  1. I'd guess it'll just follow the same pattern of passenger train, cargo train, station, small trackside crew and vehicle, level crossing, tracks. Unless Lego really push trains. What I'd really really like to see is a decent overground city loop train. To serve the purpose of a shuttle round the city rather than chugging between cities like the last two passenger trains. And Separate carriages sold as an add-on. And a multi-platform terminus station would be nice. A properly decent City station. bit of a concourse, large arrival/departure board and ticket office, snack kiosk and pay phones. then just a bunch of platforms with pillars holding up the roof. straight track and Bob's your lobster.
  2. Attack of the monster rabbit.
  3. Sell the houses, buy a warehouse or a big barn conversion. Live downstairs and keep the Lego upstairs. Then you could have it all.
  4. I bought a few today from ebay seller millionsoftoys here in the UK. Saved me hunting. 2 graduates, 2 boxers, 2 zookeepers, 1 gangster, 1 lumberjack, 1 snowboarder and 1 Cleopatra. He had them in quantities of about 40 each. Going for £2.99 each. Most other sellers seem to be asking over £4 for one. I just snaffled the ones I wanted most. I may not bother with the rest of the series.
  5. Just a few thoughts..... I've always felt that The Hobbit is a child friendly entry point to Tolkien's middle earth. Sure it has dark moments but not nearly as dark as Lord of the rings. I could see Lego producing Hobbit sets for a couple of waves but I don't really see them going into LOTR territory. With so many Dwarves and Elves, a dragon and the Mirkwood spiders Not to mention trolls, The Hobbit contains plenty of scope for two waves linked to each half of the movie duology. LOTR is too vast and has too many factions and locations. Trying to cover all of that in two or three waves would be bound to disappoint. I think Tintin would be a better Lego license. the success of the first movie will determine interest but with three movies planned it seems better suited to cater to kids adventure hunger. Probably more kids will see Tintin than the Hobbit. Plus with Spielberg as director producer there's more chance of a Lego license as he's very Lego friendly while the Tolkien estate are very sniffy about who touches middle earth property and the way the material is handled in merchandising. The Toybiz action figures were one thing but Lego might be taking things too far. It would essentially be cartoon-ising the property in a way that trivialises the literary experience. I'm Not saying it couldn't happen just speculating on obstacles to it happening as opposed to the ease with which a property like Tintin might happen. Lego is almost ideally suited to Tintin. A cartoon representation of something already a cartoon itself. As for other Lego properties, I don't see a future for Pharoah's quest or Atlantis. Kingdoms is a good theme and I don't see any reason beyond poor sales why Lego wouldn't keep going with it. Alien conquest has scope for more on each side of the battle. More ADU HQ type stuff. Alien homeworld stuff. It's fun and colourful. City will never die. A steady rotation of professions mixed with the odd civillian setting keep things fresh though reliance on the Police sets is getting tired. A school, hospital, adventure playground, sports centre might add something to the mix and freshen things up. And construction sets linked to the building of a modular structure where each vehicle actually has a job to do to help would advance on the last round of construction sets. with each new set having a part in bringing together a legitimate building it might give some incentive to purchase the whole range. POTC will run its course. A nice diversion in the pirates theme but not a stellar outing for Lego. Perhaps some lessons learned will benefit a return to Lego's own pirates. Unless more movies are planned I don't see POTC lasting beyond the first half of 2012. Pixar/Disney stuff isn't as good as it could be. Monsters inc and Monsters university should be the next sets tackled I think. All the crazy monsters would give Lego chance to be truly creative and give minifig collectors a nergasm. It's also the richest material out all the pixar movies. Not that the other movies aren't cool but monsters are more intersting than cars and toys. Hero factory like ben 10 I feel lacks the oomph of bionicle. I'm sure there are plenty of fans for HF but it hasn't got the slickness of the bionicle mythos and as such I can't see it having longevity. Architecture is proving popular and I could see expansion here. Microscale seems to gaining more and fans and I could see a few sets that allow people to build desktop cities. Space is at a premium for lots of people and many avoid City sets as they feel too old for those. Microscale offers an opportunity to indulge in town/city planning and creativity without eating floor space while being incredibly cool. The models Lego already produce of landmark buildings are great but they could do with addressing the wider fanbase of microscale.
  6. I'm going to hold off making any judgements until I see the sets these come in and proper studio photography. I'm intrigued and interested but it's far too early to be getting excited. It is cool that Batman is back though.
