42083 - Bugatti Chiron
AVCampos replied to Jurss's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Just wait a bit, and prices (both at the LEGO Shop and BrickLink) will surely go down as the elements get used in more sets and therefore produced in greater quantities. This should happen especially with the driving ring extension, as its old counterpart found lots of uses in non-Technic sets. -

The fat (and, sadly, out of production) shock absorber can do that, by rotating the middle portion. -

Or to make life less easy for copycat brands to... well... copycat the set. -

Bits of the chassis and especially the whole gearbox do look like a unicorn puked on them, but once the model is finished, all those colours become hidden. -

How big would a car have to be to be in scale with that engine? -

Most likely it's a box full of 2x4 bricks, like TLG sometimes sends. -

Plus, with two changeovers placed 90º apart from the wave selector like on the Chiron, we can have a 4-speed gearbox without needing the lever to move in 2 dimensions. -

Hmm, indeed on mine the suspension does sag, but not completely: it goes up a bit again. The springs aren't vertical: https://imgur.com/a/RgOQrPw -

I have one question burning at the back of my head, in case you got the opportunity to try it out working: is the controller setup (for example, setting the +/- buttons either for accelerating/decelerating for trains, or full forward/reverse for cars and tanks) done via a phone/tablet, which is then no longer required for normal play? -

My copy goes back up when pressed down on the front, but not fully back up. I find it kinda acceptable, as when real cars are resting on their wheels their suspensions are also partially depressed. What I don't like in the front is that the left wheel can rub against the gear shifting mechanism when turning left. -

Obviously everyone has the right to have their opinion, but for me no, I won't let the animosity go. TLG asked everyone with access to a 42083 to refrain from posting details about it online, yet people did anyway. What got spoiled were indeed plot points and surprising turns, like the colour scheme and especially the new gearbox elements. Plus, that "don't watch the thread to avoid being spoiled" doesn't work for me: I have a 42083 built right behind me for a few days already and I'm finishing writing a review of it. Nothing written here spoiled anything for me, but it sure did for many others who came here looking for legitimate information and news about the set. -

Now that the set has been officially presented and all the details could be unveiled, I believe all those leakers out there should ask themselves: "was it that much worth it to spoil this for everyone?" -
If you search for "rough terrain crane" on Google Images, you'll see there's no front cab missing. [edit] Ahhh @Timoonn you beat me to it.

It's not long before the set is officially announced, and then your questions will surely be answered in the various reviews that'll come out. -

Technic 2018 Set Discussion
AVCampos replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The 42080, with its number of wheels, would lend itself well to a car carrier with car and pneumatic ramp, but I'm afraid we'll get another loader/truck combo. This if all the wheels are reused. -
