Magic: The Gathering player here. For something like 12 years I guess, off and on. I own a few "dead" TCGs as well, but no one is interested in those, I suppose. I'm an avid boardgamer as well.

And today I got my Prize A if you'd like to track the time from Sweden to mid-USA, ha! My Oppress had armor as well. Thanks again. New Leia

How much did you spend on Lego in 2011?
TheWarden replied to Legacy Man's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm a tightwad, so not very much (except for me) but I estimate I spent about $350 last year. Got some nice bargains looking back at it... Mess o' polybags at 90% off 3 small/medium Atlantis for about 30% off Troll's Mountain Fortress for 50% off The big Atlantis sub for 50% off Kingdom's Prison Tower Rescue for 66% off SP3 Undercover Cruisers (2) for $3 each - 90ish% off I did pay full price for a few things: The four smallest Ninjago sets, wave 1 The three smallest Alien Conquest sets City of Atlantis $70 (prolly could have waited for clearance on this!) Yes, I am grateful to be a USAFOL and with a LEGO store nearby and the price / availability benefits that come with it. -
I find it odd you aren't satisfied by what I feel are a large amount of pages out there. Generally, MOCPages, CuuSoo, and the newest addition by LEGO themself, ReBrick, are mostly MOCS. Heck, each forum here has a stickied thread of indexed MOCS. If you haven't got into Flickr MOC groups (by theme, generally) then you are missing out there too. Oh well, to each is their own.

Ah! Perhaps this is the next generation of the "Fabuland edge" effect, nay... I coin this "Friends edge."

Anybody pick this up yet? It's on LEGO's website as "Bricks & More, LEGO 4625-1 Pink Brick Box $14.99" but might be too early to ask. No inventory up on Bricklink yet. No instructions on LEGO's site yet. I also thought these boxes had an inventory shot on the box, so that would work for me as well. I'm dying for some of the rare colors in this budget offering, and was hoping to pick it up in the next couple of weeks... Thanks for any help.

Glad to see the Angler get some love. I have this but haven't opened it yet, happy that is looks worthwhile... Too many to pick just one, but this year I liked: (US prices, sorry) 2260-1: Ice Dragon Attack - $20 (awesome) 2259-1: Skull Motorbike - $15 (biker skeleton roll around fun) 6918-1: Blacksmith Attack - $10 7279-1: Police Minifigure Collection - $10 (great if you didn't have any recent police or the criminals, bad if you already had them) Any of the small Alien Conquest sets tickled my fancy 6862-2: Superman Vs Power Armor Lex - $20 (Officially released this year or next?) 30052-1: AAT - $4 or less (if you picked these polybags up this year, you probably got 2 and often got them cheaper after the holiday, and you got a cute scootable tank with rarish colors, useful parts for sci-fi moccing) 7187-1: Escape from the Dragon's Prison - $20 (The prison isn't much by for the price, you get a nice experience, minifigs, a story in a box if you will.) 4659758-1: Target Bullseye Gift Card 2011 - Free* (If you could find these, you got a nice pile of white bricks, slopes, etc with a rare target printed part. Oh and a broom!) I guess I bought a lot this year...

Oh, so all three are the prize? I thought you got a random one from that category... Genius! If you can swap part of a package, I'm still open to swaps for the non-Leia figs if it helps anyone.
-
Neat! I won in Prize Category A! Hmm, I don't know how this works exactly, but as I am only a OT collector, I would swap any fig to get new Leia, unless I get it as one of the options in my category. Nonetheless, I am happy with any prize if it comes down to it.

Review: 6857 The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape
TheWarden replied to halomaster96's topic in LEGO Licensed
What you have here isn't bad for a preview, but the pictures are quite bad for a review. I would study the Reviewer's Academy reviews if you want to get better at this. Lots of room to improve on things like, photos (clear, large, appropriate brightness, appropriate backdrops, etc), taking a critical look at what could be improved (not just wow, 100% awesome, buy this, etc), rare / uncommon parts, in-build progress shots, manual issues, if any, documentation of all aspects of the set (What's going on in the lower right? I don't think you've shown us), an more. -
VV is short for "Vic Viper" a space fighter from a video game series with a distinct style, two forward prongs that go past the cockpit, two wings in rear and one vertical tail fin also in the rear. If you want to know more there is a whole Flickr group of them. Thanks for the comments and stopping by!

