  1. Nice back end. You might think about some things in the space between the cones and the ridge of the orange "tires", in that valley, if you understand where I'm talking about. Not sure what yet (small cones, trans orange cylinders, greebles, hoses, dunno) but that space looks too empty for my tastes.
  2. I like them. Only thing I would change is the first one's long guns; they seem too ungainly and awkward. Try something more compact / shorter, perhaps?
  3. Lovely personality and looks like a real maxifig. The placement of the darker greys seems a bit random, which works, but distinct color blocking of certain areas might be something to think about.
  4. Bit late to the party, but this is awe-inspiring. The shape is killer (yeah, the front length is polarizing, but it works for me), and the color blocking of the stripe is remarkable. I will have to look at your other work.
  5. Clever idea. The general shape is good and the technical parts look realistic and functional. Things you might improve upon or think about: - Color scheme almost seems too much black. The green is a nice accent color, but maybe some grey would help break up the mass some. Old trick is to do the technical bits one color and the body another. - I don't mind overlapping windscreens but the way it here is not as pretty. I think if either the top one was rotated back to front and moved back a bit the two flat ends would like up better or... if the bottom one was moved down and under some the overlap would not be as bad. Quite original idea and backstory though. Some homework for you is to look up LEGO "cockpit boxes" on Flikr and you can see some ways to structure cockpits, especially with that top windscreen. Lemme know if you can't find what I'm talking about.
  6. KielDaMan: The ladder was a sort of wing (not an airplane wing of course, but a spacecraft wing needs not be aerodynamic) but moreover it was a device to realize the curvy shape of the craft in bricks. The airplane wing part would the trans-blue wings. Bricktrain: Yeah, first time for me using them, save the original Insectoids set they came in. The Suntron color scheme had open guidelines for the trans-colors, so thought trans-bright-blue would be a nice contrast to the yellow and white. Pouring out my trans colors and digging for my trans-blue, these interested me. I then began to craft the general shape and they surprisingly worked well for part of it. Actually adding them and supporting them was a nightmare and the underside of this is really quite ugly... Enough rambling... Legostein: Thank you. Your mini work is awe-inspiring, by the way. I've stopped my your stuff before, but must visit more often. Thanks for the visit and comments!
  7. After a long hiatus, I have finally finished the Phoenix. Builder's Notes: - Color scheme / building guidelines / design inspirations via standards set at http://www.flickr.com/groups/lego_suntron/ - Suntron officers are noted as being "space hippies" so why not a plant research vessel? Somebody has to save the plants! - I had an early sketch with this general shape, but can't find it now! - Features include: 1. Three varied size bio-pods for specimen storage. The biggest can hold large samples without stress. The medium pod has multiple tray storage units. The smallest can hold some samples, and can be winched into the interior for study between expedition sites and the research base. 2. Interior room for crew of one or two. Pilot / engineer and researcher are shown here. 3. Interior has tool storage in the back, specimen jars and tanks in the right, emergency med kit, cockpit, and comprehensive scanning station with liftable lid to place samples in. Room for decorative plant near the pilot is even included. 4. Exterior features include access ladder, winch, communications array, scanning equipment, wing lights, and Gamma class fusion engine. 5. Prototype Suntron brick built insignia with ship number ID plate. The best way to view this (so I don't have to resize everything) is here at my Flickr album, so hit the series for the full details. A couple teaser shots are below. Thanks for reading and looking. Comments / constructive criticism welcome. 8. Great review. I kept thinking it was strange that we didn't have a good review of this set yet. This set really appealed to me, so I bought it, but have not built it yet. I was itching to bust it and try for my first review, but I'm lazy so had not got to it yet. I think for the price $15 US you get a decent value. And heck... it's a biker skelly vs a ninja set? ZOMG!
  9. Borders is closing about 30% of its US stores in the next coming weeks. So, if you have one on the closing list near you that has LEGO, you might find some deals. Your mileage will vary. Here's the list (sort by state if you'd like) http://s.wsj.net/public/resources/documents/st_borders0216_20110216.html
  10. Oh, yeah, I've seen it at other stores, but I'd rather give the LEGO store my money. They seem to be doing well, but I want to keep my store open. (Plus LEGO points!) I'm a very patient man, so I'll wait. (You can also order online at the store to skip shipping costs, so I'll do that if it comes down to it.)
  11. Our thread here and ToysNBricks are already covered, but CheapAssGamer has a GREAT thread on Lego Deals that receives a lot of activity - http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=285185
  12. Finally picked up part of Ninjago Wave 1 that I've been wanting, so... (four smallest sets to get a ninja of each color) Training Outpost Ninja Ambush Skeleton Chopper ... and my LEGO store still can't keep the Ice Dragon set in stock at least on weekends when I can stop by. So I also got the new Police Minifigure set (new one with new dog). Will keep calling to check on Icy on weekends.
  13. I seriously busted a gut on the temple split, harder than I've laughed in a week. That's so silly and I love it. If the Fire Dragon doesn't come with the set (I think it does) you could put the Ice one back there instead. And, yeah. Skeleton monster truck. Genius. If my budget allows... might have to get one or both. I still haven't picked up my first wave Ninjago yet. I plan to buy the smallest four sets when they come back in stock at my LEGO store.
  14. Oh lordy, I hope I can buy that chopper and gold glider, they look great with nice parts within. Please let them appear in stores somewhere near me....
