Heroica RPG- Quest #122: Invasion of the Sheep Snatchers
StickFig replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
So now I'm confused - is it Matthias, Siercon, and Statler versus Lind, Purpearl, and Waldorf? -

Heroica RPG- Quest #122: Invasion of the Sheep Snatchers

Matthias watches Lind strike Statler, and decides that a fight might help them sort out some party issues. Dropping the Extraordinaire and lightly setting his hat atop the gun, the gnome situations himself next to Statler and raises tiny fists against Whisperer, Berthadhiell, and Waldorf. There he waits, slightly unsure of what to do next - he's never been in a fistfight before. Calling out to the horse, he asks, "Friend sumpter, are they always like this?" -

I'm just glad I didn't do more damage to the scum than I did. I'd welcome any pointers from all those who have called me out - I've yet to play as town but apparently I'm absolute rubbish at scum. It was a mistake - I have a lot to learn! Many thanks to TPRU for his excellent work to seize the situation. -

Matthias contents himself to let Whisperer do the talkin', but the gnome does level his big gun in the direction of Waldorf, Statler, and the other guy in case the Black Knight's suspicions proved correct. Casting his eyes in all directions under the brim of his stovepipe, he checks for any sign of animals or other people in the immediate area and says to his party in a low voice, "These men could be the cart from the village that Wise Old Owl mentioned. If they prove villains, I don't believe they'll present much trouble, but I think they might be a valuable source of information about Twilight Sparkles and possibly a ride." -

Matthias gives Purpearl a funny look. A cart just went up this way an hour ago, and no one's been seen here since then. What kind of traps would there be on a mountainside path in regular use? he wonders. Shaking his head, the gnome gives up again wondering what's going on with his party-mates and leads the way up the mountain, perhaps spurred on by Whisperer's strong words when he'd arrived last at the rendezvous site. -

Heroica RPG- Quest #122: Invasion of the Sheep Snatchers
StickFig replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
The gnome tips his hat again as the owl takes flight and Matthias wonders for a brief moment what a rush the feeling of wind beneath one's feathers must be. The conversation concluded, he turns back to the group. "Master Lind, apparently the Hinckwells' merchants visit the village twice a month for trade. Aside from that, Wise Old Owl referenced a group - he just called them them - that he's heard the sheep talking about, so I'll keep my ears open once we arrive at the village. I'm ready to meet our employers, personally," he says as he heads up the path. -

Ignoring Whisperer's repeated rude interruptions to the gnome-owl conversation, Matthias continues, "Friend Owlowiscious, I apologize for my companion's jumpy enthusiasm, but he has a good question. Is the Hinckwell presence here normal? Are they here often, for some continuing interest? Or was this an isolated incident - and can you tell us about it?" -

To alleviate any confusion, when Matthias uses Animal Talk I color it green; characters without the Animal Talk trait won't understand those words. His normal speaking voice is an orangey brown. Matthias tips his high hat to the owl. "Owlwiscious, peace to you. I am Matthias, of Heroica, and these are my ...friends, Lady Purpearl, Master Lind, and Master Siercon. We're investigating some disappearing sheep - and it might be related to them, as you say - who do you mean by them?" The gnome puts up a cheery front to the bird, but his inner monologue is anything but calm. Wonderful - a nebulous them to deal with. Maybe we'll get some more helpful information next. Not that I need help; I've already got a party member with delusions of grandeur, plus an elf with a violent streak and a strange mage I hardly know. Oh, and I've never been a leader before, and I hardly know how to be a druid. What could go wrong? Turning to the party, the gnome sums up, "Well, our friendly neighborhood is in a helpful mood today. The Wise Old Owl, as he's called, says that thirty moons ago was the last time a party like ours passed his post, and that two carts have passed him recently. Three days ago, an empty cart carrying three men from Hoogan came down and it went back up about an hour ago; a Hinckwell cart also came down yesterday." -

Gnome eyes roll under the brim of a tall top hat. "What would you know about armies, 'Grey Foxer'? I don't seem to remember battle royale being among your long list of qualifications and experience. Lady Purpearl and I have stood between two armies, fought and died to preserve peace. Have you?" Softening his tone a little, Matthias continues, "Stalwart Heroes are we all, but we are no army. Once I have wrung every scrap of information from this raptor, we'll head to the village." -

Having observed the three other heroes for a moment from around a bend in the road, Matthias approaches as quietly as a gnome carrying a very large cannon can, doing his best to project an aura of strength, leadership, and confidence. Addressing the owl, he says "When last did you see armored warriors, friend hunter? And what other things of note might you have seen lately?" Turning to Whisperer, he says with a wink, "Master Lind, I am perfectly capable of speaking to the owl on my own." The gnome raises his eyes to the two others, and asks, "Should we proceed to the village, or is there anything else we should investigate here?" -
IT'S A SIGN! THE END TIMES ARE UPON US! TWO PEOPLE TRAINED IN TWO CLASSES IN THE SAME ORDER THEY WERE INTRODUCED! WINTER IS COMING!

Matthias should be on the list as well. Sorry if it wasn't clear. Nice, got me while I was typing hahaha.

Matthias looks up briefly from his ale and is momentarily struck by the size of the greenskin standing at the bar. The gnome briefly admires the enormous sword and trio of bows hanging from the ogre's back before turning his attention back to the mug in his own tiny hands.

Godspeed, Flare! See you back here before too long!

Noting the commotion at the Quest Board, Matthias wanders over to sign up for Quest #126 - his strict policy of signing up for every quest would probably never change. The shouts of toasting reach his ears from the saloon, and he wonders what's causing everyone to toast the Dragonslayer. He returns to his seat and his ale, watching the others raise their glasses.

I know, right? Save the entirety of Baltarok and the High Kingdoms from the destruction of a senseless war and you get 25 measly gold pieces... blow up a stupid tower for the Wolfgang and you get a title and 1000 gold!

Matthias walks into the Hall, surprised to see most of the Heroes whom he'd just left in the Fields already back. Shrugging off his wonder, he makes his way to the quest board, pulling up a chair to reach the parchments. Reading the sign-up list for Quest #122, he lets out a groan. "Does the man's arrogance know no bounds?" he mutters to himself, scribbling his name. "I wonder if Berthadhiell and Siercon even realize he's riding their names - and does he really think he can pick his own party, one that doesn't even meet the quest requirements?" Shaking his head, Matthias signs up for Quest #125 - may as well - then pushes his chair back where it came from and heads up to the saloon for a pint.

Heroica RPG - Unlimited Quest: Fields of Glory
StickFig replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Matthias is excited to finally finish the battle, but tries to play it cool in front of the less experienced heroes. Looking around at sheep corpses, he remembers seeing a recent quest posting concerning sheep.... "Ok, ladies and gentlemen, I think I've had enough of this for now. I'll see everyone back at the Hall." The gnome looks around for the farmer to ensure his 4 meager Glory Points are recorded and departs the Fields. -
Dinky Hand Cannon.... Sorry, couldn't resist.
