  1. tweezers for applying stickers, brick separator, thumbnail, one inch paintbrush and artists sable bristle paintbrush for dusting, cheap unwanted christmas gift aftershave (alcohol base) for removing sticker residue and grease. just used 'Vanish oxy action' stain remover for clothing to clean up some white horses from the 1980's that had yellowed. limited success but they look a lot better. Now cream instead of yellow. I was going to throw the horses out as too damaged by light but decided to experiment with cleaning solutions.
  2. Nice! I wonder if the upper part of the wave might be a bit dark though. would it look better if it had lighter blue bricks or more trans bricks? I think the lower part works with solid colours and the mix but whenever I see film of surfers the wave seems more glassy and lighter than the main body of sea. Just a thought.
  3. it tickles me that you did the underwear gondola before anything else in the menswear store.
  4. I has been buying aminals from teh Bricklink. Couple of orange fish, dapple grey horses, goat, both colour chikkinz and spotty piggies, Though I've just realised the place I got them from also had the variant dog without the black nose marking and I've already paid so can't add it to the order. stoopid me. Oh, also bought a load of the ridged 2x2 round brick in tan. No idea what for yet but it's handy to have the cool parts just in case.
  5. These days most zoos are given over to breeding programmes and conservation of rare breeds disappearing from the wild. It's less about caged animals and more about protecting animals from extinction where natural habitats are vanishing or the threat of hunters is high. enclosures in zoos are made to look as much like their habitat as possible where possible. And many breeding programmes have release animals back into the wild. However, all that aside, I too think a 'safari' subtheme might work better for getting zoo animals. It has broader scope. tourist safari trucks and jeeps, vegetation, interesting minifigs, hostel building, game wardens office, wild animal rescue/veterinary centre, tribal village, villainous poachers for the game warden to apprehend. It could in theory spawn more animals than a zoo subtheme. And tie in with both adventurers and pharoahs quest plus the collectible minifig girl with chimp, explorer and bush pilot. Of course another option would be for Lego to make Animal packs. Just a box of Animals for you to do with what you want to. A pack of jungle animals, one of savannah animals, another of forest animals and another of farm animals. Oh and then sea creatures. There could even be an exclusive of something like Australian animals. or polar animals. People generally have bricks and plates to make buildings but they don't have animal menageries. Unless they're crazy like me and have a drawer full of them. Animal packs would get round the theme specific problem and just let people go nuts with their imaginations.
  6. Lego claimed in the mega factories tv programme that their paint applications dont chip or rub off. so it's a quality control issue. contact customer services and request a replacement.
  7. How fab! I was only talking about an eye clinic in the ideas for city sets thread yesterday. I like the eyeball sign. Actually I like the building front in general. Nice and clean and uncluttered. The lack of other signage makes it seem like a very private practice. I agree that the office could perhaps benefit from more stuff. maybe a bigger chair, bookcase, bigger desk with drawer full of lenses for the phoropter? the handheld examination tool they use could be made from a star wars clonetrooper helmet attachment. I like the apartment also. some lovely touches. the artists model is great and I love the plinth behind her.
  8. Zebras have different manes to Horses. It stands up like a punk mohican so there would have to be a new head on the Horse body. The Polar bear could be cast in brown for a Grizzly bear as they are genetically the same animal. The Lion and Tiger have the same physiology so Lego could do one mould to get two animals and just have the Lions mane as a clip on piece to allow for male or female. Then print stripes on the body recast in orange to make a Tiger. effectively getting three animals from one body. similarly leopards and black Panthers share physiology so two animals from one mould. a Hippopotamus and Rhinosrus could share a body and just have different heads. There's lots of animals that are similar enough that Lego could create a large number from a much smaller set of moulds and save money. I think What stops Lego from doing a zoo theme is that taditonally it's the very young that get off on zoo animals while the older kids get off on vehicles and action themes. Convincing the average seven year old that zoo's are cool and tearing him away from fire engines and spaceships and pirates would be a hard task. Personally I'd sell my mother to get a Lego zoo.
  9. Optician's shop/clinic. I was just thinking about how many minifigs wear glasses and how bad the general state of minifigs eyes must be. Yet they don't have anywhere to get their eyes tested or buy their glasses. I guess the ground floor would need a reception desk, walls with racks of glasses (stickers) and a mirror or two. couple of chairs, big windows and a fancy sign outside the shop with a big opair of glasses cleverly made from two magnifying lenses. Upstairs would be the clinic with eye test equipment and the letters chart on the wall. examination chair and the funny glasses that they slip different lenses in and out of to get a diagnosis of eye strength/problems. Only that would have to be a one piece accessory. and a tile printed with a clipboard showing a lot of scribble and the numbers 20:20.