  7. Usually it's a case of finding what I want and then if I haven't already exceeded the minimum buy I hunt around for anything interesting to reach it. Although if I'm not counting pennies I'll just browse and add stuff that I might use or like the look of or just add if it seems really cheap. I never really have a specific project in mind but I know the way I build and the colours I'll use. Which makes things a bit easier. I've set myself a limit of £38 GDP because if buying from American sellers over £40 and I get slapped with customs duties costs. so I'll probably visit a number of stores to get the best deal on the largest amount of parts for the cheapest price. I can spend a few days hunting before I finally purchase.
  8. I can't really add any more praise than is already here. It is a marvelous beast of a creation. Only thing I can say that hasn't, is to note the dead chicken in the foreground right on a couple of pics
  9. Damn fine stuff. I'll be all over these when they're released.
  10. Paul. I found it quite dull and over long. weakcharacterisation and performances lacking in energy. Almost as though Pegg and Frost were literally taking a vacation. Sigourney Weaver was wasted and in the little screen time she had it felt like she hadn't read the script and just wandered onto the set in between doing something else more important. There were one or two laughs to be had but it's a very disappointing movie. Plus the fawning at Spielberg's feet is slightly nausea inducing.
  11. Priest. It was ok for killing some time but by no means brilliant. Very derivative and highly predictable. Lots of style and no substance.
  12. WD40 or some other oil type solution. If it'll work for stuck tight nuts and bolts it'll work on stuck tight lego bricks.
  13. I've given up sorting and actually gone insane.
  14. GET ORF MOI LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND!!!!!!
  15. "*gasp* It's got chicken legs!" [Gir - Invader Zim episode 'Megadoomer'] I like it. It's neat.
  16. Recieved pronunciation is the name given to the way of speaking at the BBC and theatrical professions. It's entirely artificial but the clearest way to communicate. It's what the majority of non-British people assume all of us sound like.
  17. Despite there not really being an army following the Doctor and not very much happening in the episodein real terms that was a spectacularly spiffing episode. Definitely on a par with some of the higher budget American sci-fi shows. Francis Barber was a great choice to play the villain. The eye patch made me chuckle reminding me of Travis from Blake's 7. The sets were great and the episode really felt cinematic. So many cool moments. the silurian tongue gag really made me choke on a mug of tea. very naughty mr. moffat haha.
  18. according to Brickset it'll likely be opening in September. This is fantastic News. It's going to be in the newish Liverpool One development down at the bottom of the city centre. So it's in a prime location. Can't wait. Woohoo! And if successful it will likely lead to slow progression throughout the uk. I was worried after the Birmingham store closed but the Cardiff store and now this is very heartening.
  19. Alcohol works brilliantly. I use a little squirt of aftershave. Try it.
  20. Only for this series, they might be back in series 7/8, (or 3/4 or 33/34 depending on which numbering system you use), he's just resting the Daleks for a bit.
  21. oxy action clothes whitener stuff effervesces so it agitates the dirt off. really cleaned up some yellowed and dirty white horses from the 1980's I aquired and was ready to throw out. I ignored the label and used one scoop of powder to about a pint of water then left the horses soaking for six hours occasionally agitating them. they went from a urine yellow to creamy white. and all the horrible black finger grease and dust grime in the grooves and corners washed off.
  22. Lately I spend very little time with Lego. My puppy is turning out to be very demanding so the only time I'm near my lego is when I'm in bed. So then it's usually staring at drawer units and boxes and containers of unsorted stuff trying to figure out the best way of sorting. and list making of bricks and parts I want. and mentally constructing and planning. That's probably only about an hour a day. Pitiful.
  23. Rebel flesh/almost people is the best Doctor who story since the reboot in 2005. A combination of great script, fantastic direction and tight editing. The special FX weren't very special but they didn't need to be with everyone acting their socks off and giving the story a real feeling of menace and peril. Proper kid scaring Doctor Who finally. This should be the benchmark the DW team work to. The tone was perfect. Deeply satisfying viewing.

    Television?

there's a tv screen sticker, 2x4 in set 7288 Mobile police unit.
  25. None actually. Well not now. Until I found Bricklink in 2008 I had lots of regrets about not having minifigs or pieces and parts, I missed an awful lot of sets throughout my life but now I simply buy the bits I need to supplement my existing collection of stuff. Hoorah! throw in a few downloaded instructions and voila! almost instant vintage classic brand new old collection. simples.
