, all set in the New Jedi Order-era or even after the events that will be depicted in the new sequel trilogy, with my own designs of starfighters and vehicles and characters in the spirit of the look of Star Wars, especialy the original trilogy.
  14. I asked myself the same question last summer when I got back into Lego after more than 25 years and went straight into the Star Wars theme. After studying the official models and mocs on the internet, I decided to go for Psiaki's X-wing. Sourcing the parts via Bricklink isn't too hard. The specific slopes that make the side of the nose and the cockpit canopy are propably the hardest to find, and one or two other parts (some out-of-production technic part for the engines) can be easily replaced with other bricks that look just as good. If you go for Psiaki's model and have trouble finding the essential cockpit canopy and white long slope hinges for the sides of the nose (they are quite rare in white), I happen to have a couple of them lying around and would part with two of them.
  15. Thanks a lot for the nice comments and constructive criticism. After you pointed it out, the whole front began to bug me, too. So I went back, ripped it apart and built it new today to be closer to the 'snout'-shape of the original. The initial version images have moved here for reference, plus images of the refined build, which also replaced the old images in my opening post. Initial version: Refined version:
  16. OH wow, you've never seen Star Wars, not even once? The Gunners' helmets DO look a bit strange, but not as strange as samurai helmets! Well, I'll be getting this set, too for the minifigs only.
  17. After sorting most of my small bricks and special Lego elements today, I decided to build my own minifig-scale AT RT. Yes, I know, this chicken walker has been done a thousand times, but since it is a very small and flimsy vehicle, at least in Lego, I wanted to take on the challenge. My goal was to build it in minifig-scale (not counting the antenna, it's approximately 2.5 minifigs in height), and still retain the look, shapes and detail of the original, without making it look messy. So right from the start I decided not to use hinge elements and plates for the 'cockpit' plating, instead opting to use snot, cheese slopes and two 3x2 wedge plates. I also decided to make the central axis that forms the seat one brick wide, so as to give the illusion that the trooper sits comfortably on a motorcycle-like seat, as with the original. Before I start to ramble, here's some pictures, because as they say, these say more than a thousand words... Enjoy! Edit: Updated this post with images of the newest build.
  18. Holy smokes - this is genius! I'd like to see all your microbuilds in one picture!
  19. I'm glad you like it so far. I just watched the episode, and the vessel that crashed on the Lurmen's planet was a smaller craft - the republic frigate or something - which Anakin, Rex and Ahsoka used to save Aayla and Bly from their lost Venator Star Destroyer. The bridge of that ship is much smaller than this one, of course. So long story short, it will be a clean version.
  20. This weekend I had some time for Lego again, and started to build the bridge of a Star Destroyer. It is based off imagery from the Clone Wars series - especially the beginning of the season 1 episode Jedi Crash - but I guess I could also use it for my OT minifigs. I plan to make this one as big as my brick collection allows, which is now pretty huge already. I'd like to add the large room behind the commando bridge part shown here, and a level below, connected by two turbolifts. Here's what I've got so far. The outside is built very clean, and the windows look on the outside like here on the inside:
  21. From a common sense point of view, as long as your 'obsession' does not hurt the rest of your life significantly, you have nothing to worry about. At the end of the day, a medium like LEGO is asking for fiddling and experimenting with it, and trying to come up with new stuff constantly. I'd even go so far as to say that this is the essence of Lego. I guess almost every builder goes through what you describe, some more, some less. Here's what I would suggest: If you (like me) find yourself constantly building stuff, and then dismantling or abandoning it because something else has caught your fancy, document what you have done, taking lots of high quality photographs of your builds (and propably how you've built them) before taking them apart to build something new. That way, no build is lost, even if you dismantle it for something else.
  22. Nice review. I'm also thinking of getting the microfighters, but for minifigs and parts, since they pack some nice parts I always need for MOCs. Has anyone ever thought of using the microfighters to build a Star Wars-themed carusell ride for minifigs?
  23. I like the design a lot, it looks a bit like a vintage car from the 50s, so it fits the Republic Era style of things. Speaking of which: I'd add fins to the end part of the wings to complement that style. As for the nose transition, rounded slopes wold work better and look cleaner. But I don't know if these come with the set you are using for parts. It's also interesting to see a norse name for a ship and pilot in the Star Wars universe. All in all great work!
  24. I'd like to see way more Sissies, erm, Sithies in all their hilarious glory: - Darth Two Sheds Jackson, the master of subversive sillyness - Darth Awesome, with his five ten-bladed lightsabers, or was it the other way round? - Darth Nix, the most incompetent of all, he who was never sent on a mission by his master and accidentally cut himself in two while playing with his lightsaber, probably the only gungan who was ever introduced to the ranks of the sith - Darth Sissy in his pink attire, who could choke his foes to death by making them laugh so hard they could not breathe - Darth Darkness, with his two great horns bigger than the minifig without headpiece, he who sought a princess to become his bride, aka Darth Romantic - Darth Generic, just another Darth who looks like Death and has some kind of silly breathing mask and armour Just look them up in Cookiepedia, they ur awsoome! No, seriously, I'm humble and would be happy with a Commander Bly.
  25. Sheesh, stop worrying about the kids. They need some dark stuff and violence in their fairytales, because it teaches them about the world not being a happyland and prepares them for life. The violence in star wars is far from the kind that'd be bad for a kid. I also wonder if parents these days really feel like they have to protect their kids from anything that is even remotely violent, dark and gritty. If yes, I blame the media force-fed plaque that is called political correctness which has replaced moral correctness without anyone taking notice. Poor kids these days. Isn't it enough that the movie machinery doesn't have the balls anymore to greenlight some dark or disturbing kids movies like they did back in the eighties? So, to circle back to topic - please, TLG, for the kids' sake, bring a ponda with removable arm to the cantina!
