  1. None of them. Not any more. They all jumped the shark in one way or another.
  2. I liked this set when I first saw pictures but the more I looked the less it appealed. There's been a bit of a glut of trucks recently and I prefer the transport trucks in green livery. The escort car isn't terribly exciting or different from other city cars and wind turbines are useless in a city. I just couldn't find enough to like with this set to justify buying it.
  3. these are starting to show up on ebay from an eastern source. punk, geisha, wolfman, gnome, hazmat guy, footballer, monster. the seller is asking for silly amounts of money. £26 GBP for four figs. and then postage on top. Insanity.
  4. Hurrah! Just ordered one. Thanks for the info here. I saw this on ebay a couple of days ago at £25 plus silly postage. You've just saved me a few pounds so thank you muchly.
  5. Yeah in the interview about the approach to targeting girls, (there's a thread somewhere), the Lego guy said adults would just have to accept whatever they do for kids. In other words, take what they produce and modify it to your own tastes If you want it more scary or adult. I prefer the cartoony child friendly approach. The expressive minifig faces and brighter colours bring it to life. I'm sure that has to be a big contributory factor to the upsurge in Lego love in recent years.
  6. Mmm, I'm quite lucky to own three of the pitchfork piece. I bought one and the other two came to via a charity shop mixed bag of parts and aa box of parts my friend gave me from his parents loft clear out. Of course the alien conquest one will probably be reddish brown not old brown so there'll be a slight difference. Just to add something related to the topic, are there any actual new pieces in this theme or just new colours?
  7. That torso is great. Going to be very expensive on BL I suspect. I shall have to save up some pennies.
  8. Gender stereotype reinforcement cycles. I really hope there are girls out there who take themes like Alien conquest and City and give them strong female twists. All this claptrap about pastel colours and ponies and princesses is sickening. And Lego owes it girls to make more of the minifigures in sets strong female characters. Instead of wet nelly damsels in distress. For example Castle could do with an armour wearing fighting Princess. Pirates needs a female captain. City needs more female tradespeople or authority figures. Girls will only ever play with pink toys if tha's all that is available to them. normalising women in Lego themes instead of marginalising them is how to engage girls. inclusion not segregation.
  9. I think they should finish at series six and have 20 figures instead of 16 to round the number up to 100 total. If these finish at series 5 then it's a good solid series to end with. My own purchase stats will look like this at series 5: S1=5 bought S2=8 bought S3=8 bought S4=9 bought S5=12 bought which doesn't include multiples but illustrates which of the series appeals most to me. By the time I'm done I'll probably have bought around eighty of these figures. I didn't intend to buy any at the start. Perhaps a few parts if they were ok. And I'm under no compulsion to complete the collection. Some of the figures Like the clowns and space figures, western, fantasy medieval, I haven't really wanted. The standout weirdest have been the crash test dummy and gnome. Out of every figure the fisherman, hazmat suit guy and skater dude MKII are the best in my humble opinion..
  10. The design of roadworks, building, civil structure will dictate which vehicles you need and the sort of materials that will be lying around. Personally I favour construction sites where the work is in the early stages and it's mostly foundations and girders or wood frame. Although on a large site a mix of completed stages and bare frame looks good. There again, it can also look good when a crew is knocking down a construction rather than building it. If I ever get my hands on the recent crawler crane I plan on refitting it witha wrecking ball. Destruction is fun.
  11. No-one going to comment on my designs then? Are they even visible? the link works for me and the gallery is public.
  12. Could be dust mites from the cardboard box the lego came in. It's not uncommon for cardboard boxes to contain the blighters. if it was bed bugs it would be their faeces that irritated you. not the bugs themselves. Dust mites I think are more irritating. Not sure if they bite flesh but if it's dust mites you probably have tiny red marks on your skin somewhere like mini bites. and they'll itch.
  13. Right now I'm listening to a playlist of everything Lemon Jelly have put out. So KY, Lost Horizon's, '64-95 and the singles.
  14. Been colouring my minifig sketches, don't have a lot of free time so it's taking me a while to do these properly. Don't have my tablet and pen to hand so it'sall done with a mouse which isn't the best tool. Anyway, have a look if you haven't already. LMK what you think. Clicky here *edit: link fixed*
  15. Nice. Good job it's only lifting one person though. The balloon is a little conservatively sized. And what happened to that poor rigging piece? Ouch! So um, cool.
  16. Yes and no. I like simple builds without fussy over detailed exteriors but I like more substance and solidity to my buildings. If I end up with an open back now it's more down to a lack of bricks than by design. I don't really do modular at all. I don't really do interiors either unless you can see into the building through a large window. Shop fronts or big offices sort of thing. And I'm definitely not a fan of four wide vehicles.
  17. Looks good. Unfortunately those particular dors are just a bit too tall. A problem with the original single deck bus and coach. I suppose you could cheat and put a 1x4 sticker across the top to bring the height down for aesthetic purposes. And I agree that the white doesn't really work but overall it's a neat looking build. Hope there's no low bridges on it's route around your town/city.
  18. I like them all apart from regular red, blue and yellow. So sick of those colours. If I really had to pick one colour as a favourite though, I'd probably say orange. Trans/trans neon/light/medium/dark or regular. It is the colour I will auto-gravitate towards.
  19. Could be worse, could be Smurfs..... Actually that gnome hat in white and some blue torso's and heads... NO! I'm not talking myself into creating a village of Smurfs. *slaps self in face*
  20. Nope. Incorrect sir, the gnome from series four is the first with the short legs.
  21. Thank you :) You're the first person to acknowledge them. Glad you like them even though they're a bit rough. I'm in the process of colourising now.

  22. What an unpleasant thing to say. Boo hiss sir. Boo hiss.
  23. Combining the colours of Wolfpack with the ideas of Forestmen would be my ideal. Oh and keeping the wolf emblem. Even if it was reduced to just a sword pommel or a printed cloak clasp. I'd like it to be there, just not so prominent. More of a subtle nod to the past. And Instead of all those tree and cave hideouts have their main stronghold be a village with a tavern and cottages. A proper Blacksmith and foundry, a smallholding, village elder meeting hall. Peasant stuff like spinning and weaving. Normality. Then in such settings have hidden chambers and hiding places. secret store rooms and hollow walls. To be honest I'm tired of castles and knights. I think Lego should go further with the peasant/civillian life subtheme. stretch out in that direction for a while and leave the royal battles alone. Introducing a wolfpack/forestmen 'Robin hood and his merry men' type string to the peasant sets would be enough to provide action and adventure without having to go into castles directly.
  24. Mmmmmmmmmmm, orangey goodness.
  25. I use the dark flesh and brown heads and hands but everything else is yellow. as far as I'm concerned yellow covers every nationality besides black/asian/mixed race. light flesh is too pink anyway. If it was somewhere towards tan I might consider that a new fleshtone worthy of replacing yellow. In the same spectrum as brown, dark flesh and yellow. Pinky flesh is too distinct and alien for the world of Lego in general. Back on topic, I added more doodle designs to my CM gallery. Link in my signature.
