Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures...
Brainbox replied to The Kid's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I'm looking forward to spotting all the Christie in-jokes. I bet there's a reference to "the little grey cells." ;-) That was a shock indeed. Ghosts bleeding through from the other world? Technology from parallel UNIT or Torchwood? Hmm... I quite enjoyed this episode. The Adipose have got to be by far the cutest, sweetest Who monsters ever. I want one, I really do. There was definitely something tongue-in-cheek about this one though. That's not a bad thing of course, it's nice to get something a bit light-hearted once in a while. -
I was thinking more of Zelda the Great (yes, alright, so she reformed at the end) and Ma Parker. And then there was the spacesuit-ed Mr Freeze and his weird accent...
-
Revealing his identity, not revealing his identity, Iron Spider, One More Day, etc?
-
Very 60s... And I don't know whether that's a good thing... ;-)
-
That has absolutely nothing to do with it, but strangely it's not something I can explain. I would agree with you there, though it depends on the artist. Ed Benes Birds Of Prey Canary (different inker to his Justice League work) was quite, you know. I knew it! I knew it! It's not just me... Yeah, perhaps, but I suppose that just adds to the style. I mean, have you seen some of his characters eyebrows!?

Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures...

I think that's the idea. The void is the gap between one world and another (it's 'parallel'). The Dalek/Earth Cybermen did get sucked in at the end of Series 2, yes. They're trapped there for good (or as close to 'good' as the Whoniverse can get). Rose and co, however, are trapped on the parallel world. The 'glowy stuff' is Voidstuff by the way. Actually, yeah, I wasn't as intrigued by this as I perhaps should be. Oh, btw. The bit I said before, when 4.6 was set to "shatter our faith in the Whoniverse", well, that wasn't in the Radio Times, but I did get it from somewhjere, I'm sure. I just can't find where. The title of 4.9 has also been changed to Forest of the Dead. Ooh, sinister... -
Today, I travelled down to my grandparents. Nothing happened and it was a rather boring journey all told. We're heading home tomorrow. Yesterday, however, was a lot more interesting. I went on a trip with college to see the Bodyworlds exhibition in Manchester. It's the Gunther Von Hagens plastination one, with the plastified bodies, etc. Really, really interesting, and I strongly urge anyone who can to go. Although, if you've got a thing about death, then it's perhaps not for you.

Aww, cute. In a... scary kind of way. And I almost hate to say it, but I like the mini-bots more than the main attraction. Very nice though. Any chance of a Bat-reaper? ;-)

Hopefully, I can manage that. If I can get it to work out, it should look really good. Interesting. It looks like mine will have to be four walls though. It certainly will to accomodate the cells on the upper levels, so the lower floors will probably have to be as well. I'd like to do a TLC-style 3-walled Arkham. Actually, I wonder if I could add an extra floor in to remove the cells from the rear wall, then keep the back open... I'm also going to have to make sure I reinforce any platforms, either to rocks or to the platform underneath so they don't collapse. I'm currently stockpiling any ladders, chains and fences I find, as I just know I'm going to need them. I might get the Battle Wheel actually. I wasn't going to because of the cost, but when my new S@H catalogue arrived the other day I discovered it was only £30. I was expecting it to be more like £40. Unfortunately, I won't be able to buy for a while. I'm planning on buying a laptop this holiday (I'm off for 2 weeks), so that'll remove most non-essential expenditure for a couple of months. :'-( I'm only getting multiples of the smaller sets and BPs though, and even then only if I can afford it. I've got to pay for food, travel and clothes as well. :-D Both. Most of the new sets I buy tend to go on display somewhere. Not all, but most. They then tend to stay displayed until I get to point where I've either run out of space, or 'had enough' of the set. I spent a day recently removing a few sets from display, purging them for parts. Most of the Agents stuff is going to stay up, but only because I really quite like them. I don't know why, but I just think they're all really cool, in a sort of high-action way. I'm also planning on finding somewhere for the Mach 5 and Racer X's car to go, once I've bought and MODed them, as they could be quite cool. But I'm not too fussed on the other cars in the sets, so they'll probably be salvaged for parts. I'm also going to lose a shelf for my new printer when I get it. |-/ I have done occasionally, but only for MOCs that I know aren't going to be displayed. I wouldn't do it for a MOD though, as they tend to be permanent (at least until I scrap the set). But sometimes I make an exception, yeah... :-$

