SoNE Contest Episode I: Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka
Brickdoctor posted a topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
"There's Lord Vader's flagship. Deploy fighters, and scan the area for the Millennium Falcon. This is your first test, loyal Imperial soldiers and pilots of Nar Eurbrikka. Do not let anyone leave the system!" "The Sentinels are ready for launch. We'll make contact with the Executor to obtain an update on the situation. All troops, prepare for assault. Spread out and establish checkpoints througout the city once your entire squads are clear of the dropships." "Troopers, you'll be carried in on the freighters and start in the lower levels. Pilots, launch the freighters as soon as we revert from hyperspace. Commander Piranha's fighters will be arriving just before we do, so you'll already have a fighter escort ready. Get as many civilians as you can out of the city. To your ships!" "The freighters are away." "All wings, report in. Lock S-foils in attack position." The Prizes: From the Core Rules: Your faction will receive points based on two factors: Points: The average number of points per builder. Builders: Two points for each builder. [*]These two totals are added to each other, and the faction with the higher total is the winner. [*] All the players on the winning team will receive this Han Solo in Carbonite tag to commemorate their victory. You can only have one of these tags or one of the Community Build tags at a time, but a log will be kept of all the tags you've earned in your profile in the Characters topic. [*]The player who receives the most total individual points, regardless of team, is guaranteed a spot among the next set of the blog's Showcased MOCs. (This member must still be able to provide a picture big enough and of suitable quality to be used in the Showcased banner.) [*]You will receive XP equal to the number of points you are awarded from the judges. [*]Other prizes to be determined. The Rules: All rules in the Core Rules topic apply. The Empire's goal is to prevent the citizens of Cloud City from escaping, particularly the Baron Administrator and the Millennium Falcon. Imperial players should depict in their entry their character helping to fulfull that goal. The Alliance's goal is to help evacuate Cloud City, particularly Princess Leia and the Millenium Falcon. Rebel players should depict in their entry their character helping to fulfull that goal. Entries should be dioramas or vignettes measuring no larger than 64x64, with an overhang of no more than 5 studs. Remember to make your entry appropriate to your rank and goal. From the Core Rules: Your build will be scored in two stages, to make it easier on the judges by lessening the number of builds that must be scored in greater detail: In the first stage, the judges will award a score from 1-10, with a '1' being "Minifig on a Plate", a '5' being "Your Average MOC" and a '10' being "Flawless Concept and Execution". In the second stage, the top five builds of each faction (so ten in total) from the first stage will be scored based on basic predetermined criteria: up to 10 points for the concept and appropriateness to the objective, up to 25 points for your execution of the build, and up to 5 points for your presentation of the entry. For builders who make it to the second stage, their second stage total is added to their first stage points, and that total is divided by two. You can earn a maximum of 25 points in each episode. [*]The amount of points you earn is also the amount of XP your character earns. [*]The Episode will run from 7 August to 21 September, 2013. As long as it's still September 21st somewhere in the world, you can still enter. [*]Entries posted after the deadline will be disqualified from the episode and will not be eligible to receive XP. (And will not be eligible for free build XP, either, since Bespin is not a planet that players are currently allowed to set free builds on.) [*]This episode/contest is open to all players of Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka, even if they joined EB or signed up for the game after the episode has begun, with the exception of the Star Wars staff, who are not eligible to win XP or prizes; the EB admins and moderators, who are not eligible to win prizes but may earn XP; and the episode host, who is not eligible to win prizes but may earn XP. [*]One entry per member. [*]All entries must be new creations, not posted anywhere else prior to being entered in the episode. You may be asked by a staff member to change your entry if it is too similar to an earlier creation. [*]All entries must be built from real LEGO. No clone brands, no third-party custom parts, no digital entries. [*]You are allowed to use one customized/modified minifigure, your Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka sig-fig. Everything else must be purist. [*]All entries must be posted as a new topic in the Watto's Junkyard subforum, the title prefixed by, "[soNE Ep. I]". (For example, "[soNE Ep. I] The Empire Strikes Back".) [*]Post pictures no larger than 1000x720, as specified in the EB Member Guidelines. [*]You may do a 'full-blown photo edit' with all the text, effects, background compositing, support erasing, and other effects on one picture. All your other pictures may have no editing other than color adjustment or background removal for a solid-color background. For obvious reasons, any photo editing that changes the shape, functionality, or color (not tint or adjustment, but actual color) of a LEGO piece is prohibited. [*]All entries are considered WIPs (Works In Progress) until the deadline passes. Until the deadline has passed, you are allowed to change and improve your MOC. -

(SoNE) Receiving the Mission.