VVSTF-Splash by TheWarden007, on Flickr VVSTF-VV Shot by TheWarden007, on Flickr VVSTF-02 by TheWarden007, on Flickr My third Vic Viper, second Novvember year. Editor's Notes: - My primary goal was to use this huge bag of Bionicle parts that has been staring at me for a couple of years. - Holy illegal connections, Batman! - Forgive the bad photos. My camera is from the stone ages and I'm getting a new one soon. - I think this is one of my first real microscale builds. Comments and constructive criticism welcomed. Credits: - To the memory of Nnenn and the VV movement. - To pasukaru76 for the N2011 graphic and doing the image map. - To the whole Vic Vipers group for inspiration.

Thanks staff for this fun raffle! I'm on a bit of a MOC dry spell, but it was fun to dig through the bricks this week. Anyway, happy holidays and all that. Luke got a tree that was a bit too big this year, but then he remembers the wisdom of ol' "Ben" Kenobi. "Use the Christmas force, Luke..."

Vote for your favourite Category A entries
TheWarden replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I like to vote without looking at other's votes... so I shall say: 8) Zoo Keeper Entry (Build by TinyPiesRUs) - 1 point 18) Dwarf Warrior Entry (Build by Kumata) - 1 point 32) Eskimo Entry (Build by ptLeskinen) - 1 point Tough vote, indeed. I have some runner ups that I wish I could give points... -
The review was fine, however it seems a little rude to call us "taliban" no? How about watching your words next time...

There are no "right" answers. I've seen spacecraft with dark red, lime green and purple accents that looks interesting. You almost have to try everything to see how it looks. What's possibly more accepted is proportion and number of colors. Usually it's like a large amount of one color, a moderate of another, highlights of a third. Typically aim for no more than three. Although cosmetic details (flags, running lights, etc) might go past 3. To start with, study all the color schemes of the past Sci-fi themes of LEGO.

One "trick" that hasn't been mentioned here (or recently) to updating the Brickbuilder or whatever the database is called, is to (if you can spare the room or the wall is mostly small parts) is to start a cup with 1x each piece in the wall, then fill. When you sort at home, log each unique piece. This seems the easiest way, but you do sacrifice some room in the cup to update with this method. I suppose if you are really knowledgable you could write it all down or take pictures...
-
Not too much to discuss, but you've covered the review bases well. The "giant" chicken might be fun for an AFOL, maybe piloting some sci-fi mech. New meaning to the term "chicken walker" no?
-
I was indifferent until I saw the picture that shows heads don't fit. I doubt all of them are like that, but those I would consider a failed part akin to a missing or broken part and would seek replacement on LEGO's site.

Where do you get your inspiration?
TheWarden replied to slovakiasteph's topic in General LEGO Discussion
One small tip that helps me, is to take photos of everything I make before you demo it. Digital shots are free of course, and you never know when you might want to reuse a previous detail you accomplished, or what you tried and didn't really work, color schemes you used, or whatnot. Helps to remember where you've been, you know? -
Howdy. I'm slowly edging my way into the Castle genre and really haven't done any Castle MOCS as an adult. My next project is a MOD+Moc tying the (all unbuilt) Dragon Prison Tower, the Escape from Dragon Prison, the Blacksmith Attack set, and plus... some barracks, a shop, and some other stuff. I can run with that. But, what I can't figure out... I have the Trolls Mountain Fortress built for a while and would like to MOD or add-on to it before I need to disassemble it. Care to spare some ideas? Can't think of any "evil" faction ideas. I don't have any more trolls or orcs, but I have some other bad guys, skellies, undead, wolfman, etc. Thanks.