Very nice work Batbrick. The Alfred one is definitely my favourite, but the other ones are very nice too. I managed to spoil the surprise actually, by stumbling across them the other day. Still, never mind, I welcome the opportunity to see them again. All are nice and simple, and in line with the Impulse idea. They also seem to fit in with the whole Bat-mythos. One question though: Is Ace (here) black or brown, I can't tell? Because he really should be brown... (or grey if it's the Krypto version) Aww, you beat me to it ;-)

Currently dividing time between an RGS MOD/rebuild, and my super-size Arkham. I've got two weeks off college now, so I should be able to get all my photography done finally.
-
I'm currently in the process of MODing my RGS, and I was working on it last night when I (foolishly) decided to pick it up to look at it from a different angle and check it looked okay. Not a brilliant idea, as I somehow managed to drop it. I was sat at my desk at the time, so thankfully it didn't have time to fall. And I think I managed to slow it down when I caught the back (but couldn't hold on). Luckily, I managed to get it back to the state it was in. It's still not finished though.
-
Interesting. The idea that is, the implementation could be better. That said though, the article does imply that this guy isn't an AFOL, merely an 'amateur photographer.' So I suppose we couldn't realistically expect a true work of art. And I guess it's always nice to see Lego in the mainstream.

I wondered whether it might have been from there. I think I read earlier it's finally being released on DVD. I... don't really know. Maybe it's the red hair (which would also explain Ivy. And, um, Miss Martian), maybe it's the glasses, maybe it's just a combination of things. But come on... can you really say she doesn't look good in that pic? Add to the list the aforementioned Miss Martian, and Zatanna Zatara. Actually, you may be right... Oh yes. I'm a huge fan of Loeb's writing anyway, especially his run on Superman/Batman (I enjoyed the dual narration), and Sale's artwork is fantastic. They're definitely one of my favourite creative team partnerships. Um... check out my first post in the DC Villains thread.

But not the Ridder? Come on, he's a great villain. I mean, it's not as if he's any worse than some of those who've been turned out...

Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures...

The acronym is the same, but it now stands for Unified Intelligence Taskforce. I think the UN objected in real life. It's now a worldwide thing, rather than a UN-only thing. It still does essentially the same job though. The Radio Times for next week (which arrived yesterday) had its customary 14-page new series section. The titles of all but one of the episodes have been revealed, along with a few other bits of info. Spoilers may be present: 1. Partners in Crime with Sarah Lancashire as sinister businesswoman Miss Foster, and the Adipose, possibly the cutest DW monster ever. 2. The Fires of Pompeii 3. Planet of the Ood where The Doctor discovers what made the Ood a servant race. 4. & 5. The Sontaran Stratagem/ The Poison Sky. Martha returns, as does UNIT. The Sontarans are lead by one General Staal. 6. The Doctor's Daughter Apparantly starring Georgia Moffet (Peter Davison's daughter) as the titular character. Very little is known about this episode, only that it's promised to shake our faith in the Whoniverse. 7. The Unicorn and the Wasp. The Agatha Christie episode. It looks at a period of a few weeks where Agatha Chrisite really disappeared, and returned with no memory of what happened. Something to do with giant alien wasps apparantly... Look out also for lots of Agatha Christie titles in the dialogue. 8. & 9. Silence in the Library/River's Run. These are Stephen Moffats episodes, so no doubt they're 'the scary ones' this series. It's set in an abandoned library, and fetures the Nodes and the Data Ghost. 10. Midnight. A trip to the leisure planet Midnight, and a character played by Patrick Troughton's son, David. It's turning into a 'children of the Doctor' reunion... 11. Turn Left. Donna's story arc starts to come to a close, as her life, family and world lie devastated. And only a mysteriopus girl from a parallel universe can help her, a girl thought lost forever... 12. & 13. TBA/ Journey's End. Who are the Children of Time? What is the secret of the Vault? Will everyone get out alive..? The axction takes place on a "truly epic" scale, with the whiole universe placed in danger, as an old enemy is resurrected. I'll post more if I realise I've missed anything, as this was done partly from memory. -
I don't quite understand why there's a skellie in the skellie prison though. I didn't think the price was that bad, considering the size, novelty, etc. I mean, I'm not buying it, I can't justify the price as a non-chess player. I was also surprised to see that the Battle Wheel was £30. I was expecting it to be more like £40.