I do like the angles that you've incorporated into this vig; they fit the setting well. It resembles the style of the Avenger's bridge. Might try some tiles and some grilles in the floor to complement that, and perhaps some sort of control console somewhere? Do you want this MOC to be judged? -
SoNE free build - Imperial pilot's quarters
Brickdoctor replied to phoenixhawk's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Sounds like you did a good amount of research, and it shows, because I love the bland, practical look of the room I think some kind of detailing in the walls and floors might make it 'pop' more, especially when dealing with a monochromatic style like this. Some grilles, some small sloped supports — little things like that that look Imperial in style, but aren't too obvious, just there to give some variation and avoid big stretches of flat grey. Also, it's fitting and hilarious that Star Wars bunk beds have no rails. Do you want this free build to be judged? -
[SoNE Free build] Checkpoint alpha
Brickdoctor replied to Nom Carver's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Looking good. Tatooine style of architecture is there, and I like this presentation better than that of your last vig, though the photography's a little dim still. I think the sand would look better if it was more three-dimensional, with small dunes and lumps of sand throughout the street. (Especially around corners and objects embedded in the sand where the sand can get caught and piled up, sheltered from the wind and/or prevented from eroding by objects in the sand.) One question: Why is there a tree in the middle of a street on Tatooine? Oh, do you want this MOC to be judged? -
I like the smooth floor. Definitely something that helps the Death Star feel: a shiny black floor, along with those sloping supports Good job on the amount of background objects, too: enough to make it look like a busy hangar, but not too much, and pushed up against the wall, very Imperial in arrangement. I kind of wish that the wall was as smooth as the floor, maybe even with some exposed piping and an inset window. Oh, do you want this MOC to be judged?
-
Good start. I would like to see more storyline involved in this, and combined into one bigger diorama, as has been said. Maybe a little more solidified color scheme too: yellow trim on grey is good, red highlights on grey is good, but the yellow and red together look very CW-ish, and I would pick one or the other to be used sparingly with more greys.

QM Note: Ah, you're right. I'll edit the posts for the Rounds I've already done, and then I'll end the battle in a couple hours when my computer is at a place that has internet. You can see no traps in either the throne or the banner. The throne appears to be just a seat with no malicious funtions, and the banner appears just to be one of a victorious conquering army, hung carelessly on the wall. -
Yes, they're pictures of near-finalized sets shown to retailers through a product catalog. The sets are subject to change between the printing of the Confidential watermarked photos and the release of the set, but the set is real. (Although as with plenty of graphics, it is possible to fake the watermark in Photoshop, so you can't call it a complete guarantee that a set is real. But there's usually a good chance that it is.)

Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka — Introduction and Discussion
Brickdoctor replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
It's just the rank improvement, and XP does not get deducted after you rank up; you need 15 XP to get from the (actually it's the second, counting the starting rank) second rank to the third. -
Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka — Introduction and Discussion
Brickdoctor replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
It means that if you want to build something that's completely ridiculous and/or blatantly breaks the rules of free builds, then that MOC won't be judged and won't be considered a part of the canon storyline, no matter how good it is and no matter whether or not you want it to be one of your four judged free builds. The rule was added with the thought that players might want to explore the Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka setting outside of what their character experiences. -
I use a Phoenix Essence on Hybros before attacking Avery from the Back Row with my Darksteel Crossbow.

I'm not completely sure as to what GoH's rules are now. For Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka, read over the rules regarding what is appropriate for free builds in the Core Rules, post the build in a new topic in the main SW forum, you can announce it in your faction's roleplaying topic (Redemption for you), and then you should state in the MOC's topic whether or not you want it to be judged. -
And when Chrome TC-14 came out last year, I bought only the Kingdoms Joust, and I got the promo without any problems despite a "Star Wars purchase" being mentioned, so, anybody's guess...

The hall is about a hundred studs in length, built in the same style as the Dragon's Head Tavern was, with wooden pillars down the length of its central hallway. At the end of the hallway, you see a large stone chair set against the wall. Almost throne-like in appearance, the chair is flanked by a pair of small tables and a pair of pedestals. One of the pedestals supports the remains of a statue of a knight that has since toppled over and now lies in pieces across the stone floor; the other is now being used as a stand for a keg of some beverage. Down the length of the hall run some long tables improvised from doors and planks set on short stools. An elven coat of arms and banner hangs askew above the chair, and chandeliers hang from the rafters, half of the candles lit, half of them smoldering. Bottles and goblets lie strewn across the floor and tables. The hall is conspicuously devoid of people, and, save for the occasional crackle of candles, silent. "Once, the wealthy merchants who founded R'kilf fancied themselves knights-errant and protectors of the village. With lances in lance-racks, old bucklers, lean hacks, and a greyhound for coursing, they held court in this hall. Whenever they were at leisure, which was mostly all the year round, they gave themselves up to reading books of chivalry with such ardor and avidity that they almost entirely neglected the management of their property." -
Heroica RPG - Quest #77: Your Elves are Better than Ours

"He tended to spy even on his fellow elves, taking advantage of his cloak that could make him invisible, letting Lord Keveak know ahead of time of what other elves had planned so that Lord Keveak could beat them to it and take credit for the idea. It made him annoying and impossible to trust." -

This looks pretty good. I like the idea of a smaller door in the base leading to skinny wooden bridges scattered across the swamps, like the path through the Dead Marshes, and I like the basic color scheme and shaping. I think I would go with a brick-built solution for the bridge instead of the pre-fab piece; brick-built solutions pretty much always look better than pre-fab solutions. And maybe some color variation in the swamp with some trans pieces so it's clear that it's a swamp and not a grassy plain. You didn't specify, so I will ask: do you intend for this free build to be judged or not?