  15. Ninjago seems to be doing well - at least at my local LEGO shop here in Ohio. I went in last Saturday to pick up the four smallest building sets of the line, and not a single one was in stock! They had a pile of the big evil dude fortress though. Shopkeep says he can't keep em in stock and to check back in a couple of weeks. Good thing I'm a very patient man. Dunno how well they are selling anywhere else or how the spinners are selling... one kid did buy a spinner pack while I was in though. Ninjago selling where yall are? Go go LEGO Ninjago! EDIT: Oh, yeah, They seem to be selling well at Targets around here too, never too many sets on the shelf.
  16. I guess I'm gonna be "that guy" today. This review needs some work. While we all appreciate any looks at new sets, the photos you have are woefully inadequate. They are extremely small, dark and out of focus. There is very little info if anything in these pictures that I can't see from the pics on LEGO's website. Try to get a digital camera (not a webcam or phone camera!) and become familiar with its output. Take clear, in focus shots with a neutral background. Put them in a hosting place like Brickshelf or Flickr, then link to them here. Tutorials to do this and many other picture related tasks are in the General Forum stuck to the top of the forum. Look at the quality of reviews here at EB to see what we are expecting. Take this recent one of the new pyramid set by Hickley, one of our admins: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=48652 Good reviews often include things like: - Set data, pieces, release date, price, links to set databases on other websites (Bricklink, LEGO, etc) - Box pics - What's in the box when you pour it out - Look at the sticker sheet - Parts arranged in a square - Unique, rare, interesting, large quantity of a part picture - Mid-build pics of model or instructions or sub-model, if interesting - Several shots of final model - Description of play features if interesting - pros / cons - Departing humor shot Anyone can create good reviews by looking at the good ones here and putting in some work. I hope I did not discourage you too much if you do want to review.
  17. Hmmm... Depends on what you tell them, I would guess. - If you tell them you bought it used, you can't order individual bags. Think of this - the topic came up in the train forum recently that since often the parts to make a car are contained in one bag, people have posed the question here (that got forwarded to LEGO via our ambassador's program) - Why can't we buy extra copies of say... a cargo car - bag 3 in set XXXX? LEGO says no for the time being. Profit, selling difficulties and more explains LEGO. So, no, you can not order specific bags that are in sets. - If you tell them you bought it new, and are missing a bag, you might have a small chance. It's on your conscience though. Missing pieces can be requested via their online web page. Whole bags? I don't know, never done it. I say "small chance" because sets are weighed and a missing bag theoretically would not pass inspection. You can complain to the retailer (depending on the terms that they sold it to you - if it said incomplete / as-is, then you might not get anywhere) that it not complete, and they might help you. Also - shame to you out there that bought your set, opened it, and kept a bag of desirable parts, and returned it for your money. May you step on the sharpest LEGO brick in your bare feet and several more curses I can not name.
  18. This might help you, but it's a little out of date. I filled a cup two months ago at the Cincy store. I went in a couple of weeks back and they seemed to have about the same stuff. You can click the pic for piece descriptions. No guarantees though / call ahead if there are specific pieces you need. They were also out of most of their holiday sales a few weeks back. Again, call ahead. PABCup01-1 by TheWarden007, on Flickr PABCup01-2 by TheWarden007, on Flickr
  19. You must be new. Don't forget to check dates in threads; this thread is almost 2 years old. You'd have better luck messaging the original creator in cases like this. Awesome creation though.
  20. Hellow fellow Ohioan! I'm from a bit more south (Cincy) myself. Welcome to Eurobricks as well. Local deals include Target which has probably clearanced out most of their new year sales (50% off) already and a few Power Miners, Prince of Persia, and Space Police 3 sets at K-Marts. Check the "Latest Sales on LEGO Thread" for more info. I love the LEGO store in 'Nati. Isn't there one in Columbus too?
  21. I lol'ed. A lot. I can't tell if I would like it better with the old Squidward head (the smiling one) of the new one. Hmmm. Actually the new one makes you think more, so I think you went with the right choice.
  22. Kewl. It's almost too mono-chromatic for me. Maybe some sections of light grey or an accent of brown would sell it better. But the overall shaping and aerodynamics suggested look good. For a variant, the vehicle could be a bad guy's rider if you tweak the front - it screams make it a skull!
  23. Nice. Small, detailed, technically well done build. No critiques really. Wonder if using the grey of the engines as an accent color would be interesting?
  24. Happy 1K posts! Hippies, ya. I was wondering myself "how many colors becomes too many?" in my last MOC, and you are definitely exploring that here. I like the overall shape, and the rear works for me, but that is a lot of colors! Perhaps a more selective, but still more than normal, color palette (different for each MOC?) could be explored. Like warm reds, cool greys, + accent color. Or RGB (red, green, blue) + white. Or pastel palette to give off a hippy vibe. But haven't seen the whole of your theme yet, so this is mostly conjecture. Very intriguing though and will wait for more.
  25. Nice vig! I will critique the feet / legs. Maybe I can't see them well in these pics, but they don't seem substantial / in proportion to the mech / alien / contruct. Also being the same color as the ground doesn't make it pop visually. The burn effect is great, and the building corner section works. One detail that might be worth exploring is fuel tanks for the fire generation. Fun thing to explore.