Hopefully I will. At the moment, I'm using mainly black and brown for the middle section, and greys for the towers. Of course, that may change higher up, but the idea is that it'll add to the ugliness, while not depleting my parts stocks. To be honest, that was never meant to be a finalised display anyway, I always knew I wanted to optimise all the space. The middle and bottom shelf are certainly tall enough to accomodate two levels. Not necessarily full levels, but maybe some platforms. I've also got to make sure the heavier vehicles, like the Bat-tank and Tumbler, go on the shelf base, while lighter ones like the bikes and the dragster can go on platforms. I might also fill in any gaps between platforms actually say on the shelf with some black paper to cover up the actually shelf, making the cave look deep. X-D I'd actually love to do that, but I don't think I've really got the room. Because of the layout of my non-shelf furniture (bed, desk, wardrobe), I've not got a 'free' wall. Plus, I'd have less room for posters, and I do have rather a lot of those. But, that said, I may give it serious consideration... As for Castle, I plan on getting most of this years sets (not so fussed on the troll ship though). It's not the actual sets thats the problem, it's the number of each set. I will get sopme duplicates for army building, especially of the battle packs, Dwarf catapult, Impulse sets and maybe a few more Crossbow Attacks. But the actual numbers remain unconfirmed. And most of the Agents stuff will stay built, apart from possibly the gate in the car set.

Ah right, I thought there was more to come. The Bat-ski is the Batcave one, yes. I might MOD it a little, I don't think I have yet, but I generally quite like it. The Bat-strike is a name sometimes used for one of those motorised scuba diving sleds. I'm not sure whether I'm too keen on my current design though, so I may change it. Probably not such a bad idea.
-
That bothered me too. It's your way of life, and if other people don't like it, get over it. And exactly how much of a leap is it to reading a review of a set here to actually seeing a set up close. The reviews scrutinise every little detail of sets, pointing out the 'hidden features' and such like. You could then say that this 'ruins' discovering the set for yourself.

Someone managed to knock my AT-AT on the floor once. To be honest, it was my own fault for having it on a low cabinet next to the door. Anyway, it took ages to put it back together, as a lot of the pieces in the AT-AT are structural, and on the inside. They're all multicoloured as well, and because I don't see them due to the outside plates I didn't know where they all went. I had to crack out the instructions and work through, meticulously replacing all the pieces where they should go. Now, I love building, it's the best part. But not like this.
-
Not that Babs Gordon, this Babs Gordon: Where was your picture from anyway? I agree. I'd much rather read any DC comic that any Marvel one. :-$ Yes, all right, so I can't express enthusiasm.
-
What's even worse is that they were actually pies. Seriously. He, um, rids Gotham City of super-heroic vigilantes. Oh, shut up. ;-)
-
Hmm, probably going to have to go with Doctor Doom. Although Galactus is quite cool (then again, he eats planets... what's not to like?).
-
Especially if you're surrounded by people who think they know what they're doing, but invariably make things worse... *cough*my dad*cough* The GCPD's not finished? Anyhow, I look forward especially to Wayne Manor, as that's not on my list for the forseeable future. Sadly. It depends what I can fit in. The main priority is getting all the vehicles in. That means finding space for the Batmobile, Batplane, Batcopter, Bat-tank, Tumbler, Batcycle/Bat-pod, Bat-ski, Batbuggy, Bat-dragster, Bat-boat, Batglider, Bat-strike, Bat-jetski and Bat-armour, as well as Robin's jetski, jet-sub and motocross bike (ie Bane's bike, repurposed), and parking space for Catwoman's and Nightwing's bikes. After that though, I;'ll try and squeeze in what I can- Kryptonite vault, Trophy room, computer, training room, lab space, workspace, repair bay, maybe an unfinished WIP Batmobile that Bats is working on, slideways teleporter, costume vaults, t-rex (it's red, but never mind), several entrances, etc. The, erm, cave's the limit. ;-)