  10. Look at it this way, you can still find Lego sets and parts from decades ago. None of this stuff is vanishing anytime soon. New stuff will be floating around for decades to come. Everything is obtainable.
  11. This is my boy Oliver. Labrador retriever / Patterdale (or Black Fell or Old English) terrier cross. Five months old in the photo but he's now six months old. We adopted him from a small local rescue centre when he was seven and a half weeks old. His three sisters were all rehomed too but we only had room for one pup. He's a handful and has an odd personality but I couldn't be without him.
  12. I've stayed fairly true to Town and City throughout my Lego life but dipped into other themes when sets excited me. Pirates, Western, Harry Potter, Bionicle, various Castle, Prince of Persia, Agents and so on. It took me years to realise though that I buy these sets for parts and Bricklink and Ebay serve me better than buying whole sets. Selecting the parts of sets I want and buying those separately, either just the vehicles or minifigs or particular bricks, is much more satisfying. I don't end up with lots of bricks and parts I don't want or don't use this way.
  13. I like the green hull. At least it isn't yet another red or blue one. I'll get the hull from Bricklink but the set doesn't excite me enough to pay out a large lump of cash for.
  14. I didn't realise how tiny they are until I got a couple. They're great though. Cool addition to the range of accessories. Hope they turn up in city sets.
  15. Other Vestas sets? How about a smaller wind turbine with installation team for the taller modular buildings. Urban green power. Vestas Blade Runner Two wind turbine boat The Vestas Sail rocket boat. http://www.eta.co.uk/British-yacht-does-0-60mph-in-5-seconds/node/11869 Vestas also do Industrial cooling towers. They look like a bunch of computer fans on their backs. Not exciting but could form part of a factory I suppose. We could do with a factory in Lego city.
  16. Millionaire's luxury yacht. Shorter in length han the current police boat but longer than the new fishing boat. White hull, dark orange deck, dropped stern with jet-ski dock, twin level cabin. Accessories like life preserver jackets, trans green bottle and trans clear rounded goblets, new fruits like pineapple and bunch of grapes, orange and lemon. Female minifig sun hat and Male minifig captains hat. Silver fox millionaire with blazer print torso and cravat, white legs and grey hair. Younger female minifig in floral 'off-the-shoulder' dress. Comes with white jet-ski and white rubber dinghy with outboard motor.
  17. I so wanted the shed set but couldn't afford it. I've seen a rebuild in a flikr set in tan rather than red which looked rather spiffy. A new train shed in one of the more realistic earth tones would be very welcomed here.
  18. Me too. I dont think chrome really fits with the flat colours of Lego. Or metallic gold. Pearl gold is much nicer. I haven't bought any POTC sets but I bought 8 ingot bars and 20 coins from BL. I wish Lego would pick a gold and stick with it.
  19. seems to me the 'girl with radio' is a step aerobics exercise teacher. surely only an aerobics teacher could wear such a hideous ensemble? I know a lot of dancers and none of them would be seen dead wearing that outfit.
  20. Ooh I love it when people have some continuity in buildings. Not to knock anyone's efforts but I see some layouts and think it's all too diverse. Every building is different. Even the official modulars are a bit too diverse. Here though you've taken the same basic design and built houses just different enough to feel realistic. Like you'd see on any street. And the mirroring of the houses is great. There's so much to love here.
  21. Rio. Good fun movie. Didn't require much brain power. Lovely colourful nonsense. Also saw Gnomeo and Juliet. which could have benefitted from not having the music pulled from Elton John's back catalogue. However I'm guessing that for part financing the movie he stipulated the use of his songs to clinch the deal. it wasn't a bad movie but not brilliant. typical of British movies. close, but no cigar.
  22. I'm thinking Clikits but with bricks. Build a princess tiara. Technic tread bracelet. minifig head necklace. Horus mummy wings hair slide.
  23. Id buy the big bentley set for the tan parts. loving the column/support pieces, are they new?
  24. That was then and this now and I want to look to the future not the past. I really dont want to go back to classic town days. I like my modern city and funky new bricks and colours.
  25. Nice find! I still don't like the dwarf, gladiator, clown or cavewoman. The rest are great though. shame there's no reverse pics. love to see dinocroc guy's tail properly.
