LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5 discussion
Jargo replied to eiker86's topic in Special LEGO Themes
There's nothing wrong with change or fresh approaches. Before I saw the series 5 selection I'd drawna boxer with permanent gloves using the same connection pin as the minifig hand. I think I'd prefer permanent gloves rather than - well, gloves that fit over the hands. I can't imagine myself doing anythng with boxing gloves other than leaving them on the boxer. And hope there's another one in blue or black..... -
National Geographic's "Megafactories" Lego Episode

Oh heck, don't get me wrong, I've still got pieces from the late sixties. I think it's brilliant that Lego stands the test of time and is such a strong product. I was just musing on the possible eco impact. -
What's your favourite feature of 2011 from TLG?
Jargo replied to Legoist's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The new farm animals in the Kingdoms sets. Two brand new animals and two variations of old/older ones. I'm tickled pink about all the new minifigs coming this year but the farm animals really stand out. I won't just buy them I'll ache until I can buy them and then cherish them. Oh and that ape from the collectible minifigs. That's worth mauling people to get. -
Hmmm, my post was tongue in cheek. Never mind.

Bringing Chinese know how to europe should be a TLG goal. I say they should just import the entire chinese factory, workers and all. Assimilate it into the Billund factory complex. Look after the QC instead of investing in rubbish like Lego Universe.

Interesting. regular blue would look just as good. reverse the colours so you can have regular blue wheel arches which are available. tempered with medium blue and grey it'll still have a similar impact, just a bit bolder.

1 skater, 3 hazmats, 6 sailors, 1 punk and 1 footballer bought. Just the artist, surfer girl, Geisha and scientist to get and I'm done with this series. -
National Geographic's "Megafactories" Lego Episode

Very interesting. I was foever telling my late partner how each piece of Lego was a finely engineered marvel to justify my passion for the brick. I wish he'd seen this. It does beg the question of how long does a Lego brick live for. How many years does an individual brick maintain its structural and chemical integrity. Will future generations be walking on man made beaches of ground down used Lego. It seems like an awful lot of plastic being churned out. If every brick ever produced was put in one place how big a pile would it make. how high would it be. what would be the environmental impact of all those bricks. The programme has taken any romantic notions about Lego that I had and killed them. It's quite depressing in a way to see what a monster the factory is, the company is. Although impressive and awesome to see the bricks being made, the sheer scale of the process is sobering. -
Why do you collect the Collectible Minifigures?
Jargo replied to thegurumb's topic in Special LEGO Themes
to put it simply, it adds variety to my collection of minifig parts. I'm not interested in the 'collectible' aspect, just getting variety and diversity into the minifigs that populate my lego city. -
I've been planning on doing some red mail vans myself so it's nice to see one done beforehand instead of the photoshopped pic I did to inspire me. I like the smart car too.

The dwarf clown's hat could also be used as a wild west gamblers derby hat. Or wild west 'bunko' salesman/conman. It's not accurate, but close enough. -

He's more of a T-Rex to me. King Kong vs the T-rex, just crying out for a movie studio set up. Hmmmm... -

I quite like them all apart from the clown. Which no matter how hard my brain tries to rationalise into 'it's just a piece of plastic' is still a scary clown and destined to be vetoed from my collection the same as the other clown. Although I will buy his pie from BL because that's cool. I hope the boxer gets an opponent. Then it would be worth building a boxing arena. -
edit your post dongo and remove the first http:// from each image link and they'll show up.

Hmmm, I can't help feeling that anticipation and excitement for this set might be a little high. As lovely as the modular series is it hasn't yielded anything particularly new so far. Some bricks in different colours yes, but nothing like new accessories or minifigs. So far it's mainly been interesting build techniques and the reasonably large set size. I'm sure this set will be cool but I don't anticipate anything new.

I bag them up by profession. complete. then civillians go in a big bag and the bits and bobs left over line the bottom of the drawer the bags go in. like a big jumble or organised chaos.

Do you buy 1 set to play with and 1 to keep sealed?
Jargo replied to thegurumb's topic in General LEGO Discussion
No. Everything I buy gets opened, built, rebuilt then taken apart and sorted into components for storage in drawers. It's nice that you're saving stuff for your son. and good sense really given the way retired sets get hyper expensive as time rolls on. -
I thought that, so I only bought the stickers and red bike from bricklink. I shall build my own bank and security van.

Hmmm, It's a damn shame there'sno rear fuselage part in white to fix that gaping hole on the spy jet. I'm not really interested in the cars sets but the spy jet offers possibilities for modification into a cool city airport plane. If it weren't for the lack of a white rear piece. Curses!

Lovely. The continuation of tan buildings on your street makes it look very historically grounded. But don't monks have monasteries and nuns have convents?
-
Indeed. Mine arrived just now similarly squashed. luckily I'm an opener so it doesn't matter but it does seem slightly stupid to send a boxed item in an envelope.
-
This is very true. I've got lots of parts to build one and could have made stickers for the tail and I may still do that too, but it's just a nice feeling getting a new set in a box to open and build. Plus, I'm considering getting rid of my huge planes and sticking with a smaller fleet. An arodrome rather than an airport. Planes that will fit on runway baseplates.

ugh, sorry, mental aberration on my last post. I meant the edit for the alien conquest thread not this one. My mind was all over the place this morning. Just ignore that comment.
